I'd be okay with the angle if it didn't have a dangle; I think that throws it off too much in a bun, though I'd like to see it in a half-up.

MusicalSpoons, can the dangle be removed without looking too weird? I love calla lilies, and eventually plan on buying it.

In the photo of it here https://www.flickr.com/photos/66936705@N06/47806728851/ the dangle is hanging down (gravity, the clip was flat) so half of what you see there is the loop that would be left if you took the leaf off (the loop is actually the end of the pin through the pearl). I don't personally think it would look weird.

Eadwine I absolutely love that hummingbird. But if you wouldn't mind sharing, what is that little toy off to the left side of the flexi? I'm squinting and tilting my head tring to figure out what it is exactly. Looks like it might be a pretty flower little U-pin for your hummingbird to enjoy?

So I ran into another LR a few weeks ago.:couch: I swear it's like they have all come out of the woodwork now. I went like half a year before I ran into one when I was looking for one and now I've run into like 5 different ones in the last couple months.:rollin: I have yet to meet the same one twice though.:hmm: And they each have tried to recruit me...

Needless to say I picked up a couple new pretties. And I did order a pair of dragon U-pins from my stylist as well. Then I just had to take advantage of the sale, did two $60 orders, so I could get two sets of bobby pins, the same one though because having a random bobby pin without a mate drives me crazy.

The ones I picked up at the fair a couple weeks ago:

So 4 more mediums, 3 U-pins, 4 pairs of bobbies, 3 pumpkin charms to go with my maple leaf flexi and u-pins, and one of those elastic things to convert a necklace into a head band. they are all staying in thier original packaging for a bit while I work on my storage situation (https://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=2959&page=72&p=3682011&viewfull=1#post3682011), which is a hot mess right now. :brickwall

Eresh, I actually have a second one, so took a quick picture of that one because I'm holding the other one in ransom from myself. I previously got it at a fair and didn't realize until like a week later that it was damaged. I had contacted the rep from the fair and had arranged to meet up for an exchange. Then a few things came up that weekend, including a surprisingly big snow storm and the meet up didn't happen. A little after that I decided that I wanted to do a simple mod on it and was going to just replace the damaged bits, but first I wanted to order a new one. :p

If you are having a hard time seeing what is wrong with it. The paint is peeling on the light purple beads and the large butterfly is missing it's two crystals.

I'm going to replace the beads with some blue crystal or blue glass ones. I plan on taking the flexi on a trip to the craft store to find the perfect match. I'm not sure what I'm doing regarding the missing crystals. I'm actually considering just popping out the crystal on the small butterfly because the large butterfly actually looks fine without the crystals. I think I'll pick up some crystals and just set them in to see how I like the effect once I've changed out the beads. Or I might just change the color of the crystals too. :hmm: the possibilities...

Btw your link to the toy storage thread inspired me, thank you - I'd run out of room on the hanger for my new flexis so knew I'd have to change something, so this afternoon I hunted down better storage for my sticks and forks, and someone's scarf setup gave me the solution I needed for the flexis (for now, anyway - I have room for maybe 5 more XL flexis on it :lol:)

Thank you! :flower: I have been watching the forks for a while and finally decided to get one. It is way cooler than the other fork options they have (swerves and such), reminds me of the Senza Limiti stuff but simpler and with thinner prongs. The matte black is very cool, i was hesitating between that one and the silver one, but matte black is more original me thinks.

And the braided Tessa is a stylist exclusive! May be you can still get it, I prefer that one to the other Tessa... I'm using that one a lot lately, the leather has a coppery metallic vibe and looks very pretty :)

Good question. I started using flexis late 2017 (I think) at ... hm, mid-thigh?, and it was November 2018 around knee that I realised I needed to go up a size. I could probably have done it earlier; I know my XL was a tight squeeze for cinnabuns by summer 2018, if not before. However my mega still doesn't fit :rollin: (maybe it would for a rose bun if I ever had the energy to do one). Do bear in mind though that I have rather compressible hair, definite taper and thin ends - and a Large can still just about be persuaded to hold a very tight and very compact centreheld bun. Not comfortably, but it can still be done.

That's probably no help whatsoever, sorry!

Hmm, I think it was about 48".

As for sizing, you could try one of your usual buns with an XL to see how far off you are from being able to use one - there'll probably be a while between being able to use an XL and really *needing* to use one :)

Thank you for your answer, Milady! I'm afraid you have convinced me to add the leather Tessa to my wishlist and to try and find it, even though until now I wasn't interested in the leather Flexis at all, and I never chose a dragonfly centrepiece. So that's a huge revolution! :) I just love the colours of this clip and their combinations and suddenly I like the dragonfly too! I do wish (so much!) that this clip had the standard Flexi metal pin attached somehow, but... maybe I will risk it and see if it holds well in my low buns.

I don't like the colors of the green one at all. The pink I like but the yellow part that the leaf hangs from just doesn't match the rest.

The green one reminds me of the maple flexi and it's colors.

The dangly thing is something that makes me wary of this flexi... But i have ordered Mona which also has a dangly thingie. I'll see how i fare with that one before i make my decision about this one.

I like the idea but the whole thing together looks confusing to me and I would probably end up taking parts off. I don't like the dangly thing over the bird's head. Also, the bird seems to be standing on a perch so why is there a second perch dangling below? That would go and I'd probably hang the leaf from the cage. It's like there is way too much going on with that centerpeice.

I must say I like the June FOTMs. The green one more than the pink one in terms of colours (it really is a lot like the Maple clip), but I like the design. It's one of those I like to look at but would't wear most probably... but I still like the idea and the outcome. I see it as a pretty picture :)

I occasionally have problems with the notches on the flexi's stick snagging at my hair a bit. It's extremely rare that I get a the centerpiece snagged on my hair and it's not the dangle centerpieces I'll have a problem with, it's the ones without smooth/round edges like the dragon and jolly roger.

I've been contemplating going stickless for a bit now, but need to expand my neutralish stick collection first. I did buy a couple flexis a size up to try out, but I'm having a hard time pairing them. One in particular I got from my stylist, who got it from regionals, it's a mash up of a centerpiece from a stylist exclusive and a body from an old fotm. I absolutely love it and actually have both pieces separately in mediums. I'm having a hard time finding a potential stick to match up with it. Here is a picture of it. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well, i am pretty sure i am graduating to 2b/2c with my recent texture, but my second and third day hair usually looks a lot like yours if i keep it up all day, so we might be at least hair sisters! Your hair is very pretty. I always admired the pics you share.

Lovely flexi KameRose, I second the navy blue as well as silver/black. "Drift wood" colored/resembling stick might also work for that ocean/sailing/beach vibe.

It is a medium, though it seems larger than my other mediums. Probably because of a narrow centerpiece.
It doesn't feel too comfortable in my hair yet, when it comes to buns, but i am sure i will grow into it soon.

Forgive me for not going through 1500 pages. I had originally bought my first Flexi in 2012, and was so shocked and excited to see that they have branched out! I was at a street festival today and there was a Flexi booth there! I guess now they have spread out to the point where they have different branches, sort of like scentsy or something like that. Blew my mind.

I currently have a XS and a S. XS is still fine for half-ups, the S makes a very tight sqeeze around my ponytail but won't hold a "bun" anymore (currently I am at solid SL and growing).
What sizes would be advisable to get?

I saw the unicorn flexis on my stylist's FB group. I am thinking that I am going to have to get two of them, both in silver. One will be just to mod because I cannot get the idea of a black one with red eyes out of my head. I may have to wait until Black Friday though, yeah that is probably the smarter thing to do. And of course I now want to see if I can get a LI unicorn horn, maybe in black too...

I'm considering mutilating my mega :couch: an XL nowhere near holds a cinnabun and I keep looking longingly at the colours of my mega, so today I tried it with an acrylic stick - and it's perfect! A slight squeeze, even, but that would be okay with a thinner stick. I think the metal stick problem was the curve so it pulled the entire bun away from the scalp and with the weight of hair and clip it just didn't work (plus gave the bun more room to unravel a bit).
Not sure whether to cut it or try to undo the clip to get it off, though I don't think it would be worth scratching it just in case I somehow needed to put the stick back on - especially as I'd resigned myself to not actually growing into it anyway :hmm:

I feel really underwhelmed by these acrylic LR forks/pins/whatever they call them. Yeah, they're a bit of a different shape but it's just rounded. It's not like those cannot be made by makers on Etsy.

But, I'm eager to see what they have available tomorrow; I already know a few things I want xD One of them reminds me of jimikkis so I'm going to have to pick that one up.

Creepy Santa sells his acrylic forks, which is basically just a bent rod and looks the most like what LR's offering, for $24. And you only get a single fork from him. I think the short FPL on the LR acrylics will be an issue.

My thoughts.. they have a nice curve to them, when I look at them with their tops on the bottom, the left tine is shorter on all three. Only one had a tiny snag ball (looks like an air bubble).
They are NOT sturdy, but they will not break. Tines are flexible, you can easily push them together. Of course they're not thick, so.. once you put them in a bun, be mindful they don't get squished together because then you are looking at "will spit out of slippery hair in time".

I bought a silver braided leather in XL and navy leather also in XL. My L leather is a squeeze for pretty much anything other than a LWB and a few times I've found myself wishing I had a larger one. Almost any stick I'll use is thicker than the metal LR pin, and not curved in such a way that it gives the bun room to fall out (like the LR pin on a mega does)!

I do; they aren't flimsy but they are bendy, and they slip out of my hair fairly easily. I have slippery hair, though. My hair is ~3 inch circ so not thick. If bendy is an issue, I would suggest not getting them but I don't think flimsiness would be an issue.

By bendy, I mean they're compressible/flexible. Not to a great degree but some amount.

I have some Windsongs and they are heavier than these. Those DO stay in my hair, these do not.. have to push them back in every ten minutes or so hahaha. So if you have slippery hair.. do take note of that.

I wanted to share a recent buy I made, of a flexi-8 like clip. It has no markings, so dunno what brand. The seller said it was from the 1980's.

Here's some pics, isn't it cute!? Pretty little butterfly. I laid it next to my xl flexi to show the comparison in size and style...

The differences I can see are:

the way the stick curves and attaches to the stick is opposite. Like in my XL flexi, the outside curve of the stick goes against my head, but with the tiny butterfly clip, the inside of the curve goes against your head.
also in the lilla rose clip it has a flat metal piece that slides back and forth in the stick opening, but the smaller unknown brand has a wheel that slides back and forth in the stick opening.
the newer clip has two notches in the end where it can hook, the older clip does not.


Other than that tho, they are very very similar.

I came back to one package, and one wretched customs charge card - when I bought according to July's exchange rate I was well under the threshold; it came into the country at the beginning of August which put me over :doh: so I have to work out whether the second clip is worth it, or wait again for another sale? I find it utterly bizarre that all the sizes below are about half an inch apart in terms of the overall length of the 8, then there's at least an inch different between XL and XXL, almost an inch and a half between some of my XLs and my mega :confused:

YEP, and that annoyed me SO MUCH! I was totally into that FOTM, but after seeing the XXL I decided to pass... In that size lol. I took an M for half ups instead, even with the super high price I really like the rainbowy thing. I was also lucky to pick a XXL sugar skull instead of the XXL FOTM :)

I haven't been active in a while here, was wrapped up in finishing my 2nd Bachelors Degree. I was really stressful but I have done well. Also, now that I am done with that I immediately got a job :cheer:

Lucky enough, I still can wear my XS flexi. It helps with getting the hair out of my face, feel okay about it and enables me to focus on something else.

So, I would love to get some more XS flexis. I think I'll wait a bit for a sale. I am thinking maybe then I can get two and still be under the import VAT threshold.

Yes prices have gone up; that has caused me to empty my cart a few times in the past....and since buying the leather bolos (which I love)....I am not buying any more .

* Plus I prefer them have to no stick.... and have removed them all so I can use all my own sticks that match/coordinate ;)

The change in beading is also an issue for me re: the larger sizes; some are not as pretty as the smaller sizes actually ...and have not bought them for that reason as well :hmm:

i think that prices haven't changed since I discovered LR a couple of years ago, just the last FOTM was 2$ more expensive than any other flexi before, and some flexis I think have increased 1-2$ its price (Adora or Penelope for example) :) But it's probably a sign that prices will rise on new items...

Exactly - they're not (generally) putting up existing prices, but new items coming out seem to be more expensive than older equivalent items. I recall the FOTMs starting at $17 was an increase a couple of years ago, and now starting at $19 is another increase. It is understandable as their costs all round have probably increased over time, but for me even customs fees aside I'm not sure I can justify spending quite so much for what the clips actually are. [Even in the sales, the clips I still want often aren't reduced enough for me, alas.]

Edit 2: GroovyGranny you reminded me, I was really hoping when they introduced the stickless metal 8s that they would be sightly more affordable buuuut no, they were the usual flexi prices (because they had more large beads than regular flexis?) So that was a shame.

I am not sure how many I have.... truely. I have a bunch in limbo, they are strewn all over. I am in the process of putting together a new display system for them, but it is slow going. Last I counted... on May 1st? Well that's what I found that have recorded, says I had 53 at that time. I've acquired a fair few more since then, at least a dozen.

Milady I believe I said it before and now I'm going to say it again, your action shots are amazing and look so professional. A lot of times I'm looking at the action shots they show on LR or on other sites to advertise other hair toys and you can just feel that they aren't genuine. Like the person taking the photo or the one wearing it isn't very pleased. Yours while super professional looking have a genuine warmth and joy to them. I hope that made some sense. :crush:

Its a shame lillarose has been gradually upping the prices. Now a size L is even above the import customs limit :-( this makes an L 26 dollars, plus 13 euro administrationcosts, plus 5 euros importtaxes....nope. I won't be buying anymore. Really too bad because I love the november flexi.

My stylist shared the picture with me after I questioned about the inconsistency between the two that are pictured together in the thumbnail. She shared the clear too. The clear is much more consistent across the board. I just lament the fact that there are no pearls and they went with plain nickel on the clear version instead of the bright nickel that they used on the Lilac version.

My M leather with centerpiece is exactly as big as my L dragon flexi if that helps.

Here you have a comparation pic. The braided ones are the same size as the larger flexis, being both larger than the smaller flexis (dragon or thin leathers). Aldo, there is a difference between both braided, being the dragonfly a tad larger. All of those are megas.

probably a SILLY question but I don't see the actual lilla rose stick (not flexi) love on here - the kind where you can buy them in singles or pairs.

Is it that they are over priced or not the best quality? Not the wooden ones you find on ebay, the ones with the cute toppers.

You would have to buy the clips or leather bolos that have no attached sticks to have need of the single sticks...and most pictured here buy the clips with sticks attached

I do too, but I cut the sticks off and then use my own sticks of various materials (wood/acrylic/metal)....thanks to C_Bookworm and Lunasea :heart:

Some of my metal sticks are from LR as well as a few of the sticks that match the colored leather bolos that I also have; for me separate sticks have a better hold and it lessens the weight of the clip in my slippery hair.

The leather bolos are very affordable but the new clips with no sticks did not come at a lesser price as expected, but actually cost MORE :doh: so I haven't even bothered with them.

The cost of their sticks is very affordable if you choose to buy them to use them alone with no clips; there are much prettier sticks on Etsy ;).

We say BEDSPREADS (cover the entire bed to the floor)....unless it is a very puffy/insulated/smaller cover that lays on top of the bed.... then it is a COMFORTER (to me) ....or a DUVET to others :lol:

Yes....and we remove our bedspreads to sleep; comforters (or duvets) stay on to sleep for some; mine is for decoration.

Edit: on topic - I only own 2 LR sticks and they're okay, nothing special. The finish has come off the darker one in places and they're not brilliant quality. The choice of lengths they now do is probably good, but many people on here need longer than 5".

I prefer chunkier sticks myself. They were really useful as cheap but pretty starter sticks. As for using them with stickless 8s, I think having a topper is too much for my own style, and needing them to properly match minimises their usefulness. Whereas a stick that is attractive by itself, without a topper, works fine with a stickless 8 :lol:

I use comforter and bedspread interchangeably and I am not at all confident in my usage of duvet so I just avoid it. But I do like yours, Milady, and also that half up braid is very pretty!

I have one of the LR wooden sticks and I quite like it. It isn't very long but the wood seems to hold better in my slippery hair than an acrylic (unless it's a bumpy acrylic) and I like that they are not thick so I can use them in tighter buns. They are good for disc buns.

I have a few LR sticks. 5 pairs, 8 singles, two large U-pin/forks, and two swerves.

They are nice sticks, but they aren't 'pretty' ones. In other words I'll tend to reach for them when I'm looking for something more low key, also since half of mine are like christmas themed I don't wear them year round.

My only 'complaint' about the sticks is about the plain maple stick. It doesn't come with any kind of sealant on it. I was kinda horrified to find I stained it with the oils in my hair. So I used more of one of my hair oils to give it a more even stain rather than the splotch job that my hair did on it. It still is kinda splotched, but only if you are looking at it super intently and know it's there. I will probably order another one in the future and seal it with lacquer.

My first hair sticks were Lilla Rose ones that my mom gave me for Christmas*. They're not that amazing; they're a little rough IMO, and the ends are a little flat, rather than coming to a smooth point. I make nicer ones myself. That said, they are pretty old, so the ones LR makes now may be very different.

Today I made a half-up and braided the tail several bumps. I used an alligator clip to secure the braid. Then I made some kind of wrapped center bun (maybe a nautilus), removed the alligator clip and secured the bun with flexi.

The half-up makes my updo look less severe in the front. And the little braid gives the flexi something extra to hold on to, since my hair is super fine and slippery.
