Thread: How patient or skillful hair brusher are you?

Default How patient or skillful hair brusher are you?

I've noticed that i must be incredibly patient and not hurry at all when brushing my hair, or else I will tear at least a few strands away. So i shouldn't be busy or hungry when i brush my hair. Can you brush your hair without tiniest damage?

My hair is thin so I actually can't afford any self caused damage...

No clue if you can brush your hair without any damage at all, and I don't actually care too much. I try to be careful, though. As you say, being in a hurry is always a bit "dangerous" when it comes to brushing. I don't have time to be very gentle if I want to brush every morning, since my children are waiting for me... and not always so patiently... Sometimes I do it too fast and rip a bit, not too bad though. I use a wet brush, it's really good and my hair isn't very tangly. Especially if I have slept with a sleeping cap, it's as good as tangle free (if I brush in the evening, of course). If I am really in a hurry and have to get going, I sometimes just braid my hair tangly and do the brushing later! :-)

The products I use fully melt my hair so I do not deal with tangles or knots, therefore don't really have a problem with brushing at all or have to worry about it, which I'm thankful for. Anyway, I still use a Tangle Teezer Wet Detangler and it's a godsend. My mom stole my other one and she has curly hair that tangles pretty bad cause she goes days without washing and she swears by it now too.

I comb, with a fork with slim prongs and/or a fine-toothed comb. I'm not always at patient as I should be, and along with the age of my ends it's starting to show now.

Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness

Oh yep, definitely don't brush your hair when in a hurry. If you are in a hurry, best to then just throw it up and comb/brush what is visible, leave the rest to later.

I take my time. I only brush before my wash (dry) and when it gets out of the towel (damp). Dry I have to be most careful with it, because it still has remnants of styling products in it from the previous week.

Yes and strangely enough, after putting it up, the more mild tangles seem to sort themselves out on their own!

I don't brush or comb, but I think I've gotten pretty skillful at detangling with my fingers over the years (also only when it's dry). I've learned to work in small sections from the outside layers in. Most tangles fall apart with a few strokes of my fingers (sometimes I can even shake them out). However, on the rare occasion I'll let my guard down and hear the dreaded SNAP. Even the gentlest of detangling methods will have a cumulative effect over the years, so just do your best.

For gentle detangling, I don’t think there’s any beating finger detangling. I finger comb really quick, smooth everything with a tangle teezer, and then give myself a little scalp massage and distribute oils (used to be a BBB, now using a Tek). I get waaay more snapping when using a comb or brushing without finger detangling first, regardless of how careful I am.

Yes. I have had that happen as well.

Me too, one of the strangest things about really long hair. I rarely "detangle" anymore after washing. It's magic

I'm not. I tend to be one of those "start at the top and yank it through" types. The first time my mom was like, "you have to start at the bottom and work your way up," I thought she was nuts-- why would I want to have to brush the same section of hair like 7 times? And do that all the way around my head?

(Which is why I finger-comb-- because I can basically do that with my hands even though I can't with a brush or comb.)
Putting it in my signature because I have to say it so often:
Do what works for your hair, not what other people say is "right" or "wrong." If it works for you, it's not wrong. If it doesn't work for you, it's not right.
