I've been on hair toy timeout this year, since I got some great presents at christmas and then some unexpected expenses in January.... but I may have to make an exception for the FOTM. I love it. I love the green, I love the celtic-y trinity symbol, I love the silver/copper combo. It's just so pretty. Can't wait to be enabled by action shots!!!

Here's the rose gold bow in outdoor light, for reference. Pretty true to shop photos imo. It's a softer color than pure copper, which is much brighter/more orange to me. Rose gold is an alloy made of gold and copper, so that's why.

I like the Trinitee but I'm not that fond of silver on myself (but then again the combo of the silver+copper+green is just... super pretty). I can't afford to do anything about it for a few weeks yet so I have time to think about it.

Yeah, it's a cooler green than the more beads on the 8, I noticed that too. Just enough variation to make it super versatile, I think.

Thanks! I like the bow because it's fairly simple and will go with everything. Especially since it matches my hair anyway, and I never leave the house without that ;D

I can finally work with my flexi 8! I had two for years but they never work in my hair, I thought they were to small but they were too big actually. I can wear them in a lazy wrap bun now :cheer:

I've decided against the Trinitee (it's gorgeous on all of you, but I'm not sold on such a big centerpiece in silver... Here's my flexi-8 bun for ballet today! I put some extra pins in it because I haven't used one of these in a while, but I'm hoping it will hold well!

Update: the flexi-8 held through ballet very well! It was a turns day too, so it was whipping all over the place, and it may have loosened a little by the end of class, but it doesn't feel like it's going to fall out!

I did a slightly loose ponytail first and stuck the stick under the hair tie so it's really in there.

You could try a size smaller than what you have, I see you use this as a cage. Nice, but less secure. A smaller size will stick through the coils and keep things much better in place.:)

I'm trying to figure out how to use a smaller size and hold down all my frizzies and ends. I'm working on growing out layers, so there's lots of wild little hairs that love to poke out of everything. I'd rather not use extra pins if I don't have to.

If this is used as a buncage (meaning the stick goes under the entire bun and the bun is only held in shape with the 8) then with a size smaller the bun will be held firmer on its own. Don't use it as a cage, but go through the left and right side outer coil and the bun will get squished in place.

People have tried at a meeting to wiggle the bun loose on my head on purpose and failed :)

Black Friday--end of November (when the FOTMs for the year re-appear), and around the New Year are the major sales, with minor ones speckled here and there.
No yearly catalogue that I know of.

April's FOTM is not my style. (So I won't have a new beauty in my collection, but I also won't spend money. With FOTMs, whether I like and buy them or not, it is always good in a way :D) But I like Florinda. Just not enough to buy it separately now. I think I will wait for some other clip that I like and order Florinda with it if it's still available. If not, I won't regret too much. I like the centre a lot, but not the Svelte loops. I'd rather have some beads, because I already have one Svelte design and they are too similar to have more. The green accents do not help much.

I wish they did custom orders. I have a few ideas ready for custom clips.

Yeah I'd go on the smaller size with these clips if you have slip.

I have fine, slippery, waist length hair, and a small holds a ponytail...a medium works for my buns.
Large I can use as well depending on the bun.

A peacock twist I cannot use a flexi for; it must be claw like or a barrette...I just have too much slip :shrug:

For a half up I wouldn't trust a clip alone unless it is extra small.
Occasionally (to be sure it is secure), I put a couple of clear hair ties on the stick....or I do a ponytail with a clear tie and then use the clip over it for decoration.

For holding a bun, they work fine for me.

For holding a ponytail, nope, slides right out. (Not a size issue - I have an XXS that slides out even when I close it around as much hair as I can possibly stuff into it.) As Groovy Granny says, it'll work on top of a hair tie as decoration.

Another fine slippery hair here! Echoing what's said above; I can sometimes get a flexi to work for a twist or a pony, but often not. At APL they worked well for me to hold buns. My best bun holder was (currently too short for it right now) one of the ones that uses a separate stick. I suspect one of that type in a small would be a good twist and pony tail holder for me.

Guess I'm lucky ,a xs flexi holds my hair great in a pony with no elastic.Maybe it depends on hair texture..A small is ok but a xs works best-it doesn't move at all in my pony.I have hip length hair now,close to tbl.Average thickness.But curly with a bit of frizz.

After my chop I could do a french twist at APL with a flexi before I could do a bun. But my hair isn't very slippery. I can put my hair up in a bun with nothing and I'm not even back to waist yet.

My hair is fine, slippery and fairly plentiful, and I have every size Flexi you can get. They work beautifully for me in all kinds of styles as long as I select the best fit for the job and make sure my updo is wrapped well around the stem, or braid tassels are long (more meat for the sandwich). I don't have any worry with them holding ponytails, either (I love the leather ones for this as they offer some grip, and you can adjust them to fit via the thickness, shape and material of the stick you use).

My hair is quite slippery on Day 1 and 2 and they hold really well for me, even through dance classes.

Ugh the May FOTM is gorgeous, but I really shouldn't be buying hairtoys because I'm about to graduate and I need to save for an apartment and other adult things.

Wow, that looks cool, meg! And I'm hearing you on the slipsville, although mine comes in the worst after day 2 (humid location/climate). :lol: I can understand the holding power for dance classes as my Flexis are the only things I can use swimming that hold underwater and in currents as well.

And I forgot to mention another thought on the FOTM: It's quite bridal, and reminds me of my own minimal headwear waaaaaaaaaaay back when I got married. I think that's another reason I'm loving it so much. So whimsical, feminine and delicate. I'm not all that girly myself, but I do like the understated stuff.

This is the first time I've seen it, too, but it sounds like a stock ordering issue. As it happens, someone mentioned on another site that according to their consultant, the full quantity of XL clips didn't arrive in time. So, I'd imagine Lilla Rose only have a given amount of stock to sell that's still incoming to them from their supplier. Once gone, it's gone.

I know... I think I've only once seen a real re-stocking, when Who's Hoo, the owl with black beads, was a FOTM. It sold out and people wrote so much about wanting more that they said there would be more later in the month.

LR ships internationally for $4, but once the value of the clip goes over roughly $24 we run a high risk of getting hit with duties and taxes. In the NL for example that is roughly $14 in duties plus 21% of the value of the clip.

That's a lot :( And the threshold is so low! In Poland, we have to pay import tax if the value is equal to €150, or more than that. (That's $164 as of today.) Even when the exchange rate between PLN and € is bad, that's still a lot of shopping for me. My biggest Flexi8 order (so far ;) ) was 6 XL clips, and it was still under €150.

OK.. knowing now the design is upside down... I just took it out of my hair and took a good looksee. I turned it upside down (so made it a left handed clip), I turned it back around to the way it was.. and went and did that a few times.

You know what? I actually like it better when it is this wrong way around!

The Floressa never had the choice from the moment it was listed. It's the same for the Dogwood and Northstar flexis--no L or R choice, but I can understand that as the flower/star are symmetrical. The Floressa's three different sprays of flowers--XXS, XS: single flower, S, M, L: 3 flowers + more leaves, XL, XXL: 4 flowers + balance of leaves--were presented a certain way in the sales pics, and that does lead to expectations and the potential for disappointment >> return of sales due to misrepresentation and lack of easy modification. :popcorn:

Exactly.. if it were relatively easy to just open the centerpiece and flip it over, but I think that .. even IF you can get the two metal bits on the back to bend open .. they might break when you close them again.


I DO hope they will know what they are doing here and mine was just an oops, because it has the potential for a LOT of returns.

The community of customers just needs to write messages to them :) Again, I remember that with Who's Hoo they said that after so many requests, they were going to make more clips, and they did, all sizes returned later in the month. And the owl is now a permanent clip as well (as Night Owl). Plus, I think when they see something sells out fast, they know there are many potential clients still willing to give them their money ;)

It seems that the clips are meant to be multi directional meaning left and right handed users can use the same one. The ones in the pic were the prototypes, but production went the other way. And of course, you can return them if you do not like it. But yeah it was a prototype to production error in trying to have it usable for lefties and righties.

When I was falling asleep yesterday I had some thought about the picture flipping. I know that it didn't change the v to ^ orientation, but if you flip the picture and then imagine flipping the clip itself as it is shown in this picture... does it change the ^ and v orientation of the design and left/right orientation at the same time? Now I'm asking just theoretically. I just cannot imagine doing these 3 things, I can't create a simulation in my head. What happens if we flip the flexi L to R, flip the v and ^ orientation of the design and flip the picture. I get lost before the second stage. This is why I am not an architect, or a designer, and why parking a car backwards feels like the end of the world. :D

I got my first flexi's today!! Reading this thread gave me flexi envy, lol. I got 2 black leather ones in medium and large and also a stick for them to share. After placing the order, I worried over an over that they would be too big. So many videos encouraged ordering smaller ones unless you have very long hair. Still, these are perfect! I only plan to do french twists and the like. No half ups.

I'm so thrilled with these. They are really light-weight. :D

I've noticed that my Flexis need more time to arrive. I know the site says... 4 weeks or something... for overseas shipping, but for years, as a rule, I'd get mine in a week sharp. 10 days if it was winter, but not necessarily. Now 2-3 weeks is a rule, once or twice I was seriously worried because the package would land in Europe or even in Poland, but was stuck in some city for several days.

Cherish is the heaviest clip I have. It's ridiculously heavy. When I lifted the envelope I thought there are two clips and I wondered what else I had ordered (without being aware of it :D ) It may not look so heavy but it is. The red heart is much bigger in reality than in the pictures. I've had no problems with wearing it, though.

There's something that I probably shouldn't say openly, or it will change :D The thing is, whenever I see a FOTM that I love and want to have, I buy it at once because I'm afraid it will sell out in a day or two. And it's available till the end of the month. Take Cherish for example. Honey Bee. Grace. Most cases are like that.

There's something that I probably shouldn't say openly, or it will change :D The thing is, whenever I see a FOTM that I love and want to have, I buy it at once because I'm afraid it will sell out in a day or two. And it's available till the end of the month. Take Cherish for example. Honey Bee. Grace. Most cases are like that.

That's it! I love the way they look in other people's hair, but I just know I wouldn't wear them. It's the same for me with other things as well. A wonderful dress, but I don't want it (because the colour in itself is beautiful, but I don't like it on myself.) Great house, but I wouldn't like to live in it, etc.
When I was younger, I could't understand it when people said such things. Now I do :D

As far as I remember, if there's any sale, they print the actual sale price on the envelope sticker form, not the value. And it's not about the strict value, it's about how much we actually pay, I think, that customs office is interested about. How much money is actually transferred. I can find a rare book that's worth $500 and buy it for $20 from someone who's no idea what they have. The value doesn't matter. I transferred $20, that's ho much money travelled between countries.

Oooh, good to hear! I really want the Iris flexi too, but the limit for paying custums is €22 and the flexi is €22,29! Noooo. I might chance it if I like the U-pins. :)

I ordered from Cultmate twice. They do have a customer service and since I had an issue with a Ficcare clip I had to stalk them and I mean STALK them to answer me. I guess they just don't care? Never crossed paths with a webshop like that before. It just doesn't make sense to me to not put your (prospective) customers first.

I don't think I already made note of this here, but when I first hung my set up with my other toys it ended up right beside my opal acrylic stick - it's an amazing match to the non-flashy side of it. I wish it was easier to capture in a photo.

Heh, yes. My first reaction on seeing it was "Oh yuck, the word we're looking for here is SOULLESS."

I like the centre on Seastar, but I most emphatically do not do that puffy tubing stuff. If they ever put that centre on a conventional Flexi -- or, for preference, on a braided 8, of which there are nowhere near enough style choices IMO -- I'd buy it.
