Lunasea, it looks like the centrepiece of Starlight (January 2017 FOTM and a while later there was also a temporary purple version, I'm 80% sure I haven't imagined the purple one). If you research that (I know a few people bought it and showed it here and on their outside blogs) you should find out :) I'd normally do that, but I'm crazy busy now, so forgive me for giving you just the direction, not the answer itself :)

Laura1986, it's a large but feels a little tight. I think I will stick with extra larges for clips that I intend to remove the pin.

I am thrilled to see pinless flexis. Between the sticks offered through Lilla rose and the endless options through Etsy the pinless options are so much more versatile.

The Black Friday sale is how I got the two that I have last year! It was a good sale, I think. They had several different styles for 40-50% off. I hate paying full price for anything so it was perfect for me. Plus I got my mom a tiny one to clip back her bangs. :)
This year I really can't since I need to squeeze out every dime for Christmas. I'll have to wait until after and hopefully have some Christmas money to spend. :)

I've been meaning to try an XL in my go-to buns, to see if it's worth upsizing some of my clips. Currently trying in a double-wrapped LWB; it feels stable but we'll see how it lasts for the afternoon/evening. (Most of the ones I have my eye on are just the usual offerings except cheaper, so if I miss out this time it's not the end of the world :lol: )

I grabbed three - at less than $20 a piece it was hard not to resist!

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the pricing on the new stickless ones. The purple Valerie starts at $15.30 for XS >> $29.70 for XXL without the stick AND with 10% off, and that bumps up to $27 >> $42.30 with the stick. The Eliana (pearl) one differs with the (simpler) stick price, so can be a bit less (you don't have to select the stick they suggest, either, but wow, it adds up!).

Is anyone getting the forks, um, Upins: Orbit, Dawn, Vines, that remind me of Senza Limiti? Even some of the new sticks remind me of SL's, and I'm curious to see how they compare.

Anyway, after mucking around with my current flexis, I realised I need some XXLs (megas) to hold my fave Celtic Knot bun. XLs can hold them, just, and only if I squeeze very compacted, slippery-day hair or stretch out my bun a bit, but then the clipped bun drags downwards and pulls on my scalp (the stick hangs away from my head...), and the (dangling) clip feels too weighty. But my only XXL does the job nicely with no pull (as it has enough room to grab scalp hair instead of just the bun) and feels near-weightless and comfy, soooooooo this happened...

And this time LR selected a brass swerve, instead of the black nickel that's coming with my previous order. Of course, if I had've figured all this out before my first order, I could've saved another 10% (as advertised for orders over $150) BUT I would only be getting the one bonus offer of swerve and rosewater, so :shrug: :cool:. And both orders come with free shipping (over the $75 threshold), so that's also a win.

And why did I even go back to the site, and then muck around with my buns at all after I'd ordered? YOU GUYS!!! Gah. It started with Milady's picks, and went downhill from there..! :p Nice choices, full of enablement. It'll be great to see how everyone gets on with their goodies! :popcorn:

Lol sorry Crystawni :p I thought the same about the forks!!! I has the vines fork, all dark, during all day yesterday. But I really needed not to buy more, so I just picked the owl. Oh well, those will stay there for a while, I'll can got it in the future (it was only reduced 20% after all)... oh well, there are more days to the sale, who knows :lol: And between we both we have all the 3 color joy (emerald, sapphire and crimson), I wanted the crimson so badly but after spying some action shots I thought that emerald would go better with my hair.

Ylva I have the XS for half-ups as well.
S might be my ponytail size, but it fits quite snug already if I just try it for sizing, and not all my hair makes it to the same spot for a ponytail yet..
So maybe I'm in between sizes, since the M seems quite a bit bigger from what I see in the pictures.. I only have a XS and S here, so at one point I just might "need" to get myself an M..

So I went a little crazy on Black Friday. Missed a couple I otherwise would have gotten and spent way too much, but it was worth it! I was a little late on the sale seeing as i work retail so was busy Friday morning, didn't get to build my order until late afternoon. I even had my mother give me a donation to spend on hair toys. :cheer: She was going to buy some during the upcoming sale for me so instead of having to make sure we were not ordering the same things she just gave me a donation. My shipment just arrived today. 13 new medium flexis and 13 hair sticks, also ran into a rep a couple weeks ago at a craft fair and bought 5 medium flexis. So here are some group shots.

As you can see they accidentally sent me three Emerald Joys and only one Crimson Joy instead of two Emerald Joys and two Crimson Joys.

Overall I am incredibly pleased with my haul and very broke now. :P Before I only had two flexis that I could wear year round and a hand full of fall and Halloween ones. Also glad to have some 'real' hair sticks besides the couple modded chopsticks I made. I have to go buy a new picture frame so I can hang up all my new pretties!!!

Regular hairsticks, mini ovals, and hairsticks that maintain thickness through the length (LI, GVW, and Yevheniia all tend to do this) work well with standard size. I tend to size up (or use leather, which is pretty much a size off anyway) with twists, ovals, and hairsticks that widen substantially through the length (WEII,ONN, WWC).

I got one too and if I use it like I normally do, to hold up my bun....my hair gets knotted/snagged on the cloud really easy.
When I hold up my bun with amish pins and only use this flexi as a decoration (so no pressure and little hair in it) I can take it out without damage.
Too bad because I really love this design.

Ha! Yes it’s definitely a commitment. Especially if you’re removing the sticks in such a way that they can’t be put back on later if you don’t like the result (which is what I do haha. I’m not talented enough to dismantle the entire thing, so my sticks meet violent ends :p).

No, I have not worn the rain cloud one for any length of time. I have worn the emerald joy and the poinsettia to work. And I wore the angel wings today while I was running out and about. I did just put the rain cloud in my hair and shook my head about, I didn't have a problem removing it. The real test will be when I bring it to work with me. I tend to make my buns pretty tight to make sure I don't have to readjust a bunch of times because my hands get absolutely filthy at work and don't want what is on my hands to get into my hair. So sometimes need to make an emergency run to the bathroom to fix my hair. :couch:

I have the opposite problem with my nautilus buns, the flexi rides up. But I am short and don't set my buns up high on my head, so it works. Also, it's the only bun I know how to do :rollin: I really need to get around to practicing on different buns.

So I just outgrew my mediums for buns, a bit ago and got my first large but now am on a flexi timeout. I can't be spending all this money just to outgrow them. So for now I am just going to buy xs/s for half ups and wait till I reach my goal length to really buy bigger ones

The first of my orders arrived today, and all is good (phew!). And that swerve? Like Milady, I'm pleasantly surprised. It's really, really, really good. I think I may even use it as my sleep fork (replacing a Quattro 4 prong button fork) as it has great hold and more of a headcurve that works well for my slipmonster. Less is more? Great design in any case. I find it very hard to find anything that's light, unobtrusive and holds my hair at night without slipping out (restless sleeper), so that's saying something.

I love the white-silveriness of the Starla FOTMs, too. They're the same as the Winter Wonders (larger and whiter of the snowflake designs), which suits me and my hair just fine. :p

I got in early, too, even though I wasn't sure if I'd dabble with the sale this year, as most of the FOTMs didn't grab me at all. So, for me, it's two of the newer leathers, some XLs of medium clips I already have, and the December FOTM in medium and XL.

Thanks, Stray and Milady! The rosewater is rather nice and light (my face got a misting yesterday for a moisture-boost), but I'm yet to try it on my hair.

shaluwm_agape, I've found the leathers/pleathers to be pretty good, long-lasting quality that can stand up to my brutal tropical/humid climate very well. I can't tell any difference between the ones I've worn a few years (first ones bought 2 years ago) compared to the new ones.

It's another day, so another delivery, and again, all is good! (I get nervy when there are so many orders for them to process in a short time as I've had messups happen previously, which are a pain when it comes to international fussing.) This one has the rose gold swerve (not brass per the order), which will play hide and seek on me like the black nickel one. Oh, and I tried the other swerve as a sleep fork last night, but it ended up on the slip and slide (beside me in bed, hair on the loose), so unfortunately doesn't have the sticky-staying power of my Quattros. They will be handy all-rounders, though (bag forks ftw, Milady!).

Anyway, after mucking around with my current flexis, I realised I need some XXLs (megas) to hold my fave Celtic Knot bun. XLs can hold them, just, and only if I squeeze very compacted, slippery-day hair or stretch out my bun a bit, but then the clipped bun drags downwards and pulls on my scalp (the stick hangs away from my head...), and the (dangling) clip feels too weighty. But my only XXL does the job nicely with no pull (as it has enough room to grab scalp hair instead of just the bun) and feels near-weightless and comfy, soooooooo this happened...

Question about sizes?
My hair is 30 inches and I am growing it out longer (at least to hip/tb but am planning on growing it as long as I can just for fun before cutting it back to hip/tb). So I am thinking I will be using the bigger clips as my hair continues to grow over the next 3 years or so.
My ponytail is about 3-3.5 inches.
The Large Flexi was very, very tight when doing a center hold for a Lazy Wrap bun -- so I am assuming I will need the XL.
Would the XXL (Mega) be too large for my hair in a cinnabun style or for doing a total hold across a Lazy Wrap? (anyone out there with my hair type needing an XXL before hip?)
Or should I just go ahead and get an XXL since I am growing out my hair and will need it eventually?

I love how fast the Flexi Clips can make a secure updo and I am kicking myself for getting rid of them all when I chopped my hair back to chin (after hip).

I am trying to restart my collection and my first purchase found that I bought them too small. The L was too tight for the center of my LWB and I am going to be exchanging it (and two M that I purchased) for XL. My question is: should I get an XXL also? Or just stick with the XL?

We seem to have similar hair types (with yours bing about 10 inches longer than mine -- which will be my length a year from now). I am also wondering if you find you use Mediums or Larges often? Or just stick with the XL/XXL sizes for most days? I see you use a S for your ponytails (and I think that is my size as well).

I am wondering if most people continue to use all of their sizes once their hair reaches a certain length -- or if they find they just stick with XS/S (for half ups, pony tails) -- and then stop using M/L and jump right to the XL/XXL sizes? I'd hate to exchange my M's and then find later that I could have used them....for a drop bun or something?

Out of curiosity, do any of you find that the stick-less Flexi's are larger than the ones with the sticks attacked? I had ordered 2 of them (the metal Juliet and the braided leather Nina) in M and they were the same size as the L Isabelle. I had planned on exchanging them all for XL, but since they are larger I am wondering if I should only move up to a L in them? :?

I love how fast the Flexi Clips can make a secure updo and I am kicking myself for getting rid of them all when I chopped my hair back to chin (after hip).

I am trying to restart my collection and my first purchase found that I bought them too small. The L was too tight for the center of my LWB and I am going to be exchanging it (and two M that I purchased) for XL. My question is: should I get an XXL also? Or just stick with the XL?

We seem to have similar hair types (with yours bing about 10 inches longer than mine -- which will be my length a year from now). I am also wondering if you find you use Mediums or Larges often? Or just stick with the XL/XXL sizes for most days? I see you use a S for your ponytails (and I think that is my size as well).

I am wondering if most people continue to use all of their sizes once their hair reaches a certain length -- or if they find they just stick with XS/S (for half ups, pony tails) -- and then stop using M/L and jump right to the XL/XXL sizes? I'd hate to exchange my M's and then find later that I could have used them....for a drop bun or something?

I've documented all of the sizes since I started buying these in 2014, which has been since my hair has grown down and thickened, so you'll find pics and thoughts all through this thread as well as in albums on my profile. I actually use them in different styles, but with my current ponytail circ. @ 4.5", my usuals when it comes to the metal flexis are an XXS for wispy halfups, hair out of face clipping or as an accent clip, XS for other halfups or braid ties, S for higher-up braid ties (where the braid has more tail), halfups or bun edge clipping, medium for tails up/rolls, etc. where the tail of the hair isn't contained, medium for ponytails (used to be small when I was below 4"), L for bun edge clipping, divided buns, and sometimes as a ponytail holder when my hair is fluffy/grabby after washing, XL for the usual buns like Gibraltars and LWBs (they're a full-on squeeze now, though, with hair coils spilling over the clip), and XXL for Celtic Knots (perfect) and Cinnabuns (squeeze).

I don't always use the clips through the bun, either. Mediums clipping the edge of cinnabuns:

I have my most recent action shots a few days ago for more reference. BUT the leathers ARE different in size, and that depends on the style of those, too. It's here that I go for the small size for my leather 8s (they're around the same size, or take the same volume of hair as a medium metal flexi), and medium for the braided style when it comes to ponytails and tails up. I'd say if you're going for the leathers, pick the size smaller than what you'd use if it were metal.

Saying that, I can wear a large Nina as a ponytail holder (the stickless flexis are a flexible size as the thickness of the stick you use factors into it):

BUT head size also factors in, as a larger flexi may fit with a thicker stick, but could overwhelm a smaller head (as if you're wearing glasses on the back of your head).

For you, and as you've mentioned, I'd stick to XL for what you need. The XXLs have a very weighty stick that can negate the hold of the 8 as it drags unless you have enough hair to secure it (at which time it becomes weightless).

I find that my hair gets slipperier in the days after washing, and compacts more, so yes. Washday is boof day for me, which is also grabbier (so I need the bigger sizes if I'm putting my hair up that day). :p But I've found I'm kinda the opposite of a lot of people here when it comes to the slipscale (humid climate, low porous, virgin hair), so :shrug:

Agree. I have two flexis I can't use for this very reason, thought I was sizing up from my leather ones and turned out the metal Large was exactly the same size as the leather Medium :(

On the discussion of leathers, I have some braided leathers. They are physically a size bigger, but because they are thicker and stiffer, with a tick I feel like they hold the same amount of hair as the metal ones of the same listed size. So while my braided leather is a size L, and looks as big as my metal XL's, it fits my hair like a metal L.

I just want to pop in with a heads up for anyone considering pairing a clear stick with a modded flexi: be careful when inserting your stick. I had a mishap with my LadyIdun icicle while inserting it into a modded flexi; it slipped and the flexi scratched the icicle. I've had this icicle for over 4 years and have taken extra measures to insure it stayed in pristine condition, which it had until my careless mistake.

Ylva I find it really difficult to do smooth, neat buns - the closest I come to that is a Spock bun, but the neatness lasts for all of about a minute, then hairs are poking out everywhere :shrug: but it's near impossible with flexis, for some reason; I think maybe because I need things tighter to accommodate the slim stick, and wrapping tightly is a recipe for instant mess :grin: Anyway, in short, I am in awe of your gorgeous LWBs :thud:

I meant no offence to mice with my grey mouse vs. pink unicorn comparison. It was more about the qualities of mice - how small they are in comparison to many and how, thanks to their colouring, they blend in with most natural environment (which I definitely do with snow, not having a tan and all...). They have their own strengths, for example like I mentioned above, they can live inside my walls which many others can't do! And they are free to do so. :)

It's very encouraging to hear that even a longhair guru like yourself sometimes struggles with smoothness and flyaways! I think, I am better off trying to learn more hairstyles than worrying about my buns looking poofed up. I'll still probably apologise for my messy buns and stuff, but you guys gave me some hope that the situation might not be as bad as I think it is.

I thought mice were adorbs and loved pictures of pet mice and rats and things until we had a really bad infestation in our house. I mean mousepoop all over the kitchen. Everything. They were running away from the construction next door on an abandoned apartment and there were many of them. It was really bad. I got kind of traumatized and now I can't think they're so cute anymore. To be fair we had a similar situation with stray cats finding ways in, so it's not just mice that I am less than thrilled about nowadays.

But I remember loving finding footprints of small creatures in the snow. Bird prints, rabbit prints, squirrel prints... I think I just lose my love of things that have crossed boundaries with me.

European flexi wearers - do you order from any consultants? All mine from the LR website come from the USA but I've read something about some coming from Germany, I think? If that were so, I'd have more options without incurring customs charges.

The Germany thing AFAIK is the return address for us folk in Europe so we don't pay a hell of a lot of money TO return flexis.

I have a consultant, but I don't get any cheaper options to buy since the clips I order from the site DO have to come from the USA. Only those that are already here in Europe might be cheaper, but you will not be able to get them on the LR site but have to buy them straight from the seller, many of them are on facebook. Also take into account when you do that the $4 shipping fee might not apply.

The only real advantage that you have when you have a consultant is that that person might be able to track down flexis that are no longer available on the site, AND you may be able to obtain Flexis that never appear on the site but get sold only to consultants. Also in that case: $4 shipping will likely not apply, it'll be more like $12 when they come in from a consultant in the US.

Thanks for the clear explanation eadwine :) I think it was the return address that I'd seen mentioned - and now I think of it, I seem to recall it saying on the website only US residents could be consultants, so they would be coming from the US anyway *and* with more expensive postage. Ah well, secondhand sites it may have to be!

For some flexis the extra postage is worth it :)
