I'm doing this challenge again. I wear my hair up most of the time, but have started getting a bit inconsistent with it. Each time I go to bed a bit too lazy to do a braid or pop to the shop without protecting my hair from my scarf, I end up losing so much hair due to tangles! My hair just wraps itself up in knots the minute I let it down anywhere where there's a hint of a chance of rubbing or friction or wind.

I started last Friday, so I've had 6 consecutive days so far. I wore a braided bun most of the time, with one nautilus and one equilibrum bun day too. I plan to go until the 28th of Feb, so a month from now.

I haven't been on the challenge for a long period, but I did it for two months last year (May-June, I think) and have worn my hair mainly (though not as diligently) up in protective styles ever since. I can really tell the difference when detangling - my hair is a matted mess if it's down for a day. I'm sure this will also have a positive effect on thickness in the long-run, as I don't keep losing hair to disastrous tangles. It has not been long enough to really tell the difference in e.g. braid taper yet though.

I don't, but it depends on what you want to get our the challenge. I don't think half-ups are good protective styles, but if you're interested in varying the way you wear your hair and learning you styles, I don't see why you couldn't include them as "up" days.
