I honestly cannot tell you. Whether or not I use cones, sometimes I have the most awesome waves ever and other times my hair goes so flat and limp that it's hard to remember how pretty it can be.
This one is for those with wavy and kinda-wavy hair (1c-2c). Do cones alter your wave pattern? If so, how?
I realize the answer may depend on which type of cone and how it is used. But generally, do you see a difference?
I like cones, but sometimes I think I get a bit more oomph to my waves when I go cone-free and use a bit of mineral oil as a leave-in. Wondering what everyone else's experience is.

It stays the same. I did a research about it and shared in my photo album. But combining with a Coney makes the whole difference: my hair is practically damage free.
ETA: putting a lot of coney conditioner flattens my waves. maybe I should stick with coating my hair with a looooot of conditioner....

I think maybe if you're barely wavy (1c/2a), anything that weighs down your hair (and that can be a coneless thick moisturizing conditioner too) will be bad for the waves in your hair.
That doesn't mean necessarily that silicones are the culprit and can be to blame for anything weighing down the hair. There's light silicone conditioners too that do not weigh down the hair.
I think this is largely dependent on the product itself, IMO.
I condition twice after a sulfate wash, often still do ROO, and my waves are pretty much *there*. They're even more there than in my hairtyping picture when I follow it with the LOC/LCO method. I do use silicones! I find it doesn't affect it one bit.
Its 50/50 really. Nothing I notice.

Pretty much what spidermom said. I tried cone free for awhile but didn't noticed a difference in my waves, just the tangled mess it caused. Recently I started using a coney conditioner for wavy and curly hair, first time I used it, my waves looked amazing, second time my hair was practically straight after drying..but that is just how waves are, very unpredictable.
The only time I can see a huge difference in my wave pattern is after a clarify. Since I am a big cone abuser with easy build up, my waves and volume come back to life after a hard sulfate. It takes a good month for cones to start weighing my hair down.
You Zarkin Frood
My hair is easily weighed down so I don't indulge in cones unless I want limp hair.

My fine wispy silver LOVES cones and curls readily.
When I tried CG/no cone products my texture fell flat!
There is very little/no build up even though I also use add ins and a serum, but I clarify quarterly and also use sulfate shampoo.
My hair is not what you call very wavy, but it does have some little waves... And cones straighten them a lot! When I didn't use conditioner my hair was a lot more wavier (and when it was shorter)
