Allie_snowflake, this had happened to me recently, had got a defective Flexi through Lila Rose. One loop was a bit larger than the other, just like yours. The stick on the one I received didn't reach the other end. At first glance I realized it was a defective piece, so I didn't even try it. It was eadwine who suggested that I contact my consultant, and I did. It's quite easy to get it exchanged or returned for another one of our choice. They will email you the details and we need to follow through. Only last week did I sent my defective piece back, waiting for the replacement now.

ETA: The defective piece I rec'd is the same one like yours "Victorian Inspiration".

Here's a pic. The top is the back where I can see a loop of wire coming thru the centerpiece's loop. The right sided loop definitely looks stretched. Are they made with two independent loops or if one is stretched, the other contracts? I hope I didn't ruin it.

Interesting! Maybe it's not just me. Haven't tried my other two. Thanks Duchess67. I'll send it back. Glad I didn't break it!

I've got a couple that do this, as well as 2 that have uneven loops cause they're missing a bead on one side.
I honestly wouldn't worry about it - I wear mine like this all the time, no problems - though it couldn't hurt to email Steve

I'm very excited that Lilla Rose now ships outside the US, I've spent the last couple of days browsing their site trying to choose which ones to order first!

Oh dear, that is exciting! But also bad news for my bank balance :(

It really looks to me as though you could fix this by bending the loops back into a more circular shape. I saw a video tutorial once where someone showed how to make a Flexi a little "smaller" for a more snug fit, and basically you just pull carefully outwards on the loops to make them rounder. That shortens the width of the clip and should get yours to fit the pin again. You could also bend it a little in the other dimension so that it curves away from the pin a little. I do that with all my new flexis as they always arrive completely flat and I think they look, and fit, better when they're more three-dimensional. At any rate, I doubt you need to exchange this clip!

Well, I have placed an order for 4 flexis from Lilla Rose, which I think was very restrained of me, considering...
One M, two L, and one XL, as each size works for different styles for me. Now I just have to try to be patient while they ship here from the US!

Hah, my XL paw flexi has this same thing. It seems to work just fine though, and since shipping it all the way back would be such a hassle and it does work without a problem, I don't think it's worth sending back. Thought I probably would if I lived in the US.

That is a thought. And yes, you can totally adjust flexo size that way!

Flattening it makes the pin even further away from the ring where it should touch. Making it more O makes the difference even more noticeable still. If logistics isn't a problem I'd still contact Steve.

A majority of the time when I insert my flexi into my hair, I hear hairs breaking. More than when I use my sticks/fork. Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone else have that problem? It's not that my bun is too tight either.

Love that flexi Autumn_Fairy! the colors of the beads look great with your hair!

I decided to try and tweak the flexi. The other two work fine. I think the center is a little stiff on the Victorian inspiration and it wasn't "flexing" too well. Here's one of the other ones. Nice fit :) I think I just had to get used to them. Using them right handed is a bit awkward and I end up with the bun spilling out the top or bottom. I'm getting better!

Oh, nice butterfly flexi, Allie!
I got my three flexis and my key necklaces (from etsy) today. In a way it's too bad I didn't get them tomorrow, as it's my birthday then. ;) I still have a few packages coming my way, so hopefully at least one of them will come tomorrow!

Super fast shipping from lillarose! I took a picture of all my flexis together, I will probably post them in this thread later on today. :o

I just wanted to ask if it's common that a bead is missing from a flexi that you buy? I thought that my Lovely Circle Pink flexi looked a tad imbalanced (that one half looked slightly bigger than the other) and today I realised that it was missing a small bead. :hmm: It's not very noticeable, though, I mean, I had to search for it in the first place... :P But still!

On a sidenote, I simply have to ask a consultant about the December '13 FOTM... It's probably my second favourite after Flitter into Fall. :crush:

I too got a flexi from LR that was kittywaumpus. I sent it back. I know it is still useable but I figured that I paid for a "perfect" hair toy, not one that is off kilter. I think if I ever sell it it will definitely affect it's value/sell-ability so back it went and a new perfect one was sent out.

Either way, I promised a pic of all my flexis. Couldn't quite get the light right, but at least you see them somewhat clearly here. ^_^

Wosie, I had also rec'd a Flexi like you mentioned from Lila Rose. When we contact Lila Rose, they will email us a pre-paid label and we need to follow the instructions. It is free to mail within US, but I had to pay for postage to mail the defective Flexi back. Like Kherome mentioned, we paid for a perfect Flexi, and if it is not why keep it. I wasn't happy so I sent it back for a replacement.

Love all your Flexi's, Wosie! Beautiful collection!

Thank you both for the kind words about my flexis! :o Two of them are medium sized and the other five are large, I reckoned it'd be smarter to pick the size I kinda have to grow into.

My DBF thinks that the shipping cost to US would be pretty high, so I doubt I'll send it back. He's guesstimating the price to be about half the price I pay for a flexi. ´:/

Hi everyone does anyone know where I can find the FOTM list? I have three FOTM's I want to sell but I am not sure if they're from 2013 or 2014. I know one is called Emerald Dream and the other one is from last winter. Im not sure if it's September, October, or November. A list would be helpful. Thanks :D

I found a list of the 2013 FOTMs (http://ourbusyhomeschool.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Flexi-of-the-Month-set-2013.jpg). If you do an image search for Lillarose flexi-8 of the month 2012 or 2011, you'll get pictures of many different FOTMs. You may be able to find yours :)

Hi fellow Swede with Flexi problems! Several years ago when I ordered my first Flexis I got one that had some defects. I contacted Flexi about it and they were kind to send me a new one without cost or me sending the original one back. I later on sold the wonky one as defect and for a much lower price to someone who wanted to try them out before taking the plunge and ordering from the US.

Isilme} Hello there! :D You were very lucky to get a new flexi free of charge, sadly I'm not as lucky. The lady I wrote to said that I could either glue the bead back on if it was lying in the bag it came with (I think she misunderstood) or send it back to get a new one. Ohwell... I think I'll just have to live with it, luckily it's not a noticeable bead that's missing, it's one of the ones that are right next to the pin itself. Still irksome as I'm a perfectionist and I get annoyed when something is imbalanced, no matter how little!

I will still, however, get a December '13 FOTM, that's for sure.

I'm wearing mine today. :D I started using the stick to open up the loop on my nautilus/lwb (what's the difference? I never could figure it out ) and even though it looks exactly the same, that's working a lot better for me than opening the loop up with my fingers like I was before, for some reason. Way more comfortable.

My scalp has been a real bear this week, oversensitive to EVERYTHING. It seems to be tolerating this well though. Yay!

I never had issues with that when I still had my Dreamcatcher (sold it a while ago). The danglies are very short and there's not much for the hair to get stuck on. I consider that one to be one of the safe dangly flexi-8s ;)

KittyBird that looks perfect in your hair!

I have the Dreamcatcher Flexi, it is one of my favourites. The danglies never get caught on my hair in buns, I think because they are fairly short and the end is pretty much flat metal rather than beads, so nothing for hair to tangle on.

Maybe you can ask the same solution, it is not your fault after all if a flexi has a fault.

It seems to me that if you email flexi directly they have much more options to solve a problem than if you contact a consultant.
or am I wrong?

I think it depends on the consultant. They may need to contact LR themselves and find a solution for you, or you might wind up shipping it back to them and they will handle the return (which wouldn't save you on shipping.) I think it would depend on the consultant, how far they're willing to go etc. But I would say your best bet is to contact LR directly, especially if you didn't buy from a consultant to begin with. Consultants can't help as much if the clip wasn't bought from/through them in the first place.

ETA: Also, Kittybird, that clip looks fantastic! Especially with your hair! (of course I think anything would look fantastic with THAT HAIR! :thud:)

Personally I would rather deal with Steve directly than with a consultant. But that has been my general experience with pretty much anything; to deal straight with the people responsible than with intweenies. :)

I would definitely follow Eresh's advice on this and ask!

Thank you so much, everyone! :D

This is gorgeous!!! Do you mind explaining how you order a custom flexi? I know "how" to do it, as in write it in the comments box when checking out. But I guess I don't understand how you know what beads you can choose from or what design to put them in.... Do they send you pics to approve it before they send it off? I would *love* to have a flexi like this.... :inlove:
I just snoop around on flexi8.com and LillaRose a lot.. I look at all the flexis, figure out which centerpieces I like and what beads would look good with them. Sometimes I save the pictures and make little collages in photoshop. :o I get some inspiration from the flexis at cultmate.de too.
Steve sends me progress pictures, and he sometimes makes suggestions too. For example, this time he suggested we use a different type of pink beads than the ones I had picked out, because he though they would look better with the brass. He sent me pictures of both beads so I could decide which ones I wanted.

Also, just thought I'd mention that if anyone wants to copy my custom orders, go for it!

Kittybird, whoa, the pink sparklies look great with your haircolour!

Yep, there's a Jet Black Ficcare there! I had already put my hair up for the morning walk with the dogs, and I didn't feel like taking it all down again to show off the flexi. ;)

lazuliblue, my first order took a while to arrive and Steve was really helpful about it. I think it was because it got held up with customs- anyway, he was kind enough to send a replacement, and then of course the original order showed up so I sent the duplicates back. Can anyone offer any ideas for how I could wear the medium? It's too small for any buns (even centre held ones) but it's too big for a half up unless I pin it in place. I really love it, but I never reach for it because any way I can think of to wear it works better with a size larger or smaller. Bit of an exaggeration? It might be too big, but it looks to me like that bun would hold just fine with a hair stick, so even if it is "hanging on by its stick" it still looks perfectly secure.

Have you tried a Gibraltar bun? You can pin it through part of the outer loop rather than just the centre, but don't need to have the whole bun inside the flexi. I think it would be the perfect bun for that flexi.

I use a medium for folded plaits, but if that doesn't work for you kaydana then you could try doing something like a cameo bun to reduce the amount of hair in the flexi. If you split off some of your hair to make an accent braid, and use the medium flexi to make a bun with the remainder, then wrap the braid round, you may find it is big enough for that.

I got my new flexis from Lila Rose last night! Action shots below (I was too impatient to wait, so the lighting is a bit bad in some of them - the only good picture is from the one I wore today to work).

:scissors:

I'm going to start sounding fussy here, but I don't like the way they look. I mean, I do, on other people, people who can make them not lopsided and who can make the centre bun using a reasonable amount of hair. I can barely cram a medium into a centre held bun made with a third of my hair which has been wrapped around my hand twice to minimise the amount of hair in the centre. So the bun in the middle already looks too big for the medium flexi, and THEN I wrap the other 2/3 of my hair around it... it just looks silly. And it always comes out lopsided. I don't think I'll ever find a bun I like a medium with, so really I'm looking for braided styles, but it seems I prefer larges and extra larges for everything. Perhaps I should just give up and sell/swap it for something I'd use... but it's so pretty :(

Your flexis are gorgeous, I've been coveting flitter and ruby bouquet for soooooo long!

Theobroma

It does look more than a bit too big in the picture, though! But hey, everyone wears what they feel is secure...

It actually doesn't; the pin seems to have gone only through the very centre of the bun, rather like a hairstick through a lazy wrap or pencil bun, but it's perfectly obvious that the clip as such is a good fit for the diameter of the bun. If you prefer to have less pin showing, that's your privilege, but why harp on it?

I'm sorry if anything I said can be interpreted as looking to fight anybody. I assume I am meant because only Kaelee* and I said anything about Rag's hair and there are the words 'you two' in Lapushka's remark.

I don't 'get' this. I came over to this thread this morning (haven't been here in a bit) and saw that Rags had put up a photo she had removed and was sorry I couldn't see it, as I said above, so I asked her to put it back. All I can think is that somehow what I said is being interpreted as having something to do the little discussion I had with you, Lapushka, this morning over at the 'create your own flexi thread', which to me is (was) only on that thread, has nothing to do with Rags and which I consider settled anyway.

If you had some issue with Rags and settled it with an apology, Lapushka, that is great--leave me out of it. I just want to see her photo, as I admire her hair (and have said so many times) and kind of consider her a role model for me as I turn grey. and I love the particular clip she mentioned.

Just a bit more of this will make me block Lapushka's posts, which I have never done to anyone before and would prefer not to do, since Lapushka has a lot to offer on this forum. I have enjoyed much of her information on the LOC method, for instance.

Apologies to everyone who has had to read our disagreement over on the other thread and now here. I try not to do this to people and I'm sorry.

*I didn't see Kaelee accuse of anyone specifically of bullying, either. I didn't see a name mentioned at all until Lapushka popped up with this 'you two' stuff.

I use clear nail polish on the pin of my Flexi-8s for just that reason. It works on other types of jewelry too.

I am really enjoying my new Flexi-8s... but I think they may be irritating my scalp a bit, having nickel and all. I thought I read somewhere a while back that some people coat the pins in something to prevent this. Was it clear nail polish? Does anyone here do that?

Another light traveler here. I usually take my "utility Jeter" (a 3 prong oak fork for strength) and a single flexi.

rags
May 24th, 2014, 09:09 AM
For traveling I usually do a simple silver Flexi (so no clashes with clothing), a fork, and a couple of sticks. That's for a week-long vacation at the beach, and the sticks are acrylic or Quattros for the water. The flexi and fork are to wear out.

BonnieU, if I were you I'd persevere. A large should at the very least work in centre-held buns and also for a French twist, at least until you gain a lot more length. But there is a bit of a knack to getting them to hold a bun -- once you've mastered it you wonder why you ever had trouble, but I do remember having to play around and practise a bit when I got my first one.

BTW, which style did you get? Inquiring minds... :D

Im wondering if she can do center held buns at APL? Since I'm on the opposite end of the thickness spectrum from you iii's, I've no idea. :p But BonnieU, a French twist should work!

And yes, inquiring minds.......:p.

I always bring too many flexis with me when I travel.. Last time I went on a weekend trip, I ended up bringing 2 small flexis, 2-3 Ls, 2 XLs and 3 XXLs (and a few Ficcares and sticks). I counted them when I came back and I honestly had no idea why I had brought them all with me. :o If I'm sleeping over at DBF's place, I usually bring 2-3 silk scrunchies, a few flexis in various sizes, at least 1 stick, a Ficcare or two, and a ton of hair pins, just in case.

BonnieU is a iii so at APL she probably can't do centre-held buns yet.
I found the large pretty useless at APL but couldn't fit the XL until I got to BSL, since there is such a huge amount of difference between those sizes. that's why I was late to the flexi party.
I am hanging on to my large because I hope to do centre held buns one day--maybe at waist?
They look so nice. what I can do with my hair basically is make a cinnabun (only because I have so much taper_ and also now I can make a sort of nautilus over one finger. But its very unstable and I can only use hairsticks in it. Definitely couldn't use a flexi in that.
I do french rolls only with ficcares, the large flexi doesn't really hold a french roll and the XL doesn't either (because its too big for that and also extremely heavy and draggy).
Thick shorter hair just has different rules.
Off topic, I was rather discouraged today, I wore my hair out and it was one of those days when it doesn't even appear shoulder length. It varies. It actually appears APL sometimes. It must have been something about the weather? Another curly I know who stretches to waist length and usually appears to be BSL was looking as if she was jsut barely below shoulder. And both of us were sticking out sideways like crazy, sigh.
Of course, everyone else admired this look....

Glad you got it working for you! I still find mine as comfortable as the ficcares, and as secure too, they feel the same in my hair. It is hard not to order more but I'm desperately after a TT or Elymwold so...!! Gotta save :D

I was going to ask, what kinds of buns folk can make work, as I've been sticking with the lazy wrap for a while with the large flexi but found it wouldn't work with a couple of other buns when I tried them. ....it looks like it's a more complicated matter than I'd imagined, taking length and thickness of hair into account.

I have a gibson tuck in with the flexi at the moment!(it's a bit messy, I think I may have too much hair to stuff properly!!)

Does anyone have suggested buns for hip length hair that's medium thickness?

I've just ordered my first Flexi 8s. Two extra smalls. I'm kind of still only neck-length, but the back is long enough to make a ponytail - but I don't want to, it's too fine and breaks too easily. A Flexi will keep it out of the way and remove the temptation to trim it (the back is still 2-3 inches longer than the front and I look quite terrible.)

I saw a flexi in the wild yesterday! For the very first time! It was on a little girl maybe 10 years old.
It was a mini, I think. She had a ponytail with one of those non metal elastics securing it and had kind of pinned her little flexi on top, it was a cute look. The flexi clearly wouldn't have held her ponytail but she still made use of it. I wasn't close enough to see which flexi.

You know you are an LHCer when you want to live in America for the hairtoys!

Thank you, Selkie!

Sometimes I get annoyed I live in Europe instead of America because I only can buy one flexi at a time, if I don't want to pay €25 extra, but on the other hand... If I would live in America, I'd probably be addicted to buying hairtoys, especially flexis

BTW, anyone have ideas on how to keep from losing your Flexi when wearing them as braid Enders? I've lost 3 of them now and I even use a small elastic first and place the Flexi above it. They still seem to either slide off or pop off. I'm not sure which. );

I use mini's to end braids and have never lost one. However..., I have an idea for if it is too big and is sliding off. Maybe you could use a small, clear elastic to secure the braid and the stick the stick of the flexi through the braid? Securing it through the outside half of the braid? Just an idea. :p

Does anyone know what the difference is in delivery costs in EU and US actually? I'll have someone visiting from the states and if it's a huge price difference I might get them to bring some over in their luggage. (and what an excuse to buy something I otherwise can't allow myself ATM)

I know I pay about $7 US in shipping to here from the USA.

In country, not a clue. Likely about the same as we do within Europe. Envelope mail isn't that expensive within Europe either (never thought I'd say that.. with the price of a stamp these days...).

Shipping costs $4 within the US for as many flexi's as you want and no custom's to worry about ;)

Ruzovy -- love the flexi -- action pictures please!

Hi LMB -- welcome to flexi obsession! Ha! :D

Here is a pic of today's double-flexi-do with a medium flexi to hold the ponytail and an extra small to tie off the end. Excuse the weird braid - not sure why it came out that way?

I've been stalking this thread for a while, going back and forth on whether I needed any more hair toys, but this is the post that has made my mind up for me! (all the others have been tempting me for ages, but this one tipped me over) Beautiful! Do you know what the XL is called? I will be over in the States in a couple of weeks visiting family so will be placing a decent sized order and getting it shipped there!

The problem is I've bought this from cultmate.de and flexi's don't got names on this website :p But I'll do some research for you, I'll let you know if I can find the name!

Just heard from the Flexi folks concerning the upcoming flexi of the month on Lillarose and Paypal. If you are interested in that and you cannot pay with anything but Paypal, then you can order it through flexi-8.com still. Just contact them so things can be swapped around. :)

They are working on getting Paypal on Lillarose, but it is taking a bit longer. Should be a few more weeks probably. :)

I don't think that I can order from Lillarose because I'm in the UK, so am I right in thinking that if I want the FOTM I just put a flexi of the same size and cost in my basket and then put a note under it saying to replace it with the FOTM?

Question though... It's a large, and I have BSL medium hair. Center held buns like this one (I think it's a disc bun) are eating up the edges of the flexi. Is that user error or I-need-a-bigger-flexi error? I've heard the jump from L to XL is pretty big, but then again I can't do outside-held buns at all...

Carrielynn, the difference in pin length between L and XL is one inch. Going by your action shot, I'd say that an XL would be perfect for you.

I think you need an XL flexi, the L is pretty but you´re right it looks a little bit to small for this bun. You can try fold up braid with a L flexi. I mean something like this:

Is it comfortable and secure? When I was trying to wear a too-small flexi it was NOT comfortable 99% of the time, pulled, was just in general difficult.

I wear a mega for a disc bun, and a large for a LWB (which is center held) on my waist length hair. Disc bun is an odd one- it's center held, technically, but it's a lot thicker/there's a lot more hair in the center than other center held buns. You might want to try an XL and see if it works better for you (if it doesn't, you can always return it or exchange it! LR has awesome customer service. So does Flexi8).

Shipping internationally is not the problem, never has been after the site went international. The problem is the payment method. There is no paypal available yet, but they are working on THAT particular part of the site.

So.. like I said: if you see something you like, either buy it through flexi-8, or contact them using the contact option on the flexi-8 site if you are not sure. Shipping to you however is NOT an issue. :)

Thank you! I'm pretty sure it's a disc bun, the one where you put the hair up like a ponytail then split it into two sections and wrap in opposite directions.

It surprisingly was very comfortable. Maybe I'm just getting better at making it, but usually it would feel very tight. I just don't like how the flexi was getting lost in the hair...

Then again I only know how to make two buns right now (disc and lazy wrap). Any other buns I've tried with the flexi end up looking badly squished and not a nice round bun. I guess I see an XL going on my wish list. :)

I agree! I was hoping for something colorful myself. There are pearls in there though and at least on my phone and computer, they look silver too. Which I know they're not. So I'm thinking this one will look MUCH better in person. It's the same finish that's on the December 2013 Winter Wonder.

Oh, I like that a lot! A lot!

And I'd sworn off "silver" flexis. I have enough.

But, there's silver coloured, like most of them including all the "silver" ones I have - and it doesn't look like real silver at all, more like stainless steel - and then there's silver, and that's silver! (like that Dec 2013 FOTM - but without the AB, and that's a good thing in my eyes).

Those sticks are nice, too, especially the black.
