Lovely, Ani!

Lovely, eadwine. That bat is amazing. I did notice something about the texture of your hair; like it's more textured, and thicker, less slick. I like it! Or is that me, just imagining things. ;) :o

It could be both hahaha

The texture seems to be changing, we'll have to wait and see what gives.

The number of grays is still the same despite going almost half way in my 40s, about 5 tops

I can thank my gran for that one!

So I think my medium bat flexi is a smidge too small for me. But in fiddling around with it I've figured out a way to use flexis that might not be quite large enough for your hair. What I've found is that by starting my bun with a ponytail rather than loose hair I don't have to grab as much hair for a solid hold as I normally would, in particular I don't have to go all the way to the scalp, just the top bit in the center of the bun. This makes it much easier to use a too small flexi and still have a rock solid hold for your bun. :)

I'm so broke, but I ordered XL Emerald Joy and Holly Leaf. My hair's at a weird length where I can't really do much with a Flexi, too short for a LWB, too long for the twist I used to do with my Flexis, can't do a cinnabun cos the Flexi displaces too much hair. Probably going to be limited to half-ups with the rest wrapped around it.

When my hair got too long for a regular French twist I just kept twisting up until the ends twisted in and then the long top I just folded back down and twisted more until it was tight. I called it a double twist. I don't know, I just did it on my own and it's hard to describe. Since my chop a year ago though my hair is long enough to need to do it anymore.

lithostoic- Of course, it depends what you plan on doing with it, but I would say a small or medium. A small should work for pony tails (I like to use one to start braids) and may work for center held buns? I didn't get my first flexi until I was at waist, so I'm not sure about that. A medium may work better for buns and would keep working. I have a slightly larger circumference, and at hip I can still use a medium for a LWB.

I LOVE the holly, but I'm trying to decide if I want any others before I order...

I finally caved and got Autumn Compass... and Emerald Joy was a foregone conclusion because I love Crimson Joy and I've been stalking the LR site for more designs with green stones. :)

I really should leave it at that because Flexis are just too expensive these days... but North Star is sooo tempting! Would anyone by any chance know whether that design runs large or small? I'm wondering whether it might be too silver for my colouring in XL, but if it runs small (as Crimson Joy does) I won't be able to bun with a Large. Do we have a lurking consultant, perhaps, who's seen them in person and could shed some light?

The North star is the first one that's tempted me in quite awhile too. Although I'm afraid it will have the hair-catching problems that compass rose does for me (most flexi's don't. That one does!). I shall also anxiously await Eadwine's photo!

Oh my gosh, wow, bjr, that flexi looks so much better in your hair than it ever did in mine! I love the placement in the last picture! I never thought to use it "off center." Your hair also looks incredibly soft!

I have action shots of my last remaining flexi. When I first joined, the Flexi-8s were the first toy that I became obsessed with and I ended up acquiring four over a couple of months, three of which have now been gifted away due to lack of use. I find that I tend toward a more simpler aesthetic, which is why I've held on only to my "simple band" (perfect for sleeping and showering in):

A lot of my clips look like that when they arrive. I sort it out just by bending the wire. On your pic of the back of the clip, the ends of the wire interlock underneath the left-hand eyelet on the back of the centrepiece, making a joint there. That's why you get a sharper angle on that side than on the other side, where there's a continuous length of wire running through the eyelet. You can easily bend a corresponding kink into the wire on that side to make the shape more symmetrical. I do it all the time. Judging from the pic, there's nothing wrong with your clip that a bit of pressure from your fingers can't fix!

And that's a gorgeous clip. I've got one en route to me and now I can hardly wait for it to arrive. :)

So I bought my first flexi. Got it on ebay so I do not think its available on the lilla rose site anymore.
Size small.
I think I actually have too much hair and need a medium for my larger buns, I cant do tight buns as they lead to headaches. It CAN hold my hair in a lazy wrap bun, but thats about it. I love it though, very pretty. If I get annoyed with it ill probably but it up for swapping but, we will see! Its unique in a way. I am not keen on color so its perfect in all other ways.. lol

Very pretty! I have only seen the colored one of that style ever on the Lilla Rose site. Try putting the clips only around part of the bun at the top. Securing the entire bun with just part of the last loop and ends of hair, i stead of trying to do the whole bun. (Does that make since? ) I think that wouldn't be too tight for you, but still be able to wear that clip in a larger bun.

I tried to do that but it puts too much weight on the crown and its too much tension for me and causes a headache. I am sure i just need practice, i have only had it for about a day so i am still learning what buns work and what buns do not.

My North Star Flexi arrived today.

And it has a quality issue. The moment I touched it I noticed that the beads were sitting VERY loosely on the loop and able to spin freely. On closer examination they're so loose that there would be room for an entire extra silver bead on the right side. (I don't think there's actually a bead missing; the problem seems to be that the wire is too long.) And the two little loops that connect the ends of the wires underneath the centrepiece are off-centre, which places the star at an angle and puts an odd, lopsided kink into the loop when worn.

Ugh, this really isn't good enough given the price of these clips nowadays! I hope their customer service is still as good as it used to be, because this one's got to go back, unfortunately.

I hadn't even noticed until now but one of my tiny crystals is not sitting in its slot but next to it. It is not loose or anything thank goodness so you don't notice, but yeah.. a little annoying now that I DO know.

This question is for those that have tried "U" pins from Lila Rose. I know they come in pairs. Do they hold the hair alone, or do you need some other means to hold your hair and use them for embellishment?
I am excited about the Black Friday sale. I bought several flexi's at last year's sale. I only bought one this year at the local fair. I only attended one fair though, as they seem to eat my pocketbook:)

Libbylou, a pair of "U" pins will easily hold my classic-length hair with no extra tools needed. I've used them for French twists and for cinnabun-type updos and they hold very stably.

Hello :o
I have been following this thread for a while, and I now would like to be a part of it!
I love flexis! I have very thin hair, between APL and BSL, but my cinnabun is so small that it gets fully caged in a Medium, and a half-up fits in an XS. That's why I like flexis: they make my hair look prettier even though it's so thin.
Special thanks to Eadwine for all the pictures you post of the flexis you buy, it has helped me many times to see what the flexis really look like and decide whether or not I want one too! I have quite a big collection myself ;-).
I wish you all a Happy Black Friday Sale!

I think some depends on your hair texture, too. My hair is BSL currently, but even at anywhere from APL to hip, the u-pins will sometimes hold a cinnamon for me, but not a French twist by itself. My hair is just too slippery and fine, and they tend to slide out. Capacity wise, they're more than enough, but my hair spits out most metal toys eventually (Quattro being the exception). That said, they do hold a bun for me reasonably well as long as I just push them back in once every couple of hours. The twist, they won't work mostly because I just don't have enough hair I think. They hold fine in my daughter's fine hair which is thicker than mine.

Theobroma, I hope they'll exchange it for you!

Welcome, Alyandra! :waving:

Yay, KittyBird! That's sweet!

My order went through so much easier this year, even though I had to re-do my pre-sale cart with the discounts included. :wethree: And then I made it to the free shipping amount, only to find one of my items was even cheaper at checkout, so had to go back and add something else, because, yanno, goodies in hand be much more betters than throwing money away on a potential freebie.

My damage, after patiently :brains: waiting for months, and months, and months until this sale to buy:
Sea Treasures--mini
Flip Flops, and Dragon--small
Dark Camel, Black, and Beige leather thingies--small
Cream leather thingy--XL (small was sold out before the sale, but this ended up being my cheaper-at-checkout buy).
Aurora Borealis U Pins, and a squared Rose Gold U Pin.

A single u-pin holds my hair in a bun perfectly fine. They did even when it was longer. I do need two for a french twist though, although I prefer just using a flexi 8 for french twists.

As far as the u-pins -- I have a set and I have had a lot of trouble reliably getting them to work. Sometimes I can, but only a couple of times have I gotten them to hold all day in a style that looks nice. They are very pretty though (I have the copper rose ones) so I keep fiddling with them.

Thanks Rags! :o
Eadwine, I hope they will do something about it. I had ordered a Plum hair stick but didn't realize immediately that there was a small chink on the upper bead, just near the metal pin head (a 2-mm circle of light violet paint is missing). Unfortunately Plum hair sticks had completely sold out in the meantime. Lilla Rose replied that I could send it back and exchange it for another style, but a) I must pay for the shipping fee, which will be higher than the item itself, and b) I would rather keep it than exchanging it for another style.
I am not happy at all with having to pay the shipping fee back to exchange a defective item :-(

Then mail them again , because that is not right. When I had to ship those way too large leather ones back (to Germany) they reimbursed the fee.

Theobroma
November 26th, 2016, 02:38 AM
They finally replied to my email -- and it turns out that, like Alyandra, I have to pay postage to Germany to return the faulty clip.

This may be my cue to decide I have enough Flexis. Being penalised for their mistake is just not acceptable. :(

Hrmmm.. I haven't heard anything yet, but I am going to mail my consultant, this is not really a nice thing!

Theobroma
November 26th, 2016, 06:33 AM
Yes, I'll be notifying my consultant too. If only to let her know why she's likely to get a lot less business from me in the future. These clips have become expensive enough without adding an extra penalty onto the purchase price and it's just not on.

Especially since, frankly, I have so many Flexis already that I could quite happily go the rest of my natural life without buying another. Unless I lose or break one that I absolutely need for a specific purpose, which is only the braided 8s really, there's no objective reason why I'd need to risk buying internationally from a company with dodgy customer care.

Theobroma
November 26th, 2016, 07:11 AM
Update:

I've now had a closer read at the PDF they sent me with instructions for how to return an item for exchange or refund.

Turns out that if you return a clip -- EVEN A DEFECTIVE CLIP -- for a refund they won't even refund the shipping on the original purchase unless you mail the item back to the US. In other words, if I decide I don't want to risk receiving yet another defective clip in exchange, I'll get the purchase price back but will be out BOTH the $4 shipping charge from LR to my location AND the cost of mailing the defective clip to their returns address in Germany.

And the paperwork is beyond belief. You have to print out and fill in that PDF and include it in your envelope along with printouts of any emails about the exchange. That's going to pad out the package so much it'll cost even MORE to ship just to Germany, let alone back to the US.

Really, this is NOT GOOD ENOUGH. They've gone from completely uncomplicated replacements to this huge rigmarole that financially penalises the buyer for the company's mistakes; if they stick to this policy then I am seriously done with Lilla Rose. No hairtoy is worth this much hassle.

I'm waiting on my replacement Emerald Joy and I agree, the return process is ridiculous. You have to fill in a form, print out all emails, provide the order number, and for the US postage, you have to go to some dodgy looking USPS page and enter all the info yourself. I've never had to go through stuff like this for a return with any other company. Everyone else will provide you with a return label you just have to print out, and a little slip to put inside the package. Also, when I printed from the USPS site I thought LR would email me a tracking number, but they don't, and I didn't print myself a copy. So I had no idea where the package was once it left.

Keep complaining, Theobroma. It's absurd that you should have to pay for their mistakes. This is customer service 101.

Theobroma
November 26th, 2016, 07:54 AM
The entire new returns process is just ridiculous. Don't they keep copies of their emails, that they need us to pay to post printouts by snail mail?

BTW this is the main issue with the clip I received:

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=25349&d=1480171855

The other one is that the centrepiece is askew on the loop, but that's a relatively minor matter compared to the loose beads.

November 26th, 2016, 09:15 AM
No, I agree.

I've kept buying from them over the years because I always knew that if something did go wrong (and it rarely did; this is only the second faulty clip I've ever received) the company would see me right without fuss. But apparently that's now a thing of the past.

It's sad to think that Lilla Rose has gone from having some of the best customer care on the Internet to being one of the worst people to deal with if there's an issue. :(

I have written back to LR to say I was not happy with paying the shipping fee back to their EU center, which would mean that after having paid my item once, I would have to pay additional shipping fee to get it exchanged for another style, since the one I have is out of stock (and a limited edition apparently).
This is what they replied : 'We will reimburse you up to $4.00 for shipping. Just scan and email us the receipt for your postage.'
This is better than nothing but it doesn't solve my problem: I don't want another style. So I'll just keep my hairstick and simply make the chink face towards my head when using it.

It's sad to think that Lilla Rose has gone from having some of the best customer care on the Internet to being one of the worst people to deal with if there's an issue. :(

I totally agree with you Theobrama.
This summer they made a mistake when sending a headband, they included the wrong kind of elastic (a silver one, not a black nickel one). I emailed them and they told me that they would replace it immediately and that I could keep the elastic. They didn't even ask for a picture.
In October, I ordered two Hawaiian bobby pins because they were nearly out of stock (same order as my hairstick). A few days later, they wrote and told me that they had made a mistake and had no more set of two bobby pins, there was only one bobby pin left, everything else being sold out. They wanted to know if I wanted my money back, or the Hawaiiaan bobby plus another one of my choice, or another set of my choice. I replied that I was not happy at all because this was their mistake but I was the one not getting the bobby pins. Since I had chosen to keep the Hawaiian bobby pin and a butterfly bobby pin, they told me that they would send a set of 2 butterflies along with the lonely Hawaiian one.

I feel that now, you need to insist to get something from them when it is not your mistake...

That's certainly what it looks like! And honestly, if we have to put up a fight every time something goes wrong, it just isn't worth the effort any more. :(

Good to know, at least, that they agreed to reimburse your postage. I'm going to write to them again and insist they do the same for me, and that they accept a scanned return form and waive the ridiculous requirement to send paper copies of all the emails. If I have to stuff so much paper into the envelope it's going to cost way more postage than they're willing to reimburse!

Oh good grief, what is WRONG with LR these days? This gives me no confidence whatsoever that they'll be able to replace mine with one that isn't defective in some way.

Jennareid, I suggest making a HUGE stink about this. You've already gone through that whole absurd business with the returns form and the email printouts once, right? Do they have a twitter or facebook or is it only the individual consultants who have social media? I (luckily) haven't had any issues with LR, but I know if you post about your issues publicly like that things seem to get taken care of faster. But I don't know what a consultant could do for you, so you probably need to find the corporate account.

I already emailed them. At this point I don't care about a refund or replacement. I'll wear it, it's just annoying. But I definitely won't be ordering any full price clips again, I told them their customer service is a huge disappointment, it's a major hassle the way they have returns set up, and I also mentioned that charging international customers to return faulty clips does NOT make them look good at all. My sale order yesterday will most likely be my last for a long time. $28/XL is not something I'm willing to pay anymore.

I think an XS wold work -- I agree a small would be too big -- my ponytail is a bit smaller (probably like 8.5 cm) and I use smalls for a ponytail. Personally, I use a mini for half ups, but I don't actually put half of my hair back when I wear a half up.

Thanks! I ended up getting an autumn compass in L, hoping it will work for centre-held buns, and a flitter in XS. I paid a total of 26 USD (and only 4 USD for shipping, thought it would be way more expensive. How much do you usually pay for shipping to Europe?). Already starting to regret I didn't also get the Keltic Lore in XL, though. Maybe another time :)

That's great, jennareid -- but honestly, hand-picking a non-defective clip is what they should have done in the first place! As for international returns, their form says that they'll pay up to $4 if you post the defective clip to their US address, but not if you post it to their German address. Trouble is, postage to the US costs more than $4 even without bulking up the envelope with all that ridiculous paperwork they want you to include (email printouts -- my mind is still boggling at that one).

It's unacceptable on every level; returns should be free -- especially if the reason for sending a clip back is because they shipped out a defective one!

$4 is their usual international shipping rate. (Unless their system glitches. I've been charged $4.95 before for no reason I could reconstruct, except that the site was spitting out errors at me and it took hours to get the order through at all.) Be careful about putting too many clips in one order, though, since the total value of the parcel may make you liable for customs charges in your country, in which case it would be considerably cheaper to place two orders and pay those $4 twice.

Also, we are currently learning that returns are now a major PITA, so be aware that if they send you a defective clip, exchanges are complicated and you'll probably have to pay for return shipping even though it isn't your fault. :(

Cinnamonagouti
November 28th, 2016, 05:05 AM
I looked that up before ordering, and apparently you're only liable for customs if the total value exceeds 1500 SEK (about 162 USD), so it shouldn't be a problem in my case. Then there's 25% VAT, of course...

Sucks about the returns, you really shouldn't need to pay for their mistakes. Let's hope my flexis will fit - I was a bit unsure if L or XL would be most suitable. But the autumn compass was out of stock in XL, so I got the L.

So I wrote to them again and then had to prod them a second time again because they don't seem to be answering their emails first time round at the moment. I got this reply about the issue of paying return postage and bulking up the envelope with all those printouts:

We do refund up to $4.00 US Dollars for the postage paid by you. It will not be necessary to return all paperwork. A copy of your Order Number and the form will suffice for an exchange. The process for exchange, at this time, will not be necessary we will be happy to process the exchange for you as a one time courtesy. On all future exchanges we will require the item to be returned for quality control claim issues. Thank you for being a Lilla Rose customer.

So apparently, just this once, and after my spending days on email communications, they're waiving the whole returns rigmarole and will send me a replacement clip with no further action on my part. That's nice of them of course, but it would have been even nicer if I hadn't had to make such a big fuss in order to get the kind of treatment from them that one would get as a matter of course from any mail order business around here! I'm still not left with much confidence in the company for the purpose of future orders, and I've abandoned the idea of putting together another order on the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale...

I have bought a golden M one, currently on its way to me. I see the centerpiece not as a tree but as a branch fallen on the ground, with blobs of snow resting on it :-).

Well, I like it, but only in larger sizes (starting from M). In smaller sizes, I think that the pearls on the branch are too close from those on the loops, and they all blend together. Also, I like the golden one waayyyy better than the silver one, the white pearls don't show enough on silver. I'm a brunette and the gold and white will contrast with my hair :-).

I'll try to post a picture when it arrives.

I could do this bun at that length.. just don't twist the hair at all when making the loop. Also.. reduce the number of fingers you loop around. I started off with as little as two :)

And if it cannot be held up with this bun, the hair will need to be a little longer, indeed, for this to hold.

The problem isnt if I can do buns because I can and they hold up very well with spin pins and sticks and most other toys, the problem is I cant seem to get the flexi to hold buns in my hair, flexi only. The flexi, both small and medium, is too heavy for my hair and scalp/head and pops off like as if I have too much hair, my hair almost swallows them or the flexi gets hair caught within itself. They hurt me so i refrain from wearing them, but assume I am doing something wrong. So thats why I am wondering what I am doing wrong or if there is a specific bun I need to accomplish for a flexi to work for me.

Rebeccalaurenxx, my hair did this too (got tangled in the flexi or the flexi felt heavy). It still kind of does occasionally - I feel like it goes through phases according to exactly how long it is. I think it's because depending how long it is, the ends come out in a different place in a lazy wrap bun or a nautilus.

Anyway a lazy wrap bun with a medium flexi was best for me at your length. But if it doesn't work... don't bin the flexi yet... try again in 3 months, maybe your hair does the changing-its-mind thing that mine does :)

DEFINITELY size down if buying the stick-less 8s. I bought L instead of XL because I heard they run small. It's exactly the same size as the XL clips. They really need to relabel them. Here it is held over the Sable.

Yep.. I ordered an M, got a size L and they went high and low that this is what they were meant to be as M.

Right.

At least I can make an L work, but on those leather like ones the size difference was ridiculous.

Nice haul you got there!

Nice haul, jennareid! But I suspect they sent you that braided 8 in XL by mistake. I have two XLs and they're both exactly the size of a regular beaded XL, so I think that what you've got there is probably an XL too.

I ordered winter wonder in XS, large and in u-pins and also picked up those skull bobbies I wanted.

My order came today and I love everything. These are my first bobbies from them and boy are they strong and tight. I just wanted them for when I feel like pulling my hair back a little on one side but getting them off without ripping my hair off wasn't easy.

I wish my order would arrive soon!! The tracking page has been stuck at "in transit to country" for nine days now. I'm planning to cut my hair back to hip (or a little shorter) but for some reason I really want to try on the flexis with my current length first.

In Transit To Country Los Angeles, CA

Yeah in that case you have to wait. It has been scanned out, and it should get scanned upon arrival in your country:

In Country Amsterdam, Netherlands

That is what happens to all my flexis :)

However for ME the time between those two statuses is between a day and about 3 days, so this is taking a while indeed.

I'd wait until mid next week to make sure you hop well over the weekend, and then mail them if it is still not there.

My haul arrived! The tracking hadn't updated with Globegistics because it wasn't scanned in, but it progressed as normal. I emailed Lilla Rose who checked and found it was in the UK yesterday. I got a card this morning for £30 handling charge and tax, but I calculated it would be that before ordering, so it's all good.

Anyone with weird tracking should try emailing as if orders are lost,we're running out of time for international shipping to allow delivery before the Christmas break.

Am I imagining the XLs are all smaller than a few years ago? The are bigger than my old Ls but all seem smaller despite the sticks being the same length.

In Sweden you're only liable for customs if the total value exceeds 1500 SEK (about 162 USD), so it shouldn't be a problem in my case as my order is only worth 22 USD. I have to pay 25% VAT but other than that i shouldn't get any fees.

Nice haul, enfys! My tracking stopped once my order reached my country a week ago, then...

:bounce:

My order arrived this morning, and it all checks out well! Phew! Actually, I'm stoked! I'm also glad I bought the small sized leather thingies for my ponytails instead of downsizing them. Even though, when laying them on top of my medium metal flexis, they're bigger, once I thread one of my sticks through them they're a tight fit. A squeeze, even, although I get the same squeeze with my normal small flexis. Pics will come in the next few days.

And for comparison, a size medium over the small leather 8, and size mega over the XL leather 8.
Below that are 2 small flexis as viewed from above; the leather one with a Maple Burl stick. Neither give me any wriggle room in a ponytail.

https://i.imgur.com/jpO5HZ4.jpg

All in action apart from the AB U pins for now as my hair was driving me nuts, sticking to my hands waaaaay too much in this humidity. The flattened, hammered ends of the squared U Pin are a little tricky to get in--gently, so no hairs get pulled, but it's light and holds up beautifully (I'd say it's comparable to my Quattro StarLites). As for those leather 8s? They are AMAZING! So light, grip tight and hold like a rock without you knowing they're there. And for ponytails and styles that touch your skin, there's no metal to deal with. They work equally well with acrylic sticks like Ead and ONN, as well as twisty sticks like CM and Mamacats, as well as other wooden sticks like the Maple Burls I've used with my small leather 8s.

Flexi that is being exchanged, the North Star, I just got a partial return in my paypal for shipping the thing to Germany, and I have a new tracking number now for the replacement Flexi.

Wait and see how this is going to go!

I don't know if I got the shipping fee returned because of the note on the return form (told them in no uncertain terms that I was NOT happy with having to pay return shipping for something that is THEIR fault), or because my consultant called them.

Either way, things are rolling again.

Glad your replacement is under way, eadwine!

Mine allegedly shipped on the 6th, but all the tracking information (which ends with "in transit to country") is dated 12 December, and the tracking info for my Cyber Monday purchase hasn't been updated since 30 November (when it was "en route to regional processing facility"). If it doesn't show up by about the middle of next week I think I'll have to contact them and ask what the status is. International tracking information isn't necessarily worth much once the shipment has left the country of origin (I've received more than one parcel which, if one believed the tracking, never actually entered my country!), but for the info to fizzle out before it's even made it past the first stage is definitely unusual.

So they did insist on your sending it back? In my case they said that just this once I didn't need to (though not before I'd made a big fuss about the shipping costs). Perhaps because the flaws in the clip were clearly visible in the photos -- it doesn't really make much sense to incur shipping charges for a clip that they'll probably end up throwing away at their end, after all.

I hope they rethink their current returns policy. I've bought a fair bit of stuff online lately from a number of European mail order places I'd never used before, and in every single case returns were totally straightforward, involved minimal paperwork, and cost me exactly nothing. The contrast with LR couldn't have been greater -- which has done nothing to improve my confidence in LR with a view to making future purchases there. :(

eadwine
December 17th, 2016, 06:21 AM
I didn't press the issue, I simply sent it back like they requested, with my note on the return sheet of course.

But yeah.. it doesn't make sense to me either.

Needless to say this new one will get inspected very closely.

Theobroma
December 17th, 2016, 07:43 AM
I didn't press the issue either -- I'd have been happy to send it back, just not to pay for the shipping -- but I did point out that bulking up the parcel with printouts of all the email correspondence would drive up the shipping rate. It's possible that they'd been getting enough complaints about the procedure by then that they were tired of insisting. :)

The tracking information is still stalled out on "Enroute to regional processing facility" and hasn't been updated since 30 November, but it seems the parcel has been quietly chugging its way across the Pond regardless. What a relief!

I received this reply from Flexi after I wrote to them to say the package had arrived but the tracking info still hadn't been updated:

During the busy season we have found Postal Service is not scanning the packages, however they are being delivered. I am glad to hear your package arrived.

Apparently they are still scanning some of the packages, though, since the tracking info for my Cyber Monday order is complete until the point where it entered my country (on 16 Dec; I received the shipping notice on 6 Dec, but it arrived on the same day as the replacement North Star that was posted a week earlier). After that it seems my local postal service decided it couldn't be bothered to update, but that's nothing new! The customs people seem to be a signally lazy and lackadaisical bunch (either that, or they're scandalously understaffed) because it typically takes several days for parcels to clear customs even when there's no Christmas rush to explain the delays.

Here's a photo of a style I've been trying lately. I wish I had taken photos as soon as I had it done, but I didn't. This is after I came back home.
Anyways, it's fairly easy, like a cinnamon bun, but the hair your twist afters the first loop is braided and pinned down.
This flexi is probably one of my favourites, and I believe it has been discontinued for a while now. I just love the orange, how it looks on my hair. It's also my only xl so its the most comfortable to wear in these styles. I think from now on I will stick yo buying xl and megas only, because as much as I like the look of the smaller ones I just cant figure out how to use them with updos... I could learn new buns too, but still, larger sizes are the most practical for me :D
I think this flexi style is called Simple Band Antique Brass.

How long is your hair, and is it for half-ups or full updos? I think an S might be too small if your hair is past BSL. I'd go with a M in that case, but that's only my opinion. I'd wait until others weigh in first. ;) Oops sorry, hadn't read your post clearly. You said your length clearly! Hmm. I'd get a S, maybe a M.

eadwine
January 3rd, 2017, 02:22 PM
I'd go for the M as well.. S is quite small, and it looks like we have roughly the same hair. Once you can do a small bun you're in the M range. XS is really small, but can be used for a ponytail for instance.

Hey everyone! I really fancy going on a flexi binge, but I'm not sure what the best size for me would be. I have a couple of small/medium ones for half ups but want some for buns, would you guys recommend the XL or the mega? My ponytail circumference is about 6 inches and my length is just scraping tailbone. I'm thinking the XL, but thought I should check with you guys first. :)

KittyBird
January 26th, 2017, 01:45 PM
It depends on the bun, but you can use both XL and mega with your thickness and length. When I had long hair I used XL for centerheld buns like lazy wrap and nautilus bun, and mega for disc bun and figure 8 bun, and the occasional cinnamon bun.

Well, after wayyyy too much consideration, I finally put in an order for three flexi 8s and it qualified for a gift of my choice of a free stick. These will be my first hair toys. I've only used Bobby pins and claw clips.
The sizing and colors were so overwhelming! And some of them have you pick a stick or no stick, which then confused me about whether they come with sticks when not specified. Then I decided they must of course, and some just for some reason have the option of 'no stick'... No idea why. Anyway I can't wait to get them and try them out. I know the flexi 8s will be useful. The stick... I'm not too sure about. Never used one, and I'm not a big fan of full updos on me but it was free. I will post pics when I get them and try them out. :)

Here's a pic of what I ordered! I just pull various amounts of hair back to keep it off my face, sometimes just a tiny strand, or a third of it, and once in awhile I do what they call on the site a tails up. So I wanted a variety of sizes. https://i.imgur.com/NvtdC7w.jpg

My Poinsettias finally arrived. I bought them during that sale when they were going at half price -- one XL and a pair of Minis. Also got a pair of Emerald Joy bobbies at the same time. Very pleased with my haul -- the Poinsettia centre actually looks nicer in person than on the shop photos, and there are no quality issues this time. :)

Just ordered a bunch of flexi clips, I really hope they will stay in my slippery hair.

The shop was a pain to order from though, I don't think I have ever visited a slower site.. My patience got tested for sure :p One of my orders failed as well (I split my order in 3 to avoid customs), but money was still pulled from my paypal... I have contacted them on FB, so hopefully they'll get returned quickly.

Hurray!!! I'm on my first 'hair high' right now. My order just came, and to my surprise, everything, even the stick, is so easy to use for a hair toy first timer! I didn't even know if I had enough hair to use a stick, but it works great. Actually my hair doesn't come undone even when I take the stick out lol. This is 4th day hair that hasn't been refreshed so not my usual texture, but I had to take pics! Sorry for quality, my front facing camera is abominable.

Thank you! Well this was my first bun ever (other than 'messy buns') so I attempted a lazy wrap bun by watching a quick YouTube video. That's funny if it turned into something else!

I think the way I put the stick in changed it from looking like a lazy wrap. I need to learn what angle sticks go in and how to get enough leverage without a painful amount of tension.

And this is your first bun with a stick?! You can be really proud of yourself :) It looks perfect, it holds, success! :)

My Cherish in XL came today! Just in time for our Valentines date (which is tomorrow, because yesterday and today we had no time.) I was worried already and even went looking for it to the post office. It was in the mailbox, must have come today when I was away... at the post office ;) The centrepiece is huge, I love it! I didn't expect it to be so big, it doesn't look so on Lilla Rose's pics. It's too dark for pics today, but I will post them soon :)

Me too!
When I saw it in the shop, my first thought was "no" because... it's a heart, where would I wear it? I though it's not universal and too childish. Secondly, I already have the Crimson Joy clip which is also a big red centre. But the more I looked the more I liked it, and after some time I decided to buy it. I thought I could always wear it for dates with DH :) Or just on any given day, oh come on, why not. Not everything must be classic and universal. So I bought it and I do not regret :) It's lovely. Seeing it makes me happy, so I keep it on my desk when it's not in my hair ;)

I received the sale notice, Eadwine, but almost the only discounted clips seemed to be the vinyl tubing ones, and I'm just not warming to them. I didn't like the look or feel of the tubing on the one and only such clip I tried, and they also seem to run very small, which I'm not keen on either. So I'll sit this one out.

Which doesn't mean I'm missing out on new pretties! I just got lucky over at Lady Idun... :D

For anyone into the leather flexis like the ones I bought last year (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/showthread.php?t=17757&p=3338239&viewfull=1#post3338239), petite spikes from Acrylic Candy Shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/AcrylicCandyShop?ref=l2-shopheader-name) make for good flexi pins.

Coal Mine (https://www.etsy.com/listing/496702134/candy-spike-petite-coal-mine-acrylic?ref=shop_home_active_13) and Milky Way (https://www.etsy.com/listing/505492289/candy-spike-petite-milky-way-acrylic?ref=shop_home_active_12):

Crystawni, I like your sets better than the ones with Liila Rose hair sticks :)

Theobroma
February 22nd, 2017, 11:11 AM
Crystawni, I second Henrietta -- they're very pretty and match the 8's so well! Those particular sticks would be too blunt for me, I think, but I'm not fond of the LR sticks either. For one thing, they seem way too long in proportion to the size of the Flexis.

I have two braided 8's in XL and I wear them with wooden sticks that I turned myself. They're pretty much exactly 5" long and I wouldn't want them any longer than that.

eadwine
February 22nd, 2017, 12:38 PM
You can buy the LR sticks separately. No need to get a set. Look at the hair sticks section.

I have mine from LR and bought a normal size. I don't need to receive radio signals from Mars either :)

Crystawni
February 22nd, 2017, 03:35 PM
Thank you, guys. :blossom: And yes, you can buy the LR sticks separately (so you can mix and match colours and lengths), or in my case, not at all as I already had some I could use. The LR options with the leather 8s were:

No Stick: Use another Lilla Rose Stick or your own
Extra Small 8: Short Stick 90mm / 3.5"
Small 8: Medium Stick 115mm / 4.5"
Medium - XL 8: Long Stick 155mm / 6"

with colour matchups being espresso (black 8 ), maple (beige 8 ) and walnut (dark camel 8 ). Separately, they can be found under "Sticks" here (https://shop.lillarose.biz/MemberToolsDotNet/ShoppingCartv3/MainCart.aspx?PriorNav=ProductDetail_113&PartyID=0&PartyGuestID=0&ReferringDealerID=829991), as eadwine mentioned. The only one I'd use a 6" stick with is my XL leather 8. I have a larger head, so that length doesn't poke out on me, but even that is a bit much if the 8 wraps around a bobbly bun a bit (leaving more stick exposed). I use the small leather 8s pictured with the acrylics for ponytails, so luckily the stick bluntness isn't an issue. I love the way the solid depth of acrylic colour plays well with the saturation of colour in the leather, too. And in my case, acrylic works better in humid and inclement weather compared to wood, and has a nice slide/grip action.

Henrietta, I really do love the Cherish (that sentence sounds wrong already!!!), and your action pic is not helping my resolve to wait until the Black Friday sale near the end of the year. It's so lush looking. :crush:

Crystawni, what should I tell you? :) That it's a good idea to be reasonable, on Black Friday everything will be so much cheaper? Or that it's so many months, so much time to wait... too much time to wait?

A question - If I use a M for a ponytail & center-held buns (pony is loose, I suspect a small would fit better, yet I barely manage to clip an M in most center-held buns) should I go for a L or XL for my buns (non-centerhelds particularly)? I have about a 2.75"-3" pony circumference and am at layered waist, but I do plan to grow longer and it'd be nice to choose a size I can wear now and that I won't totally outgrow anytime soon. Ideally I'd still be able to wear it at CL/FTL if I get there. I'm going to go back through the thread and look for answers/other experiences, but if anyone has specific advice for choosing the proper size I'd love to hear it.

Anyway speaking of ponytails, I ended up in one today when I didn't have time to comb out my bun waves before leaving the house. It surprisingly stayed pretty much put all throughout my errands, which was nice. This is a M bow in the rose gold color.
