I seem to have been doing this anyway, but have decided to join you all properly for the month of May to try and avoid getting a trim. Except for when my hair is drying/ I'm changing style etc.
So far all I've done is a nautilus bun with one hair stick because I'm trying to avoid using pins in case they damage my hair and I have only one hair stick until my order arrives. Speaking of which, does anyone have any idea how long standard postage from America to the UK is? Or if there are any places in the UK which do hairsticks/ forks because I simply cannot cope with waiting a month for my order to arrive every time and I seem to break plastic sticks very easily (thus why I am down to only one). Sorry if this last bit is off topic.

I wasn't happy with my bedtime dutch braid as it messes with my curl patten too much when i want to wear it loose. so today ive been learning how to do a french rope braid. I love rope braid buns but wanted to do one right down my head for night time. Took me a while and many tutorials and photos but i finally found a good method and managed it, not neat enough to wear in the daytime yet but i'll keep up the practice.

Anyone else a fan of the french rope braid? if anyone wants the tutorial i can post it

Me!! I think French rope braids are beautiful, but I haven't learned them yet... It's on my hairstyle "to do" list :D I would love to see the tutorial, I'm kinda lousy at French and Dutch braids so I need all the help I can get ;)

Its definitly the least complicated tutorial out there, it only requires twisting one side at a time and shows a two strand braid. Good luck :)

I've been doing this challenge without really noticing/trying. I'm super busy and bunning with coconut oil on the ends is the easiest, healthiest styling option at the moment. Since I've been doing this about a month ago, the condition of my ends improved drastically. Smooth as silk :p! I can't wait to see the condition of my hair this time next month!

Yes they have got mini spin pins by goody, they come in a pack of three and say they are for doing smaller half up buns etc but with my thin hair I actually use 2 to hold all my hair in a bun, the regular sized ones would stick straight out haha:o

Well I haven't officially 'signed up' to the challenge but today I realised that I have worn my hair up everyday for the last 28 days! :happydance:
That's a big thing for me as my hair is only just long enough to do anything interesting with & I generally prefer my hair down. I'm hoping it will distract me from the length and improve the condition of the ends.
I wont bore with a list of what I wore each day (I currently keep a hair diary so I know what I wore when), but it was french twists, peacock twists, ponytails, gibson tucks & variation with hair sticks, bun twists with claw clip.

every day just some messy bun with 2 or 3 sticks. I'm annoyed. Why can everybody make a bun at APL with one stick and why can't I do anything that requires my hair being twisted just once, at MBL???? I'm such an antitalent and this hair is so weird. All my buns are messy. The best I can do is to Dutch braid it and pin it up, but even that requires two sticks to stay up.

And btw there was no way for me to braid it at APL either. Everybody else can do it. **** me!

Thanks for the hug! However, my hair is not that uberthick. It's around 10.5-11cm now (borderline iii). I really hope we can be friends as it grows longer. I don't hate it anymore (as I did at APL...BSL), that's a progress. In all honesty, I'm still better off with 2 or 3 sticks than 1 ponytail because the sticks don't hurt, while the pony gives me a headache.
I've just considered the $$$$ aspects of it and freaked out; I want some custom-made sticks on Etsy and well, I can't get away with just one stick, I need at least two from the same seller if I want to look any decent. LOL.

How about a peacock twist? Those are cute with curls spilling out the top. :)
And a french braid from the nape of the neck up to the crown with the hair coming out loose at the top could be cute, too.
If you want to try a half-up, you can find a lot of videos on YouTube for waterfall french braids, which look awesome in curls. (I do this one a lot, and it's shorter-hair-friendly.)
You could also try the gibson tuck, especially if you have a cute clip to decorate with.
And at your length, a crown braid should be possible, depending on your braiding skills. (French/Dutch braid around the entire head.)
And if all else fails, you can at least do ponytails of varying heights. :)

I won't keep counting, because I'm getting a bit tired of doing so already! :)

As for whether I'll stop at classic... I don't know. It all depends, I think, on whether it becomes too awkward to manage at longer lengths, so I suppose I won't know until I get there and see what it's like! I'm contemplating fingertip length (and I must admit that when I see some of the lovely knee-length tresses on this board I start thinking "hmmm... what if?"), but in the end I suppose I'll stop at whatever length is long enough to feel Really Long and still short enough to be relatively easy to detangle. I'll let you know, oh, about five years from now! :D
