Anyone else see the Lillarose email for the April FOTM? :D I actually kind of wish that it was real! Haha :)

I totally fell for that one, thinking "really?! OMG!!!"

I just discovered these, this could be bad. Ive already ordered three of them. :p

I saw some pictures on the forums of some of you wearing these and I had no idea what they were or where to find them until I just fortuitously happened to come across the source while searching for other things. I think I'm going to have to put myself on a disciplined hair budget real soon before I get carried away! (I got my first pair of sticks and hair fork recently too).

I hope it's the right sie & I hope it works for my hair! But then again I hope I don't become addicted to them! lol They were all so pretty, it was hard to choose! & They always look so pretty in everyone's hair! I'm so excited to see NightShade's flexi when it's done!!!!

You just have to click on "check out as a guest" again. It should be right above the box where they want you to enter the person who referred you. I was quite puzzled, too. I find the website pretty counterintuitive generally and a pain to navigate, especially since you can't open links in new tabs.

I got a few pictures back from Flexi :) I'll be making a few changes and sending along more beads (silly me didn't send enough bead caps), but I love how it's looking!

Namely, I'll be taking out the floral discs and swapping them for more ivy leaves. I didn't send enough of the bigger caps on the solid green beads, so those will go along, too.

I'm really excited! He'll send more mockup pictures once I get the rest of the supplies to him :)

ETA: I'm also poking around for other dragonflys that are already silver but have green. Do you guys like either of these for possible centerpieces?

I love this month's. It's also my birthday month, so I splurged on a large flexi and a small, also the you pins. I'm imagining a half up nautilus in the flexi, plus the length wrapped around it and secured by the you pins. The small is for braids.

not flexi's but they look similar to bunheads, at least in the shape. I use bunheads frequently when I really don't want my hair to move, so I'm hopeful! I'll report back though.

Well, I'm doing most the legwork :) I've assembled all the beads and the dragonfly and did the design, so they just need to assemble it. I do know they do custom work, but I'm not sure what the limitations are for what they do on their side.

I think that the yellow beads are what really made me want it, it looks like I can wear the flexi with silver or gold, which will expand how often I wear it. I also really love the centerpiece, it looks like a sun to me, which has special meaning.

Here is my flexi in my hair. My bun is really sloppy but oh well lol. You can't really see it because it's brown and my hair is brown lol. But I just wanted a flexi to keep my hair up, and I'm trying to find my "personal style" so I figured simple and neutral colored would be best since I don't really know my style yet and this can go with lots of stuff if that makes sense lol. I think I'll get more fun ones in the future though!

I like the new FOTM, but still not my style. I'm getting the Roman Stone Lite Sapphire in L instead, slightly customized. I told flexi8.com to make an alternating pattern of Lite Sapphire and clear AB beads, and also to add extra beads so that each section has 3 coloured beads, instead of just 2. :o

You can shop at flexi8, put a comparably priced item in your cart and then a note: I really want style number... that is shown on the lillarose site. I have done this before. Does flexi8 ship to Europe? Well, you may want to email them first and make sure this is still possible.

Okay, I know I have previously stated that flexi-8's aren't really my style.. but.. there are two designs that have caught my eye and I'm feeling particularly celebratory at the moment and considering buying them! I think I got the sizing right, but just to make sure.. how do you pick the sizes compared to say, forks? I'm thinking about getting one in small and the other in medium. I wear 3.5" prong length forks which leaves a little bit of tines peeking out of my bun. I tried to measure the cinnamon bun I'm wearing with spin pins right now and that measures 8cm across, so 3.2 inches. I'm thinking medium for buns and small for folded braids of half-ups. Any thoughts, have I got it right? :o

Wosie
April 3rd, 2014, 08:59 AM
A medium-sized flexi containing a bun with waist long hair does sound like it'll be too small (unless your hair is thin)... Would you wear your flexis covering the whole bun, or would you prefer the bun to be centerheld? The flexis are probably smaller than you think they are (many peeps seem to get surprised when they see them), I used my medium for a half-up a few days ago and it fitted very nicely. :o

I'd go for a large for buns. Remember that you need enough sticking out either end to secure it. The "8" is approximate 0.75" smaller than the stick, and it has to go around the bun. I'd add at least an inch to the diameter of your bun for a flexi, unless you're only doing centre held buns.

sourgrl
April 3rd, 2014, 09:33 AM
My measurements: pony circumference is just over 3 inches. Im about two inches below BSL/ 2 inches from waist.

My go to style with a flexi is a lazy wrap bun. When I use cones I'm a tight large in my flexi. Without cones I'm a comfy extra large. I agree, with kaydana, a large if you will be using it for buns.

Nebulae

sourgrl, I just had to mention that with 3 inches of ponytail circumference you are a solid ii in thickness, not i/ii... Unless I misunderstood you. :o And yes, a large sounds about right to me. What is your circumference, Nebulae?

I can do buns with both Medium and Large flexis, just depends on the bun. I'm currently wearing a "twisted" nautilus held by a medium and this morning I did a normal nautilus and held it with a large, it still holds just fine, but the medium is obviously tighter. By this point it's bornerline too small though, so I may be retiring my medium from this bun at least.

I also noticed that to do a disc bun I would need at least an X-large, but I'm not sure I should get a flexi just for one bun. Or maybe I should :P

Next week I have a big exam and if I do well my reward is going to be a big flexi splurge. Can't wait!

Nebulae

I just measured, I'm still at 2.6", I was hoping for more :p

ETA: I do have a lot of taper, but my thickness is traveling down so I hope my buns will get a bit fatter eventually!

Totally agree. My buns are as glued to my head when I use those, particularly ficcares because the spring is so strong. They are also the only toys that don't drown completely in my hair, which sticks usually do (unless the topper is very very big). I like my toys to be sparkly, blingy, and to steal most of the attention from my hair

thats good to know, so that even when my hair gets longer I can still use it for something :)

They're here!!! The FOTM is absolutely stunning!! It's a bit smaller than my other small though, and doesn't fit my ponytail. :( Fortunately, I can wear it in a half up, so all is not lost if I can't get it in a size that will fit me (I left a message for my consultant, fingers crossed!)

The mega Flitter MORE THAN makes up for that disappointment though. Oh my gosh is it ever gorgeous! And the mega is so much more comfortable than the XL!!!

A consultant is basically a salesperson that you can go through. They can answer questions and also deal with the company so that you don't have to deal with them directly when it comes to product exchanges/issues, or they can find flexis that you want that are sold out (like the FOTM from several years ago). Becky introduced me to Deb but I think you can find one by posting on the Lilarose FB page that you're looking for one in your area.

Kaelee , the mega looks much better than XL. Your buns are huge, looks like you have a lot of hair.

Hele, that sure looks pretty. Flexi's are more comfortable to wear and looks dressy too. I've got compliments from strangers when I wear flexi 8's. Makes us feel good :)

The Flexi's I have are those that I bought off the swap board. I would like to order more. I read somewhere in this thread that if we buy four we'll get the fifth free. It sounds like a wonderful deal.

Anyone in Canada knows how to go about it?

I'm in Canada and have gotten the buy 4 get one free. It's exactly the same as the Americans or anybody else. If you only buy 3 you will get 10% off IIRC. The code is blue - 32088.

Go to the flexi8.com web site (NOT lilla rose). Add 5 or more flexis to your shopping bag. Even before you check out there is place near the bottom of the page for discount code, Blue _______. Put the number 32088 in the`box. Watch one of your flexis become free.

On topic: Ive never been very interested in the flexi-8s up until now but wow... theyre beautiful. I visited the website for the first time yesterday and now Im hooked- Id love to have one. I fell in love with a cute pink thing decorated with a fairy...

Based on what has been written regarding the sizes in this thread, I assume I would need a L or possibly XL for holding up buns (my hair is f/ii and hip+). If it turns out a little too big I guess my hair can grow into it. Only one problem though; I have been shopping so many hair related things lately and have sworn to not buy another hair toy in a long time... sigh. What´s a girl to do?

I used to not care for Flexi8s either. They don't look like much on the website(s) in my opinion, but this thread with all the beautiful bun + Flexi combos is very enabling, isn't it? I only have a Mega, but I've read in here that there is a big size bump between the L and XL, so I think the latter would probably be a safer choice for you at hip+.

Eadwine:

First, your new flexis are gorgeous! (And so is your hair, wow!)

To your question. I am a bit nervous about the Mega because most of the pics I see of a Mega in a bun LOOKS unstable to me. I am not sure if it really IS unstable or if the 8 just looks odd because ... eh? It is too big for the small beads, the centerpiece is too small? The bun should fill the entire 8, if there is a gap then it looks like it would fall out. LOOKS like. The largest flexi I haveis an XL and after seeing a picture Steve said I could wear a Mega so I sent him some chunky beads to make a custom. I hope they'll do. And I hope it is secure.

I have been wearing the XL for a centerheld bun and that works great, visually appealing. The Mega should be able to go across my entire bun. I hope. The beads I sent in would be too large to look right on anything but a Mega.

The neat thing about Flexis is that most sizes are usable! Even mini's can be used by someone with long hair.

OMgosh Eadwine, that Flitter flexi looks great on you! It's my favorite, I love mine. :crush:

As for the megas...well very few hairdos can withstand head banging (neither can my neck, so I won't be trying that one!) but I know for me, the XL is just too small. The mega might be a little too big, but the XL is too small, and I couldn't get the thing to close in a center held bun unless I slid the stick up through ("shortcut" through the center). Even then it was hit or miss, and even then the beads were so tight that it was likely uncomfortable/half of the beads were buried in my hair. The centerpiece sticks out at a weird angle. So I switched to a mega. It might not be *quite* as secure as an XL, but it doesn't take 10 tries to get it to close properly and not hurt either.

In your second picture, though it looks like the mega really IS to big for you. One thing I learned with flexis and ficcares, moreso than any other hair toys- SIZE MATTERS.

My consultant shared this trick and I thought I'd pass it on, if you have a flexi that's just a smidge too big (this works for ponytails/braids, wouldn't be so good for buns): wrap an elastic (I started with those clear tiny elastics but it wasn't enough, so I went to a black fold over elastic) around the pin. It won't get in the way, no one will see it and it tightens it up *just* enough.

ARG
April 7th, 2014, 11:17 AM
Thanks for the trick, Kaelee! My larges should be coming in today or tomorrow, and I'm worried with the wrong bun they may be too large (I can get a medium to work, its just slightly too small...) so that trick will definitely come in handy.

I think its fair enough to say I'm addicted to them. I've worn mine non-stop since it arrived, good thing I ordered more to give this guy a break. I don't even know how I manged to do updo's at all before them. I think its time to find a consultant so I can further feed the addiction. Can't wait until my Bean's fluffy hair gets long and thick enough for her own!

Agreeing with Lapushka.
If you see too much of the pin of a flexi, it's too big.
A good fitting flexi does not require tons of extra pins.

For me, (stickstraight ii calflength hair) XL works best, a size between xl and mega would be nice.
Mega, too loose, then it needs extra pins, elastic adjusting or just redoing the bun a couple times a day.

But it seems like a new trend here to just want to buy the biggest size.
I think Mega's look well and fitting good in thick hair of some people here.

But if it doesn't fit well it reminds me of this:

I got my flexi of the month, and I love it. They're beautiful (I got a small for braids/half ups and a large) but there seriously needs to be a size between large and x-large. I got the x-large and I find the pin too heavy to wear comfortably, so I decided to go for a large. The difference is enormous! I then went on the flexi8 site (not lilarose) where they put the pin measurements up.

From mini is 2 inch, the extra small 2 3/4, then they increase in 1/2 inch increments until it gets to x-large, then it's a full inch.

The x-large feels too big, and the large feels too small.

Pretty though! I also love the you-pins. I have to be careful as they like to burrow into my curls, but they're lovely.

By beads, do you mean the actual "8"? A Mega size 8 with an XL pin? That sounds like a good idea. That first coil of my bun is so thick that I have a hard time getting an XL over it! Much less the rest of the coils... it works well to section my hair and just do a smaller bun with 1/3rd my hair and then wrap the rest around that. But I am also worried that the Mega will look huuuuge and cumbersome and take over the back of my head or something. LOL

Ah. Well it is certainly worth trying... having a mega made with a smaller pin.

Valkyriejae
April 7th, 2014, 05:57 PM
I have the same issue. I've talked to the flexi people about doing that as a custom, but they'd want the cost of the mega+the 5$ custom charge. Which seems odd, considering I had assumed the beads were the cheap part and the price was based on the pin... Either way, it's out of my budget for the moment xD

I have an XL flexi that was a custom and it has a couple of extra beads (not part of the custom, just happened that way) near the centre, compared to a regular XL. The result is that the 8 part extends just a bit past the end of the pin. Kind of an XXL. I can't wear it for long, it's just too big. I really should put it on the swap board, it sound like several people could use an XXL (although I think most people here like blingy a lot more than I do, so it's sedate design).

It's this one (http://www.flexi8.com/1017.html?id=HSBBcfhx), only XXL :)

I wear a mega and an xl.... just depends on the bun. I have the same problem as Kaelee where the xl will not close easily without me hurting myself on some buns. The mega shows a bit of pin and is alittle loose, but at least its not like trying to close a jammed door!

Kina, I had the problem for the longest time, the large felt too small and the XL too big. But the XL is fitting better now than it did, so that will probably happen for you.
I also find that the large will make a ponytail, which is good news. I don't want a ponytail, but when I grow a few more inches of hair, I should be able to make a ponytail and then wind the hair around for a bun with the flexi in the middle. I mention this because you are 28.5 inches so you could probably do this right now.

Maybe I'm not good at making buns (TOTALLY possible!) or maybe I am not picking good sizes.... Any suggestions? :)

My mediums are okay for half-up buns, but too tight for center held buns (my favorite is the braided bun) with all of my hair. My large is too loose for the center held buns I've tried (works for a while and then starts to fall out), but is starting to feel too tight for a whole bun. When I first got it I was in love with it, but now I keep trying and trying but works for a while then it gives me a headache because its kind of too tight .... If I try to "grab" less hair the buns too loose and it starts to fall out. Do you think I need to (keep) trying new buns, or try an XL flexi ? :p

Granted, this may be an escuse to buy another, but still. Haha ;)

Of course not all hairdos can withstand headbanging. But a hairdo with a flexi should certainly withstand more than an hour's worth of normal wearing and definitely withstand a vigorous "no" shake. If the bun moves when you do that the flexi is simply too big.

Flexi's are just about the easiest thing to wear, and back when I started with them there was no one who said there was a definite learning curve. Just do them like a hair stick and throw the top over and done. If you cannot close it, then you need a bigger size. If the bun feels loose you need a smaller size. If you cannot fit the mega in your hair it has nothing to do with learning curve, that is simply because the thing is too big.

It is the same with the ficcare maximas. I couldn't get it to work proper for me no matter what I tried. Until I downsized.

The mega Flexi was made especially for women with BIG THICK hair, as in lots of rasta hair, as in dreads, that sort of thing. It is not a shame or anything if you cannot fit the mega.

A flexi should be and is one of the easiest and most secure hair accessories that are out there. Make your bun like you would use a hair stick, and if it feels too loose: question the size rather than the method if you cannot get it to work. :)

I wear Mega for disc buns and cinnamon buns, and XL for centerheld buns. Currently my favourite size is Large, because it's perfect for sectioned buns (half-up bun with the remaining hair twisted around). I think I'm moving in the opposite direction of the other members. I've always had to buy the biggest hair things available because my hair is so thick, but after I discovered sectioned buns, I've been able to use smaller toys. I love it! ;)

I completely agree that Flexi 8's are one of the most secure hair accessories out there. They are what I wear to sleep with my braided bun - I want it to be held tighter than an everyday bun as I toss and turn a lot, so I make sure to "stuff" the flexi-8 full of hair (and can struggle for a half a minute to get it closed), but it doesn't budge a centimeter throughout the night. I don't know that it would withstand hours and hours of vigorous head banging, but it would certainly stand a significantly better chance than my other hair accessories. I use a large for my every day buns without issue, very easy to slip in, holds well, overall very nice.

Some people like to have the flexi 8 go around the bun and surround the entire bun, while I personally prefer to not do that and go for the look of a center-held bun (even when it isn't specifically a center held bun).

Um...I do not have rasta hair and I can barely close an XL (and if I can, it's tight, uncomfortable, and has a success rate of about 50%) in my chosen hairstyle. My mega held for 9.5 hours and counting without budging, and without pulling or tugging.

I'm not sure why you seem to think this is a pissing contest...it's really not. Heck, I WISH XLs fit me as well- have you ever looked at the flexi site and seen how many styles AREN'T available in a mega? It's most of them. Without custom ordering I can't enjoy most of the styles you all can, which makes me sad.

The last few pages of this thread are making me feel like I have to defend myself for needing to move up to a bigger size. I'm not sure why that is, but it's not what I expected on this forum.

Thanks Chen, I'm wearing the large today, exactly as you described, holding the center w/ about half my hair, and wrapping the rest around the bun. I'm using the you-pins to secure the rest. My hair has enough taper that winding it around the bun will hold for quite some time, but then it slowly unravels. I think it looks ok. I'm sure that the people on this board who are able to take pictures of the back of their heads must be double jointed, cause I can't manage it with a cell phone to save my life!

The x-large fit over a bun for me and are quite secure, it's the weight of it that I find objectionable. I'm not able to tolerate it for more than 2-3 hours before I have to take it off. I did try Kittybird's trick of the segmented bun, and that works better for some reason and I'm able to wear it for longer.

Maybe it is too big? :hmm: but I thought the test was if they would hold your hair securely and they do. I dunno, maybe longer will give me more area to distribute the weight of the pin?

Kaelee, I was thinking, maybe you could get Nightshade to modify a flexi for you so that there are more beads on top and the stick is the length you like?
I'm staying out of any controversy (in enough already on another thread and I do hate discord with a passion) but what I see as the difficulty with flexi 8 is a) their descriptions of sizes are not too clear, hence the endless questioning of people who want to buy their first one (and its a good thing they have a good return policy because its easy to get wrong) and b) the big jump from the large to the XL, there really should be a size in between those two. There's a lot of people who can't comfortably fit a large anymore and the XL slides around on them, even when not on the first notch.
Also the fact that different flexis fit different buns and yes, you do need some skill in buns to make some of the buns. it really is not as simple as all that--at least it hasn't been to me.
Also the relation between different people's length and hair thickness helps complicate things.
I know the flexi 8 says that you only need a mega if you need a bungee cord for a hairtie, etc. etc. but I think they are not used to thinking in terms of the lengths that people have at LHC and that while their guide is good enough if you have hair up to bra strap, are white or Asian and are not extraordinarily thick, it really is not that useful for anyone else. It's a guessing game (one reason that I'm not that into flexi 8's though I keep coming back to this thread and retrying my flexis, because they seem as if they should be great for my hair if I ever get it right).

I don't mind the pin being long (I wear 6" hair sticks, so a 6.5" pin isn't that big of a leap) to me, it's not worth the cost to have one customized, unless there's a style that I really love that doesn't come in the size I need.

Flexi does seem to have sizing issues. I've noticed recently that even between two different styles (same size) there can be a large difference. I have a small that fits perfectly for a ponytail, and when I ordered a small in another style, I couldn't close it!. I wish they would iron out this issue. These are FANTASTIC clips but the sizing can be tricky.

I think you're right in that some of the pictures with ill fitting flexis are people who ordered the wrong size (and either don't know it or wanted to post action shots anyway before sending it back.) It is a guessing game.

I think maybe we shouldn't discuss people's choices though (outside of saying "you know, that looks a little big/small/etc. maybe you should try a ____") because whether it's the intent or not, it can be hurtful to some of us.

I agree. There seems to be a nice transition between smaller sizes, but then there's the L, and the XL is such a hurdle, then the mega seems about 2 sizes bigger than an XL. The sizing goes off there! Good point.

Please don't feel as if you have to defend yourself, but there *is* confusion on the sizing and people just tend to think well I have long hair, I must get the biggest size - which isn't necessarily true, and that's exactly the point I think Eadwine was trying to make! And there have been some pictures in which people just seem to get the size wrong.

To add.. Kaelee, you are making it a pissing contest now, not me, not taking part in the contest.

Thank you Lapushka for stating just exactly my concern.

As someone stated before: if the size below the mega is too small because you cannot close the 8 around the pin, definitely go mega. Nothing to do with wanting big. Big is what you NEED then. If that mega is a wee too big then, use the hairtie trick, that should sort things out.

And you can replace the word mega above with any size you feel applies to you. Sometimes I also wish there was something a little bigger than what I have now, but a bit smaller than the next size up lol

What's the hairtie trick?
I do wonder sometimes if I have special problems because I don't see a lot of other people with a natural afro hair type using these things in this thread. I mean, seeing curlies is some help but tightly curly can be a different story because of --I don't know how to put it--poof? lack of compressibility? I did read over on another forum for tightly curlies to not even think about less than a large no matter what your length and that seems to be true. I am fitting my x-large today on the second notch over a cinnamon, but it feels like uncharted waters. I will try to post pics at some point, since it seems that the experienced can tell when your size is just too big from viewing it. But I can't today (or maybe a couple of days) as my photo taking hubbie is sick (and he always has to be coaxed into taking back of head photos, anyway. Really doesn't see the point).
P.S. When I have seen natural afro hair types wearing these also sometimes it is in twists or dreads or minibraids which is not really useful to me either. Not trying to be difficult, but, its just the truth. those make your hair expand exponentially, mine is high density naturally but could not compete with the bulk you can end up with with dreads, honestly or even with lots of little twists.

Hairtie trick- wrap a hairtye around the pin to make the flexi a little smaller. Works well for ponytails, I wouldn't try it in a bun (it might work, I just wouldn't try it myself. It sounds ouchie!)

I think a large would be a good option for you. From what I understand, if its the wrong size they'll happily exchange it, you just pay the price difference. I use a large on the tightest notch for my 25.5" length 4" circumference for a cinnabun. I can easily use it on the loosest notch, but I like my buns tight.

Aaaah, I wish I had seen that before. I could have been wearing my XL long ago. Thanks, Kaelee!
The XL is still fitting and feeling comfortable this evening, its been in all day.
I must have finally grown into it. At least into the second notch. this is good as I will be able to wear it for a while over a whole bun, and since the large holds ponytails, I will be able to wrap a bun around it once I get Kina's length.
If there is some kind of 'I wear mega-flexis contest' going on, which I have totally missed, it will be YEARS before I can take part, if ever. It took me a year to grow into this XL (and its still only the second notch). A year in which I couldn't cover my buns with the too small L and didn't know how to use it for anything else.
I wonder why someone would want to wear a mega that didn't. I could see how you could order it by accident (I talked already about crazy flexi sizing and misleading flexi sizing descriptions) but I've honestly always been annoyed by not having a hope of fitting mediums, much less smalls, which are not only so much less costly but are always up on ebay and have a lot of choices of styles.

 I dunno, people can be strange. I think the bun size thing is related to how attractive people feel. The longer and fuller your hair, the more attractive you appear to other people. Having an enormous bun = lot's of hair?

I know that I love my paranda, because it makes my braids and buns look so much bigger/fuller. I hate when my hair really compacts down.

That paranda bun though was HUGE and I didn't realize just how big it was until I saw the picture I took of it.

I've also been finding recently that my buns are looking bigger, makes me happy. Still wouldn't order the mega though, I can't imagine how much it weighs!

My hair did fine in the sectioned bun today, over 14 hours it held without needing to move it. I took a picture after I came home, but didn't like it very much. It looked like my hair ate the flexi, plus my hair was doing it's damnedest to escape and it looked quite messy.

I wasn't aware there was a mega contest going on. ;)

Those who have to wear a mega wear a mega. For some of us, the XLs simply don't fit, end of story. I know for me its either wear a aliitle bit loose mega, risk damaging my hair by trying to get an xl to fit, or not wear a flexi at all. If you wear a medium or large, there's no shame whatsoever in that! Everyone's hair is different and buns differently. Megas aren't the best size anyway because they cost more and come in fewer styles, as Kaelee said!

I know how to knit mostly because I've always had to make my own hats. Before LHC I could never find a hairclip that didn't bust. I'm not all that fond of the beaded look but I keep coming back to the the flexi thread because it's delightful to me that there actually is a hairclip in which I not only don't wear the biggest size possible, but which it took me a year to grow into the SECOND biggest size (and I still have room to grow into it more...)
I really think fear of running out of the first hairclip I found that fit (ficcare, who just had all those issues last year) led to me overbuying those and that a big attraction to me with jeterforks is that THEY also come in sizes much too big for me. It's really delightful. I feel like I can grow and grow and grow (well, I hope I can grow more, I'm actually not all that sure about that) and never run out of things to wear. Which I thought I already had, before coming here, if that makes sense.
I guess it's all based on your past experiences.
Also, people buying things that don't fit them is just fine, if it makes them happy. Its not my business to worry about it. My mother in law (she's very ill now, unfortunately, she's such a sweet lady) for all the years I've know her has worn shoes at least a size too small--I mean really worn them, she never has had a pair the right size. You can see they are too small. She limps all over the place after walking for just a bit. And her feet are tiny to begin with, I'm talking about someone with a closet of size four shoes, who's only a size five really (and about five foot six). But this was her particular little vanity. If someone has a similar vanity and wants to buy super large hair clips that are actually too big for (and possibly not comfortable in) their unarguably very long hair--why should I care?

This is my thought exactly. I admittedly have a shirt or two that are too small- but I love them for some reason (color, etc) and wear them anyway. Do they look great? Probably not. But I wear them anyway, because I love them. ;)

After a few months of not thinking about buying more Flexis (I moved and had other things to worry about), I logged on to the site and saw the FOTM. I want! But they're out! My size is small and I wear one on each size. They had some extra-smalls, which I can wear, but I have to do something like wind the two braids around each other and let the ends dangle, which doesn't stay put as well as two separate buns. Any idea when they'll have more?

As for the mega contest, repeating myself: need a mega because XL doesn't fit anymore any which way you try, then get the mega.

I have found that a bun will hold securely with a smaller size for me as long as I apply the stick differently. The entire thing doesn't have to be encased, as long as the strategic bits are secured.

Today I decided to go "smaller is better" lol and wore this REALLY old XS or S.. I believe XS in my bun today hehe.

So cute that XS on the side of the bun!
I still use all sizes too. XS and S for halfups and ponytail, M and up for all other buns centerheld.
I find the L really working good for my logroll.

Mega was named XXL before they went on the site.
I have one, it fits but I don't like the weight of it on my head. (maybe it's my head....I also can't comfortably wear an L ficcare)
Eadwine gave me the tip to try the pin vertical instead of horizontal....I'll try that.
Otherwise I think I'll sell it as it is better to get some use than laid to rest in my flexibox.

Maybe Carinkla would like it? I don't know what size she wears, but can't hurt to ask :)

Hi there guys!

I just hopped on the flexi8-train and really enjoy my new pretties....
BUT I have one concern... I have the feeling, that the clips are not very "flexible" when it comes to the sizes and growing your hair... With half ups and stuff it´s nt an issue, but I use my flexi8s to hold my LWB. And I am worried, that I will outgrow them fast and the size is not very variable.
I mean: a Ficcare can "open and close" it´s mouth to hold different amounts of hair. A Flexi seems to only be able to always hold the same amount of hair. Do you get what I mean?
I already have one style in two izes because I am worried of growing out of it soon... :/

eadwine
April 9th, 2014, 11:46 AM
You can adjust the grip of the flexi to grab a different bit of hair. Also not all the hair needs to be in the flexi, you can grab parts of a bun and not the whole thing and still have it be secure as a rock :)

eresh
April 9th, 2014, 01:22 PM
If I remember correctly, Carinkla was the one who discovered the XXL.
I don't know if she still wears them, mainly XL's I think.

I've had my flexi's for a few months now (some haven't even been worn), but I noticed the silver "paint" on the pin is comming off some of them and snagging my hair when I try to insert it. Is this a common problem with flexis or is it just me that got the ones with bad pins?

Certain buns with the ends tucked in enough you won't have to worry about all the hair being in the Flexi. It's all about manipulation of the pin.

Mysole flexi that I bought from flexi8.com is losing the silver color but not grabbing my hair. the one I bought on ebay came all tarnished, cleaned it gently with silver polish, though its not silver. You might also try rubbing gently with a jeweler's rouge cloth, if its been around too long to return.

Huh, I didn't even know that the silver on the flexis was painted onto them, I thought the pins were made of some kind of metal. :hmm: Now I don't really dare to try to remove the black marks I have on mine with nail polish remover. Doesn't sound like the cleverest idea anymore. shudder:

Otherwise I haven't noticed any snagging from the pins themselves, only that my hair gets stuck in the beads sometimes. But I guess that's understandable!

The colour comes off in big chunks, I so I don't dare any rubbing. I'd send them back if the postage to US wasn't enough to buy me two new flexis (the curse of konung in Europe), but I'll try the jeweler's cloth tio on some of my other toys. Thank you :)

It's not the pin itself that snags, it's the chunks of paint comming off. I painted them with nail polish and hope that will solve it.
Maybe your black marks will go away with Chen's suggestion? :)
And about the beads snagging, I'm amazed with how seldom that happen :)

April 10th, 2014, 07:45 AM
I was going to suggest painting them with clear nail polish to smooth them over. It's the first thing I would try. :)

The pins are metal, but some of them are silver plated, which could come off.

SO!!! Thanks to your advice, I found me a consultant (the lovely Lisa Sutton, thank you!), who was willing to ship aaaall the way to central europe for me! AND she found me a L Winter Wonder too! And since I was going to make a big flexi order from the flexi8 website anyway, I decided to instead take this chance to get some lillarose exclusive models since I actually like these more than the ones I was planning on buying. So I am now [impatiently] awaiting the following BEAUTIES:

I just learned another trick that might help some people- if your flexi is too big, squeeze the loops longways (so that they get wider)- this will shorten it slightly. If it's too small, squeeze the loops short ways (so that they get longer)- this will lengthen it slightly. This works to slightly adjust the size quite well! :) it worked perfectly on my medium!

Yep, the flexi is the only thing securing my hair, it is a center-held knot bun(well, not quite center-held, I did capture a little bit of the outer coils for stability). :)

Anyone here knows whether it is safe to wear a Flexi 8 on a domestic flight within US? I'll be crossing the border to the US by car and flying domestic.

And also is it okay to carry wooden hair forks, TT's and Flexi 8's etc in our carry-on baggage or do we need to put all this in checked baggage? I don't want to lose my precious hair toys.

All these past years I had short hair, so this question/doubt about hair toys didn't arise until now.

I usually fly with a wooden fork or acrylic sticks in my hair and a flexi in my purse to change into once I'm through security, if I want to. I've found that even spin pins set off the metal detector, so I've gone plastic or wood. If you wear a flexi through security, expect to have your bun patted down and you may have to take it out.

I always wear my least favourite acrylic sticks (Superhero - the colours just aren't for me) or most easily replaced fork (purpleheart Jeterfork) and carry my least favourite flexi, just in case the security drones take them away, but it hasn't happened, or even looked like happening, yet. Almost every time, the flexi in my purse did draw some attention from the bag-xray person, and every time it did, they took one look at it on the inspection table and recognized it for a hairclip.

Now, mind you, I've flown to Cuba, and all around Europe, and to and around Australia and Thailand with that arrangement, but NOT the USA, and they do have the most over-the-top-crazy-ass security of anywhere, so YMMV.

Thanks Stellaaa! I was worried about how to bring back those hair toys which I've bought and got it shipped to my mom who lives in the US. I plan to bring all those back with me. So was wondering whether I could put all those in my carry-on baggage. Going to follow eadwine's suggestion and keep everything in my carry-on.

Like you and eadwine mentioned I could take out the flexi I'm wearing and put it in the tray while going thru the security. That problem solved :)

Kaelee
April 11th, 2014, 08:05 PM
I would only worry about a mega flexi because the pin is so long it could potentially be viewed as a weapon by someone. The other sizes I wouldn't worry about.

Stellaaa
April 11th, 2014, 08:28 PM
duchess67, if you are checking a bag I would definitely put all but the toys I'm wearing in there.

If you're only doing a carry on, then I guess just put them someplace really easy for the security people. I put my flexi in the 1 litre ziplock bag with my liquids and gels (small toothpaste, hand cream, eye drops, lighter, etc).

Very lovely, kme81! I might just have gotten that one as well - will report as to how it looks in dark hair. :)

I think the blue will look stunning in your hair color! I'm excited to see pictures. :)

kme81 Thank you! Blue is my favourite colour and there aren't that many blue Flexis, so I was excited about this one. Thank you for posting such a clear shot of the centerpiece - it's quite lovely, and I look forward to receiving mine. Luckily Flexi8 orders tend to reach me quickly despite the long distance.

Kaelee, I don't have much hair, can use only a large now. Mega is in my distant future :o

I would only worry about a mega flexi because the pin is so long it could potentially be viewed as a weapon by someone. The other sizes I wouldn't worry about.

Stellaaa, while going I will have only a carry-on but on my return journey I'll be checking in two bags. I don't plan to take any hair toys from here except for the one I am going to wear. Your post made me think again. Most probably I'll do like you suggested then, pack all the hair toys in check-in. I've bought quite a lot. I'll photograph all the toys in case American Airlines lose my luggage, photographic evidence is always the best :)

duchess67, if you are checking a bag I would definitely put all but the toys I'm wearing in there.

If you're only doing a carry on, then I guess just put them someplace really easy for the security people. I put my flexi in the 1 litre ziplock bag with my liquids and gels (small toothpaste, hand cream, eye drops, lighter, etc).

kme81, I totally agree with everyone. That blue flexi looks stunning in your hair, goes very well with your hair colour.

To whomever suggested squeezing the "8" of the flexi tighter when it seems a bit too big for whichever 'do one is trying to do, THANK YOU! I have had this flexi in an S https://secure.lillarose.biz/products/detail/1-1874.jpg forever now, and even though one of the corner wooden beads broke off during shipping I still really love how beautiful it is, and unfortunately I could only ever wear it in a ponytail because it was just too big for my halfups. BUT! After squeezing the "8" I now can wear it in a halfup! It might still slide a little, but a lot less so! So thank you, whoever you are! And I ask everyone with similar issues to try it too!!! :D

Eresh, thank you for posting these multiple ways of wearing smaller-sized flexis. You are such an inspiration!

Thank you :-)

That was me! It seems a lot of people are between sizes, and their sizing is somewhat inconsistent. There are a couple of tricks to customize them (another one is to wrap a hairtie around the stick part- you can't see it (it's under your hair) but it makes the flexi tighter. I'm safer buying mediums for ponytails and using these tricks, than buying smalls because smalls are sometimes too small to fit depending on the beads.

Eresh I don't know how I missed your pictures earlier, but wow, I love your hair and your collection of flexi8s in so many sizes. Beautiful!

Flexi design idea... you know the sun design for the kingdom on the movie Tangled? That sun with maybe purple and pink beads like Rapunzel's dress. With little Pascal u-pins. The current flexi of the monthhas a center bead that is similar to the sun emblem on that movie and what spurred that random thought.

I hope no one has a flexi confiscated from TSA! That would be horrifying.

You're welcome!!! I have similar issues with the clips I wear for ponytails.

My new custom flexi arrived! Roman Stone with Lite Sapphire and clear AB beads. It's perfect! :inlove:

This updo was inspired by eadwine and eresh. I typically use size XL to secure nautilus buns, but now I've discovered that Ls work too. I put the pin through half of the loop on the right side, grabbed some scalp hair, and pushed it up again and clipped the 8 over. Basically I just secured the loop on the right side, but that was enough to hold the entire bun securely and comfortably. Magic! :magic:

And then I re-did the bun because I wanted to try it with two Ls. This is wonderful!

Oh my Kittybird. Your custom IS pretty. That green one though, wow, it looks good in your hair. That is one massive bun! I love, love, love the contrast of colors in your hair, makes your updos so dramatically perfectly beautiful!

I also like the look of smaller flexis, I think. Your whole look there is *perfection*. I really enjoyed that one picture of your bun in a Ficcare and a smaller flexi used like a barrette, off to the side, I think it was on a side braid.

Thank you so much, Tails and CimarronSun! :D I prefer smaller flexis nowadays, they're just so pretty! Sadly, this means that my XLs and XXLs aren't getting much action, so I'm considering putting some of them up for trade on the swap board.

LauraLongLocks, thank you :-)
I thought it might help reinvent the use of smaller flexi's
