You know you have them, and we all know how akward it can be to share them with non-LHCers. So share them here.

One of mine: Hairsticks=less bad hair days. Occasionally at work I have to work with food, which means hair up. If I do a stick orchid bun, I end up with Farrah waves instead of hat-head. And I love pulling the stick out and letting it tumble.

Haha, I was having random hair thoughts at work (as you do), I was packing chocolate sponges and ordinary sponges into bags ready to put in the shop. My boss was printing some labels out for me to attach, down at the far end of the bakery. "How many do you need?" she asked. "I'll have 12 chocolate ones and 12 blonde ones", I answered, before realising what I had said. Oops!:couch:

After watching Tangled's special features I began to wonder, how thick her hair was if she was real? So I looked up how thick a human hair strand is and multiplied that by the number of hair strands that was told on the special features and spent almost twenty minutes trying to figure it out. Well I thought too hard that I got a major headache at the end. I still haven't figured out the answer.Let's see if you math geniuses can figure this out.

Rapunzel has 40,000 hair strands, each about .001 inches in diameter.

Her hair would be very thin. Obviously the way that the strands arrange themselves would make a difference but I got an estimate of 0.7 inches for her ponytail circumference, so she really would have incredibly thin hair.

No, the circumference wouldn't be 40 inches; if you laid out all the hairs next to each other and measured across them, then that length would be 40 inches.

I've forgotten how to math (:p), but I would assume kaydana's answer is right.

The average number of hair strands blondes have on their head is about 140,000 strands, so she really wouldn't have thick hair at all in real life.

ETA: Apparently redheads have 90,000 strands on average, which is closer to 40,000 but still over twice as much. And I wouldn't be surprised if redheads generally have coarser hair than blondes do, making up for having "few" strands with the thickness of the strands.

Jacqueline101- I totally agree with your kettle and hair thing- I'm watching mine and it's NOT growing!

Stick means you can have disastrous hair and you can still put it up in a bun that looks good to most passersby! Or hide the fact that you are just too damned lazy to preen your hair that morning!

It had happened to me that right before a haircut, my hair looks great: shiny, long, soft... just beautiful! And it made me wonder if I should cut it or no...

I've been trimming my hair for a year using Feye's method to get a blunt hemline. I think it looks fine when hair is loose but whenever I braid it it looks like one side is longer than the other and I get these wispy ends...does that happen to anyone else?

My random hair thought: It feels so good to have freshly oiled, freshly braided double dutch braids for the night. The right hand braid I always get first go, but the left braid is always a struggle to get the direction of the braid to match the right and also the tension/ hair adding correctly. Im right handed. After about 6 goes, I think I figured out how to tackle the left side cos Ive nailed it- both braids are in symmetry and perfect looking. :cheese:

Mini dilemma over how much to trim, whether I should just go to a salon and get cut back to waistish with fresh light layers or wait till end of jan? Should I even trim because then I'd lose about an inch plus the over-zealous inch that the hairdresser cuts off. Isn't that the end goal though, to get rid of the ends? I couldn't possibly deal with waist length now, seems so short. Yeah just teeny micro trims and then a cut in jan or feb. Hair would have grown an inch or 2. Do I even want all of the ends cut away since that girl with the white blonde tbl fairytail ends signature looks soo good and my hair would look like that if I just microtrim but gold coloured.

for the first time in 10 years I'm considering a coney leave in/serum kind of thing.
I want to wear my hair loose on New Year to show off my dip dye.
I'm afraid that it will build up and hurt my hair, I'm afraid that my wurlies which are very shy are going to go into hiding and that I won't have the effect I want and ...
I can't really remember why I stopped using them, I did have shorter hair I think. And when my hair was longer (like bsl) I didn't know how to care for it. I remember it being very knotty, dry and difficult to handle. I blamed it on the cones but in after sight it was just that I didn't know how to care for my hair. Still might be the cones though? eurgh !

DarkCurls
December 27th, 2012, 11:00 AM
Kyaatje, I say go for it. A little tiny bit of silicone in your hair, just once will not destroy it forever, and is hardly enough to give you serious build-up (which you can always get rid of, anyway). I don't think cone products are The Miracle, but trying one out isn't The Disaster, either.

Thought that keeps running in circles around my head whenever I touch my hair: Can't seem to replicate that amazing softness I had the first time I tried the DC I'm currently using. Irritating.

caved and washed my hair today instead of tomorrow. Will have 3 day hair with New Years eve, oh well !
On the upside I didn't wash my hair in 9 days LOL
I'm starting to wonder why I try to wash even less : I like my hair freshly washed and I like it a couple of days after but more then a week, my hair feels heavy and I don't really like it.
I think I'm going to go back to washing when I feel I need it (which means approx. every 5 days)

My hair likes all methods of washing that I have tried, though some more than others. But I only like co-washing with Suave Waterfall Mist. I don't like using anything else, even similar Suave Naturals products. Waterfall Mist is like home to me. I've spent the last month or two using shampoo and cones. My hair is happy but I am not. I just got some Waterfall Mist, though, so I'm happy again.

This was a while ago, but the answer I got was 0.63 inches ponytail circumference, or 0.2 inches ponytail diameter, assuming each hair was perfectly circular, and there was no gaps between hairs. A more likely answer is 0.65-0.7 inches because of the gaps of air between the hairs. Rapunsel must have had very thin hair

I think the problem here is that the animators are talking about how many strands they animated for her hair. Not how many hair strands she would have if she were a real person.
In all likelihood if she were a real person her scalp would be just a bundle of hair magically held in place with no skin to be able to get that thickness and she'd have a lot more than the realistic hair strand thickness or hair count.
The average hair count for a real life blonde is 140 000 strands so . . yeah. 40 000 is not a good number to work from.
Also 0.001" translates to about 25um which is half the average hair strand diameter and a quater of a high but realistic thick hair strand diameter.

50° C is 122° F. Haha--I just grabbed my food thermometer and temped my hairdryer. The low setting registered at 130° F. The low setting with the cool-shot button held down registered at 80° F. I can see how a tempurature less than 122° F would be fine; people live in temperatures up to that and if they shield the hair from the sun, the air temperature doesn't damage it. It makes sense.

I'm thinking my hair has gone crazy :p
I've been stretching washes without a problem up till 9 days, where it would be really greasy the last 2 but I could hide that in a sockbun. I washed my hair Saturday before New Year and for the first time in years used a bit of silicone serum on the ends (they are a bit unhealthy but I decided to keep them that way so I could have a dip dye).
My hair stayed oil free for 9 days without a problem after that wash, but then ! My shampoo (I dilute) didn't foam lie it normally does, my hair felt strange and clean but I don't know ... Strange. After one day it looked oily allready and my ends looked like they were teased ! I tried rewetting them, oiling etc nothing helped. So yesterday I was fed up and washed it again after only 4 days. This time I decided to use the shampoo full strenght, again no foam ! At the moment my hair looks normal but I don't know how it will look tomorrow.
Oops long hair thought !

My random thought.... I used to want to grow my hair very long so that I could wear it down and show it off. Now that I'm at tailbone, I like wearing it up a lot, because it's like my own little secret. A lot of people have no idea how long my hair is since I wear it up so much, and I'm in college so I switch to different classes with different people each semester. I don't even wear braids hanging down. I think it's kind of cool to have a dirty little secret right under everyone's noses. :D

If using a blowdrying warmer than 122° F can damage hair, can warm bath water? I am using somewhat cooler water in order to not wash out haircolor, but I HATE to freeze!

I want to renew our vows now so I can have my hair all curled, pretty and loose.. or perhaps something nice and up. But, it costs money, I'm already married and thinking of buying a house. MREH.

speaking of which, I'm dreading the move out. I just know I'll be finding hair nests in most random places.

I get the feeling! I also wanted to come to a new class with a bun and let it loose some day so people would be amazed at the length :P.

That is so my goal for the end of this year! I wear my hair up every day, usually a "top knot" (high lazy wrap or cinnabun), and if I can just make sure to always have it up before leaving the house, I'd love to see people's reactions to seeing it down at say, a Christmas party later this year!

Also: I don't think I'll admit to non LHCers that a great majority of my diet choices are for encouraging a healthy body in order to have the healthiest hair possible. >.>

Three today:

My hair behaves like freaking antenna. I wore my hair down at school Wednesday morning and was so over-aware of people brushing past me in the (very narrow) corridors. I kept wincing whenever someone brushed against my hair. It didn't hurt, it just felt... weird. I'm blaming LHC for this.

The mirror in my room as school is definitely not encouraging my "ignore hair" resolution.

My grown-out bangs really do frame my face "Rabbi Jacob (http://www.bypeople.fr/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/rabbi-jacob.jpg)" style (very famous comedy film in France, not meant to be offensive).

I love my color. I love the color henna at full saturation would give me. I love every color in between. I don't love my current thickness, but henna would help. It is only those three short, wispy little silver hairs at my left temple that are keeping me from using the henna I have. *sigh*

I should start doing a different bun each week, so I can actually get the movements for each one into my muscle memory. As it is, I watch videos online and figure out how to do a bun, and then forget by the end of the day. So I just keep coming back to either a cinnabun or a Nautilus. I'd really love to figure out how to get the figure-8, infinity, and treble buns to look right; maybe I'm twisting too tightly?

I love seeing my hair in the full-length mirror, and it amuses me that there is only one mirror in the house now that allows me to see all of my hair now. I'm getting to the point where my fingers get tired of braided near or before the end of even a single braid. I'm still getting used to not having easy access to the ends of my hair when it's down, like draping it over my thigh if I want to play with the ends while sitting; it's kind of weird. I wonder if I'll have a growing list of :/ feelings as my hair gets even longer, or if I'll make peace with it and enjoy fingertip, mid-thigh, and knee the way I enjoyed waist and tailbone. That journey between waist and tailbone kind of sucked, so maybe this is just one of those awkward transitions. It's normal to need an adjustment period when you're suddenly having trouble reaching the ends of your hair, right?

Showered,& delicately combed hair to be left to naturally dry in a neat and maneagable way, happy!
Compared to last time when i made the mistake of leaving it to dry in the un-combed, towel patted state and wore a soft headband whilst still wet, which resulted in a crazy looking raised side swept growing out parted fringe to go with the messy looking hair!! EEK

Jasper, I have had similar thoughts.

I had thought olive oil would be too oily/heavy, but I added a small amount to my hair oil and my ends were sooo soft last night. They are so damaged that usually nothing helps. And the oil is absorbed today. So now my current mix is coconut, glycerin, castor, almond, jojoba, sunflower, and olive, all infused with catnip. But I've added so many things that I have no idea what percentages to use to re-create it. Also, I have no idea if the benefit is from the catnip or olive oil or both. hmm

I hennaed my hair after a year of not hennaing. So I used an old, previously opened bag of Yemeni henna that had been in my freezer for, seriously, a year and a half. And the color uptake was ridiculous. My roots came out a darker red than they ever have before (and I've always used Yemeni). But I was like, what gives?

This was a while ago, but the answer I got was 0.63 inches ponytail circumference, or 0.2 inches ponytail diameter, assuming each hair was perfectly circular, and there was no gaps between hairs. A more likely answer is 0.65-0.7 inches because of the gaps of air between the hairs. Rapunsel must have had very thin hair

I tried the math and got 0.5 inches diameter (the number's rounded, and I was working it out for if her hair's packed tight tight. It'd probably be closer to 1 inch loose, I guess). That's not what Rapunzel's hair looks like in the movie! I suppose the animators only had to animate the hairs on the outside of her golden mass.

I think my problem with French braiding is that I waited too long to learn. My hair tangles so horribly and doesn't like separating into small strands. I feel like I need a room full of mirrors and a few extra hands to get it right.

Kittykins, I'm not sure if there's much difference. I vaguely recall someone saying your hair should be damp or wet when oiling so the oil has extra moisture to lock in (but nothing really specific about whether damp or wet was better), but I always oil dry, usually the night before I wash, and get decent moisture from it. The one time I tried damp oiling my hair was awful, crunchy and clumpy and just unpleasant. I'm sure it's different for everyone, just like different types of oil have different results for everyone. I say try it each way and see what works best for you.

I think I've been brushing out my curls for my entire life (my mom has curly hair and hates it and always brushed hers out and now flat irons daily). Now that I'm growing my virgin hair out I have full on spirals at the roots but the damaged lengths just hang there. It will be a long time before I can do anything but just brush out the wurls, and I don't know how to care for curly hair, just wavy, and even doing wavy hair stuff seems like a lot. I'm freaking myself out for no real reason.

I think I'm the trend leader at work. In the beginning of 2012 I was doing flowers quite often. Now one of our receptionists has been following suit. I've known her for 7 years, and never known her to use any hair accessories beside scrunchies. And just recently another coworker has been showing up with flowers. She's more for layers and colors than hair toys. I challenged her to wear double braids to work. Let's see if she does it.

A) I dreamed I was snipping at the ends of my hair (its BSL Now) and then I look up in the mirror and its half hacked off. I then freak out in my dream and then my husband tells me my dream cut looks "fine". He always says everything looks fine..

B) I keep waking up and my sleep braid is dismantled. I'm a rough sleeper so I blew it off. Now my 3 year old son sleeps with me and we were watching tv in bed and he started peacefully twirling my bangs. Then when I rolled over he way putting his fingers in my hair and playing with it. Then he started working pieces out of my braid. Mystery solved! Can't be good for my hair but his shy looking face when I rolled over and looked at him was precious.

i have a few..

i think i have become a bit hair obsessed lately.

i really hate when someone hugs me and has a cigarette in their hand.

I like to watch Alex Polizi on TV because I love her curls.

I'm thinking about getting a hair dryer with a diffuser to try it out and my boyfriend for some reason thinks he knows more about hair dryers than me and thinks you should spend around £100 for one. Eek! Why? For one thing he hasn't ever used one!

Putting coats on is easy but putting a scarf on is a pain with long hair especially if you try to do it when you have a hood on your coat and you put the scarf on second because you are being dumb and forget that you have to be upside down to put the scarf on so you don't wreck your curls.
So...you get hit in the back of the head with the hood and realise you have to take the coat off and start again...scarf before coat...

Finished a bottle of castor oil (which I mix with coconut oil for overnight oiling). I hated to throw it away, so I poured in some purified water and now use it as a quick face wash. Sort of a junior, very diluted version of OCM. Works great as a cleanser and really softens my skin.

Thought back to Friday when a colleague was saying how her hair getting longer and the condition its in is getting her down, she's saying it doesnt suit her... its nearing APL and its fine hair, she's worn extensions every so often also to give herself the long hair down the back. Said she was pretty much ready to go to the salon for an angled bob this weekend. So, mon tomorow, see if she's gone and done it. A hair change has been on my mind for a while, not an angled bob though! see what i feel once spring is in full swing!

Not so much hair thoughts, but... I was out with my mother for lunch today and she asked me how long I was going to grow my hair. I said until I think it is long enough, and she thought for a minute, then said, "When you die can we cut it short and keep all the hair?" I had to laugh and say that yes, I wouldn't be needing it anymore then...

I was in the rest room at the mall today and a woman and young girl came in. The mother went into a stall and told the girl very firmly to "wait there and DON"T MOVE"...
There was a pause then a small voice pipes up and says, "Can I move my arm?" I just cracked up and so did her mother...

some crazy and utterly random hair thoughts :

why would people think egg would boil in the shower ? My temperature is set at 38°C body temp being around 37 .... to boil water it has to be 100°C , if I boil an egg (runny) I put it in the boiling water for several minutes. The egg has its shell at that point but it takes some time to get a softly boiled egg in boiling water so ...... what is the temperature off some peoples showers ?! It makes me wonder every single time !

If every hair has its growing-rest-falling out-regrowing cycle, how can we really determine terminal if we s&d or trim ? Sometimes you get the feeling hair isn't growing AT ALL (:taz:) but is it that we are in a phase where the longest hairs are in the resting phase and the new ones haven't caught up yet ? And when the new (still untouched ones) surpass the ones that are stalling are we seeing growth again until we need to snip at it again ?

Egg won't boil at a (normal) shower temperature but the egg white will definitely start to solidify. This happened to a friend of mine who did an egg wash and forgot to turn the temperature down to rinse. She ended up with tiny bits of solidified egg whites clinging to her hair. Apparently they were quite tricky to remove.

I think that when we reach 2014 I will finally say to myself "Yes, I have long hair now."

I did an egg whisked with ACV hair mask recently. Didn't leave it on long at all, wasnt liking the intense vinegar smell. Few days later a workmate kept looking at my hair, and eventually said it looks darker?! the lighting at work is no different, normally my hair lightens slightly from spring to summer. Maybe its the ACV, or what she said was maybe it is because i have a new side swept fringe haha

1970's fancy dress day at work today...yay!

I don't have to do anything different to my hair as curly and natural was 'in' Double yay!

I have an outfit that looks dreadful! Result! Haha!

Maybe the reason non-LHCers are confused by the idea of hairsticks is that they are picturing Pebbles Flinstone with a bone in her hair....

This may be petty and stupid, but it annoys me when people ask if my hair is naturally wavy. It's curly, darnit! It just looks wavy because it was in a bun earlier. Maybe the real reason I'm annoyed is that every time I go to work with it washed, down, and curly, I end up having to put it up because we never have enough staff in the food area and I end up over there, yet again.

It's so annoying when they list the ingredients using 0.35" size letters

That is SO true, I am almost needing a magnifying glass to read them nowadays.

I'm rocking a legolas braid and no one is awake to see it. Seriously, this is the best braiding I have ever done on myself and of course I manage it right when I'm about to go to sleep.

Take a photo for posterity, and for us of course. :)

I am delighted my friend is thinking of growing out, but dismayed she thinks she's "too old" to use cute clips or do pigtails. She's only in her early forties, and I have told her there are some ladies here who are not twenty-somethings who rock those styles. Besides, she works from home. So, it goes double: who cares?

It occurred to me last night that I dance with my hair. Over the years I've become accustomed to it being its own entity on the dance floor.

I noticed a few months ago when I put my hair up in buns for a convention rave that dancing just didn't feel right without my hair flipping around; last night I realized that my hair is too long to use the way I always have. It gets into too much trouble. Even up in pigtails, it wrapped around other people, got tangled in my bracelets, wrapped around my arms, and by the end of the night it was a huge tangled rats' nest. Luckily my tangle teezer and a lot of patience meant almost no damage from it, but still. I guess it's time to go back to hair falls; at least then my actual hair is tucked away in neat little braided buns.

My deep treatments always make my hair worse after I rinse but after I dry it, hide it and then wash again it's always worth it. I also don't think I will grow out of dip dyed ends.

Yes, little girl, you are not imagining things. My bun really is larger than your entire head, but continue staring at me all wide-eyed with mouth agape like I don't notice; It's doing wonders for my ego.

I discovered yesterday that a sock bun done at the middle of my head makes for an AWESOME pillow :D

Helix, little girls are fascinated by my hair sticks. They ask their moms about it. I have to stifle a laugh.
