Ladies I need help, I got 2 mini flexies to put myfront hair back, they are gorgeus but they break my hair :((((((((((

Also I still dont manage them wery well, I think since they are so tiny they are kind of complicated (and I suck at it hahhha), but do you know if there is a way of preventing the hair getting stuck in between the beads and breaking? :( does this just happen to me? Is it because I have no practice?

Ahh that's a shame, the sticks would look fabulous in your hair :) You tend to wear Ficcares mostly don't you? Or am I making that up in my own head?

Flexis mostly anymore. If I"m not wearing a flexi, I'm probably wearing a Ficcare.

Flexis rarely snag/break my hair but some of them do catch a few hairs while others do not. Are you trying to squeeze too much hair into it, or removing it too quickly?

butter52, I had some hair break at first, and it was because I wasn't checking the stick was clear of hair before pushing it through the 8. Now, I feel to see if the hair is clear of the notches first before I push it through the 8.

And I unhook it to remove rather than pull it out, like I think Kaelee is suggesting.

The one with the fairy centre does catch my hair every time though

I think the new FOTM is very pretty, but again, too much silver. I ordered two size L Fairy flexis instead, because those will look super cute in double buns!

ya maybe Im puting too much hair... I got a mini because my hair is pixied and very layered and just wanted to put the front back, but Im starting to think I needed an XS.
But the hair is not breaking because of the stick, I open the stick carefully but allways 3 or 4 hairs are stuck in between the beads or between beads and the center piece, I try to take it out gently but hell its stuck and some break really badly :(
maybe Ill just wait till my hais is longer and ill use it for braids...but they are so pretty :(

Hmm, sorry to hear that :( Which one do you have? I only use minis for braid ends.

You could try lace braiding the front to one side & fixing off at the end there? like this... it works for pixie, was my go-to for a long time :D and I think it would look very cute with a mini flexi fixing off the braid just above/behind one ear http://www.sheknows.com/beauty-and-style/articles/980889/how-to-lace-braid-hairstyle-tutorial (You might be able to get a smoother chunk of hair going into the flexi that way if it's very layered.)

Minis hold a ridiculously tiny amount of hair. I would think an Xsmall might be better. That's what I use for half ups.

They really should take action shots of the flexi's or at least with a darker background. I didn't look twice at the fairies, but now that I see them in Kittybird's double bun, they look amazing! KittyBird, those double buns are so cute! Very good idea to combine them like that.

I just received some new flexis myself! I got two megas and three smalls. The megas are still a bit large for me, but I intend to grow into them. :P Meanwhile, the smalls are a bit smaller than I hoped. I wanted to be able to squeeze my entire ponytail into them, and while it does sort of work, I think the fit is somewhat too tight. Luckily they'll still work for half-ups!

I took pictures of one of the megas and one of the smalls. They're not very high quality and the lighting is kind of bad, but still:

O P I makes one that would be a gorgeous "Black Pearl". Unfortunately, I don't remember the color name. I was oggling it the other day at a hair salon where I took a short haired friend for a trim. ;)

UPDATE: I checked OPI and found it. It's "Peace and Love". It's a bit hard to see in the pic but it pearlesces green and purple.

I definitely saw a difference is my hair quality when I stopped using pony holders and started bunning and using flexi's. I don't have any small enough for a pony holder, and my hair is at the point where a pony just doesn't cut it any more. I'll probably use the on my daughter when her hair gets thicker/longer.

Selkie, I LOVE that. I wish I could fishtail.

I have thick hair approaching TB length. I haven't put in my hair type in profile as sometimes unsure.
This link shows an old pic of my hair and I wondered if you could tell me what size Flexi-8 you think I would need for up do. I figure a large or medium? I want it to fit securely. Also if you can tell me what sizes for half up and ponytail.
I have been lax on taking measurements! I've been more interested in growing it out and learning all the fabulous tips from LHC.
If you can help, I'd appreciate it as I can't wait to purchase my first flexi-8. :)

Komao, a large would probably work best for you for center-held buns. Do you know the circumference of your ponytail? That'll help with a ponytail size.

Komao, if it helps, I can *just* squish my hair into a medium flexi for a centre-held bun. Large is too large, though. Ponytail circ about 3.25" so very average. I would imagine you would need a large, unless your hair compresses a lot?

Komao, in my opinion you might need an extra large or a mega. Your hair looks very thick and long in the picture. I use a large and my pony circumference is only 3" to 3.1" and length is only 29".

Komao--- I have a 4 inch pony circumference and past tailbone hair. I can just fit a center-held bun into an extra-large, and for any other bun I need a mega. The mega is slightly big on me, but it will still hold comfortably for several hours.

My circumference is 3", and my length is 27" (just over BSL), and a medium is tight for center held, but a large holds comfortably. I think a small would work best on me for ponies, if that helps you at all. Also, if you order the wrong size, they're really good with returns within the given time space (30 days). Its a slight hassle, but its worth it when you find the size that works for you.

Komoa - my hair is thick and waist-length and I use a medium for ponytails and an extra large for centre held buns - the large flexi is not big enough. Your hair is thick so I suspect you might need an extra large for buns.

Today's style - French braid tucked and held with flexi. Excuse the wonky French braid - I am still learning how to do this braid. :o

Thanks girls for all the advice. I already ordered a medium. If it doesn't fit for a center bun I'm hoping I can use it for 1/2 up.
If not as ARG says, I can exchange it. I love the look and how securely everyone says the clip holds, so I'll be real happy and find out my correct sizes. My pic might have been a bit deceptive. Perhaps I should not have said my hair was thick. I almost forget that as everyone always tells me that it's so thick. I think rather it's fine but in great abundance. One of these days, soon, I'll get my hair type figured out. It sure will help when purchasing hair toys. My sister has thick and very heavy hair. Mine isn't that heavy feeling. So perhaps the medium will just fit? Have to see.
Selkie your braid looks beautiful. I love your flexi! I also love that style. It can look sophisticated or just so cool and pretty. :o

I wore my first flexi today! Received it about a week ago, a Cosmic moon and sun in size L. Shipping was super fast, only a week from the US! (Actually arrived faster than packages I bought from the UK at the same time, haha..)

Anyway, it was smaller than I expected when I held it in my hand, but it fits my buns nicely, so thanks for the sizing help I got here!
I had a bit of a hard time getting it to sit right in my bun, so it's straight and doesn't pull.. It's heavier than other toys I own. Also, I'm still not sure it's quite my style.. :p it's so blingy, even if it's pretty plain but the silver makes it stand out and look more like jewelry than my other hair toys (wood and acrylic). Maybe I'll get used to it.. I still have a weak spot for the dream catcher design, if I will ever buy another flexi it will be that one!

I have a stupid question. I have a large and a extra large flexi and I am not able to do the disc bun what is the way to do it. Or it's me that is not that good with buns. That is a possibility to. Here are picture with my large one ( the paw) and my xlarge(the flower). Hope I can find out. Or should I buy a mega but I think it would be to big for me.

The website doesn't have a lot of the flexis now in size medium. Is it a normal occurrence because they are just making more? Still debating on whether to order some! (If the styles come back in that I like.)

Ooh thanks! They don't seem to have much info about shipping and returns (not that I'd really want to return anything, just in case something was broken.) Ah, yes it doesn't say much about returns for international customers- I just slightly assumed that it would be as good as flexi 8 (which I have found to be very good).

I have ordered from Lilla Rose once, when they opened it up to international customers recently. Everything went smoothly. I also recently ordered the calla lily in M and L, and made two separate orders to keep each one under £15 so that I don't have to pay stupid handling fees and wait an extra 3 weeks for the privilege of doing so :) I think it works out best that way unless you're ordering about 5 or more.

It works great for half do and I can make it work for up do but I will order a large next time for that as a little tight but not impossible. I ordered the Charming Rays of Sunshine and very happy with it.

I've ordered from both flexi and Lila Rose. The payment options are less flexible via the Lila Rose website, but otherwise it was fine for me, shipping to the UK.

I keep my flexis (and most of my hair toys) in clear plastic boxes I bought from eBay. Keeps them tidy, and they are stackable.

Yep, the July FOTM is highly American! When I read your posts before I saw it, I thought it might do for Brits too (Union Jack being the same colors) and for France (tricolor also being red white and blue) but I see it won't! Bummer.
You guys could always order customs though in orange or with black, yellow and red. Or create your own beaded hairtoy, like I did with this one before realizing that flexi would get patriotic, too. I think I have to get one of theirs anyway, though--I love how they did our flag in theirs. Like Kherome said, it IS an american company (rarer and rarer thing nowadays).

I'm sure none of the international customers were in any doubt where the company is based. The shipping costs and taxes and customs charges and handling fees often involved in buying hairtoys from America ensure that we all know where our toys are coming from.

If people look forward to seeing the flexi of the month, it is perfectly valid to be disappointed that this month's is no good to anyone outside of the US.

Of course, Kaydana. No offense was meant. I know customs and taxes and so forth are sore point with Europeans and didn't mean to tread on any toes. I am sorry you guys are disappointed and I know you can also understand why the American customers of an American company would be happy to have a clip celebrating a holiday which is very special to us, even if I clearly did not express this in the most tactful way possible. Certainly hope next month is a better month for you internationals with the FOTM.

This! I had to quickly drop by and say I too will be buying one to celebrate American pride, especially for all the emigrants to this country. Give this American company a break with all the bickering about international this or international that. I'm definitely happy that Lilla Rose takes pride in celebrating America and of being an American company as it really makes me reflect and value the country I live in. Like what has been mentioned in here they do customs and you can always send them beads and centerpieces which has been done many times before, or make a more unique and special one like what Chen has made. rags also points out that there could be another one, as that has been done before with the sun piece (I forget the name). OK back to work for me! Oh and Salty I also agree with you in that I don't want a full size one for buns. I think i'll get a medium for a ponytail because i'm going to wear my hair down and free to symbolize freedom "..of religion,...." ha ha had to throw in parts of our First Amendment which I love, but continues to be tested....

I would SO buy that one two_wheels is describing. I was originally a British citizen (from a colony) and I still can't drink coffee, love my tea. (Darjeeling used to be my favorite, still love the taste but its a bit strong now for me as I age--and I'll stop here before TMI). And Her Majesty is one of my heroes. I would so buy a cameo with her face on it, long live the Queen!
I look forward to seeing your teacup flexi, Kaydana, I always love your art.
Also, I do think an orange flexi would be attractive, also. I have some homemades with orange beads in them, and I painted a couple of fakkares orange, too--great color.

You can always wear Old Glory, not just for the 4th! Especially when its so pretty as that flexi. I bet that will be collectible in future.
and if you don't want to wear it any old day, there's always Memorial Day and Veterans Day and there is such a thing as Flag Day (June 14) and if you want to borrow from other countries whose flags are also red white and blue, Bastille Day is coming up on 14 juillet...

I think I wear the dragonfly and the 2 blue/gold lily ones the most, but I also really love the green/celtic knot one. It's just my hair is at an awkward length for XLs right now - they're too big for centerheld buns, but too small for full buns.

My hair is short-ish, so I do a lazy wrap and just catch the centre (i.e. the near half of the wrapped circle bit) with a medium flexi. Holds great but I'll soon outgrow the M, I think, as I have to compact the hair quite hard now to fit it all in. I'm nowhere near the L, though!

Center-held knot bun, it is actually really similar to a lazy wrap.

I ordered my first flexi yesterday, now impatiently waiting for it to arrive! I got a large with a treble clef on it...I am still a little confused as to size because I have a lot of fairly thin hair so I have a hard time classifying it. I go back and forth between thinking the large will be to small and if it will be too big, I guess I will just have to patiently wait lol!

Hey, I can't always see pictures when people post...I seem to remember seeing something about having to have 25 posts before you see all pictures. Does that make any sense? Do you have another thought? I want to see all the pictures so I can figure out what to do with the toys as I buy them!

I found a few flexis that I absolutely adore over on lillarose...erg! But trying to be completely certain what size I need is a real pain. I figure if I get one size too big, I can always grow into them, maybe? I really want to do cinnabuns, braided buns, etc, so I figured a large might be my best bet. But I want to make sure. (There's a picture of my braided bun in one of my albums with a TT stick if that gives anyone an idea) I've gone back and forth between medium and large.

I just realized that my photo probably looks like a lefty Flexi because my camera flipped it. But it is a righty one. I agree that asking if they would do a custom is your best bet.

I got the advice on here to measure the diameter of my bun, and then compare that to the size of the pin. For example, my usual bun is around 4 inches across, and I went with the XL (which has a 5.25 inch pin). That turned out well for me. Lilla Rose does exchanges and returns though, which you could always take advantage of.

@ maborosi - I bought a medium one from the swap board (shipping gets almost the prize of the flexi to over here >.< ) and it is good for my buns (but I still have place for a bigger one, won't be needing a large any time soon), but can't hold a peacock twist or any half-up (that's why I would like to try a small one). If that is of any help for bun size - medium ficcare is a bit too big for me.

I used a twig and cut it to the various sizes of the flexi pins, then just used it like a hair stick to check what size I would need! Sounds strange but it definitely worked.

Thanks for the sizing suggestions- it seems that my bun's about 3.65" across. The medium pin measures 3.75". If I want to keep my flexi for a long time, should I just stick with my gut and go with the large? I see some people don't mind the pin sticking out a little bit. I don't either, I actually like the look.

I just put in an order for my first two and am looking forward to playing around with them. Honestly, I have no idea what size I am getting. My sister is a consultant and last time I visited her, she did my hair with one. So when I decided I was ready to spend money on it, I called her up and said, "you know what sizes I need better than I do," then requested one for fluffy hair days and one for tamer hair days. I'm getting the copper rose design and left the second design up to her.

If I were you, I would definitely go with the large. The medium might be too small already; I find that I can't use Flexis that are a really tight fit. My fine hair gets caught in the beaded portion if I have to work to stuff it all in. And don't forget, you can exchange it if it doesn't work!

The medium will be far too small. So will the large, unless you're only doing centre held buns. I think you'll need an extra large. The flexi stick has three notches, for buns it usually needs to be on the one furthest from the tip or maybe the middle, the usable length of the stick for the extra large when it's on the "bun" notch, is about 3.5", to the middle notch it's about 4". That will almost certainly be the best option for you if you've measured your bun accurately.

Great info, kaydana! That's much more helpful. I didn't even think about the usable length. Come to think of it, maborosi, your bun is only 0.35" smaller than mine, and I like the XL. So do consider that one, like kaydana said!

Hmm, the new FotM is not for me.
I'm not into the nautical theme.
My wallet is thankful LOL

I love the new FotM :) Also, I've realised that large is now better than medium, and all my flexis are medium. Perfect excuse?

Aww, thank you so much, StellaKatherine. I dote on my two cats and was happy to find a cat thing for my hair. :D

Kaelee, if you happen to see this, was your recent July FOTM action shot a large?

Yes it was! I haven't checked this thread in a while, but I did happen to see this post!

I'm totally stuck on what size to get. I have a 4.5" pony without my bangs (I am a mop head!) but my hair is almost but not quite BSL. I'm torn between the medium and the large.

Always go larger, you can exchange it if it is the wrong size. But I promise you - they are smaller than you think they are!!

Plus, aren't you growing? A large will last longer. :o

I'd get a large. I'm nearly at BSL, my pony is 3.25" and I used a medium. I do have a small that still fits but the medium looks more like the correct size for me.

On another note, my second flexi from the US arrived this morning!

I did it :) then I realised 2 minis would be so cute with pigtails when I go on holiday. Did that also. Oops.

I have 3.25" pony, am at APLish, use flexis in centre held buns, and L has just become better than M for me. I vote go large!

What size of flexi would I need ? I did a loose cinnamoon bun and measured the lenght from one side to the other going over the bun at it was about 6 inches...

Personally, I think flexi's are difficult to use with cinnamon buns... I use them with LWB and disc buns. But I say get a mega at that size! :p

If I wear my sticks usually holding as a central, would it be then L in flexi ?

It says this " Our extra large was designed for the Up Dos. When you watch the video of the Extra Long hair style you can see how this is used. Those with very thick hair (large ponytail size) can also use the extra large for the Up & Down or French Twist styles. Extremely rare will someone use the extra large for a ponytail. Those who use the mini, extra small, and small sizes will never need an extra large. " . My ponytail would be S by the size chart. Hmm... I am totally confused hehe

I say Mega cinnamon bun, XL for LWB or disc bun. I don't use them for cinnamon buns but I just experimented and my XL flexi's would not reach across one. Large flexi's are much smaller than you think. I'm only waist and can't use them any more. If you are uncertain, I would order several sizes to experiment you can always rehome them.

Or try this. Put a stick in a LWB and measure the part that is covered. Compare that to the flexi site. (https://www.flexi8.com) It lists the lengths of the pins on there, that should give you a good starting point. Remember you should have some flexi stick showing at either end because it will have to compensate for the clipping part and for the part attached to the 8.

Me wearing a XL in a braided disc bun, the pin is 5.25" long

There is a regular disc bun, another XL flexi

Both old pics, sorry don't have time to take new ones today.... :p

ETA - I can use Medium for a ponytail.

You are so sweet for helping me out! :flower: Flexis look stunning in your hair ! :crush: I would say your bun does look much bigger than mine... I cantt order many sizes as I would need then to pay lots of customes :( I will try to measure the stick inside my bun ;)

Do you have to pay customs if you get them from Germany? Cultmate sells flexis. Might be easier to return them, too.

No, I do not need to pay customs inside EU :) But 1. they have no size L at all 2. they do not have the new nautical flexi 3. actually it is cheaper to order from US . I can order one flexi without needing to pay for customs, but not more than that . Wish I could be 100 % sure about the size I need. I do have long hair, but I feel my buns are not in any way big...

Oh, I didn't know they had run out of L  Yep, if your heart is set on the nautical, I guess you have to order them from Lilla Rose.

I order mine separately too, it is cheaper that way for customs, I think I worked out I'd have to order more than 5 for it to work out cheaper combined. And even then, I'd rather pay £1 or £2 more and not have them held up for a month by the customs office.

In Finland it is: if the order + shipping cost is more than 22 euros , you need to pay 24 % customs :( Two yeas ago it was 45 euros maximum, but they lowered the limit  And for me 24% is kinda a lot of taxes.

two_wheels, you were wearing an L yourself in flexis ?
