ErinM - thanks for posting pics of your daughters' hair! Those are so pretty, perfect for little princesses!!
I ordered flexi8's for my nieces and I was wondering if the xs will be a good size-- I got the other niece an s though because her hair is really thick. I think they will be alright for them.

Has anyone ever asked Flexi-8 if they would consider finding EU vendors? I sent an email last night and they already emailed me back to ask for suggested websites. I told them about Stone Bridge and Maiden Like, because they were the first ones to spring to mind.

Maybe if enough of us ask they will find a way to sell over here and we can avoid such customs delays and high shipping!

There are some on ebay at the moment. I got one the other day. A UK seller but calling itself Flexi8 Europe.

I have seen those, but it seems a pitifully small selection compared to the main site. It's great if one you like is on there but I rarely see more than one XL on there at a time! Imagine a proper seller with a wide selection. That's surely going to increase sales and buyer confidence. Also some people have the idea still that eBay is for second hand stuff. A serious company should have a better avenue to sell through even if it was via Amazon.

If you click on the pic for what appears to be just one XL, you'll see there are in fact several to choose from. What they appear to have done is make one listing for each size but with the option to buy up to six per listing. I chose from six XL.

Well how daft! I've looked at listings before but really half heartedly because I haven't been too fussed on the design shown. Six is still pretty poor compared to the masses available. I'll see how my order pans out from there. If customs means I'm no better off buying direct I'll add that to my eBay favourite sellers!

I've bought from that UK eBay seller and I agree the selection is limited in comparison to the US site. Apparently, she mostly sells at Markets so she doesn't put her entire stock on eBay. Taking delivery costs of $7 and HMRC/Royal Mail import & processing charges of £12 on all orders over £18 I found that I'm not saving much by buying from US, unless I buy a lot of clips in one go. UK seller took about a week to post me my Flexi; I placed an order for 2 mini clips from the US site and received them 1 day after I received those I ordered from the UK seller. She offered to list Flexis on ebay that might suit my taste, which was helpful, but it wasn't as satisfying as choosing from the easy-to-see and customise options on the US site.

There are pros and cons associated with buying from either of these two sources.

I don't remember exactly, but from my order confirmation emails etc. it looks like it took a bit more than two weeks last time. If I remember correctly, that order wasn't opened in customs either, even though it was fairly large.

Europeans: How long did it take for your Flexis to arrive? :)

My first order took 2 months to arrive because it got held up by Customs and they're dreadfully slow at releasing parcels. My second order took 10 days because I made sure it cost less than the amount that triggers an inspection by Customs.

In Norway, a single flexi is cheap enough that it doesn't need to go through customs at all.
When I ordered a Wii game for my boyfriend's birthday, it spent three weeks in customs...

I just received my XL flexi - this one (http://www.flexi8.com/0580.html). I like it, but I have some reservations. It's less shiny/blingy than I thought it might be, which for me is a good thing. It's very pretty but not too dressy, which I like.

But the bad news is that my hair keeps getting caught between all the little beads and breaking when I take the flexi out of my hair. So I have to be super careful about that. I don't usually like high maintenance hair toys, but I like the way this looks so I'll keep it and work with it. It won't be a everyday type toy, though, because of the bead issue. :(

Oh my, TrudieCat, that's beautiful!!! (I love dragonflies! :D) But that's odd that it keeps catching at your hair, when it's really not supposed to do that... I mean, I've only got one and I've only worn it a few times, but my hair is very grabby and I didn't have this problem. Maybe there's too much space between the beads?

I was wearing mine every day, and felt I was getting wear and breakage right in the area I had it positioned, the hair use to be smooth and now that one area feels rough.. So I feel the same way if the beads are rubbing and causeing damage .

Thanks, dfotw! I do really love the dragonfly. :crush:

My hair catching in the beads isn't a horrible problem or anything, but I will have to be more careful using my flexi than I've had to be with my sticks and forks. Maybe I'll need to try different types of updos when I use it, and that might make a difference. I have lots of layers so lots of short pieces sticking out of my updos every which way, so these get caught in the beads.

Heartwillfollow, I'm sorry that your flexi caused all that breakage - yikes. Bad news. :(

Mine have just been shipped, coming to the UK so I guess I'll need to wait a few weeks for them to arrive

Just too excited. I wasn't sure what size I'd need so I got two. This is the plan -

I got a medium to hold up my peacock twist:

http://www.flexi8.com/flex/images/items/0740.jpg

and a small for half up's and simple pony tails:

Mine came today! I'm afraid the xs will be too small for my niece. I got the other niece a small, she has thicker hair.. Oh well, we'll see. Half-ups then at least..
My XL is just the right size though. At least this style it holds securely.
Those are wooden beads.

Got mine today during my lunch break, perfect timing as I wouldn't be able to get them after work since the mailroom closes. They did say anything about my special request to change my beads and was a little concern but they arrived with beads changed at no extra cost. It looks so pretty. I'm wearing my XL Celtic Cross right now and works great with my sock buns. I haven't seen it yet, my hand mirror is at home. I wasn't really into the Flexi-8s but I think I like the large ones very nicely. These are my last hairtoys for a while, which is rather sad but it's nice to end in a nice note with the Flexi8s. Pictures soon.

I REALLY want to invest in at least one flexi 8, but i have super thin baby fine hair, and I'm worried that even the mini won't hold my pony tail!! (dealing with some massive hair loss :( ). My pony circumference is between 1.5"-2" depending on the day (if i washed that day or not)

Any suggestions? Should I just try it? Does anybody have a mini they want to get rid of that I could possibly try?

Joliebaby and dfotw - those wooden beaded flexis are really pretty and elegant! Hmm, I wasn't going to buy any more flexis but I might have to put one of the wooden ones on my wish list....

SlightlySoprano - I'm sorry about the shedding. :( I bought a mini thinking I could use it to pull some of my hair back at the side and was shocked by how teeny it really is. It held next to none of my hair. I returned it or I'd pass it along to you. But the minis are really, really small. I would think you might want the next size up, though I don't have any of those myself so I can't give you an idea of how much hair they'd hold.

Wish I could give you a little more guidance, but I'll have to leave that to the flexi experts here.

I have thick-ish, coarse hair (ponytail circumference is 4" to 5") and I recently bought two minis Flexi8s to replace mini-claw-clamps. I'm quite impressed with how much of my hair they hold. I mostly use them for doing side-half-ups and for holding my growing fringe/bangs layers up in a bump if I'm wearing a ponytail or an updo.

I can give you these pictures of how much hair they're holding right at this moment :)

Apologies for the poor quality of the pictures, I found it hard to photograph the back of my head with my mobile phone :o

I went off and found a measuring tape and the circumference of the each piece of hair that I'm holding up with the minis seems to be about 1.5 - 2". I think the mini flexis could actually hold a little more of my hair as I'm not using the clips at their loosest setting. I hope this helps.

SlightlySoprano, I had minis and found them difficult to work with for half-ups since they were so small. I have small hands too, so I would have thought I would be able to manage that somehow. I use an XS for half-ups and they hold my ponytails weep too since they are adjustable.

The company is wonderful about exchanges, from what i've read and experienced.

I *love* the minis sooo much! Granted, I use them for "bangs only" (if you can still call them bangs, they're below shoulder length now) to get that little poof on my head, or as a side-swept thing.

Too bad mine seems to be missing at the moment. I've wanted to use it forever but can't remember where it ended up.

dfotw, it's a braided lazy wrap bun, so it only holds onto the inside part. Lazy wraps are great for outgrown hair toys because they only have to hold onto a small part of the actual bun.

Postie has until tomorrow, then I won't necessarily be here to take the parcel. I shouldn't bother ordering things. It would be less stressful to just travel to the warehouses/workshops of all makers. Depending on customs charges it may be cheaper too...

One of the minis I bought had a burr on it when it was new - I simply took a nail file to it and filed it smooth, the metal is soft enough that it worked. The underside of the knot might be a bit inaccessible to a file, though. Contact the company, I've heard their customer service is excellent. So sorry your new toy disappointed you! :(

In that case (and I don't blame you for the postage costs) I'd try blobbing some clear nail varnish on the back to round it off.

My hair just found a rough spot on the back of my pin of the Celtic knot one I bought so I'll hopefully just get to file it off. In the meantime OWWW

Heidi_234

Igor, I use mine mainly for ponytails and halfups, since I had to ban elastics. I prefer hair sticks for buns, but Gibraltar bun works great with a flexi, and so does braided bun and center-held buns. It mainly depends of the size of the flexi, the huge ones can probably be just as good for almost any bun that holds with hair sticks.

julya

I can do a nautilus bun and I think it's called a bunny tail, where I make a cinnamon bun and pull the tail through for a ponytail. It makes the length more reasonable.

Very pretty! I ordered a small and it just might be too big for my hair. But I also ordered minis to use as a half up, it'll work for me. Couldn't pass up the skull for my teen. Also in my bag went a couple of extra smalls... but the small flexi was free!

:bluesmile :bluesmileThe blue code still works... order four get one free.. :bluesmile :bluesmile

I've been admiring and wanting a flexi for-ever, so I spent about two hours deciding on which ones I liked for me, and a couple of loved ones, with hopes that the code was still valid. It is.

The first time I saw a flexi was when I was in a bead shop in town. The lady who brought it in had just bought it at the Goodwill and was showing it to the shop owner. They were trying to figure it out, thought it was an antique! I stood silently by and kicked myself for not visiting the Goodwill earlier... and now here they are and I am getting my very own!!!

Here are my new toys! :)

The above one is a custom (added a third bead on each side for $2) perfect purple stone cluster in Large, masa_inn's pic shows the color better

The bottom one is a "Swirls and Curls" centerpiece with the white pearls as shown in "Life of Tree" in X-Large (it's not so blingy IRL, blame the lightning)

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/5009121166_8ebe590957_m.jpg (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4091/5009121166_8ebe590957_b.jpg)
(I see now that I should have taking the pic from above, the perspective makes the L look even more smaller than the XL than it actually is)

I sooo love them! :) I wanted one in L that was colorful because I mostly have all-silvers now in M and L. And I wanted an XL that was elegant, because the one I have, have dark blue metallic beads (which I love, too!) I think these two are complementing my collection perfectly. :) (I have posted pics of the others earlier in the thread)

I have a bit of trouble choosing which sizes to choose, because they didn't say anything about medium textured hair in the video on the site. I'm looking for one that I can do buns and peacocks with and one to make half ups with.

I would guess that with ii/iii hair, an extra small would be good for half ups (my small one slips down in half ups, my hair is iii). For buns, large or extra large. I use extra large, though I can just barely squeeze a size large into a nautilus bun.

Disclaimer: I'm mostly guessing here ;)

I also think XS would do for halfups. For a simple peacock you might try M. For a knot (nautilus bun, Karen Lynn's knot, lazy wrap bun, celtic knot etc) I think M would work too, with your length and layers (I looked at your pics for the summer, you might have grown quite a bit since then.) But for covering a bun I'm not sure if L or XL would be best. I think XL is too big for you, but the L is small beside it. I would suggest looking back over the thread and see if you can see someone with your bunsize and what clip they used. :) An L would probably work too for knots, it might just feel unnecessary big. Oh, I don't feel like I helped a lot...

I too am having sizing issues.. In the video, my hair sounded most like the commentator's - Coarse, Wavy, below shoulder. However... if we go by the chart, I have a diameter of almost 2" (Circumference 4")
I want it for buns, twists, etc. Mostly to get my hair out of the way for Aikido, since these seemed less likely to poke someone in the face than the hair fork I've been drooling over for ages, and cheaper than a Ficcare.
I have a Fakkare that measures 5" (about 4.5 functional) and it can't hold a twist or bun.
ETA: My avatar is over a year old, so you can't really judge by that.

Hrm, that's disappointing to hear :( I'm not too worried about them hurting me, I've yet to fall straight on the back of my head (it's dangerous), but it does need to be secure. I know hairsticks are never secure on me, so I'm not sure what my options are at this point.

I have used my new flexis for exercise - a braided nautilus bun with a flexi size XL actually withstood the jumping, running and bouncing around like nothing else has, and it was nice to have my braid out of the way. For yoga, it didn't work, because I messed up the bun when I lay on my back.

For MMA training of any sort, the cornrow braiding is popular, or even 2 French braids. Scroos work pretty well for staying in. Just not a Flexi or any barrette I have found.

Did you check if there are seams or sharp edges on your Flexi-8 that got caught in your hair? If you referred to earlier posts, I had a large Celtic Knot Flexi-8 which had a rough edge on it. Try emailing their customer service to ask what can be done about it. :D

Since mine was in an odd corner which cannot be filed down, they were nice enough to send me a new piece without requiring me to ship back the defective one since shipping back mine would not be economical.

They fit perfect, I use an xsmall for my ponytail and they dont pull on the hairs like a ponytail elastic, I am so happy :D it fits so snug, wont fall at all, and the small is for my tail ups right now. Once my layers grow out Ill need the small for the ponytail :D They are much better quality than I expected, I cant wait to order more, I may order some for the ladies in my family or friends for christmas!

I wont be of much help cause my hair is way shorter than yours, but I can tell you that the mini is very small. If you want to do a complete half-up rather than just use it to pull back bangs or one side of your hair (basically the kind of things that you could use bobby pins for), I would say that the mini is most likely to small.

So would you say a mini = 1 bobby pin amount of hair (but more secure, of course)

Maybe a little bit more (since the flexi can hold more thickness than your average bobby pin), but not much more than that. I could use it to pull back my grown out bangs which I would need to use two bobby pins to secure, but that's it. :)

LadyJennifer
October 11th, 2010, 03:26 PM
Yeah, mini would hold little more than bobby pin. An x-small would probably work well for half-ups for thinner hair. Small works well for me and my hair circ is 4.25

SlightlySoprano

Wow! I'm glad that I asked. I thought I would need an XS for my regular ponytail, when popular opinion is that I would need an XS for my half-up. I guess I'll give it a shot. Worst thing that can happen is it won't work and I'll have to trade for the appropriate size. Thanks guys!

I was not expecting that though I was hoping for some type of hair item. I'd heard someone find them at a convention before. I've seen them online, but have never seen any I really liked, but I LOVED so many in person. They also look SO SO SO MUCH BETTER in person. Seriously. They are much prettier in person. I might need to use a few extra pins to hold it, but as long as the surrounding hair doesn't fall forward over the clip then it's fine.

This small flexi is perfect for my ponytail, a little too small for holding any bun, a little too loose for half ups for me. But anyway, despite it slipped constantly I liked the way it looked. So maybe I will reinforce with ribbons to hold better. :)

Flexi-8s are my absolute favorite hair accessory! Pretty, elegant, perfect for all occasions, and extremely gentle on my hair. I only have one right now that I got from the local craft fair, but I'm totally going to invest in some more. I have the medium that I use for my daily folded or flipped braid. :) Located in my signature!

I wear my flexi-8s to work; I work in a nursing home and often the elderly ladies will find some excuse to get me to take down my hair so they can see it. "What is that thing in your hair?" "How do you put it up?" "Does it take a lot of time to do your hair?" "Can we see that thing?" LOL! The hair comes down, they all admire the hair length as they pass the flexi-8 around to satisfy their curiosity. Due to dementia they forget they've already asked about it and seen it; they ask the same questions again the next day :-)

They're neither very heavy nor very light. Useful, aren't I? :p
I have a size L Ficcare Maxima and several size XL flexis, and the flexis are considerably lighter than the Ficcare. Quite light for the size, or so I think at least, but in size XL they're not quite feather light either.

I LOVE flexis, but found them heavy for my lifestyle. Working with horses, I needed something more versitle/softer.

They don't seem to be sold in any sort of store or shop at this point. However, they do come around to large fairs and events - I emailed them last year to ask them to send me a list of where and when they were going to be for the year. Not sure if their list included anywhere in Canada, but it won't hurt to ask. :)

Darn. The thing with hair clips for me is there never seems to be enough space. I'd prefer being able to see it in person as opposed to pictures on the internet. Although their prices seem reasonable. At this rate, I think I'll just use Christmas money and order one from them, although I can't quite figure which size I'd be.

I'm also from Canada! Hi! I took a leap of faith and ordered from the flexi 8 site. I am so happy I did, it is my favourite hairtoy. I started with the small and now I need the medium for most updos, although I do get plenty of use from my smalls still! I have some photos in my albums, maybe they can help you decide on a size.;)

Igor, I haven't emailed them personally but I did read through this entire thread not too long ago and I know people have gotten XXLs custom made. I can't search the thread for XXL, ugh ... but I found this post (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showpost.php?p=911892&postcount=1034) randomly clicking back pages.

Ooh! Nice to know. Is that you in your avatar? Because if so I'm so totally jealous. I only get to ride about once a year now, but when I was younger my mom would send me to a horseback riding day camp in the summer. I went enough times that by the end I was doing one bar jumps and was totally over the moon with it. But once I started highschool, I worked in the summers instead.

I received a reply with a list of the styles available in XXL size (“Fw: Flexi-8: XXL Mega Flexi” *chuckles* Mega-Flexi? Good name :p )

The price is $24.00 and you can place an order on the website by choosing an XL fancy style. For example, style #1639, which will have the correct price. We will not send you style 1639, but you will tell us which style you do want.

To do this please follow these instructions:

1. Go to www.flexi8.com
2. Choose the correct size (XL) and style 1639 for correct pricing.
3. Step through the check out process.
4. Just before paying (after you click on payment type) you can scroll down the page and find a "Special Instructions" box you can type into.
5. Please make your request in this box. For example, "please replace style 1639 with the XXL version of XL #______ ", etc.

That's it! We will take care of the changes for you.
List compiled for your amusement
Festive poinsettia with garnet beads (http://www.flexi8.com/1630.html)
Filigree dragonfly with chunky etched beads (http://www.flexi8.com/0580.html)
Celtic Knot with etched antiqued rounds (http://www.flexi8.com/0315.html)
Native inspired filigree with jade heart beadwork (http://www.flexi8.com/1054.html)
Princess tiara completes this 'Freestyle' array of color (http://www.flexi8.com/1235.html)
Tree of Life centerpiece with lovely pearl accents (http://www.flexi8.com/1631.html)
Prominent dragonfly with etchings and antiqued accents (http://www.flexi8.com/0699.html)
Flower stone-set with simple danglie in jet black (http://www.flexi8.com/1637.html)
Roman style cross with stone-set in antique brass (http://www.flexi8.com/1048.html)

I’m considering ordering Native inspired filigree with jade heart beadwork (http://www.flexi8.com/1054.html) and Flower stone-set with simple danglie in jet black (http://www.flexi8.com/1637.html) in XXL but I honestly wonder if I’m going to need an XXXL to be able to fit my entire bun in one. After all, even with a densely compacted braided nautilus bun I can only fit the “inner” part of the bun in an XL and that still takes a lot of wiggling around (and some cursing  )

the weight is more equally divided then when I use the XXL

(Snip) ...and wrap the rest of the hair around the base,

That inspired me to try a braided nautilus bun with a rope braid accent wrapped around. Flexi used is the
Antique style center with jet black dangles in black nickel (http://www.flexi8.com/1042.html), it didn’t turn out as well as hoped though: The accent rope braid disappeared a lot under the Nautilus bun
I split the hair in 4 like this / I \ in the back and turned one of the inner parts into a rope braid
The attempt isn’t wasted though, I think it would work if I turned the base Nautilus into a rope braid and braided the accent

I want a Flexi I can use for my folded braid and for holding a crown braid, but I’m not sure what size I would need.

http://22757575.dk//ida/photo/images/Updo23.jpg

The XL is definitely too big for a folded braid. From the picture it looks like I’m only using about half the “8”. Measured, that is 2 ¼ of an inch of the span inside with the Flexi in the middle setting.
The small size has 3 ¼ inch pin, but the small I ordered for curly haired Dutch friend’s daughter was so tiny I could barely fit half a ponytail in. Of course since the size is measured by the pin, it’s not the real, useful length you get in the measurement.

Medium is 3 ¾ inch pin. Large is 4 ¼ inch pin. Since that’s only ½ inch in difference, maybe it doesn’t mean much which one I pick

What do you all think? Medium is only ½ inch away from “Only able to fit half a ponytail in” and large is ½ inch away from “Definitely too big”

I got mine in today, and the medium holds my folded braid snugly, so it might be better for you to go for the large.

Igor, according to the website, the difference between L and XL is one inch, not half an inch. I have both sizes, and I think the large is significantly smaller than the XL, so I think you'd be best off with a L.

lapushka
December 30th, 2010, 12:17 PM
I'd not skip a size, Igor. I'd go with the L.

Why not order both a M and a L? I'm sure the M when it's too small for this will come in handy for other updos. ;)

Your hair is much thicker than mine and I can use a medium for a ponytail (well, before my hair loss that is), so for your thicker hair and folding of the braid, a medium would be too small for you I think.

I have a question… Which ones of the designs have you been impressed with and found beautiful and which ones have you found less pretty?

Sea inspired dolphin with accents of deep sapphire (http://www.flexi8.com/1595.html) is cute with the little dolphin, but the blue beads look very cheap and plastic-y
Lovely circle stone-set in emerald green with matching bead (http://www.flexi8.com/1632.html) I bought it for the green to bring out the red tones, but the green beads are very non-dominant. The green beads looks a lot better than the blue ones though
Antique style centre with jet black dangles in black nickel (http://www.flexi8.com/1042.html) The black beads looks like they’re of a much higher quality than the other ones, unfortunately one of the danglies tends to get “stuck” a lot and freeze up sticking out in a weird angle
Intricate soaring butterfly with purple-iris metallic beads (http://www.flexi8.com/1214.html) I was very impressed with this one. The butterfly is detailed and the beads have a beautiful metallic shine than makes them look a lot more expensive than any of the other beads

Anyone own Native inspired filigree with jade heart beadwork (http://www.flexi8.com/1054.html) and Flower stone-set with simple danglie in jet black (http://www.flexi8.com/1637.html)?

Anyone own Native inspired filigree with jade heart beadwork (http://www.flexi8.com/1054.html) and Flower stone-set with simple danglie in jet black (http://www.flexi8.com/1637.html)?
I expect the black one to be a cross between the green one and the black one I already have, but how is the “jade” beads? Cheap-looking or pretty?I have the Native inspired filigree with jade beads (XL size). It's become one of my favourites. Not cheap-looking at all. The jade beads are veined with pale red - they do not look plasticky at all, if that is what you are afraid about.
Here's a picture from a few months ago:

Igor, I had an S and 2 Minis made with the jade heart beads.

Click twice to enlarge to full size for close up.
I had them combined with pink beads, but with only the jade beads I think it would look more classy than girly (yep mine are girly :))

Today my new flexis arrived, they're just for half-ups. They were a little tight, I think they are extra small, they say most women can use them for half-ups. They worked better on my mom (medium thickness). I didn't want to order larger because the xl I have was pretty big for me, I just wanted one of the biggest one, LOL. :D They still work but next time I'll get bigger.

Sorry I don't have a better camera, and that my hair was half dry, half damp. :D This one is pretty like I thought it would be:

This one is prettier than I thought. :D I didn't think I'd like the transparent ones, but they're pretty!

http://img43.imageshack.us/img43/2779/imag1691w.jpg

Black beads, my favorite. Also good to hold bangs (they all could).

The red one had almost black beads, didn't like it. :/

Extra large holding my HALF cinnabun, LOL. (I already had this one, but Igor asked about it, thought I'd post a pic too)

I am definitely getting the jade one... And the black one with the danglie… And now the dragon fly too!

One more dumb question: Does anyone know if I can order Flexies in a leftie-version? I really, really like the purple butterfly one too and want to get two in a large to hold a folded braid and crown braids, but I think that would look a lot better if one was a leftie and one a rightie…

The bottom one is an extra small and the top a small. And for the record my hair isn't green, thats the lighting in my office :D

I just ordered...5 new flexis :o

I couldnt help it! But I am so torn on what size to get, the extra small fits my whole pony tail very tightly so it wont slide, but my hair is growing so fast in another 6 months the extra small wont be as comfy, so I got 2 more xsmalls and 3 smalls :) For the future.

I got my first ever flexi-8s I love them all except for the sizes. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j247/meowgoddess/100_2173.jpg
I need some opinions. The large does not fit at all, even if I do a little 1/2 up bun, it sits on top. I can make the XL work, but they are sitting in the middle and don't cover all my hair. About an inch & a half on each side is left out, but I don't think it necessarily looks bad that way. I just ordered:
Filigree dragonfly with chunky etched beads (http://www.flexi8.com/0580.html) in XXL. Thank you for the picture, Speckla. The image on the website doesn’t give it any justice compared to your action-shot
Native inspired filigree with jade heart beadwork (http://www.flexi8.com/1054.html) in XXL. Thank you Sundial, Isa-Belle and Eresh for convincing me
Roman style cross with stone-set in antique brass (http://www.flexi8.com/1048.html) in XXL. In the last second I decided on this one instead of Flower stone-set with simple danglie in jet black (http://www.flexi8.com/1637.html)
Intricate soaring butterfly with purple-iris metallic beads (http://www.flexi8.com/1214.html) in L and two of them. I asked for them to reverse one of them to a left-handed version. Not sure if they will make that or not, but it’s not super important

Thank you for the discount code, Yosha! It came to 85 USD for all 5 and shipping

I like both the XL and the XXL. From what I understand, there are buns that you can make where you don't have to use the Flexi across all your hair? Maybe keep 1 or 2 XL sizes for those types of buns, and the XXL for the rest?

I think this is a good answer.

Really, I would go for function instead of what looks best  If you’re “in the middle” of two sizes, do you plan on growing longer? In that case I would go for the larger size

I did notice though that going down a size makes the Flexi a lot less… flexible  A size larger makes it hold more than you would think from just scaling it up

As for styles, the nautilus bun works well with securing the middle only and having an outer coil around the Flexi. I’m pretty sure that would work too with simply taking a section out of your hair, putting it up like usual and then braiding the section for an accent around the bun

I don't know, but I've thought of doing that, since I usually wear updos with Flexis on both sides. All mine so far are symmetrical enough that it doesn't matter which is on which side.

Thanks for your responses. The XXL barely fits over all my hair & I do plan to grow longer, plus I am growing out bangs which will make my hair thicker, so I was leaning towards the XXL. But I like the way the XL looks in the middle of some braided buns like you posted previously, so I will keep a couple of those. You ordered a couple of the same XXL as me. The Roman cross almost blends into my hair color so I bet it will look amazing in your lighter hair and the jade one is gorgeous in person.

I am going to get a real camera one of these days (har har)

However, peacock twist with my custom Flexi. Small stick, medium 8 part. The small is too small, so it pops open. But the medium is too big yet. This baby works perfect!

Thanks for the suggestions! I will look into these types of buns and see if any of them work. :)

So I can't get any sort of bun that wraps around my hand to work yet. I think my hair is too thick. But I was able to use a large Flexi-8 to do a pseudo-french twist (I say pseudo because I have a lot of hair at the top that I couldn't really fit into the twist):

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=2400&pictureid=92852

I don't have pics, but a medium is actually fitting my ponytails better now than they used to. I can wear a small if I want a tighter ponytail, and a medium if I want one a bit looser.

WOo hoo, I love flexi 8. I own 1 in black before, plain and no crystals and beads. The pin is measured at 8.50cm and I use for both half pony tail and pony tail .

I just ordered 2 small flexis 8 to be used for half pony tail. Shall try if it works for full pony tail since it's 0.50cm smaller than my own black flexi 8.

I've asked for left-hand-versions and sometimes gotten it, sometimes not. I think it depends on who assists your order. :P It does help a great deal though, for me at least. Especially when doing knots of any kinds, since I'm used to doing the knots in a way that you want to insert the stick/flexi-8 from the left. But I'm a very strongly left-handed, there is very few precision-tasks I can manage with the right. Maybe if you write that they can take extra charge to change it? It is a bit of more work for them, after all.

I am very impressed and quite happy with my order. I got two mediums, which will work for most things I can currently do with my hair. I'm going to order a small for half-ups and a large for, well, larger updo's but I'll wait until my hair is a bit longer. Thanks for cluing me into such a great hairtoy! I don't think a medium would suffice for a full bun. A small covers only the half of my bun, so a medium wouldn't do it for me. By looking at your pictures, you may have thicker hair than me; so I suggest going one size up.
Of course I've never used a medium or large on my hair, my argument is hypothetical only :D

Hi bunzfan! I find that a medium works very well for my updos. I have fine hair, but lots of it, like you. I ordered two flexis in size large and had to return them, they were way too big and just fell out. Check my albums for pics if you like. ;)

Do you know your ponytail circumference? Mine is 4 inches and I can just barely wear a small for a tight ponytail. I can also do a medium if I want a looser ponytail.

Its 4.25". How well do those sizes work for you for half ups?

For half-ups, I actually use either an XS or a S, depending on the size of the half up that I want.

Based on your ponytail circumference, I would say you could probably go with a S and a M. If you really want one for very small half ups, you could maybe add on an XS for that.

Lianna
January 19th, 2011, 08:03 AM
My ponytail is also 4 inches (without thick bangs and face framing layers), I can use XS for half-ups but it's really tight, and I can only take "2 small pieces" of hair to go in there. I recommend small.

Side note, you two put iii as thickness, wasn't iii only for above or equal 5 inches?

ETA: Sorry!! I just learned it is 4 inches. I think in cm. =/

Naphthylamine, I'm not very good at sizing, but I think extra large would be good for your up-dos, since your hair is long and can make a big bun. I think the extra small would be good for half-ups, since you have medium thickness.

Okay, it was impossible to get a good picture of them in the artificial light, but here goes

Top left: Roman style cross with stone-set in antique brass (http://www.flexi8.com/1048.html) in XXL. Very impressed by this one! Even hubby with his Y-chromosome could see it was awesome and remarked “It looks really antique!” So happy I went with this one.
Top right: Filigree dragonfly with chunky etched beads (http://www.flexi8.com/0580.html) in XXL. This will one will make a great contrast to my golden tones
Middle left: Native inspired filigree with jade heart beadwork (http://www.flexi8.com/1054.html) in XXL. Very pretty too. You guys were right about the beads
Middle right: Lovely circle stone-set in emerald green with matching bead (http://www.flexi8.com/1632.html) in XL for comparison. The XXLs are making the XL look wimpy!
Bottom row: Intricate soaring butterfly with purple-iris metallic beads (http://www.flexi8.com/1214.html) in L. They made one of them a left-handed version! Hooray! :cheese: The picture does absolutely no justice to the lovely details and the beads with their deep purple colour with the metallic shine.

Maddy and Igor, those are GORGEOUS!! :inlove: :crush:

And they're going MLM???? I am SO gonna get more info on that - if I go back to flying, I'm sure flight attendants all over the place would LOVE to have these things! (I know I sure love 'em!) That might be a way for me to augment my income so I can make as much flying as I do sitting on my butt in a law office - fingers crossed!!

Thanks for your recommendations, kschr2004 and Lianna! I just bought two flexis - one S (http://www.flexi8.com/0962.html) and one M (http://www.flexi8.com/0983.html)! And happily, the shipping was not $7 for international, but $4!
:cheese:
And now for the hard part, waiting.

Congratulations! I am sure you will love them. :)

My first test of the style I bought the two Intricate soaring butterfly with purple-iris metallic beads (http://www.flexi8.com/1214.html) in large for:
Folded up Dutch braid
Look how perfect it looks with one right-handed and one left-handed above each other?
I’m so very pleased with the result!

Naphthylamine, I'm not very good at sizing, but I think extra large would be good for your up-dos, since your hair is long and can make a big bun. I think the extra small would be good for half-ups, since you have medium thickness.

Thank you very much Lianna, I wasn't sure if my thickness or length was enough for an XL :)

And Maddy, the tree of life looks sooo beautiful in your blonde hair, tempting me to get the exact same design for the XL flexi I'm planning to get :D

Where can I get this?! :D
Go to www.lillarose.biz and click on "Go Shopping", which is in the upper right of the page, and you'll find it. I've signed up, and I may have some customers soon; I was showing the Flexis and the catalog to someone I know and she knows some people who may be interested.

Sad Panda... The mega is only on Lilarose, which isn't so bad, but the only two designs are in brass and gold tones. I am a silver girl. Man, deja vu... did I post this before?
