Sad Panda... The mega is only on Lilarose, which isn't so bad, but the only two designs are in brass and gold tones. I am a silver girl. Man, deja vu... did I post this before?

I didn't know about Lilarose. I saw it on the flexi8 site today. They have added the mega flexi button but no styles were included, just saying "more products are coming soon".

Maddie - great choices & very pretty in your hair. Fufu - I ordered the purple one you have in XXL so it's great to see how it will look. Igor - the two matching ones look great in the folded braid. It's great that they were able to make them the way you wanted. I had to send all my L and XL back for XXL and got an email that it would be a little while before I got them back. I can't wait. I will post pics when I get them.

My ponytail is a little over 4" around...what size do you guys thing I'd need for ponytail and half up?

Fufu
January 22nd, 2011, 02:37 AM
Kaelee: I'm not good in the measurements, perhaps small or medium? I used small for pony tails and half ups, i usually grab more so i could equally use small.

WOo hoo, i'm going to get an extra small and medium next, looks like im going to collect all the sizes.

Emerald88: The purple is very subtle, it will be ideal for people who doesn't want very bling hair accessories on their hair .

Tried out 2 simple hairdos

Pony tail up (pardon the mess)

Most likely a medium for ponytails, I think. I have a similar ponytail circumference and a small is only just too small. I can't quite close it. For a half-up, I guess it depends on how much hair you like to put into yours. I could use my small for a half-up, but it would take a lot of my hair. I'd prefer a smaller one for half-up.

I was thinking of ordering a flexi-8 or two as a gift for a friend, but she is sensitive to some metals used in inexpensive jewelry. Do you think she would have trouble with the flexi-8s? I don't have any yet myself (but if I end up getting the gift ones I will definitely get a couple for me too!)

Kaelee

Well they're going in her hair and probably won't have much contact with her skin, so it should be fine. :)

Not so sure about that. They contain nickel afaik and they get in contact with the scalp if you use them in updos. I'd rather be careful.

Igor, Lovely Flexi8's. Great choice. Love that they made a left-handed one!

My first test of the style I bought the two Intricate soaring butterfly with purple-iris metallic beads (http://www.flexi8.com/1214.html) in large for:
Folded up Dutch braid
Look how perfect it looks with one right-handed and one left-handed above each other?
I’m so very pleased with the result!

That braid is absolutely beautiful! It's a good thing you went with the L. They look awesome in your hair!

Plus she has very (!) thin hair for medical reasons so I think there could be quite a bit of scalp contact. I'd better err on the side of caution and pass. Thanks very much for the information. I will have to think of some other excuse to order some for myself....:o

When I wear them, the pin is in contact with my scalp, but the loop is not. I suggest you 1) ask the Flexi people and 2) get some for yourself and have her try them on.

Is there a failsafe way to work out what size you need for an unconventional style?

I'm after a pair to use to milkmaid braids; I think they would hold well at the temples and allow me to put far fewer pins in than I usually need to. Low iii thickness holding the thickest and the thinnest end of a braid when I don't have too much taper? I'm also growing layers out so the ends will thicken up.

I have a large which sort of holds, but I need smaller ones. Is it better to go too small or too large? I pretty much only wear buns or braids so I don't want to make sure I get the right one for this style as it will be it's only use.

Ideas?

My hair is around 5 or so in a ponytail and the XL is a bit big for a ponytail, I'm going to get a large for that (much further out in time, possibly May) I suggest you get a medium or a small for your ponytail and a small/x-small for your half up.

Story time! My mom bought a purse at Goodwill, and she said it felt like there was something in it. It was empty, but there was a hole in the lining. She pulled out a small Flexi-8! The real thing, too, not a knock-off. And she has short hair, so she gave it to me today. I really like it. All I've tried is a ponytail, but so far so good. I think it might be too big for a half-up on my thin hair, but hey, it was free!

Hurrah! Mine arrived in the mail today. I tried them out, and have to thank everyone who helped me decide on size, because they work perfectly for half-up and ponytail respectively. I'll post pics as I wear them out this week.

ETA: Question about how to use the bumps on the pin - the further in the more curve to the 8 so its looser? Its kinda confusing to work with.

SpinDance
January 26th, 2011, 05:04 PM
Congrats, squintinschool! Glad they are working for you. :)

As for what bump to use, I just make it as tight as is comfortable and don't worry about it much. I'm sure you'll decide quickly what you prefer.

Thanks for those good ideas! I did contact the Flexi folks about it, and just got back confirmation: "Our hair clips are plated with nickel." So they won't work for my metal-sensitive friend, but anyway I'm glad to know for sure, and I still plan to get some for me.

Just got back from being out of town for a couple days and my Flexi was here!! So I got inside, ripped it open and started playing (as evidenced by the photo - my feeble attempt at a Nautilus bun, which my hair still is a bit too short to do and make look good) But OMG!!! I LOVE this thing! I want 50. No lie. Next time I can, I'm DEF getting more!!!

I have the same sensitivity, but no problem with flexies so far! I don't know whether the metal's safe, or it just doesn't touch enough of the skin to cause a problem, but I've been fine.

Whoops, just finished the thread and saw the other responses - sorry!

Flexis are just too awesome and affordable to resist :p

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/Angelphie/Flexi.jpg

Not sure you can see all of them clearly, but I have 2 minis, 1 extra-small, 2 smalls, 3 mediums, 3 larges.

Minis I use for half-ups or just as decoration
The extra-small fits my ponytail perfectly, but my hair’s too straight and slippery for it to stay in no matter what I’ve tried, so sadly I can only use this one decoratively in buns. It may have to go to the swap board.
Smalls work for my French twists and figure of 8 buns
Mediums are good for most other buns, but they can be a bit too snug
Usually for buns I use a large which will go right over them, they’re generally they’re a bit easier to use than a medium, but it depends on the style and how my hair’s behaving.
As my hair grows the larges should work even better for buns and I might graduate to using the mediums as I currently use smalls. I’m sure I’ll continue to have uses for most sizes - I really like having a range of them.

Julya: it’s a hanging storage thingy I made. There’s a picture here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v202/Angelphie/storage.jpg) which shows it clearly.

You should be able to find similar hanging organisers for sale if you like that approach. The hanging idea suits me because I like having hairtoys on display :) and I made it to fit the end of my bookcase so it doesn't take up much room.

New to the TLHC and Fleixis. I was checking out flexi8.com and I Want! I was wondering if any of you can tell me if they get stuck in your hair at all? Angelphie, thank you for the full picture of your organizer! I love that, I like being able to see my hairtoys, so something like that would work well for me! Is it like one of those closet organizer things that you hang up on a hanger? I will look for something like that next time I am in target or another store like that.

And to cantom03, I do have a couple of flexis that tend to grab onto a hair or two, but I have a very large collection and most of them are fine. They are very pretty!

Lucky you. My medium can barely hold my ponytail. I'm stymied as to what size I'd need for a bun.

Awww, thanks! *blushes*
I very much like the combination of black and silver (I have a lot of jewelry like that too). My hair/skin colour really doesn't play well with gold tones I find.

One more action shot. About a week late, since I wore it for the first time last Friday, but forgot to grab a picture. It held so well that day too (only had to be repositioned once, and that was halfway through 1.5h of figure skating, which is damned impressive when it comes to my hair... usually I have to redo my ponytail at least twice during skating). This was from today, as you can see by the blanket of white out the window.

julya Yes, same idea as the closet/bathroom organisers. I'm sure I've seen others on here using those for hairtoys. Ones with clear pockets might be neat too.

Darkhorse1 so glad you like my display/storage idea! I think it would be a shame to have my Flexis tucked away out of sight in a drawer and I like being able to see everything I have and easily pick out/find what I want to wear.

They don't stretch, but they are very flexible, you can bend them almost into a circle. They have 3 small groves on the bottom edge that catch on the left side so they can be locked into position, so they are adjustable. I love them and *cough* have acquired several sizes.

Well "stretch" isn't the right concept. As pointed out above, the figure 8 part is metal, like guitar strings or piano wire. But the 8 part can elongate or round, giving it an illusion of stretching, so to allow different notches on the stick to catch.

The gold and emerald beads looks brighter in real life than shown in pictures.

I will try to take the other 3 flexi 8s pictures by tomorrow.
I now much preferred the gold to silver.

twolunarspring: The pin is made of nickel as well :). I think the beads are made of coloured plastic beads.

ole gray mare: I think they custom-made flexi 8s for people who are left-handed.

Current flexi 8s

- 3 small flexi 8s (2 silver, 1 gold)
- 1 extra small flexi 8 (vintage gold in multi-coloured beads) I will love this in small half up and clip on at the side of the hair.

Now I'm aiming for a medium for french twist, small is too tight for that :(.

Top to bottom.... An Extra small for half up's....a Small for ponytails....and a Large for a whole bun. Though it's far tighter than I expected and I think I could def go a bit bigger.
So it's looking like there's going to be an x-large, a second medium and a Mini in my future!! (want the mini to secure my braid. :) )

Darn these things for being so pretty and awesome!

I just ordered two more! I got an extra-small for half-ups and a large for twists/buns/etc. I currently have two mediums, which work well for tails-up or a loose pony. I'm excited to get the extra small, I love half-ups but never do them because regular clips rip my hair. I got an antique brass extra small, the large is silver. Both my mediums are silver too.

I found my missing Flexi* XL that I was lamenting the misplacement of some time ago. I threw my hair up and realized anew that the XL is a bit small for a full bun, but I parted my hair and did two buns, one held with my comb (that one is folded) and one in my Flexi (Nautilus) and It worked out quite well. Man I want an XXL :wish:

I ordered Flexi's last week, and a week ago Friday I got the email saying it had been shipped. But my account still hasn't been debited?

Did this happen to anyone else? I'm wondering if they have actually been shipped?

Has anyone "gone for it," and signed up to do their MLM thing? I am seriously thinking of doing this myself - I am going back to flying (YAY!!), and the opportunities to sell these things will be tremendous. But I'm wondering if anyone has tried it, and how they're doing with it. Feel free to PM me if a conversation like this isn't appropriate for the board - thanks in advance! :flower:

I am going to have to give my flexi's a go again. I haven't used them for forever. I never mastered them. And it doesn't help that I'm left handed so the design always ended upside down. Yikes. I think I'll pull 'em out and give 'em another go.

Igor requested a left-handed one from them so that she had a matching pair (one left-handed, one right-handed). I'm sure if you emailed them they would make you some lefty ones too. ^_^

Enabler? Why, yes, I am... :D

I have officially been enabled. I've been on the LHC for just over 2 years now, but haven't ever given into the hair toy temptation. Now I have!

I bought 3 ficcares and 4 flexi-8s this last week.

1x Item #0216 at $12.00
...... Fairy with aurora borealis faceted crystal
...... Description: extra_small/silver

1x Item #1639 at $24.00
...... Diamond shaped center with dangles in smoky topaz
...... Description: extra_large/silver

1x Item #1054 at $19.00
...... Native inspired filigree with jade heart beadwork
...... Description: extra_large/silver

1x Item #1214 at $15.00
...... Intricate soaring butterfly with purple-iris metallic beads
...... Description: large/silver

I'm hoping the extra small will be good for half ups where I french braid the rest of my hair. It is so adorable! It has a little fairy. I'm pretty sure I'll be an extra large for buns, but I also got a large just in case.

I'm justifying my purchases by saying I'm pregnant, and when the baby comes I'll need my hair securely up and out of the way! :)

I used international priority, $13. The website is so reasonable about international shipping. The ficcare site is terrible with it. I had to have them shipped to my sister, and then she'll ship them to me. At least the shipping to her was free though.

Is there a comprehensive article somewhere with flexi how to hair styling? Or should I just peruse this thread some more?

So, my L (a silver one: Roman cross center with red beads, I think it was custom) is getting a bit on the small side for Nautiluses and Logroll-type things. I'm thinking of getting an XL and a Mega (only one of each for the time being ... student budget!). But, I have a question for you all (and I realise I'm being lazy for not looking back through the thread... but it's sooooo big! I did look through the last 10 or so pages):

Is there anyone here who's blonde and has an antique bronze or a black nickel one? And, if so, would you mind posting pictures of it in your hair?

I know the gold would blend in far too much with my hair as I'm a dark blonde but I'm not sure about the other two colours and, anyways, flexis that look meh on the website can actually look really stunning when they're in hair.

Not that I know of. However, I find that I can use flexi8s with any hairstyle intended for hairsticks--simply pretend the pin on the flexi is a hairstick. To my symmetry-obsessed brain it looks better if it's a style where you can place the stick horizontally though :)

Just got my flexi today and I LOVE it! I'm thinking of ordering a bigger one so I can put all my hair up, but I'm not sure what size to get. A small holds a half up do, but won't hold it all in a pony tail. I'm thinking maybe a medium would work, but when all my hair is up, there's a lot of it. Hmmm. Will have to think it over as I'm on a tight budget right now :D

Well, it depends on how you want to put your hair up. I usually keep my hair in a nautilus bun, which I can do with a large, but it's easier with an extra-large. My hair seems similar to yours, I'm at 34 inches, iii. I'd need a medium for a ponytail, I can no longer close the small one.

Saturday, for a bridal shower, I wanted to dress up my hair a little, so I decided to try the Flexi in somethig new.
I used a nine-inch stick to wrap my hair into a Chinese bun. Then, after pinning the edges with Spin Pins and Good Hairdays pins, I carefully removed the stick, but held the places where the stick had been poking through and put my XL Flexi on (weaving it through the hair near the scalp then back out the slide). I asked my spouse how it looked and my darling said it looked "like an intricate ball of hair."

It looked really nice actually, I wonder if I can re-produce it?

Hey squint---thanks for letting me know--that's my concern. That a medium wouldn't allow for a lot of hair styles. I think a large might be the best route to go for now.

Hey squint--just looked at your photos--I think you have thicker hair than I do, so medium might work--but, it's going to also depend on humidity levels as my hair gets way thicker/fuller in the summer time. Hmmmmmm

Darkhorse1, no problem. I don't mind that its only useful for a ponytail, it just means I have a reason to buy more!:p

My hair has a 4.25" ponytail circumference, so I'm just barely a iii. However, when down it looks like more since my waves give lots of (often unwanted) volume.

I'd love to try more flexi-8s, as I have one, but it doesn't seem to fit me properly (that or I'm just too dumb to use it)...

I have a xs, and since my hair is only APL is fairly fine/straight, I figured that would be a good size for me, but I can't do any of the styles suggested online other than simply putting it in a pony, and even that is a struggle... is my flexi too small or am I just hair-toy challenged?

I want to buy more, but I can't decide on a small or medium!

napth--that's the same flexi I got, but had the heart scrolled center of another flexi put in the middle. I do love the tree of life and seeing this makes me want to get a large flexi :D I tend to do more rolls than full buns.

ladylove--I had troubles with flexi's too. I think some of us fall just to a half size too small or too big. Such as the mini flexi is too small for half up dos for me, but the small is a hair too big, so I have to take larger sections.

Oooh, this is not doing good things for my patience! I just purchased two wooden barrettes so I need to wait 'til April to pick up some Flexi-8s. I've got four picked out & will pick them up two at a time - every other month. *sigh* (if only the kids wouldn't keep outgrowing their clothes!)

I was wondering... could anyone tell me the difference in XL vs XXL for holding an entire bun? My hair is 34" long, (hip-length) SUPER-fine, but with a 4" ponytail girth. I thought I would need an XL - but as I'm browsing through posts here I'm wondering if that might be too tight to hold everything securely?

The other thing I'm worried about is ponytails. I'm pretty sure I would need a medium, but I've had problems with other stick-style barrettes sliding right out. Is this a concern or should these hold? I know that if I get desperate I can always use this over an elastic, but I'd rather not plan on doing that from the beginning since I was hoping to use this to prevent ponytail-breakage.

Love it! What sizes are they?:inlove:

The smallest (up left) is XS, the ones under it are S (all but the one green M).
Up right I have XL and the ones under it are L.

I really didn´t want such a collection, it just happened...
At first I ordered XS, S and M. My hair was barely to my shoulders and the only updo I could do was tails up and S was good for that.
Even M was too big...

But now that my hair has got longer, I can do buns to which M was too small... So I ordered some L sizes. The XL is still a tiny bit too big, but not for long, I think (no trimming this year, either).

I do love my flexis, they are so handy! And secure! And pretty! :)

I thought I asked before but maybe not. In terms of bun size, what is the difference between M and L? I love my M to pieces but it's a squeeze to fit it around my normal bun. I have to do this oval shaped bun (which isn't nearly as cool as it sounds) to make it work. Do you think it would be worth forking out for a L?

I think L could work for you, it is a little bigger than M. But of course you have to try out yourself.
I have had some updos where M fitted barely and was quite tight, and there L worked much better. I say if your flexi is very tight and it is difficult to get it around a bun, a bigger size will work better.

You can see M and L in the picture I just posted (a couple of posts up).

I have to chip in to say that the difference between the XL and the XXL is quite big. I had problems fitting my bun into XL so I ordered some XXLs.

I received mine about 3-4 months ago but realized that the fit was way too loose. I could only start wearing them comfortably about 2-3 weeks ago.

However, you mentioned that you intend to grow your hair longer so it wouldn't hurt to go ahead with the XXL

I am in love with the last flexi - the one with the hummingbird centerpiece :crush:
I haven't seen it before. Is it a discontinued style?

I think they only have it in the tinier versions. The one I have is a Small. I looked at the website and searched the bigger sizes and didn't see it. Maybe someone should suggest that they add it!

Hiriel and Sundail, thanks for the responces, that helps alot! I searched the thread for "mega" and didn't see any pics or reviews.:)

Naphthylamine, on flexi8.com in "contact us" it tells how to order a flexi with any of the centers they offer. Like the Laughinglynxie said, many styles are avalible in the mini threw small sizes that you can request on a larger size. I looked quick and didn't see the hummingbird but it never hurts to contact them. Their customer service is very good.

Hey homeschoolmama, I use a small for my ponytails. (my circum. is 3.5) and they do slip on my fine hair, but not too much....I have to readjust about 3-4 times in the day, however breakage is nil....i would think you'd have the same experience with a medium....

Thanks Carabean! Sounds like it should work perfectly for a few hours out - not so much for an all-day pony. That's about what I was hoping for with my slippery hair!

Yay! I found it in the smalls section :cheese: Thank you both laughinglynxie and cantom03 :) Small is an awkward size for me - I cannot do much styles with it. It would be really nice to get the bird on a medium or large. I will contact them and ask if they can make it on my next order :)

So I pretty much copied Igor's style from a while back - I was having a heck of a time trying to get my large flexi to work for buns. :silly: But this works really well, and is pretty stable with just the one holding it. (Excuse the floof and giant pajama shirt.)

I really do like the stlye on flexi's, so I'mma just use this as an excuse to buy some more in bigger sizes/more colors.

Personally I hardly have problems with my hair getting caught. When it does get caught it's usually on the centerpiece when I make a bun without combing my hair first or in a very sloppy bun.

I'm very fond of my flexi8's:bunny: These pictures are taken in daylight, no direct sunlight.

Megaflexi, because the pins are bent a little and they bend away from your head this one is a little less stable (won't stay horizontally as good as the others), I would have preferred the pin to follow the form of my head but it could be the form of my skull (quite pointy in the back:p)

... do any of you ever have a problem with your hair getting caught between the beads?

I have five Flexis and I've NEVER had hair catching between the beads. I do find that it MAY catch very slightly on the bottom protrusion of the "soaring butterfly" centrepiece if I'm careless when I take it off, but this is a very minor issue and I really can't imagine it doing any damage to the hair. Subjectively, Flexis are the most comfortable and most hair-safe barrettes I've ever come across, bar none.

(Uh-oh, I seem to be enabling myself right into ordering a couple more... )

Nope, don't have those issues with the XL. Could be just my hair or skull form though, didn't hear of stability issues from other XXL flexi users. Which one(s) are you contemplating?:eyebrows:

I have got my hair caught in the beads, and on the ends of the stick part - but that's only when I make a non-braided nautilus seeing as I really, really need the next size up and I really have to force the L closed (and the nautilus is the loosest bun I do with a flexi).

WOW, I just LOVE these things!! I just graduated from the Super Shorties thread a couple months ago, and am just now able to do the most rudimentary updos. I've been using the mini's for a year or so to clip my bangs out of my way, but I'm only just recently able to enjoy how gently, yet securely, these things hold my hair in an updo! I don't understand how, but the weight seems to be so well distributed that it feels like it isn't even there. These are going to be AWESOME for those days where my hair has to be up for 12-15 hours at a time! :)

One of the things I love about the Flexi's is that in addition to being comfortable, they are also easy to use. I often undo, fingercomb then put back up during the day. Flexi's make this so fast and easy!

I did a quick search thru this thread, but its very long!!
I want to purchase a flexi 8 and want to get it right the first time.
I want to use is for a french twist bun. I have waist length, slick/fine and straight hair.
I am thinking a Large size?
What do y'all think?

And hello to all lhc friends!
Its been a very long time since my last visit!
I am keeping hair trimmed to waist length now.
I did get practically to classic length and did not enjoy it much.

thinkfirst, it's hard to say exactly what size you need, but I found the instructions for sizing on the site to be good. If your French twist isn't too big, a Large might do it, but if it is fairly bulky you may need an XL. I have thinnish ends atm but they are long enough to wrap around a few times making a Nautilus. I can use a Medium to hold the center of a Nautilus, but a Large will also work fine. I need a Large or X-Large to go through spidermom's bun that stays. An X-Large will also work for me on a figure-8 or infinity bun, although I'm considering trying the new huge one for such things. I don't recall the size name they use and I'm afraid to go look because I do _not_ need more hair toys!

Hi Thinkfirst, the other thing about flexi's that's helpful is they have 3 grooves along the pin for different tightness/thickness. For my hair I use a med for a pony or a 1/2 up, a large for a twist and a mega for a bun. The customer service at flexi8.com is very good too. If you do find you need a different size they will cover return shipping and exchanges are really easy.

I'm new here, welcome back!

What does the blue code do?

I hope they get back to me quickly; I want to know if they have any of an old centrepiece bead left. I have a conundrum.

I have an M flexi that almost holds Heidi braids, and I want a pair so I can hold it like this: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nAAkad2ZHE0/TVHc5aDGNkI/AAAAAAAAAHs/TeftkUzpoDk/s1600/080211+Heidi+Braid+Fakkare+Clips.jpg

Unfortunately, it's a little bit loose. I'm not sure if it's lose enough to get two S clips. The M can hold a ponytail. I was hoping an S might come up on the swap board to try.

If they can't do the matching centre piece then I suppose it doesn't matter as much, but I want to be able to get one M and an XL.

If it's a little loose, do you think I should get an S, or stick with the M? The braid doesn't slide, but there is a little visible pin.

I think I might be allergic to my flexi. :(

I have a silver colour one. I've always had issues with earrings that aren't silver/gold/titanium/other non-allergenic metal. I've been wearing a pretzel bun with my flexi for over a week (lazy hair, due to dissertation) and was getting bad itchies in a horizontal line just below my crown. Have swapped to dp knitting needle hairpin-ed updos / bobby pinned crown braids for nearly a week and the itchy has gone away mostly.

Has anyone else had this problem? Did you have the same problem with all the colours of flexi?

I'm really sad as I love my flexi-8 - it's my favourite, easiest to use hairtoy and I was just planning getting some more.

Fufu, not to be an enabler or anything, but my hairtype is very similar to yours, although a few inches shorter - and I've been using a medium Flexi for my French twist for the past few days. It's a bit gappy just yet (but the medium Flexi I have is SOOOO pretty!), so I'll bet the medium would be perfect for you.

Vorvolaka: We have about the same pony tail circumference. Personally I use small for full ponytail and half up pony tail when I grab more hair, it is also use as a decoration for french braid as shown below. I'm using small gold flexi 8.

I also use extra small flexi 8 for only half up pony tail. Picture as shown below. Personally, I find extra small is really really small for half up already. I am interested to see how a mini will work for half up as I thought it's more for holding up fringe.

Thanks for the help!

Can someone give me some sizing advice please?

I'm a low ii, usually about 2" to 2.25" depending on my hair's mood. I'm thinking a mini for half ups because my half up pony is tiny. I have no idea what to get for a full pony or updo.

My hair seems to be similar. I use a mini for my half-ups and a medium for a full pony. I could probably get a full pony in a small but I had a major shed last summer so I am hoping my hair thickens up a bit. When I bun my hair I need a large.

I'm 2.5" too and I use a mini for half up and an extra small for full ponytail and twist. Now I can't do buns with that though it's too small for that

eta: from flexi8 page

mini= 2" pinch
ex small= 2 3/4" pinch
small= 3 1/4" pinch
Medium= 3 3/4" pinch
Large= 4 1/4" pinch
XLarge= 5 1/4" pinch
Mega Flexi= 6 1/4" pinch

I am just about to order some minis for half ups! :) (Said this on another thread, but I have a 3" pony.) I didn't get any originally...but now I'm finding that I do half-up braids quite often. I have X-smalls for my full ponies and some Smalls for full updos. Pesky slippery hair! I'm hoping that someday I'll need a Medium for buns or something. ;)

WOHOO!! I just got the comfirmation that they shipped my order! Very exciting, and fast since I just ordered it (was it only yesterday!! I have checked like a million times on the status...)
Hopefully I will get it with in the week!

I did about the same first time I ordered. I've ended giving some away as gifts

I kind of figured I might give some away too... I also didn't want to get only a few of them, and then want to order more when I was going to have to pay shipping.. so what the heck.

a gal needs flexis

I wore mine all day and I haven't felt the pull or headache that I might get from hairties or barrettes. It is funny how quickly I feel in love, since a week ago I thought they where kind of corny... haha

I bought the butterfly mini (http://www.flexi8.com/0906.html) and the small jet floral (http://www.flexi8.com/0654.html). I figured the small will do for twists if it's too big for a pony. I would have bought more but stupid UK customs...

Wow, that's a lot. I order international too and never had to pay tax fees when ordering from flexi8. Once I ordered 4 or 5, not sure (all XS). I think customs charge here for the unit price not the whole package, until USD$50, I don't need to pay any taxes. I ordered a ficcare from the site maiden-like hoping I don't have to pay fees because I've read lots of posts complaining about the ficcare tax fees (big box that grabs customs attention was mentioned). I don't know how her boxes are, I'm just playing safe(r), plus the shipping on the ficcare site is no less than USD$22. Her ficcares are a bit more expensive, but the shipping makes it cheaper overall.

Anyway, I have a question about the free shipping on flexi8.com. Do they have a "season" for that, or is it a random thing?

Just recently I saw they put the mega flexi on there!! (I knew we could ask in special instructions before) But I much prefer it this way, since I'm shy. :D I think I'll be buying this lovely pearly one (http://www.flexi8.com/1777.html) soon. I don't have enough hair for it, I think (SL fits nicely) but I can always try a mega sock bun for it. ;) I don't wanna buy just one since the shipping is almost the cost of some, I just feel like I had better use of "shipping money" if I order more. So maybe I wait until they have free shipping again.

Customs here let you go up to £18, which is less than $30. It was the 20% VAT added, plus a £8 handling fee. It put my off ordering I can tell you!

The free shipping happens every so often, maybe once or twice a year I think (might be wrong, but I'd have more flexis if it was more frequent...)

The Mega sunds like it would be very large indeed; I comfortably use an XL for my hair, which is almost classic length and iii thickness! That pearly design is available in other sizes that may be easier to use. If you ever contact them the staff are lovely and emailed me back quickly.

Yeah, here the limit is 200 NOK, which depending on exchange rates is around 22 GBP or 35 USD. You really can't buy a huge amount of things before you pass the limit. And then it's 25% VAT, which OK I suppose, but on top of that there's the 100 NOK fee, which is always way more than the actual taxes on my orders. Le sigh. But there's always the chance that the package will be overlooked in customs ;)

How on earth do you get the minis to work for half ups? All I can use them for is to pin a tiny bit of hair back. I use extra smalls for half ups. Smalls work best for ponytails, though I can use mediums for a looser pony. My hair is I think pretty average in thickness at between 3 1/4" to 3 1/2" in pony circumference and thinner at the top where I would gather for a half up.

I just wish I could use my mini skull flexi for more than that little pin back! :)

Fufu

I'm curious to see how mini can work for half ups too as extra small to me is already very small for half up, Perhaps Vorvolaka only gather her fringe back to do it as half up.

Me too, I totally fell in love with these things when I started reading this thread! My daughter tells me now that she told me about these things a couple years ago, but I sure don't remember. Bet if I'd known about Flexis at the beginning of 2009, I might not have chopped off all my hair...

March 4th, 2011, 06:25 AM
Hmm, I have used the x-small for half up and it worked well! It was mostly just gathering the remains of my fringe though, and a bit of my crown hair. But my hair is 3,75 in thickness, and it's not slippery.

I recently got two new flexi-8s too, and that was before the free shipping  annoying, but I didn't give in to the free shipping. I'm not made of money! :p I got an x-small and a small. I do mostly half ups really. I haven't tried squeezing my hair into the small for a pony yet, but it works great in half ups! I got it because it matches my gown for a formal I'm going to soon.

The x-small I got was another dragonfly, omg. But slightly different than the other one, and silver. Apparently dragonflies are the best. XD

Here's the small flexi-8 in my rag-curled hair, though:

smileycat--you can use a small for a ponytail? I've tried this and cannot for the life of me get my hair into it and mine is pretty similar to yours in circumference. I'm about 4' give or take. Even on a dirty hair day, I can't get the small to work. I ordered a large because I'm hoping to use it for full up dos. The small seems ok for half up dos, but now I'm wondering if I should get an XS and sell the small.

Well, I bought three large ones, and I am using them in my french twists. I rarely bun as I am horrible at it, but the one picture on here was a large. I also use a medium for the french twist when I want it really secure.

I labelled them, I thought it might be easier to tell what I was doing :)
