I'm ready to try this! I'm getting more and more used to have my hair up. I'm 19, but from age 0-17, I NEVER EVER wore my hair up. I always thought I was ugly with my hair up! I never even wore a ponytail. Since January I started actively going on LHC and I learned a couple nice updos. Now I'm ready for a short two weeks challenge, and maybe heading to a month after that. :)

I already sleep in a braid (paranda braid most of the time), will wear my hair up every single day to school/work and wear a loose bun with a hairstick or french braid at home. Starting tomorrow!

Yesterday I finished my 1 month challenge yay!!! I can't believe I made it through 1 whole month of wearing my hair up everyday after practically a lifetime of wearing it down most of the time. It feels weird to have it down now, so maybe this has made me more used to the idea of wearing it up and from now on I'll do it more, which is good.
I've checked my hair, there isn't noticeable new damage at the ends as expected, but one of these days when I have the time I will have to do some S&D anyway, for prevention. It feels longer on my back, but that might be because I'm not used to it being down anymore as I've said. I won't measure it for a week or 2 since I wasn't able to measure it until that much time had passed since the start of the challenge and in the meantime I'll wear it up as much as I can too. Just not all the time since I want to go back to a few halfups at least :P


I didn't vary my hairstyles much which is why I didn't do any posts on them, mostly doing lazybuns, pencil buns, the occasional ponytail and a lot of braids especially in the last couple of weeks (ponytail braids for gym and combinations of english and french, back and side for the daily).

Good luck to the rest of you! Will definitely be back for more once I've learned better styles and buns since it was very much worth it! :D

I made it 66 days up. Then I had a trim and deep conditioning treatment at Madora in NY. I hadn't had hair that straight and silky and smooth since I was 10! So I wore it down. 2 days. Even with the trim (anywhere from 1/2 to 1 inch, I am not sure exactly how much she took off) my hair feels sooooooo long. Not seeing it down for a month has it's rewards. It's back up now x 4 days. I have new hair forks to keep things interesting. Today it is up in a twisted sort of figure 8 so that it looks like a figure 8 peeking out of a french twist. A long fork makes this possible (thank you, Saphire-O)

In general, wearing hair up ALL of the time, is a generally poor idea as hair needs rest from being constantly drawn against its grain. This is why it's a bad idea to wear updo's to bed all the time. I also ended up with my hair in a ginormous knot and cut off all my hair from not undoing it. I had to cut it off to unfurl the knot it was so bad. And I also recommed you sleep nightly on a clean satin pillowcase; I recommend wearing the hair in double braids at night time. Detangle it in the opposite order you put it up in. That's the best way to ensure you won't get a knot.

I agree! I only do the challenges for a month and then stop for a few months. I also take my hair down and switch styles often during the day unless it's too complicated to change it. I'll have my hair down at home, or in a low (and loose) ponytail or braid. Too much strain/stress on the follicles can't be all that great for your hair. Everything in moderation!

Day 541: orchid bun with woodburned scoop top maple GTS fork. This bun holds amazingly well with a fork without pulling. It doesn't pull with a stick, either, but it is much looser and sometimes I have to redo it.
