People use the forum in different ways. I access the individual boards via their links from the forum 'home' page, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. You're of course not the only one to just look at the new posts (I think I've seen you mention that before?) But if you're concerned about personal info, a quick glance to the top of the page will tell you exactly where you're posting. People absolutely have a right to be cautious about posting more personal stuff but really the onus is on each of us to exercise that caution. Yes it's easy to make mistakes, but this type of mistake is easily prevented - and posts can of course easily be edited if need be
Edit: and the newbies posting those threads in the mane forum obviously don't have a problem with them being public, otherwise they wouldn't start them
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness
I had been a member here for a long time before even realizing that some parts of the forum wasn't public. When posting antyhing on the internet, I always assume that everything can be seen by anyone, so I never post anything too private.
Personally I don't care if the swap board is visible or not

I can currently see the banner while logged in. While I see how it could be distracting to some, I find it helpful. I spent a lot of time hunting down those resources in different parts of the site before!
I think the best thing for the seasonal swap threads, would be a seperate sub forum under the selling board I personally feel like it fits better there, and the criteria for the meet-up board is too strict It makes the swap board less cluttered too, and makes it easier for people to snoop their giftee in older swaps too
Third-ed! (Second seconded?) It seems to be a big enough part of LHC culture that it merits a subforum. When active it basically sits at the top of the swap forum anyway for months at a time, might as well move it up a centimeter into its own category. Meet-ups have a sub-forum, and they seem to occur less frequently/draw less participation than swaps. What a great idea Pixie!

I don't see a banner but I have adblock activated.
The swapboard has always been public as far as I know.
Not a problem.
Personal details can be swapped in PMs.

There's a new Winter Swap up and going (yay!) and I couldn't remember how this discussion was resolved back when I raised the issue of swap board settings back in 2019, so I looked this thread up and was reading through the conversation again. I hope it's ok for me to bump this: there seemed to be a fair amount of consensus on creating a member-only sub-forum in Swaps for Gifting swaps, but nothing came of it. Any chance we could revisit this suggestion? I would really appreciate it, as the level of conversations, picture- and life-sharing that goes on in a gift swap is more akin to other member-only areas (crafts and hobbies, friendship boards, etc.) than general sales. I would feel more comfortable posting knowing that only users with full-membership could see my posts, and not just anyone on the internet.
A lurker who loves swaps
I'll report your post so that all the mods notice it, but my guess is that the decision will be "no." However, you should only share publicly what you are comfortable with! In previous swaps, I've sometimes sent the swap organizer an email to be passed on to my gifter, if there was info that I didn't want to put publicly.
