I would like to try to wear my hair up with something other than a big claw clip! Having my hair up isn't the challenge, it's learning how to do it.

Right now, I made this up, I braided my hair as far as I could reach (I'm old..lol) then folded the braid up, tucking the loose ends underneath. Then I secured (in an unsecured-feeling way) with hair pins. I'm just hanging around home tonight so it's OK if it falls apart.

I like to browse through everyone's styles, and if I don't know what it is or how to do it, I go find a YouTube video on it. Torrin Paige has a bunch of great video tutorials and fun personality too.

I might be interested in this! I just... don't know what to do with my hair other than french-braiding it.

When I started I only really knew a few different hairstyles: regular 3-piece English braids, fishtail braids, the cinnabun, and French braids. I learned Dutch braiding, which is almost the same thing as French braiding but looks really unique when done with multi-tonal hair. I also learned to braid with four strands of hair instead of three. I also learned how to French twist just the other day! There's so many simple variations you can do to really change things up without much effort. For instance, sock buns are easy and you can braid small sections of your hair into them to add variety. Basically, you'd be surprised what checking other posts leads you to try! :) Good luck!!

Day 76 apparently, thanks to a "duration between two dates" calculator I found.
When I'm awake I find it hard to keep my hair down for more than maybe an hour. I actually wore my hair down on halloween for the entire duration of trick-or-treating. Surprising.
I've gotten lazy and started wearing it down to bed, though. Once my hair is too long for the pillowcase I'm going to need a satin sheet or a satin sleep cap.

My go-to styles have been: "ponytail bun" and "twist hair up - fold in half - ends tucked away into strange loop type thing - hold with clip." lol.
I really need my hair to get longer so I can stop wearing the same styles every day. That CANT be good for my hair.

hmmm okay I will do this until end of year. Noting in advance that this weekend is a big going away with husband one and he likes the hair down so will be probably half ups friday/saturday/sunday

Day 1 {yesterday} bun ~ don't know what it is called... regular bun then fork inserted diagonally from nape up and flipped over so it looks kinda like a chignon

Day 2 {today} regular english braid side of head instead of back

You started about a week after me and we both did our first lazy wrap bun today (or probably yesterday when/if you see this) although I put my hair stick in on the other side. I think that's a pretty cool coincidence :) How long is your hair?

Actually, I put my stick in the opposite side. This is a mirror image. I usually insert sticks on my right. My hair is also MBL, at 29.25" when I measured on October 28th. I want different hair sticks, or a flexi 8. I'm so tired of my same old slippery plastic hair stick that always slips out after a few hours. We have similar length, texture, and volume, if your profile is up to date. Hello, hair twin (except, you're the prettier of the two, because you have waves/soft curls that I can only dream about or sleep on rag curls).

Yeah, basically. Everybody usually sets their own rules for the challenge, i.e., allow hair down x amount of days per month, or wear up x amount of hours per day, or wear up except for special occasions... Do what works best for you! :D

day 7 side braid that at one point I rolled into a bun and kept up with my new hair forks. They are not very long so I used two for stability.

This is surprisingly harder than I thought it would be. I am used to wearing braids but since I was going out all weekend I wanted something different and usually it is braids for sleeping {or left over from sleeping} vs half ups. At least I had come into it thinking weekend out with the beloved so will wear down part of time. Onto the rest of year.....

I'm gonna do this until Christmas, I think. I'd like to do it for a long period of time but that's my current goal as it's short and attainable.

Day 1 (as in, 24-hour period started at midnight, will readjust if necessary): messy horrible first attempt at a vortex bun, since that's November's style. It's not pretty, but it's VERY light-feeling and my scalp isn't being pulled, and it is holding quite well with nothing but itself and a 60th Street. Maybe next time I will try pinning it so it can look the way it's supposed to.
I've never used anything but a generic cinnabun successfully before so I'm excited to try new things!

day 8 another wash day.... I think the conditioner only washing is keeping my head super moisturized {yay esp in winter} but then it gets scritchy faster. Anyway it took days and days for it to dry last time or maybe I hadn't rinsed properly and it took days and days for my hair to soak up all the conditioner so either way I am keeping my hair in a half up until it dries {it was 10 degrees for yesterdays low so no going out with wet wet hair} and then doing my quickie twist and using claw from half up to hold ends near top.

Day 27 (continued): I decided to try out a disk bun. It took me a few tries, but I got it, and it's holding very well. I just wish I had something besides this same plain plastic stick to hold it. I want something pretty to put in my hair. A stick with a topper, or a flexi8. My small Ficcare is too small for this bun. I really should have ordered a medium, but I'm keeping my small because my daughters will use it as they grow to longer lengths, and it's still good for half-ups on my own head.

Day two: boring cinnabun as usual, though weirdly flipped so it's not behind my head for sleep. Wearing my Ketylos for sleeping as they're my shortest, but might switch to something more decorative when I go to school. Will adjust when I wake up.

November has ended and my original challenge has too. I will however continue this throughout winter, so a couple months more of updos ahead. :) For my extended challenge I will however allow myself to keep my hair down on special occasions if I feel like it. I will keep on trying to use buns as much as possible to keep my hair protected (at least at work, the collar on the shirt and hoodie I have to wear is killing my hair..) but braids are occasionally allowed. I still need to learn more updos too.. Bring on December!
