It really bugs me when sites have sales but don't do whatever it is they have to do to account for the extra traffic they *know* they'll get as a result. Especially sites that don't do big sales often. You know it'll be popular, so plan ahead. I'd like to try a flexi but I've never used one so I'd rather get one in the sale as a "test", but I'm not going to spend all afternoon trying to do it.

They told us last week something was gonna happen, but no specifics, so this caught me by surprise.

Just keep at it. You'll get it eventually. :) It took me 30 minutes all in all, not too bad I'd say, given the circumstances.

But yes, I agree with you on the site load and that they should do something to pull through that.

So glad I got my Native Filigree earlier this year! The Purple Cluster is tempting, though...

For real.. This has been happening for a very, very long time with Lilla Rose and it's very frustrating. I try to avoid sales completely, to be honest. Doesn't help that you can't right click to open a new tab in the site either.

I managed to put two flexis in my cart. I really like the FOTM, which is why I'm actually considering to order something. Well, let's see if going through checkout works. :,D
I actually didn't really like many flexis until now but the FOTM and one that is on sale kinda changed my mind.

O wait my shopping cart was deleted. :steam

This too. It's a basic function plenty of other sites can manage. The ability to sort by price would be useful too. I wish they would update the site to something more modern.

I finally got everything working and got myself a L Native Filigree and Aurora Borealis Cluster and two of the Soaring Butterfly in pink Minis', for accents or holding braided ends, etc. I really considered the Hummingbird and the Dragonfly ones...but at the end of the day, I decided not. And I don't think I can beat my pretty Flitter flexi with the Green dragonfly anyway. :)

I ordered, I think, Friday night late at night and my flexi just arrived! I ordered the paw print one because I work at a pet resort and it works beautifully! As far as I can tell, having just put it in, anyhow.

I put my hair in a lazy wrap and secured it- the first try was lopsided so I redid it, and it is nice an even and it feels very secure.

I like that the pin length is shorter than my hairsticks- I don't have to worry about it coming out of my hair when I sleep, and I don't have to worry about accidentally melting and bending my acrylic hairsticks now! (Specifically my purple monster and alien sunset Ed's acrylics sticks.... I thought I was gonna cry!)

I want to order a small to hold the hair while I separate and braid it, but what I have a serious question and maybe y'all can help me?

I was thinking of getting two Mini's to hold the ends of my braids, but I don't know whether this would be too big/small. I braid my hair to the very end and it's quite a bit thinner there. I know some people here use them to hold braid ends... What do you think?

I tried laying on my pillow all my normal ways and couldn't feel it at all which is a huge plus for me. I never knew why people were such fans of this particular hair toy (I'm a hardcore hairstick girl) but after trying it myself I think I am hooked!!!

LOL... I hope I don't get addicted to Ficarres whenever I get around to trying them...

I tried searching for flexi 8s on etsy but that didn't really work. Is the lilla rose site the only place to really buy them (in the US for reference)?
Thanks

Aderyn

Lilla Rose is the only site that sells them new.

You can also find some on the swap board here, find a local consultant for Lilla Rose, or find some Flexi-8 inspired hair barrettes on Etsy.

I use minis on my braid tips but, I also use a small elastic and put my mini post through it as I have lost a few minis when my braid swings and catches on something.

I don't know what I was thinking ordering mediums in the sale. I got Victorian Inspiration and Native Filigree. I can squeeze a ponytail in but updos aren't going to work. Should've got L or XL. At least I know for next time. I'd never ordered before and underestimated how hair I have, as always.

Medium is pretty small.. maybe you could try some sectioned buns, i.e. take a third or half of your hair, bun, secure with flexi, then braid and wrap the rest of the hair around?

Hey,

does anybody know if the current flexi of the month is smaller than a normal flexi of the same size? I only have size M and I am thinking about getting a L for the first time.

Aderyn
July 22nd, 2015, 03:51 AM
I don't see why it would be smaller.. the clip part is the same, the figure 8 is the same, it's just the centerpiece and the choice of beads that changes.

I've never heard of a specific flexi-8 being smaller than average. Are you referring to the size of the centerpiece?

Sun_Flower
July 22nd, 2015, 04:11 AM
In the German LHN we figured out that most of the flexi of the month are smaller than the normal flexis (The 8, not the center piece). Sometimes the size the user normally chooses didn't fit because it was so small compared to the other flexis.
This is why I am asking if this also applies to the july flexi.

missblueeyes
July 22nd, 2015, 04:51 AM
Really? Oh damn, that'd suck. I ordered it as my first flexi ever and I'd hate it if it would be too small.

Theobroma
July 22nd, 2015, 05:46 AM
Define "normal Flexi"! :D I have six regular (i.e. non-FotM) Flexis in large and I can group them into three different loop sizes. My FotMs have roughly the same range of loop sizes as the regular ones, although they might lean slightly towards the smaller end of the spectrum.

But that's just for the larges. The XLs vary slightly as well, but not as much (at least, not the styles I have) and just because a given style in large is slightly smaller than the average large, that doesn't mean the XL version will be below-average too. I have Ruby Bouquet in both sizes and while the large is definitely on the small side of large, the XL is the biggest XLs I own (a full 5mm longer than some of the others).

I don't know what the picture would be for mediums, since I don't own enough of them for a meaningful comparison.

Aderyn
July 22nd, 2015, 07:09 AM
Weird, I haven't noticed any difference in size between my flexi-8s. If you think they run a bit small (or large), you can always smoosh the figure 8 shape to be narrower (or wider), which will lengthen or shorten the figure 8 respectively.

eadwine
July 22nd, 2015, 09:01 AM
Yes flexis can differ in loop size. I have.. too many  flexis, and there is a difference, but it has nothing to do with FOTM or anything, more with the beading and how many fit on the wire and what an effect that has on the size of the oo loops basically.

missblueeyes
July 23rd, 2015, 09:43 AM
I got my first flexis today! Here's a picture of the current FOTM. :)

http://i62.tinypic.com/2n6sqoo.jpg

First, I thought they'd be too small for sure but they're spot on. I hope they'll fit for a lot longer.
Lilla Rose did mess up, though. My Tiger Lily Amethyst flexi's center piece is the wrong way round. :/ I already messaged customer service but I don't really want to send it back because that would be more expensive than the whole flexi was during the sale. D:

The ladies on the German board said that it was quite common problem with the Tiger Lily flexis. I don't mind it too much because you can't really tell when it's worn, but still.
Thankfully, I didn't have to pay any customs. I would have been really annoyed!

Can't say I'm very impressed by the customer service I got. It was fast, yeah... but I only got a generic e-mail answer and the lady did not even go into what I wrote. She basically linked me the return information, which means I'd have to pay the postage myself. To top all of that off, she spelt my name wrong. Ah well, I'm glad the flaw isn't too noticeable. I still wanted to report this here because I heard so much praise of the customer service before and I'm honestly disappointed.

That being said, if I had paid more than 8$ for the flexi, I'd probably send it back to the EU depot but since that'd be well over 8€ in postage costs for me, I'd rather not.

A little off topic kinda but.. I've had similar experiences with various companies customer service (not Lilla Rose, just in general). In fact it just happened a few weeks ago. I emailed them and got a generic response and it was totally obvious they had completely ignored everything I said, so I replied and told them they didn't read a thing I said and aren't helping me with my issue. The lady still wasn't helpful (big surprise..) so a few days later I resubmitted my email and got someone who actually WAS helpful and read and replied to my email and got my issue sorted out. Maybe you could try contacting them again? Just a thought anyways

Yeah, I get what you're saying and if it was really a big problem for me, I'd probably go after it but right now, I can't really be bothered. The flexi is fine, you can't tell the centerpiece is not facing the right way when it's worn and I honestly would rather keep it than having to hassle with the local post office and having to wait for a couple of weeks on top of that.
I needed some hair toy to sleep in anyways and it was only 8$.
I'm really just upset that they spelt my name wrong in the reply, haha.

Hi ladies,

I fitted a L in my LWB when it was waist/layered. That might be an XL right now as I'm approaching classic. That would mean I need a mega for a cinnabun. So I guess those are the sizes to get. Curly hair is in and of itself more "poofy" and usually is comfy with bigger sizes, so I'd go for those, yes.

So - they are supposed to start phasing in the new cart over the next few weeks. It should be interesting because they will be moving things around on the back end to try and improve the regular issues and really improve the sale day issues.

I have past classic length, F/M, ii/iii, straight hair and I am between XL and Mega. XL holds basically any bun if it is inserted the same way a stick (ie just holding part of my hair in the flexi, not all of it), but I am at the beginning of outgrowing the size. Mega will hold some styles depending on how I insert it, my go-to for mega is a disc bun.

I'm not sure how my straight hair translates to curly in this matter though. :)

I will say this: If your hair tapers a lot, I recommend an XL; if it stays pretty thick throughout, I recommend a Mega.

Can't decide if XL or Mega is better. If it is a big Mega I can't wear it, except in a cinnamon bun at the moment because of my hairloss. And I have the starfish in blue from last summer in Mega.
But if the XL is too small I just can use it for a short time and it looks eaten up ...

I was able to open an item in a new tab? When I middle click an item on the picture overview it opens in a new tab for me.

Doesn't do that here (I don't have "middle-click", but right-clicking on the items doesn't give me an option to open a new tab). I like the new layout and I especially like that the browser's "back" button now works, but I agree it would have been nice to open items in a new tab. "Bookmark this link" and "Copy link location" don't seem to work either -- looks as though much of the right-click functionality is broken. Perhaps someone could let Flexi know?

When you right click on the text below the image you can copy the link location and then paste it in a new tab.

Not in Firefox you can't. I get a string of gibberish like this:

javascript:WebForm_DoPostBackWithOptions(new%20Web Form_PostBackOptions("ctl00$MainCartDisplay$lnkProduct_19840_3",%20"",%20false,%20"",%20"ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19840&CatalogueID=211&PartyID=0&PartyGuestID=0&InternalUse=1&ProductGroupString=109.110&ReferringDealerID=825280",%20false,%20true))

...and when I paste it into the location bar on a new tab it does precisely nothing.

Not a clue to be honest.. I believe that centerpiece was.. but I am not sure about the beading.

I have a question: does anyone swim with a flexi in a pool? Would like to hear about that if you do, not certain if they are suitable at all, I mean I would get a basic one for something like this, but I was wondering :)

Yes, that's what I thought as well. Personally I wouldn't swim with a golden flexi in a pool because I've noticed the gold color fades if you wear a flexi very often... Guess chlorine would do the same? If you would buy a simple silver one, I guess it wouldn't be a problem :)

Yup. It's the only way my hair stays put and out of the way, even when diving or lapping underwater. :D I braid my pre-oiled hair, then cinnabun it and secure it with a flexi XL over the entire bun.

eadwine
August 5th, 2015, 02:39 AM
So they don't get rusty or anything?

I wasn't planning on wearing one with fancy beading or a specific color, more something like the materials used in "simple band" for instance. Ones with basic things. :)

Not yet. If they did, then damp bunning, sweat and rain would've done their thing, too (but haven't). My XLs are my plainer/neutral/metallic flexis, luckily. :D I also use a flexi to keep my hair up at night (more often than not a folded braid), and haven't noticed any damage from our constant humidity.

Hmm, on my monitor Hele's pic comes closer to that colour than yours does! But hers is more muted than the bus and yours is brighter. I'm still none the wiser! :D

How would you say the colour compares in real life to the pics on the Lilla Rose page? It's a very bright shade there; both action shots and the bus picture suggests that it isn't as bright in reality.

Even THAT depends on the settings on your monitor unfortunately. http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/ for setting your LCD up correctly.

But for ME, the pics on the site are far brighter than in real life. Real life is more teal and quite darker.

When you take a picture with flash it comes closer to the color on the lr page. My earlier picture was taken with natural light.

Well, I just received my first flexi in the mail today from kherome and I had to do some tinkering to work it into a bun so I think a M is just a tad too small for me, but here is a modified and messy lwb. Maybe I can get it to work better when it's NOT freshly washed.

Thanks Heli and Adiro. Green is my favorite color but I am sure I should have gotten a larger size. It's too big for a pony and too small for anything besides a lwb. I need to do some super bun tweaking to make it work and I still think it looks silly compared to all of your photos. Lesson learned.

Looks nice! I love the color on the Emerald dream. That LWB is the loosest LWB I've ever seen! Did it hold like that? I can't get mine to hold that loosely with a flexi, though it will with a Jeter fork. I do as Eadwine suggested and lightly roll or twist my hair as I bun it to avoid escaping pieces.

kherome looks nice! I tweaked it some more and made it a bit more compact and it held. but if I roll it much tighter then the flex part won't even try to reach around the center part to get near the bar. So there is quite a learning curve for me. I did get it to do this tonight and it seems to be holding pretty well so I'll be wearing it for work tonight. It's a Dutch braid coiled into a pretty loose cinnabun. For the record though, my buns are generally pretty right. Especially my LWB. But I just can't get the flexi around my normal one.

That looks nice too. I had a lot of trouble with flexi8s at first. In fact, I gave up on them for over a year. But eventually I figured out a way that works for me, and now I like them as an alternative to my TTs or Jeters. You'll have to keep trying things out, and maybe order a couple of the other sizes and see where you find the sweet spot!

Flexi fanatics, can you help me out please? I love how flexis look and would really like to try one out for myself, but I don't know what size to pick (I had one several years ago but I have way more hair now.) My hair is pretty thick, and a bit past BCL. I know a large would be too small because I have one from a long time ago and it doesn't do the trick. Do most of you use extra large? I think the mega might be too big but honestly I don't know.

AlyBlu

On the website, there is now on every style page a link that helps you figure out sizing. I wear both XL and XXL and can almost do a large on a center held bun. I do not know how to rate or size my hair but my hair is to the top of my thighs, medium thin and heavy.

I think you could actually use both - XL for centerheld buns and Mega for cinnamon buns.

Becs, I think both XLs and megas would work well with your length and thickness... It's really hard to guess, though, without seeing your hair in a bun first. *^.^*

eadwine
August 14th, 2015, 05:29 AM
I would NOT go for the mega to start out with. I know folks with a higher hair type than yours, thicker hair, and are more curly (who usually need to go bigger) and they find the mega way too big. So I'd go for the XL at the largest.

I think it depends on hair thickness and the flexi size, so hard to say. Maybe try with an XL first, but you will probably eventually upgrade to XL.
I can't really wear XLs - they always feel a tad too tight (and my hair broke one wearing it as a ponytail :-().
The Megas are much larger than XL though. For me they are too small for a cinammonbun - but for other types of bun they range from being just perfect (LWB, occasionally Nauthilus) to too big still. I've noticed some seem to have larger loops, and with some bending on the loops, you can modify the size, so that's another option. :)

missblueeyes
August 14th, 2015, 08:34 AM
You also have to take account that the size of the 8 varies sometimes, even though the stick length is always the same. I heard that Ruby Bouquet runs small, for example.
For me, L fits just right in centerhelds but for cinnamon buns I'd need an XL. I don't think I'd ever need a Mega because I don't have that much hair to begin with but you never know. ;)

In my opinion it is very disapponting that the XLs are getting smaller and the Flexi of the months are really small. The Megas are not so comfortable for me because the stick is very long.
I wanted to ask around if we start a petition for a XL+ but I think it would be just enough if they would make the 8 of the XL in the right size.
The hibiskus is very small and my hair gets really under pressure.

And I had not enough time to write a mail, yet. It should be written in good english and that needs some more time than a posting in the LHC.

Hmm.

Somehow I don't think I'm going to take to this look. The gold one is sort of OK but the others do absolutely nothing for me. And I wonder how those would look when worn -- that brown tubing (or whatever it is) would blend with my hair almost completely and I suspect the effect would be a bit weird; you'd have to look very closely to see what was holding the clip together!

Indeed same thing on the cross one. I wouldn't buy one with a cross... like ever. *shrug*

I am thinking about that one with the tubing. Is that rubber? Can someone find out? I mean.. if this is the case and it wears off in time, that will render the whole clip useless as all the beads (including the little tube that the pin sits on) will start moving around on the wire. Definitely a case of "store in the dark and hope for the best" then.

From what I can gather, it is a type of pvc piping.

i think the ones with the tubing are cute, but it looks like something that would wear out at some point and break, kind of like how hair ties do. Of the four new ones i might get the one with the blue flower in the middle, it's the same centerpiece as the Festive Leaf one and i'm a fan of it. Isn't the one in the top left Dusky Plum but with different colors? And am i the only one that saw the September FOTM and immediately thought it was a pineapple in the middle of the flexi? :p

ravenreed
August 26th, 2015, 01:49 AM
I am pretty sure it is a thistle. As for the tubing, it looks like the same stuff I use on my memory wire bracelets. I don't wear them every day, but they hold up just fine. I am not easy on my jewelry so I would definitely consider buying a flexi with that in the design.

I was really hoping for a pretty, autumn-y flexi and now we get that. Sorry, but the center piece is questionable if you can't recognize it at first glance. I had to read the thread to figure out what it was. :/ The purple pearls look to be the same like my tiger lily amethyst. I hope the October FOTM will be better.

For the new ones, I'm wondering if it's silicon I've come across some silicon tubes that look like this, in my searches for hair toy materials. The ones I saw allow the use of wire through them, so they shouldn't wear out in the way hair ties do as they won't be constantly stretched and pulled the way hair ties are and silicon is rather robust.

As I got some material classifications (as in rubber and pvc will turn brittle, but there is such a thing as tube beads) I have sent a mail to LR Steve, asking what the material is. I hope we'll get an answer before they go live!

eadwine

Ok.. I guess that one is out for me then.

ravenreed

I think this (http://www.beadalon.com/content/combine_memory_wire_and_rubber_tubing.asp) is the material. As I said, I have used it in my jewelry so I don't mind it.

lazuliblue

I think it's a good idea in the sense that it's something different. The turtle is very cute! I think the trouble might be that it kind of looks like a hair tie, and I'm not sure how strong it will be.

Does anyone else have the problem of the focal bead being upside down?

For flexis that have a centerpiece with a definite direction, I have some where the "stick" inserts right to left. This is good for me but I have some that have to be inserted left to right to have the centerpiece upright and I can't get the swing of it. I just avoid those flexis :( in my collection.

So my question is and maybe I'll create a poll :D

Do you insert your flexi right to left or left to right?

missblueeyes
August 26th, 2015, 03:46 PM
I think you could ask Lilla Rose for an exchange if you received an upside down flexi, Viola88. Or, if you're left handed, write them a note and they'll send you left-handed flexis. :) I insert mine right to left.

I just cruised through it just fine. They all start at 9.35 (for the minis) save for the gold with pearl one which starts at 10.16.

Ok, thanks. :) I've been getting an error message or "Catalog Load In Progress. Please try your request again in 1 minute." for the past 30 minutes or so.
What I do wonder is if this is the actual test before they upgrade to the new shopping experience or if this is actually it. Ah, well, who knows. As long as they don't allow us to open different flexis in different browser tabs, I won't be happy anyways. :P

KittyBird

Hurm. Site is behaving very strangely. I load the title page, then click "Shop now"... and it presents me with one clip and one only, in what seems to be a random size and style. Sometimes with a picture, sometimes without.
