Yes, I am a iii. It’s all fine strands, so on a good day it compresses down nicely and on a bad day it’s hard to contain them. Haha yesterday was medium, if that helps!

Bigger sizes would be awesome! I totally would exercise in these if they made larger ones.

The stick is a sturdy hard plastic, and the flexi is matte, ‘suede’ rubber, but flexible.

Thanks for the details!!
That makes sense, the stick being a different type of material.

For my regular updo's I'd need a size from L up to XL.
S up to L will be too small I guess. I don't wear ponytails for sports, too long a tail

No problem! I do hope they size up. Sounds like there will be a crowd of us waiting for that size ;)

Currently wearing my sport flexi in a half up, and my goodness the hold is solid. Hasn’t slipped an inch.

A question has just occurred to me. Is the material of the "eight" part kind of grabby? Does it tend to pull hair/does hair tend to stick to it?

It has good traction - hair doesn’t slip. But my hair doesn’t stick in a static kind of way, nor does it pull my hair. It just stays put.

Whenever LillaRose asks what we would like to see in the future or have ideas for flexis I always said:
Ginkgo Biloba leaf on a flexi, a Raven on a braided flexi...(and a borzoi head but that's never going to happen haha)
So when I saw this, I jumped up and hit the ceiling LOL

And that raven flexi just reminded me, I never shared the crow skull modified flexi I made inspired by this post by Milady (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=17757&p=3802409&viewfull=1#post3802409)

I don't know if this is the best thread to share it, but if lilla Rose ever makes something like this I'll be buying 20. The skull is too large for the size of flexi I use but it's still the flexi I use the most by far. I just love crows and skulls too much :D

I have mixed feelings about this change. On the one hand, it was exciting to have new Flexis come up every month. On the other, in recent years I was interested in less than 10% of FOTMs. Some years I bought one, or even none. Their style and themes changed at some point, and there weren't as many clips that I liked as there had been let's say 8 years ago.

I was happy about custom orders coming back (after so many years!), but then I thought there aren't really any clips that I like just the beads or just the centerpiece of at the moment, so I won't be even using this option. At least now now. It's not like I will order 5 clips immediately.
So... I have mixed feelings about both aspects of this change.

Henrietta

OK, so now that we have this month's email from Lilla Rose it seems that the new DIY thing works in a different way than I thought it would. It's not like we have all the current centerpieces and bead styles available to compose a custom clip. Each month, there are going to be a few new bead styles and a few centerpieces to compose a clip out of.
So this is more interesting!

After 2.5 weeks without any tracking updates, my first order from Lilla Rose arrived on Friday :joy: I thought it was stuck in California this whole time!

Okay, as a Flexi newbie, I found the selection a little intimidating, so I ended up choosing a few I deemed most safe and versatile: a Grace, Copper Rose, and Floressa. I really love them! I feel undeservedly elegant :inlove:

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=46644&d=1643584750

For how long they took to get here, I'm glad I got three. I opted to get them all in Mega (XXL). I was a little worried about sizing, whether it might be too big. I did a lot of research (measuring tape and all), but you just can't know for sure until trying it yourself. But it seems to look right on my head and holds like a rock as well :) These are also all centre-held buns, so there's not much room to downsize I guess. An XL might hold a nautilus, but could be a tight fit if it's a whole inch shorter. I'm still playing with the measuring tape. I put another order in for a Medium to act as a braid accent, and I'm just praying I worked it out correctly

Until this year I only ever used plain sticks to style my hair, so pretty excited about the possibilities over here :p

Those look lovely in your hair, lapis!

They do look like you have a bit of room to grow but the difference between an XL, and an XXL is huge; I don't think an XL would work for you at all. I used an XL for my cinnabuns back when my hair was at BCL+ but I don't think I'll ever have enough hair to use an XXL even if my hair grew to knee.

Yes it feels like there's still a little room, which is good since I'm still growing :) That's what I kept hearing, that it's a big jump from XL to XXL, so I was apprehensive! I appreciate your input. I'll stick with Megas for now (can't stop here ;)), and hope I'm not tempted to go down if my size is out of stock :disbelief

Haha, I thought that (well, almost - I thought I'd have to grow to ankle to even stand a chance of them fitting, which at the time seemed equally impossible) but with the right bun I have actually been able to wear them since about just past knee length  The jump in size is huge though; I've been wanting to cut the sticks off to wear them with thicker straight sticks so they'd work with more buns.

I never was able to wear XXL comfy, I always felt it was unstable (probably because I prefer centerheld buns)
XL beaded is now getting too Loose meh. So I am downsizing to L flexis and the EX flips, and XL and L leather flexis.

But I'm waiting with ordering untill the whole iOSS VAT problems are solved :)

Help! I am one of those evil people who cuts the stick out of flexis so I can customize them with sticks and forks (also those sticks tend to be heavy for my thin hair). Thing is, the size of the clips are printed on those darn sticks and, when I am looking to buy a new flexi, I always get confused about the sizes.

Can somebody here PLEASE let me know which size clip is approximately 3 inches from the end of one loop to the end of the other loop? I would really appreciate it.

Thanx :blossom:

That chart has the pin (stick) length listed but not that of the flexi piece. When I was researching sizes, I found it's on average 0.75" shorter than the pin. I have a Medium and confirmed its piece is about 3" loop to loop :)

I cut them off with a bolt cutter. Maybe you could use something else, but I have a bolt cutter in my garage and it's just a quick snip. And yes, it can make a BIG difference to use thicker sticks. I have some relatively large (for my hair) flexis that I use with thick Lady Idun sticks. Works like a charm. Sometimes I even use them with forks.

Imagine my surprise today when I tried to bun my hair and it actually didn't fit in a L flexi. At APL. Last time I thought I was BSL and could use it for a bun... Really confusing. I must have really had more hair loss then than I remembered. What size do you all use between APL to BSL or Waist in Flexi's for a typical cinnabun? The only way I can use my L now is a folded french braid. Probably would work too if my hair wasn't too slippery for a french twist.I can't for the life of me get that to stay!

Edit: yeah no, my hair thickness must have improved because the small flexi that I couldn't use for a ponytail definitely doesn't slip out now. Cool. 😎

My mother and I just clubbed together to order some Flexi flips, Heather in medium for mum and Stacey in medium and Heather in small for me. My mum has been growing her hair for the first time since she was a teenager and has had some hang ups about what she's 'allowed' to do with it because of her age and starting to go grey but I've been showing her pictures and occasionally leaving pretty hair forks at her house and she's finally feeling like she wants to do fun things with it so I'm extra excited to receive the package. Not as excited about what I'm sure will be a whopper of a customs charge.

We're hoping these will give us an idea about what kind of sizes we might be in the Flexiclips so we can put an order in later in the year for some snazzier ones.

I'm considering getting a few of these soon but I don't know what size would be the best. My pony circ is between 4.5/4.75" and it's currently 30" with blunt ends. I intend to wear it for pinning up braids and nautilus kind of buns and I might wear two. I'm leaning toward the large for one bun and medium for two, is this wrong?

In case you haven't bought one yet, it's more about the size of your bun/updo. Do the style you intend to do with a Flexi with a stick first and find out how much hair is overtop the stick (and how long of a stick you need). You'll need increasing amounts of hair to keep the figure 8 closed. For pinning up braids that you can't do with just a stick, I'd probably go by the measurements of the Flexis and guess the smallest one you could fit the braids into.

These are the numbers I went by. The figure 8 lengths are rough estimates based on my own research, not official measurements, and vary between designs:

XXS
Pin: 2"
Figure 8: 1.75"

XS
Pin: 2.75"
Figure 8: 2.125"

S
Pin: 3.25"
Figure 8: 2.625"

M
Pin: 3.75"
Figure 8: 3.25"

L
Pin: 4.25"
Figure 8: 3.625"

XL
Pin: 5.25"
Figure 8: 4.625"

XXL

Pin: 6.25"
Figure 8: 6"

Unfortunately, it's kind of trial and error.

I got a few new Flexis, but I've decided these will be my last for a while. I still find these toys really finicky and get inconsistent results with them :( Maybe I just don't know what I'm doing, but I continue to wish there was a size in between XL and Mega.

https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=47237&d=1655001015

The XL I can squish onto certain centre-held buns, but for the most part, it's too small. It probably needs half the amount of hair the Mega requires. And therein lies my problem: most of the buns I like to do spread the hair out into a more vertical shape, and therefore there is sometimes insufficient hair between the stick and the figure 8 for the Mega Flexi to close (or it only closes on the first notch, which bothers me). It's hit-and-miss. And then, even when I do find a bun that the Mega fits, I wonder if it even looks good on me proportions-wise. It's SO big. Well, I already have Mega Flexis, so I'm going to wear them regardless, but I second-guess myself.

Anyway, it's probably for the best to go on a time-out. Since I started collecting hairtoys in January, I've bought maybe a few years worth of them to make up for lost time, and my wallet is hurting.

MusicalSpoons

With the megas I have found using a thicker stick would make them a bit more useful, because with a thicker stick they require less hair. Actually even just a straight stick rather than curving outwards means less hair is required.

They both look great in your hair though lapis :)

With the megas I have found using a thicker stick would make them a bit more useful, because with a thicker stick they require less hair. Actually even just a straight stick rather than curving outwards means less hair is required.

They both look great in your hair though lapis :)

Thank you Spoons :) That's so true and something I'm keeping in mind for the future. I know if ever I can't fit into Megas anymore, I can always cut their pins off and pair them with thicker sticks. There are some really cool combinations in this thread to take inspiration from too!

First thing I've had for my hair since the cut and these last years of shorter hair.
Thought I'd show off my miniscule bun as my celebration of 12 years on LHC tomorrow. :)

I've been having trouble getting my flexis to work lately. My hair is just a bit longer so they no longer easily fit over my braided buns (the usual standard bun for flexis for me). It doesn't help that my hair has been more slippery lately too. I don't think my hair is big enough for an XXL yet but I want to find ways to wear them more often. Any suggestions?

Do you use the flexi over the complete bun?
If so, you can try starting the bun, placing the flexi over the center, then finish the bun around the center.
Use it centerheld instead of over the full bun. It's the way I always wear them, feels more secure and stable in movement :)

I've mostly been trying that with braided buns and I think I braid too tightly so it's hard to get it in there. I'll try it with different buns and see if I have any luck.

I've been thinking of trying them too and looked at them (again) today. However, at 2c/f/ii and slippery, my hair is quite different from yours. Maybe you could use them for accent braids or half-ups?

I have had the same large clip from them for years. I just recently started growing my hair out again and found that trusty clip! I am noticing my hair doesn't fit into this large that I have and they do not make the same style anymore. I was interested in the dragon clip. They also have a cute skull and cross bones. I'm thinking an extra large will be a good one to try next. It's nice to be on LHC again and see that folks are alive and well with these threads still going! :')

Wow! Your hair is so pretty and shiny :) ...and so thick! Your half up is my whole bun *bun envy*! I agree with rosenester, the rose gold looks AMAZING in your hair!

I like all the different designs and colors flexi's have, too (but they are a bit challenging for me. I think my hair is between sizes.). I'm wearing a "Paloma" one today. <-it's a bird in a cage one that was 50% off last time I posted here<3 They also have owls and a simple bird (Nydia -like a narrower Twitter bird) and a peacock! It might just be a matter of you finding ways to gather up your hair so the clip will fit…if you’re in between sizes. I’ve been experimenting like crazy.

First of all lapis_lazuli, thank you very much. I think we are our own worst enemy sometimes, because I didn’t actually think it looked all that great at first, until you complimented it. Now I kinda see what you mean, about the swirl.

Second of all, I apologize because I wish I could remember which exact technique I used to get this look. I was just messing around that night with a bunch of spontaneous experiments. For the life of me, I have no idea how I did it. But aren’t those always the best styles….the ones we didn’t plan or mean to do? :o

I do remember however, trying to shape my hair as I gathered it up, using my fingers to swirl and twist certain spots that I didn’t like the shape of. I’m still in the experimental stages with these flexi clips and seeing what looks nice.

This one below is a mega clip (XXL) and it barely fits around my full bun. I had to do a lot of pinching and squeezing to get it around. I find it all depends how I gather and bunch the hair, as to whether I can get certain size clips to fit or not. Just keep trying various ways. Youtube videos are extremely helpful as well.

I love this hot pink floral clip….so feminine and pretty! :heartbeat

Working on technique, but it’s cute and holds well, I wanted to use it like a cage around buns and I think it’ll be great for that, and definitely room to grow into it as well. These are both LWB, one I out the stick through the center, and the other I just kinda squeezed it all around. Time to learn another bun!

Yes, I will regrow! But with my growth rate this will take at least a year, probably two because I will have to trim in between. I cut off from almost hip to midback because my taper was the absolute worst. However I‘m quite happy with the length at the moment, it makes handling so much easier actually. But I kind of miss the length too.

I sold a few which I ordered in L, but I will keep those which are really dear to me and not available from lillarose anymore.

whirly girly, this looks awesome! Sadly I don‘t have enough room in my bathroom for things like this.

Sadly for me too, I don’t have enough room in my bathroom either, which is the size of a broom closet. Not really but close.

I have my bulletin board hanging in my bedroom, behind the door….the closest to the bathroom as I could get.

Those with smaller lilla rose collections, can get the small cork boards from the dollar store. My board is 36” by 24” …so it wasn’t going near my small bathroom wall but a much smaller board, surely would have. Something to think about, for those with only a few flexies.

What size did you use for this? It looks amazing! We have similar length and thickness, so I bet I could do this as well

I just ordered a medium to try different styles, in copper toned to try to blend with my dark blonde hair! My partner doesn’t like the flashy XL rose gold one, saying it looks like cheap costume jewelry:bigtongue: I don’t care, I love it. But maybe the copper won’t stand out as much.

I also ordered a clip for my sister who keeps APL hair and a small for my mom who keeps a bob, but thought she could use it for 1/2 ups or quick get out of her face.

It's a size medium. That is the size I have most of. I also have some smalls and XS for half ups and for pulling my hair back from my face. I am starting to collect some larger sizes, too, for holding buns. It's good to have a variety of sizes.

I like my flexies flashy. The flashier the better in my books.

Has anyone tried the flexi flip clips? They can be flipped over and used on both sides and they are like having multiple sizes in one single clip. Here is one in my hair below.

I sometimes like to use a much smaller clip that won’t fit my entire hair, but then I wrap the excess hair around the clip. Sometimes I’ll even braid the extra hair, before wrapping around. Then I use just one bobby pin to secure. Easy peasy.

I agree. Most of mine are flashy, yet elegant. I haven't tried the flips, yet. They don't have a pretty middle part, so I'm not very attracted to them. I do have some of their fancy bobby pins, but I don't care for them. They are a booger to get in and out of my hair and always pull some of it out.

Yes GoatLady, I agree…the flip clips are not very flashy without the pretty center but I do like how they contain multiple sizes in one clip. That’s kinda cool and it’s good for days I don’t want a lot of flash….which isn’t too often. They are great for just lounging around at home or working out.

Yup I hear ya about the bobbies. I only use their dopecorative bobby pins for hair decor….not to actually hold hair….so mine are pretty easy to remove without much snagging. For actually holding hair though, I just use the regular standard bobbies from the drugstore. Actually I found a container of 300 gold colored bobbies recently at Sally Beauty….perfect. They are much less conspicuous in my hair, than the brown ones are.

I really like this copper flexi with the pretty purple jewel in the center. There’s something bordering on old-fashioned about this one, that I kinda like. :heartbeat Or maybe it just reminds me of a brooch pin my dear grandmother used to wear. Gosh I miss her. She just died a few years ago. :sad

Still trying to figure out the swerve. This is a knot bun and holds well I think, but I need to find a bun where it disappears more and doesn't show those prongs that much. Haven't found one yet that will actually hold in my spaghetti hair... But it's pretty! I might get more.

And I showed this one my workplace already. This one and the hedgehog are my first leather flexis, I think I like them.

My medium copper flexi clip, a few acrylic u-pins, some flexi clips for gifts, and a free swerve arrived last night! Wearing a u-pin now, it feels very comfy and is so far holding a cinnabun on the top of my head comfortably. No idea what it looks like yet. I realized, I don’t have a mirror in my bedroom yet! When I use the clip I’ll get a photo!

Had to stock up on larges, as XL is too large now after my recent cut. And I still have some more in my basket. :o

As I didn't order flexis in a really long time before I have to ask - will they restock sizes that are out of stock? I have a few I'd really want, but are out of stock in size large. Should I keep checking or will they not come back anyway?

I think they'll restock eventually, unless maybe it says Limited. I'd keep checking back. You could always inquire by email!

They definitely DO re-stock because they didn’t have my size in a certain flexi when I placed my first order but they had it when I placed my second order.

I also heard that they are extremely accommodating when you email them and ask for special requests. They have a reputation for outstanding customer service.

Yes yes, I saw some Christmas flexies…some that just want on sale at 7 am yesterday morning! I must be out of my mind but I placed another order! :rollin: There are no custom charges so that’s good.

The truth is I’m trying to replace some of the silver flexies I bought, which I kinda regret now. Silver just doesn’t look good in my hair….much as I wish it did. Some of them are just so darn pretty and I can’t resist though. I mean they don’t look horrible in my hair but the gold clips look so much better.

Anyway, these flexies are addictive. I love using a different one each day. I usually have my hair in multiple styles on any given day. A few hours of this and a few hours of that. Flexi clips make it so easy to throw your hair up anytime, anywhere…even without a mirror.

Got the flexi I bought from Natt i Nord today (thank you!). It was in size XL and I love the style, it fit so nicely in my hair. I couldn't resist trying it on in the car once I found it in the mail (don't worry, I wasn't the one driving...) and it sat very nicely on the first try. I wore it for swimming (didn't dip my hair) and the rest of the entire evening without any problems. What a great little thing! Something very beautiful and feminine, as well as super functional. I'm sold! But I do need to resist the urge to ever buy a new one unless this one gets useless, they will be expensive to get to Norway, considering shipping and our customs rules. If we go above 350 NOK (maybe around 33 dollars or so?) we will have to pay an additional 25% plus a fee for processing. So, if an item is 19 dollars and shipping is the same, I will be crossing that line. Too bad, but I get how Norway wants to protect their fincancial interests....! Anyway, the point is: I really, really am liking this flexi! :-D

I'm curious - has anyone who usually fits a size large or XL flexi tried the sport clips? I like the simple design as it would be low profile for work, but I don't know whether the leather is a better choice to accommodate more hair.

I need to be able to do full buns (favorites being disc, lwb, and a sort-of nautilus) as for work half ups wouldn't be appropriate at containment.

Oh yes kitknits love, I have one of the sport flexies and they are wonderful. :heartbeat I usually wear an XL and Mega size in other clips. Mind you, it’s a very tight squeeze and almost impossible for me to get it around a full pony tail, but if I leave some hair out and wrap it elsewhere, I can.

The thing about any size flexi, is that I think some people mistakenly think that you need to have ALL your hair in the clip, in order for it to hold….but you don’t. I constantly put my hair up using flexi clips that would be considered “too small” for my hair…because all you really have to do is secure a small amount of hair to your base hair, to get it to hold. Just catching the edge of the bun with the flexi, is often all you need to hold it.

Hard to describe with words but this woman in the video link below, shows how you can secure a bun using a very small flexi that would otherwise be considered “too small” for your hair. You can use this method to hold an endless amount of other styles with “too small” flexies. I do it all the time and I have very long and very thick hair….but I only catch a little bit of my hair in the flexi…and much of my hair, I leave out. Works wonderfully for me.

Fast forward to 12:53 in the video, where she shows you what I’m talking about. She secures a bun with an extra small size flexi and she’s even done it with the mini size too! Better yet, watch the whole entire video because this lady has great styles for flexies. Now mind you, her hair is much shorter but the principle is still the same and it can still work.

Be sure to watch 16:48 too, where she shows how to hold a pony tail with a mini!!! Yes, a mini! The same method can be used with the sport flexi for people with super thick and heavy hair.

The website works out and collects VAT for the EU and UK, it might be worth seeing if it does the same for Norway too. Put stuff in your basket, go to checkout, and the prices should either jump up, or it'll have a separate line for VAT. It may not, if Norway works significantly differently, but it's probably worth a try to find out.
Edit: also it could well work out economical to buy in small amounts if the postage is still $4. Our threshold used to be £15 so I only ever bought mine on sale (back when the exchange rate was decent) and I worked out that multiple postage fees of $4 were still far more economical than paying VAT plus the handling fee!

Whirly Girly I mostly only lurk on this thread now but I'm so pleased you're enjoying the flexis! I'm super impressed by how you get them to hold with so much hair! That video was interesting, I'll see if any of the ideas might work for my Mum although I think she's quite tender-headed so I don't know if flexis would be too heavy for her. But it'll be good to have a look anyway.

Imagine my surprise when I went to go Apple picking and attend a neighboring vendor market when I saw flexi's for sale! In my ignorance I didn't realize these were THE flexi's everyone talks about, I saw she was a Lila Rose vendor but didn't know it was the same thing. But hair toys galore! The jackpot after always looking in standard stores and being lucky to find even a u pin. Anyway. I bought one flexi (it's my first) and two simple small sticks. I'll post a picture if I can get a good shot of it. It's quite pretty. I wanted more but didn't want to break the bank plus I have a goal to make my own flexi and didn't want to lower the "need" motivation by having many. I got her contact info so maybe I can find her vending elsewhere if I want to buy them direct!

You and me both, love. :rollin:

But seriously, the trick for me making almost all the hair accessories I own, fit, is leaving quite a bit of hair out on the top and the bottom. I also sometimes wrap and bobby pin extra hair that cannot fit inside whatever accessory I’m using….especially ones that are way too small and wouldn’t go near me otherwise. With this method, no hair accessory is “too small”. Lol

Oh yes, I am enjoying the flexi clips very much. A little too much, really. Hope you can make something work for your Mum.

Ok kitknits, a picture says a thousand words (but I’ll still write the thousand words anyway). I did a super fast bun a few minutes ago just to show you how I’m holding a big bun with an extra small flexi! And this bun isn’t going anywhere. Sorry the pic is a bit dark with this other silly camera I used. But see…it CAN be done. And the sport clips are much bigger than this one and they have much better grip too.

And MusicalSpoons, you thought you were impressed before. If I told someone I could hold all this hair with a teeny tiny clip like this, they’d be very dubious and likely looking at me like my cheese had slid off my cracker! :rollin:

No problem, love. I can’t attest to the grip or hold of the leather flexies because I don’t have one. But one of the things I love best about the sport flexi is the no-slip grip they have on hair…excellent for someone involved in lots of movement and bouncing around while working out.

Don’t forget too, that Lilla Rose will allow you to do an exchange if you’re not satisfied with whatever you decide on. I’ve actually got a second sport flexi on the way! :heartbeat I have a feeling it won’t be my last.

This was a half french braid I did for my workout yesterday. My bird wouldn’t get off my shoulder, haha, but the flexi was able to secure over half of my pony tail. The rest of the hair, I have hidden in a clear elastic in a 2nd pony tail, underneath the flexi. Not an ideal fit for my pony tails but certainly would be for those with less thick hair.

Thanks! I'll make sure to look into that if I want more. I put it on today as well, and I am very pleased with how my bun feels. No pulling at weird places and it holds things in place with the big decorated part, so I suspect I will want more of these eventually, especially since this is already used and will probably have a limited lifespan for that reason.

Your customs rules sound annoying! Does that count for everything including private packages or business orders only? Maybe you‘re lucky and find some more in the swap board someday. They are great and pretty things indeed!

But don’t worry. I have had some flexis for years and I never had one reach the end of their lifespan so far. They are really durable.

Customs rule is for purchases, but I'm not sure how it is when buying fro private people. For gifts there is a limit of 1000 NOK (around 100 dollars), so a lot more. I don't get many international gifts exceeding that limit

I have a question about Flexi-8s. I've only *just* started wearing the one I have and was wondering how they hold up to getting wet. Would they rust or deteriorate in any way? Sorry if this is a dumb question, it's just that my hair is often wet or at least damp from misting, showering, or swimming at the beach. Would it be okay to clean them by rinsing? I know the sport ones would be fine but I'm curious about the regular flexi clips. Whirly Girly, your hair looks amazing! Such beautiful luster!

I'm really hoping that my flexies arrive soon. My acrylic sticks are really only securely holding a disc bun at this point, as my layers are the Houdini of my life at this moment, and I would love having more option with my styling to avoid scalp ache.

In regards to water affecting the metal, does it state anywhere what sort of coating is used on metal flexies? I know that the sports have a steel core, but I guess the question is whether or not it's stainless or similar used with others...

Half up in a mega flexi today with half hanging down. Perfect when I’m in a rush. This flexi is one of many of my faves. Lol. I adore that cute little pearl that hangs down. :heartbeat

I knew I'd get some problems once I got over my beginner's luck (which strikes me at almost anything I try!)! I am using the XL flexi to secure a nautilus. My hair is BCL and medium thick. It doesn't feel like it gets a tight enough grip on the bun (I don't feel that good feeling of a secure bun, if you know what I mean), and the biggest issue is maybe that it gets so loopsided. Like the side of the stick (where the stick is stuck to) hangs so much down. Loopsidedness is a persistent problem for me, even when I am using forks, but it's more of a problem here because it kind of makes the bun less secure (I guess it's because of the weight of the flexi). Could it be that I've gone a size too large perhaps? I am not trying to get excuses to buy more flexis here, I promise...

Weird thing is I got it to work well in the beginning.

How exciting! I've always wanted to buy hair toys in person (and I love those vendor stall events, but I've never seen hair toys at one!)! I've only bought off the internet, except for a Hawaiian Koa hair fork at an ABC store once. <-but that does not count as hair toys galore! Did you get a flower? Acorn? Snowflake...animal? *curious*. I like the animal ones the best even though they have scary faces sometimes. Did they teach you new hair styles in the stall? I've never met a real Lilla Rose Flexi seller in real life, either.

Thank you for responding to my question, Whirly Girly. As I only have the one, I guess I'll just have to buy more (strictly for research purposes!);) I had that question, too, and today I found this (https://beautifullifebypaula.com/lillarose-faq/). It's halfway down the page, the question, "Do Lilla Rose Flexi clips "turn."" So it sounds like they oxidize by existing. Wet hair makes it oxidize faster, but you can polish it away with a jewelry polishing cloth. For silver, it helps to keep things out of "fresh air" so I put my silver in bags with a little black thing called a "anti-tarnishing strip"...it'll probably help with a flexi, too? I don't know how old the page is, but it says Flexis are silver plated so if they still are, it might help? Edit: I learned they are not...thank you :)

Hmm, I think I need to do more "research" too! Yes, yes, it is good to be studious XD

Mine is crooked a lot, too, and seems to get worse later on in the day...like my hair shrinks?! ...and I was looking around the internet instead of working and I read that if you squish the sides in towards the middle, like this ->o-o<-, it will fit a little tighter. This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyx5hLCUEeA) shows how to do it better than my wierd ASCII art... I haven't tried it yet, though. Sometimes it stays in better if I twist a little tighter at the beginning of the bun so it has something solid to stick in to...but I like looser buns lately...

Someone was asking how the metal flexi's hold up as far as the finish? So far I only have one that looks to be tarnishing(?). It is also my only gold toned one. I have only worn it twice and it is looking a bit rough. I may contact the company and let them know. I'll update with a photo when I get a chance. From now on I'll steer clear of the gold ones.

Err … I don't think they've ever been silver plated! On the actual flexi pages it will tell you, most are nickel but you also get brass, copper, rhodium (I think) and some others that I can't remember - it's been a while since buying any.

Thanks, Aithne! That's a really helpful link and it has sizing information for the various 8's (leather, clips, flips, sport etc) all on one page in addition to tons of other info.

My order came in just in the nick of time before work yesterday, so I tried out the sport! The flexi flip style with indents on both sides seemed to snag a bit on my hair, so I'll need to be more cautious when using it in the future. It seems like depending on the style, it is hard to fit all my hair "in" the flexi. While leaving out substantial amounts clearly works for others, I haven't mastered that either!

All in all, I really like the way that the more matte, grippy surface holds my hair, but it's certainly going to take me a bit of time to figure out how to keep my hair as secure as I'd like in a smaller clip. It might just be that I need to use the sport with different styles.

If any of mine tarnish and look bad after awhile, I’m going to paint them gold. Not exactly the same I know, but better than tarnished. In fact, I’ve painted a few hair accessories chrome gold and even sparkly gold and some have lasted for years and still look amazing. I will see how it goes.

I finally got a picture of my first flexi. :D I liked the half leather half beaded look.
https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=47908&d=1668572930

Does it look too big? It's a braided bun so the bun is more compact than a non braided bun (which I haven't tried the flexi with yet). Next time I will fan the braid a little more to fill things in.

I also had a lot of lopsidedness while wearing. I need to work on that too

I ALMOST avoided the black Friday sale by convincing myself that I just got flexis, but I saw the leather 8s and picked up a few neutral colors to add extra support to stick held buns. I figured for 50% off and making my current sticks more usable, it was worth it! I prefer single sticks rather than pairs so on my slippery days post wash, the extra grab helps.

Yay! My Black Friday items arrived yesterday, and I am so pleased with them. The Honeybee🐝and the Peacock are 2 I have been drooling over for a while. The crescent moon 🌛 is very Art Deco looking. The leaves 🍁 and pinecone are classy looking for the fall and the green flower will look nice with my red hair. Most are size large, but they were out of large in the honeybee, so I opted for Medium.

I had forgotten to show the replacement I got for my tarnished flexi. I chose the green shamrock. 🍀

I really like that bumblebee one you got and the one with the leaves and the pine cones especially….so gorgeous for Autumn. 🍁🍂🌾 Oh and the peacock of course….I have 2 of them myself.

Err … I don't think they've ever been silver plated! On the actual flexi pages it will tell you, most are nickel but you also get brass, copper, rhodium (I think) and some others that I can't remember - it's been a while since buying any.
Thank you! I didn't know. ...I guess I don't read the descriptions on the Lilla Rose website *embarrassed blush* I corrected it in my post, though :)

Thanks, Aithne! That's a really helpful link and it has sizing information for the various 8's (leather, clips, flips, sport etc) all on one page in addition to tons of other info.

That was me, GoatLady. Good to know about the possible problem with the gold toned ones, so thank you for the heads-up!
You're welcome...sorry this reply is so late. I'm really disorganized when it comes to the forums...but I figure it's okay since it's not work... :) I kind of wonder how other people keep track/surf the forums...maybe I'll ask that question where it belongs someday :)

Unfortunately, Aithnes trick to get the flexi to stay better worked, so no excuses for me (yet!)
Yay! I'm glad it worked :) It's not my trick though, it's the website lady's trick:)

Goatlady, your flexi's are pretty! I love the moon and the peacock best  The bee is really cool, too! Black Friday is a lovely thing, isn't it? ...but my wallet disagrees...

For the first time in ages, I bought new flexis. I got one surprise mega which, obviously, is way too big but I wanted to try out the size and it was only $5. I'm hoping I can wear it with a paranda. If not, I have more growing to do. I also got a silver stick but I accidentally ordered it in small and it's way too small. I may have to return them but they don't have any more silvers so I'm not sure what to exchange them for. In any case, I'm super excited to start wearing the Christmas ones.

Thanks. I was worried that I'd hate the surprise clip but now I'm kind of wishing I ordered it in L. But, I got it to work well with a paranda braided bun so I can wear it now. I'm totally going to wear it paired with the pins now. I did debate about getting the Madeline, I think it was called. It was red with dangles. But I decided that the cardinal had less of a chance of catching in my hair.

Oh that’s wonderful Shorty89 love, that you found a way to make your mega work. Although mega is supposedly “my size”, I never worry about sticking to any one size or thinking that one size is my only size. So silly. I can get this crazy thick hair all up in just a large or an extra large…because I use as much hair as will fit in the clip, leaving some out at the top too… and then I wrap the rest around, using a few bobby pins to secure. Here is an example below, to illustrate how I do it. You can make any size flexi work for you.

You may have missed the post of my cardinal clips earlier. As much as I wish silver looked good in my hair, it just ends up clashing with my blonde…so I actually painted one sparkly gold and it’s perfect now. I posted this shot before but just to give you an idea. Flexies can be painted….especially if they tarnish through the years. Food for thought.

You mentioned dangly types and the possibility of them catching in your hair…I have a couple dangly flexies and I don’t find they catch in my hair at all…so you might be surprised. Lilla Rose makes the danglies I have, very smooth with no sharp edging that may cause issues.

Your bun is so neat and tidy! It's perfectly round and centered so nicely. I love it :) It doesn't look rough at all! The flexi looks perfectly placed, too. Mines are always crooked or get crooked... I never thought I'd think a skull was cute, but it is!

I actually used a metallic gold nail polish, followed by a sparkly gold top coat nail polish…and then I used a glossy lacquer from the paint department to protect the paint and make it nice and smooth, with no snags to catch on my hair.

I have a few other hair accessories I painted years ago…one of which is a claw clip I painted 10 years ago and it looks as beautiful as the day I painted it….so it’s extremely long lasting.

Super pretty, rosenester hun! That copper color looks lovely in your hair. Buns don’t have to be neat to be beautiful. Sometimes the messy and carefree look is just as nice, and with such busy lifestyles these days, spending too long on hairdos is just not appealing for many people.

Whirly Girly, thanks for the compliment. I have always been a messy-bun girl, and have so many short layers I have to just rock the look whether I want to or not. Hoping that if I grow my layers to BSL while maintaining my length between WL and HL I’ll be able to alternate with some more ‘neat’ buns and braids eventually. Though, my nape wisps and face framing and bangs are always pretty wild looking no matter :silly:

I'm not super excited about the grouping this month, and it looks like the surprise gift is a bobby pin, which I don't love, but I do think the January flexi, in blue, is gorgeous so I bit. https://shops.lillarose.biz/MemberToolsDotNet/ShoppingCartv4/ProductDetailv4.aspx?CartMode=0&ProductID=35164&CatalogueID=211&MG=2&G1=126&G2=127&referringDealerId=43096

I feel the same way about having multiple sizes…I have them all….right down to extra small. Lol. I do my hair so many different ways, that you can always make one fit, one way or the other. Sometimes I buy two of the same clip in different sizes, to incorporate them both into one style….looks kinda charming and cute. I’ll show a shot of this soon.

I’m feeling WILD, I just ordered 3 surprise me clips, I will hold onto them for gifts if they don’t suit my style. :face:

What fun! :hifive: I can't wait to see what you get. :)

I was wondering where you were. Busy partying, I guess. Hope you had a lovely holiday.

Thank you dear.:flower: I hope you did as well. Actually I’m not much of a party person and I don’t ever drink but I was away for part of Christmas and then had family at my place the rest of the time…so I had minimal time for internet. At the end of every day, I was so pooped that all I could do was fall into bed.

I haven't. I seem to gravitate to the flashier, fancier flexi's. My everyday apparel is farm clothes, jeans and flannel shirts in the winter. But the one thing on me that can be "fancy" is my hair.

I totally hear ya about loving the fancy clips best….me too….but I love the sport flexies for when I’m just hanging out in my jammies on the couch…or for when I’m exercising. The colors are so great! Speaking of which, they finally got some more pink ones in stock so I placed an order! I was proud of myself because I only ordered 6 clips this time. 2 sport clips and 4 fancy ones. I’ll show them when they arrive.

I think it’s great that you enjoy fancy clips even when doing farm work. I can relate, as I’m the type who will wear a fancy dress to the grocery store.

Ohhhh the anticipation of a surprise! How exciting, rosenester hun! :cheer: Be sure to show us please!

All of a sudden I can make do with an XS for my peacock twist. Never in my life. I mean, you've seen my signature, right? All that hair? Well... Beats me what happened to it.

Sorry to hear that, lapushka love….what do you think the reason is? Could be many causes for us women…menopause, thyroid issues, extreme stress, physical trauma, etc.

Eight years ago, I had some hair loss… 3 months after a physical trauma. My hair thinned out quite a bit then and was coming out in gobs in the shower and after brushing. Lasted one month and then it completely stopped. Seemed like my hair came back doubly thick afterwards. I was terrified during that month, that I was going to lose it all. I complain about my heavy hair but the truth is I’m not looking forward to menopause later or getting older because it may thin out some….or a lot…who knows.

Hope it comes back for you, love. :flower:

I was really having to try hard to understand which angle I was actually seeing your hair from, haha. That is one impressive bun!

I did something right with my flexi today, but I have no clue what I did right... I have been having some issues with a loopy flexi (this goes for hair sticks too, I put them in at the right angle, but my bun twists). Anyway, I kind of squeezed the flexi a bit and did something to it to make it hold just right over my nautilus. No twisting and turning, comfortable. So annoying that I can't remember what I did, because now I have to redo to learn what I did right.....

Haha, I think that sometimes myself…if people even know what they’re looking at in my pics. I take all my own shots as I live alone, so they’re sometimes not all that great. This shot is of the back of my head. If you don’t see an ear, you can almost always assume that it’s a back-of-head shot. Lol.

Thank you about the bun, SeppV. Mostly I just like goofing around with styles until something comes out half decent. I totally know what you mean about not remembering how you did certain dos. Happens all the time. Hope you figure out what you did right. If you did it once, you’ll do it again. Matter of time.

I’m still waiting on my lilla rose order but this order is taking forever. According to the tracking, it’s been in Los Angeles for 5 days now. No idea why it’s moving so slowly this time but I think I’ll give Lilla a ring tomorrow and see if they can shed some light. Anxious to get it.

My 3 surprise flexi’s arrived the other day. They are 2 medium and one small. Unfortunately blue is my least favorite color  but I love the heart and roses one and may try the other 2 or save in the wrapper to gift. And a picture of the one I picked in action holding a sticky-outy cinnabun

Rosenester: Funny about the blue color, because the moment I saw it I thought to myself that the color would look so good in your hair!! ;-)

My current order is still held up in Los Angeles …might be due to some bad weather they’ve had recently? Who knows. Trying to be patient.

Wearing one of my favorite dangly flexies today.

Oh Cool GoatLady….hope you do.

Sometimes I even separate the hanging pony tail into two sections that I twist and then bobby pin the ends at the top of my head, as illustrated below. ⬇️

Does anyone have any experience with international shipping?

I did an order on the 16th, it was shipped on the 18th, when I try to track the shipping it appears to be staying put... There is this message "Due to limited uplift capacity and flight cancellations, we are experiencing a disruption in service from the West Coast into Australia."

Sadness. I know there must be a good reason for any delays but I wish there was a bit more info with the tracking, or an estimated delivery date.

I know a user here, Natt i nord, ordered from them not too long ago... she lives in Germany and had some issues with tracking, if I remember correctly. But I think the items arrived! (Correct me if I am wrong, Natt i nord!)
