So on the topic of sizing, I organized my collection by size. Thought it made for an interesting comparison.

Smalls. I only have one type of small flexi, and the sizing is very consistent between them:

Mediums. Wow, there was some variation. I lined them up from smallest to largest. In general, the ones with sticks are smaller than ones without, but there was a pretty wide variety.

Larges. The one with a stick was much smaller than the ones without. Held down for accurate size comparison.

Unfortunately, I think the sizing of the pictures is different(sorry the middle picture looks huge due to cropping)... I had to take a few pictures to get them all in. However, I did line up all my flexis from smallest to largest. The cross-comparison was fascinating.

Yeah the braided ones are at least one size up, the leather ones even more. You cannot compare those to the regular metal-with-stick ones. They're just goofballs imho compared to the rest. Buy a medium of those, you are NOT getting a medium. I sent my leather one back when they just came out and didn't get any understanding when I said it was too large. "It was a medium", ya right my butt that was a medium. Other arguments were "You can wear it with a stick and it'll fit you". Right.. I can headbang with the normal mediums, the leather one was so loose I couldn't even move.

I have two braided ones here, one black one red, I am thinking of getting me a size smaller in those, we'll see if they are still there come black Friday or something.

The others.. yeah there is a minor difference, depending on the beads and such as to what fits on the rough size of the loop. Also.. you can flatten loops when they are too small, or make them rounder when they are too large. All my mediums fit without a hassle, I guess I got the perfect size for my hair then :)

Isn’t the sizing thing funny? I started accidentally (bought a mixed size lot off eBay) and then continued on with it. Different sizes are handy!

In general, I like having different size flexis. But I wish the LR website would either display the exact lengths of each flexi rather than simply a size, or would standardize their sizes. I think either would be an effective solution.

I've noticed the same thing when I wanted to buy an XL recently.
From what I've observed, if a size is sold out, it's most often XXS, XS or S, and XLs are the next in line. It doesn't happen often, but sales do draw us to the shop and some XLs disappear... There was a 15% sale recently, probably that's where all the XLs went ;)

P.S. CopperButtefrly, did you know that there is a Flexi that resembles your avatar? It's called Vanessa :)

I think I know the flexi you're talking about. I think it's all silver. I almost bought it, but decided I wanted colored beads more. :) It will likely become part of my collection eventually. :D

Me too! There's nothing better than repurposing something that wasn't quite working. But in my case, I tripped into a lilla rosy vortex that sucked my $$ from me and promises to deliver some goodies in return:

The Ladybug and Olympia (aka Elegant Ornate) have been on my radar for a few years thanks to enableation on here (eadwine with the bugster) and WEO (Lirona with Elegant Ornate x 2), and Athena was an um-ah'er that I've caved on fairly recently (I'm trying HARD to ignore the tail curling the wrongish way) as seahorses are a fave of mine since childhood. The Celtic Knot with leather and (bonus) Nina are more recent wants, and rounding out the stash is the (bonus) navy stick to go with my navy leather 8 because that 8 hasn't got a good-match shorty in my hoard for when I wear it as a ponytail holder.

I wasn't going to touch this meagre sale as it doesn't nearly compare to the Black Friday one, but figured I'm better off getting stuff now before the new July Australian Govt. taxes eat into the saving anyway. So, um... yay?

I think it's a picture of a computer screen, hence the blurriness. In a few days we'll probably see the original picture as one of the official ones in the store :D

Their website says "Since 2008". Maybe there was another company making similar products but they didn't patent them, but Lilla Rose did? Or maybe it's one of those clips that are made of two combs with beads on elastic threads in between, and the elastic center looks like a figure 8?

I'd swear it's a Flexi too, only it seems improbable.

I ordered two clips at the very beginning of June. They've been in Poland since June 10. And I haven't seen them since. It's been almost a month. Last time the domestic part of the delivery took 3 weeks. Now it's four and I'm worried that the package was lost. Tracking stops the moment the package leaves customs/the capital, so I can't ask the post office to track it.

The only consolation is that I know other Polish buyers have had the same problem right now. If there are more of us, maybe my package wasn't lost. Unless the postal service lost all of our packages...
In the past we'd get Flexis in a week, then two, then three... and now I don't know what the new standard is. Over four weeks, apparently. Within that, the packaging and shipping inside and from US and landing in Europe takes a week at most, usually less. Customs: up to a week, no more. The rest is... I don't even know what Polish postal service is doing.

That effects the size needed. I like the leather ones quite a bit because they are light weight and more grippy than the beaded ones. The tusk is from grahtoestudios (https://www.etsy.com/shop/grahtoestudio?ref=pr2018_faveshops) but they have been closed for quite a while due to Stacy having some very serious health issues. Nope, 3.14 inches sounds like a normal measurement for ii thickness hair.

So my circumference likes to vary between 3.5 inches, and 3 inches. I can use a large for buns. An XL would probably work as well. A medium could work but it would have to be used to pin only part of my bun, and I'm too inexperienced with buns to figure out something that complicated xD

I have fluffy almost-waist-length hair, and I can squeeze it into an L, but it works much better with an XL. You don't have an extraordinarily small bun, it sounds like, so my personal suggestion would be to go for the XL. It gives you a bit of room to grow without having a flexi that's just too big to be functional. I think if you get an L, and you want it specifically for buns, you're going to be disappointed with the amount of variety you have. But that's just personal preference.

I use both sizes for buns, and for folded braids, and both have served well for various purposes. If you're really torn...get both and try them out. :) I have a variety of sizes and the only one I don't use is the jumbo, because it's just too unwieldy. But I think the XL is going to be your best bet if you're just buying one.

I’ve now got certain flexis in multiple sizes because I didn’t get the correct size for the stick I’d planned to pair it with. There are still some I own that feel a smidge too big or too small, but I’m waiting for a big sale before I restock.

I’ve found if a flexi is too small that I can still usually use it in a center held bun as Long as I use it with a stick that’s long enough to catch the bun. If it’s too big I use a fat stick or a tusk.

I'd suggest getting one of each and seeing what works for you. I think the additional expense is worth it, to have a better idea of what you like, and you could probably use both in different styles, so it wouldn't go to waste. :) And it would be better than getting one, finding it doesn't work for you, and having to exchange it (which I hear is more complicated outside the US).

I haven't tried any leather Flexis, so I don't have any insight on the sizing of those. :shrug:

You're from Finland.. make sure when you order to use paypal, that way return fees get reimbursed. We Europeans have to do exchanges and returns through Germany. Still costs us more than the shipping from the US to here, but yeah.. paypal to cover. If you don't have that set up yet in your paypal, do that first, it's free, but you do have to check some boxes I think.

If you're a size too small, it's not such a big deal. You can squeeze the hair more or just make a bun out of let's say 80% of your hair and wrap the rest around the bun. If you're a size too big, there's not much you can do unless you choose to wear a paranda braid and bun that. In other words, if you're halfway in-between sizes, 50% down (too small) will still work. But 50% up (too big) while it's still a small difference, might give you a clip that's impossible to wear, or possible only as a buncage and with a few very compact, dense, sticking out (as opposed to flat, spread-out) buns, because otherwise the buns are too loose.
Long story short: a clip that's too small will work, though it might be less comfortable to use. One that's too big will be frustratingly impossible to use.
I remember when a few people here used to buy clips a size too big, to have something to grow into. And it would often turn out that it either took years to graduate a size up or, even with their goal lengths already achieved, they still preferred to use the smaller size, or even it was the only one they could use, still.

I think it's different for leather 8s because of the range of sticks/forks that can be used with them, but this absolutely 100% is the case for metal flexis! I bought a mega when there was a huge discount and the particular design was being retired, because I was outgrowing XL as a bun cage. That was ... I dunno, a year ago? I still don't know if I'll ever be able to wear it! I actually haven't tried using the XL for a while because it was quite heavy used that way, but I'm sure I would still be able to make it work. (I actually just about use Ls to hold tight/compressed double-wrapped LWB and Nautilus buns.)

Buying multiple would indeed be the best choice. I'm just a bit low on money right now, so it would be preferable to just get it right in one go. :D That's why I'm wondering what could be the safest bet.

These in my experience run more than one size larger. I had one in medium once, I could almost wear it as a bra.

No prob! I’ll be purchasing multiples of the FotM too, assuming they offer it in multiple metals. I like to remove the attached stick and use the flexi with my own hairsticks. Having the beads are all the size is more aesthetically pleasing to me in those pairings. I like this one enough I’d love to have it in rose/yellow gold/silver.

This is my favorite flexi that I own. It's an xl on a disc bun, and I'm not even bsl yet. Think I'll need to upsize by the time I hit waist? Anyone else here use xxl for buns pretty regularly? Is it normal that they take a long time to ship out orders? Mine has finally been shipped now, after over a week.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think there's anything wrong with taking your time when you are, for example, producing the items upon order. But I was under the impression that they had stock.

Swap boards for sure but you can also take half your hair do small buns and wrap remaining hair around and pin or you can modify/ remove the stick part that will really give you more room

A ribbon board I got at Home Goods. I don’t know the brand, but they had a ton of difference colors and sizes at all the same price point.

THANK YOU! :lol: Believe, sometimes I wish I could take a bit off! Esp now that my buns are getting bulkier and heavier. Hopefully they'll start being more compact sometime soon? The new not-dyed growth is just as monstrous as I remembered (before 2016 dyes), in some months I'll measure my pony diameter again but I was 5 1/8" before the summer. Well, in any case I'll need so many years until this thickness will be fully noticed in my whole lenght, dyes were sooo evil to me and I still got tons of damage from them :(

Leather 8 are awesome! I just have the red one in XL and a couple of S-M for half ups. After complaining about it, I did manage to find one of the stylist clips. And my goodness was the shipping fast! Usually when I order from Lilla Rose, it takes over a week before it gets to me, and that’s living in the same state as LR. This made it across the country in 3 days! I’ll try to snap a quick picture later, but I was pretty pleased with the experience and will probably do it again if they have more of the exclusives that are to my taste. Those leather 8s are so versatile :inlove:

Oh no! I’m sorry you can’t get them where you are. It seems like the stylist only clips (and live sale thing) are pretty new. Hopefully once they get into a good rhythm they can open up access to everyone. The stylist I purchased from said they’re releasing new flexis every couple weeks, so I’d imagine at some point the market will hit saturation and start turning up on resale sites or the swap board.

Your custom creation is pretty and such a good price! I’m sure it’s going to make someone very happy. How did the flexi turn out that you decided to keep? Pics? :eyebrows:
