Here is my complete collection of Flexi-8s. :D They are XS, S, 2 M:s, L and XL. I love them all, but the XL is my favorite, because it covers a bun very easily and since it's blue it matches most of my clothes perfectly..

Oh, oh, oh!! I'm envious! :(

I got mine today! Now I realize that my hair is much thicker than I initially thought. Reading this thread I started debating if I should have got a small for a half up. I've just played around with them quickly but the medium is perfect for a half up. I'm not quite long enough for a french twist yet, but I think the large will be perfect. I'll post pics once I officially get one in and to show you what I got :D

HildeMV - Oh sorry I didn't mean that the site banned me, my bf has banned me from buying anything because I have been overspending on stuff, especially handbags and hair stuff, LOL. We're trying to save up for a trip, and it doesn't help when I buy $100+ worth of hair stuff plus $150+ worth of bags a month LOL.

Nevertheless I now have three new ones in large (right side the three from top) and two new ones in medium (second and third from down the left side).

It´s a huge difference between some flexis and those with stones. My hair only likes those with stones because it´s so slippery. I only need a large if it´s with big stones otherwize I need XL.Thought you should know.

I am thinking about getting more flexis next time they offer free shipping.

Could someone tell me which size I should get for a ponytail as well as half-ups? My pony circumference is around 2.5"-2.75" (6.5-7.0cm). S for pony, XS for half-ups?

I'm getting ready to place an order myself since I just had my birthday. I think I'm going to get a small, 2 mediums, and 2 larges. I already have an XL from a swap and this convinced me I need more Flexi's. I plan on using the small for half ups, medium for ponies, large for buns and french twists, and XL for buns. I will post pics when I get them all. I can't wait! :cheese:

I have a question. So my hair isnt that long, but a medium won't hold my cinnamon bun. It's way off. Do I get Large or XL?
It's ridiculous really, I'm only a 3 inch circumference and 23 inch long hair but no luck with medium Flexis at all.

I am drooling over the gold one with green beads on the Flexi site. Enablers!! *shakes fist*

I hope someone much similar to your circumference will give you more definite answer. But I have a feeling that your cinnabun might be between L and XL. L is too small, but XL is too large.

My circumference is smaller than yours (2.5-2.75). The current length is 27". I have several large flexis. They are a bit too small to go over my cinnabun. Perfect for a french twist.

I don't own XL, but gathered from other posts and pictures that XL is quite a bit larger than L.

Can you make a nautilus bun (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=466690622319220011)? My medium works perfect for nautilus. Just catch the middle part of the bun with the stick of a flexi and secure.
So if you own a medium and not being used, it might work that way. L size also works fine for nautilus, too.

Well, I am not sure if this helped...

I have a question for the lovely enablers here:D. If my hair is between 3-3.25 inches circumferance, and it is 30.75 inches in length, and the hairs are a medium thickness, what size should I get for a full bun? I was thinking a large or should I go for XL? I have never tried these but they are gorgeous!

I love the Flexi also very only to decorate.

In the films of Bollywood the women carry often for decoration down their whole braid.

I find so beautiful and thought the Flexi am very well suitably around such things to be converted.

Like that I have noticed it am good to have different sizes with same decoration.

I have thick hair also and i use Xl for a full cinnabun and a half up cinnabun (sometimes it just wont all fit in) i use a large for a figure8 and a large would suffice for a french twist although i cannot do one.so i have found that i need both, heres some pics.:)

I'm wondering if any of you who have Flexis could give me some sizing advice. I'm thinking of having DH order me some for mothers day.

I've watched the sizing video and looked at the sizing descriptions on the Flexi site and I'm still unsure of what to order.

My hair is not long yet - just below my collar bone and just under a iii for thickness (my ponytail varies from 3.75 - 4").

I'm mostly at this point would be using them for half ups and french twists. I'm thinking an XS for a half up on me and a medium for a french twist. Does that sound about right?

I have 3 flexi8s, more soon. Right now I have 2 xl and 1 large. I can use the xl for a ponytail (assuming it wasn't blown out) and the large can do a 1/2 ponytail on my regular hair and maybe a whole ponytail on my hair when it's in twists or a twist out.

Yes, I special ordered what I wanted :). I asked for all my flexi's in black nickel with a small flower. I e-mailed back and forth with Deanna until I was satisfied. If there is a design you like or want and it is not shown in the size you want, you can have them do it for you. From what I understand, they also will do an XXL if you want it. E-mail them if you have any questions, and they are very helpful.

Some of my classmates noticed my green XL today. My hair was in an inside out bun. I was surprised, usually no one in real life ever notices my hair! Fun times!

It had sort of gotten messy, and the flexi was in the vertical position, rather than horizontal. I think that maybe that makes them more noticeable.

I have 4 flexis! XS, S, M and L.
I use the large for styles that would generally be held up by a hairstick- like an easy wrap bun, it is the one described as "Princess tiara completes this 'Freestyle' array of colors" and am wearing it right now.
For other types of buns I end up using the medium.
Unfortunately the small and extra small I don't use very often, but I keep them around just in case I find a new style to use them in in the future.

I love Flexi8s. I usually wear an XL, though I can wear a large for half of my hair. Because my hair is cottony, even if I can get away with a smaller size, the larger size is more versatile because my hair will expand to fill the space. For example, here is me using two XL, one for each of two ponytails:

Friday morning I braided my hair, put one tiny Flexi on each braid, then left in the afternoon for Raleigh to visit my mother. I slept two nights in the same braids, and then went to the bus station.

At the bus station I sat in one seat and ate my lunch (or dinner, whatever it was), then moved to another, then stood in line. I felt the left Flexi, then checked the right braid and the Flexi was missing. I ran to the seats I was previously sitting in and it wasn't there. Someone told me that a man who had just gone toward the room that is normally the ticket counter had picked it up.

I asked him and he produced the missing Flexi from a wheel tray cart outside. I dropped both of them in my bag and rode home bare-braided. They are now safely in my hair :)

Piping up with a "me too, SwirlyTresses"! Your hair is exactly what I picture when I think about what hair I'd love to have as opposed to what I've got. :P

ETA: I'm still undecided as to what size Flexi I'd like to try out. It would be for mostly updos, and all of my hair updos, but I don't want to end up with something too small or too large. Maybe the large?

Two pairs. The extra smalls I use for two-sided updos such as a double ponytail or a twist behind each ear; the tinies usually go on my temples to hold stray hairs out of my face.

I'm just wondering if anyone in Canada has any Flexis, and if they do, how long shipping approximately took? It's been two weeks since I ordered mine, and I'm getting worried that they got lost (usually stuff I order from the US gets to me quicker than this). I'm getting impatient darn it! I keep running to the the mailbox after the mail lady comes, like I'm a little kid waiting for Christmas or something. :p

Help! I have been staring at the flexi-8 site for two days now and trying to figure out what size to get!! They give sizes and circumference but from reading this thread, their measurements don't seem all that accurate to me.

Can someone help please?

My hair is about 2.5" in circumference, past APL and fine...

My circumference is 2.5" now. The exactly same as yours! But it's longer.

I use XS for a ponytail, mini for half-up (like my avatar as well as profile pic). Medium or Large for a wrapped bun. But L is a bit too small to go over a cinnabun. Large for french twist.

You might also ask Paper since her circumference might be close to ours. She uses XS for pony like me. Hope this helps!

I can use mini for half up and if I put in more hair, I can use XS too. XS is perfect for pony. Small for twist. Right now, I can use a Medium for a bun. When my hair gets a little longer, I'll probably use a Large.

Does anyone know how often they offer free shipping?

I don't have any flexi's of myself yet, I wanted to try on some sizes first at a meet and tried these of two friends:

Size M (size S was too tight for over a braid but I think it will hold better in a regular pony, to prevent sliding down)
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/4108/fleximk.jpg

And size XXL over en entire bun :-)
http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/7690/flexixxlk.jpg

I also tried XS for a half pony and that fitted perfectly without sliding down. No photo taken unfortunately.

I'm definately going to order these sizes :-)
Will there be new designs soon?
If so I'm waiting a bit longer.

Eresh - The Skull and crossbones was a centerpiece that they had. I had seen it on a mini. You could always ask them if they have anything like that. Also, they might be willing to find it for you. I met one of the Flexi-8 employees at the Patterson Apricot Fiesta (which was similar to a craft fair ) and she was so nice and friendly. Since the XL barely fits around my figure 8 and folded braid, she offered to make me a XXL, running on the large side for a better fit! She also gave me the special craft show pricing and shipped the XXL by priority mail. Great customer service. I'm hoping that I can fit the XXL around a bun like eresh did, but it may not work. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Do the dangles on some of them get caught in the hair at all?

My order seems to have gone missing.... :(

Packages usually arrive from the US to my door within 2 weeks and I have still seen nothing.

Contacted Flexi-8 May 29 and they offered to ship another package if it didn't arrive in a few days (it didn't). So I sent and email saying nothing yet and I asked about alternative shipping methods which would include a tracking number (since the first package could not be tracked), and they haven't got back to me at all.

Does anyone know the best way to contact them? My first message (which they received) was sent through the contact customer service button at the store, and subsequent (unanswered emails) were sent as replies to the email they sent me.

At the moment I have no idea what is happening, if they have gone ahead shipped a new order, or if they are waiting for a reply (and for some reason haven't received my emails), or what exactly is happening. :( I'm going to wait a few days and contact them through the website again, but I am worried I'm starting to be annoying, but I really would like to find out what is going on.

There's a toll-free number on the website, but if you're not in the US that won't do much good. The number on whois is +1.6262857609. Try that.

I just looked at my medium Flexi and one of the ouches is empty. The centerpiece came with thirteen gems in a pattern of one in four in eight. One of the eight is missing. It might be in bed somewhere, as I've slept with it on, but it could just as easily be somewhere else. What should I do?

Thanks Pierre - I may give that a try (I'm in Canada). I'm going to try sending one more email, but through the website "contact us" feature first, but if that doesn't work I'll guess I'll have to call. I keep hoping they will miraculously show up in my mailbox, and that I won't have to keep bugging them (I hate making a major fuss about stuff, and since I don't really know what happened with my order, whether it was never sent for some reason, or it got lost or stolen in the mail, or if it was sent to the wrong address, I don't feel right bugging them about it since they offered to send another order).

Rohele, they have great customer service. So, if you have not received your flexi's then I wouldn't think it would be "bugging" them. They want you to be happy with your purchase and they will want to know if you received your items ok. Even though I don't live outside the U.S., they worked with me and were very patient. I hope you get your flexi's soon and get it all worked out. You will love your flexi's. Have a good day! :)

My ponytail at crown circumference is 4.25 inches. Length is 36 inches. I'm a 2c m/c. I cannot get a large to secure around a french twist. Easy with an Extra large. I can secure an infinity bun with a Large. Just to give you some idea of the sizing.

I vote XL. My hair is very thick (5"+ circumference) and near waist and a XL barely fits on a french twist. It is a definite no-go on a bun unless I stretch it out to make a very oblong bun. They do make XXL as customs! That barely fits over a cinnabun for me.

If you're really unsure, call the number on their website and see if they are going to be at any fairs around you in the next couple weekends so you can try them out in person! They are very nice and accomidating.

I may order a large as the medium is really tight in the french twist and know it is too small for bun. If I can make an up-do with one of these anyone can.

I want to order a few flexis, but I'm unsure of my sizing.

I've watched the videos, and I figure that I'm a medium if I want to use it for ponytails and maybe french twists (which are awesome for keeping my hair away from my neck--god that's ANNOYING sometimes), and a large for my bun, but I'm not entirely sure, and I don't want to waste money.

I have about a 3-3.5 in. ponytail circumference, more if I measure from the top of my head with all my layering. Also, dang them for not having green with silver. Dang them.

Misha

Hi GlassEyes,

I'd guess that you could use a small or medium for ponys, medium for french twists, and depending on your length, large for buns. My circumference is just over 3 inches but about BSL, and I use the small for pony and large for twists (the large is too snug for buns though). Perhaps that gives you a sense of the sizing.

Also - Flexi 8 does take custom requests. You can send them an email explaining what style, color, center-piece and beads you would like, and they may be able to make it for you, they are very accomodating.

I don't know if this helps any with sizing for you, but I'm a similar thickness (3.75" pony circ.).

I ordered a medium and an extra small. The medium holds a "tails-up" for me but is slightly too small for a french twist at my length. It also seems to hold a pony tail (I haven't tried it for very long since I just received mine this morning). I ordered an extra small for a half up, and it holds, but just barely - I probably could have used a small instead - I'll have to do the half ups with less hair when I use it.

I would say the sizing on the site is pretty accurate. I just grabbed the amount of hair I was likely to pull back with each size and measured it. The Flexi site measures by diameter rather than circumference, which is harder to do, so I found a circumference to diameter converter online and used that.

DolphinPrincess
June 19th, 2009, 01:39 PM
GlassEyes - I agree about the medium for a ponytail also. I use a medium for mine, my circumference is about 4", and I can just barely get the medium around it. And definitely email them, my entire last order was custom! You can pick whatever you want pretty much. HTH!

GlassEyes, your flexi may not be to your liking but your hair is fab :)

I just made a Flexi order. Hee. I asked for:

2 minis: one skull and crossbones on silver, and one in gold with green metallic beads and a sea turtle center

1 large: blue AB beads (thanks Akiko you enabler!) with a gold tiger lily center

1 XL for future buns: gold Celtic knot with emerald green beads

I cant wait to see them :)

Would topaz completely be hidden in camouflage??
What does royal blue with silver look like...

Hi Flexi-8 fans! :waving: I have a medium Flexi in antique gold, which I bought several months ago. I wear it quite often.

Recently I notice that some of the gold beads were turning copper-coloured. I emailed to the Flexi-8 people and asked them about it. They said it was the gold-coloured plating wearing off to reveal the copper colour of the bead beneath. I can exchange it for a new one, but I'm not sure about doing this. Won't the new Flexi have the same problem after a while?

Have any of you had this happen to your Flexis? What would you do?

KarenLynn

eresh - you're welcome. :) The flexi-8 in the inside-out bun is a black nickel one. The centerpiece is a round flower-like thing with a clear stone in the middle. I don't know if the freestyle ones vary, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. I have three in different sizes, and they all have different stones.

paper and Pixna - thank you! :flowers: I had some time on my hands today, so I sat down and looked for any style pictures that included a flexi-8. It turned out to be quite a few over the years!

My daughter aged 7, is loving hers too!
Now I just have to wait for a free shipping sale to justify my next purchase.

My tinies, which I wear on my temples, do that. The beads near the ends are showing the undercolor (not copper but grayish). I may get another pair in a different style, but the ones I have, I'm keeping.

My new large Flexi that I got off the swap board. I'm still undecided what I think of it, but it does make it easier to put my hair up to wash my face at night. I was a little disappointed with how cheap it felt, though.

I'm not sure what to call this hair style, but it's somewhere in the territory of a half-figure-8, flipped cinnabun, and a logroll. And my layers are trying to escape and eat the clip.

I just read through all 69 (Yes, 69) pages of this Flexi-8 thread. Now I really, really want one! I'm planning to get (eventually) a small to use for a ponytail, so I'll damage my hair less than a band. Also to have something a little dressier for special occasions when I still want to wear my hair in a ponytail. :) My ponytail is 3 inches around, fine in texture and curly. I'm hoping a small will be just right. :eyebrows:

After reading this thread I decided to give the Flexi-8 a try, so got an assortment of sizes, up to large. They arrived yesterday and I've tried the mini and the large. The mini held the hair around my face back very well, comfortably, for several hours. I then went and got the large to see how it would hold a bun while I walked the dogs. I made an inside-out type bun, and the large Flexi held the center of it very comfortably and securely.

I'm so glad to have found some sort of barrette that I'm willing to wear. These don't feel like they will damage my hair, the reason I stopped using barrettes years ago. Maybe now I'll start wearing some of it down now and again.

This might be a stupid question, but what are these actually made out of? Are they metal? Can you wear them in the shower, to keep your hair up on non-wash days?

I know my hair's really short now, but eventually it will be long enough to use these and I'd like to have a good idea of how I could.

Thanks!

Sorry eresh, I don't have any pictures yet. Long story, but it comes down to no camera to get good ones, just the cell phone which takes lousy pictures.

I liked the Flexi's so well I've ordered a few more. A few more of the mini's to hold the hair around my face back, mediums to make a pony tail and one of the huge monster (extra large) ones to go around most of my bun. The medium ones can hold an inside-out bun, and the large can hold up some of the narrower shaped 'do's. The new order will give me a couple of sets of mini's with mediums of the same style so I can hold the top part back with the mini and then have a nice tail with the medium below it.

Nice to be able to coordinate the Flexi's with my work clothes, too.

I just got mine yesterday. It is the extra small and holds my hair in a ponytali just right for now. I can only get about half my hair into the ponytail due to all the layering so I will need a bigger one when the layers grow out.

It is very comfortable to were and also very pretty. I really like it, and looking forward to getting more in the near future. :)

I want to order a couple but I am wondering which size I should get? I use L ficcares to hold all of my hair or for peacock twists, but my buns are still rather small.. for example (http://www.septemberpixie.com/lj/hair/IMG_4017.jpg), but I was thinking L or XL? I'm curly but my hair is not thick at all and its got layers. I plan to grow to at least classic (without layers) so just need some advice :)

Iylivarae
July 28th, 2009, 12:57 PM
I think it depends on what kind of hairstyles you plan to use your flexis. I do use large ficcares, too, and I use a L flexi for holding log rolls, figure-8 buns and stuff like that. If I want to secure a cinnabun with a flexi, the XL is almost too small for my bun.

I hope that helps?

Cherry_Sprinkle
July 28th, 2009, 01:03 PM
I guess I would be using them for cinnamon buns, infinity buns, some braided buns mostly.. your hair is quite a bit thicker than mine, so how big of a part does thickness play in holding them up? My ponytail is about 2 3/4" around if that helps? :)

I think if your hair is thinner than mine, then a XL could probably be too large. I just tried it again (haven't done it in a while) and I can still get my whole cinnabun in the XL. I am not yet at classic, though, but between tailbone and classic. My circumference is probably around 3 3/4 again, so... I think it is hard to find the right one for you. I did order 2 L and one XL, and I use all three from time to time. I think you should maybe go for an L and then see how it works. If it is too small for a cinnabun, you can still hold the inner part of the cinnabun and fix the ends with some kind of amish pins, and you could also use the L for other updos. I am really not sure if the XL is not too big for you.

Hope that helped?

I got my first Flexi-8s today! They're lovely and seem easy to use. I received them really quickly too -- I placed the order on the 22nd and received them 8 days later, which is quite fast for US to Japan.

http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/picture.php?albumid=3509&pictureid=46193

My size estimates were mostly about right. Mostly. For reference, my low ponytail is about 9 cm (3.5 in) and I have heavy layers starting at around SL. About half my hair is BSL or shorter.

I thought I could use the XS for half-ponytails but it's not large enough. That's okay, I can use it to clip small sections on the side. I'll give it another try after I've had my bangs trimmed.

The M works for a regular ponytail. Finally I can stop using scrunchies! My hair's not as thick as some people on this forum but still, I've never had any luck finding barrettes which will hold my ponytail.

The L currently works for a twist and the XL for a cinnabun. I expect I'll have to go up a size for each in a year or so as my layers grow out.

Looks like I'll "need" to place another order sometime for an S and maybe some more Ms and XLs. :inlove:

I love my flexi-8s! I only have four of them but I am looking forward to adding to my collection. Definitely more stylish then my scrunchies that I always used to wear. I have a mini, xsmall, small and medium.

I wish I had ordered two of the same minis, then I could have used them as barrettes for my sides. But I have had them since last year and I don't see the one that I have, otherwise I would get another to match. So I don't use my single mini all that much.

The xsmall and small I can use for half-ups. The small and medium I can use for ponytails.

Wonder what size I would need for a full-up? Large or Xlarge?

Okay I was so excited to receive my flexi 8 today. I ordered a XL and a large. I know I have thick hair but I had no idea how thick until I put it in a bun and tried to get my XL flexi closed. It didn't even come close and my hair is only bsl and in long layers! I see some of you have XXL flexis so I emailed the company to see if I can return my second order that's on the way for a two XXL. I don't know why they don't sell XXL on their website. My second order I got a small and medium. I was thinking they would fit for updos twist etc. but the large fits perfect for those.

I need to cheer myself up, so I'm staring at the Flexi-8 site again...
I want an extra M ... but I can't choose.

Does anyone have a jonquil? In hair picture maybe?
I'm doubting between the jonquil and an openflower center with AB beads or the antique brass princess tiara with AB

Wait... they have XXL?? I can barely get an XL to work, I have to kind of hair-stick weave the spindle part through only a part of the bun to make it close. Wow, I should look into getting an XXL.

eresh: I haven't seen it yet, but I picked up a jonquil off the swap board recently, and was told the yellow color is greenish - near-chartreuse. This appeals to me, though I don't know if it will to you.

Sounds nice!
I wonder if it will be visible on my haircolour.
Amethyst becomes invisible, so dus standard light blue (unless it has AB)

Found a picture on page 51!

Size large, celtic knot with jet black beads. I also have a small for ponytails, but I don't use it much, as it tends to snag. I can just barely close it, maybe that's why?
Anyone else have trouble with them snagging in ponytails or is mine just too small? I need an excuse to order again anyway, as I'm outgrowing the large one too. ;)

Gorgeous! I wear my hair exactly like that every day for work. :) I even have a flexi just like that one, but it is an XL.

Sorry, no advice on the ponytail, I never wear my hair like that.

I use mine for ponytails. I think you might need a bigger size if its snagging. My hair is shoulder length and the extra small snags but the small is really comfortable and holds perfectly.

I ordered a couple to try them out. I put up a basic ponytail. When taking it out, some strands of hair got stuck between beads! Ack! Wondering how I went wrong there.

I love all of them!! I will be in the market for a new flexi-8.... in a large, maybe even extra large. I want to know how you were able to get the one w/ the blue aurora borealis/dragonfly. Did you place a special order? I really really like the XXL ....but would only need a L or XL.

Thanks for sharing! I need to post a pic of my hair in my flexi-8's one of these days.

WOOOOHHHH (I'll say beforehand: sorry, I'm all hyper)

Hihi, ooh I'm so happy.
I tried them all out today with various hairdo's and all sizes work very well.
Only the colour amethyst in the S is not really good in my hair, it's invisible, so I know that for next time, no amethyst.
The customs were exactly as I had imagined them!
I'm already looking forward for when they have new designs!

To spare you all here I'll post the (MANY) flexi+hairdo pictures in my blog.
Otherwise it's too much I think.

Yes the dragonfly/blue AB beads was a custom order, the XXL too.
You can ask them if it is possible what you'd like, it's 0,95 cents extra for a custom order.
I'm waiting for 2 new M's to arrive here :cheese:

Yes, you do need another one....or five.

I need more, too. Some mediums for low ponytails and some xl for updos, oh, and maybe some sm or xs for half-ups.

Has anyone ever glued anything to one that is naked in the center, like an old brooch or pin?

I've apparently owned a Flexi-8 for quite a while and never knew it. I was never really into hair toys until recently. I still don't have many... one pair of hair sticks, some hairagami sticks, a few hair clips, a french comb... but that's changing!

Anyway, here's a picture:

http://www.snowdragon.org/stuff/flexi.jpg

I got this probably in 2002 at Hot Topic. I really got into fantasy stuff at that time and was on the lookout for fantasy-looking hair jewelry. Unfortunately, I couldn't make a good bun then, and using it as a ponytail holder never occured to me.

Now I think I can put it to good use.

PSA for Southern California Flexi-8 lovers or those travelling to So Cal over Labor Day Weekend. There will be a Flexi-8 booth at the Orange International Street Fair. I had called for information about ordering and they mentioned they'd be at the fair and since I live very close by, I'll be checking it out.

The Fair runs Friday-Sunday - always lots of food and crafts there. Happy Shopping.

I ordered a couple of flexi-8's, a small and a medium, hoping they would work for my slippy hair.

I don't think I'll be able to use them "structurally". They just slide slowly down until something catches - usually one hair (ow!).

Very pretty, though.
