I just tried a figure-8 bun. It's finally long enough to make one! Granted, it's not a great one, but now my twisting it does not eat up significant length! Yay!I'm washing it later today and after it dries, I'll probably just put it up in a bun. I'm saving wearing it down for going out instead of leaving it down at home, like I usually do.

Earlier it was down for going out for Thanksgiving dinner, now it's up in two cinnabuns (one on top, one on the bottom) on the back of my head, it almost looks like a very swirly figure 8 and is held by a single stick. I'll be perfecting it for wearing it outside the house.

My hair is loose again, but I'm proud because I managed to stop myself from brushing it while it was wet. Now that it's dry I've finger-combed it a bit; because I didn't separate out the strands by brushing it, the strands have stayed together and the effect is that of heavier, thicker hair than normal. So, it's still loose--but it's hanging differently.

Figure eight with two sticks. The clarifying wash I did last Sunday is keeping any style from staying in. Here I thought it was my updo skillz that were keeping my hair in place all this time, when really it was a buildup of gunk.

I found a little brass hairstick waaaay down in the crevices under the couch cushions. It was cool finding a toy I thought was long gone:)
It is much too short for me to use for a regular updo any more, so I have polished it up and am using it to hold up a half up mini lazy bun.
Yay, my hair is growing:cheese:

I've never heared of it! How do you do one?

It's an easier version of a regular herringbone. The technique is exactly the same, but you only use the same 5 strands to do it. Instead of sectioning off tiny strands each time, you cross the outer/upper strand over the 2 others to add them to the strands in your other hand.

More detailed:
- Make a ponytail and divide your hair into 5 equal strands. Hold 3 of them in your right hand (keep them separated) and 2 in you left hand (also still separated).
- Bring the outer/upper strand of the 3 in your right hand over the remaining 2 in the same hand, towards the middle, adding the strand to the ones in your left hand. Result: 3 strands in left hand (with the newly added strand closest to the middle), 2 in the right.
- Bring the outer/upper strand of the 3 strands in your left hand over the other 2, adding it to the strands in your right hand. Again, this strand should be closest to the middle.
- Repeat until you run out of hair or until the braid is the length you want it to be.
Note: keep the strands separated at all times.

Did that make sense? I can try to explain it better if it didn't.

Today: in a cinnamon bun.

Joyfulmom,

That sounds very nice! I had a sock bun yesterday, but I didnt braid the tail. What type of scrunchie/ponytail holder do you use to go over the sock after the hair falls over it?

Thanks! I think I understand, I'll try it tomorrow!

Beautiful braid, Speckla! I love your curls. It gives it a really romantic look.

I wore a wet bun overnight, and it dried in very loose waves this morning. We were running today, so it was up in a ponytail again. My friend was telling me, "I love your hair. It's always in such perfect waves in your ponytail." :cloud9:

I've got it up in my first bun ever! I did a CO in the shower and put some leave-in conditioner on the ends and wrapped up in a hair towel. Then I twisted it up into a cinnamon bun and loaded it up with about a dozen bobby pins, lol. (The u-shaped kind.)

I've never ever put my hair in a bun before and I'm thrilled with how it turned out. I never thought of doing a bun in wet hair but I love how it feels on my head. This will definitely be a frequent 'do for me in the summer.

I have a business meeting in a few minutes, and didn't have time to shower, let it dry, etc. So, up it went. I just wish my hair didn't slip out of everything so fast. And my poor little bun looks so anorexic compared to the thick haired, lovely buns here. One reason I don't wear it up like this often is in makes my hair look even thinner than it is. Braids don't seem to do that, but braids aren't terribly appropriate for what I need to do today :-(

In my first ever herringbone braid. The top of the braid where it starts looks pretty messed though, but I guess it managed. This morning it was just in a figure 8 with a plastic hair stick. Than I decided to switch it up when I got home for lunch. I got lots of compliments on it, I even had to show my teacher how to do it haha.

Two Dutch braids. I've started wearing my hair in braids more recently. I don't have to redo them as much as with buns.

Again, something didn't work (a folded bun, this time), so it's a kind of Celtic bun held with a Ficcare.

A side braid, made with 2 small strands and 1 big one (as seen in a YouTube-video). It gives a nice, curvy effect to a braid.

In a cinnabun with a little bit of pouf/pomp in the front using the 'bangs/fringe' section of hair.

Right now it is freshly washed, still damp, down and finger combed. Yesterday I did my first ever herringbone braid and, though it was a bit messy toward the end, I was very happy with it. I redid it again later and it looked even better, though still far from perfect.

I wish I could get my husband to braid my hair for me. We have girls and he is the one who gets them ready in the morning, so I think he ought to learn to braid for their sake, and I'd be a great training model, lol.
