Question re public boards

I just don't see the necessity of having a member-only gift-swap made public. In the one other online community I did a comparable Secret Santa style swap, it was kept to the password-protected part of the site since we were all posting photos (some including us in them, although that was optional).

Even if I hold back truly personal details in LHC gift swaps, a lot of information about my tastes will be apparent through the questions I do answer in the thread and the gifts that are made or selected for me (last time someone painted my dog). My gifts also reflect my local area (seasonal food products...), and information about me (my own signed art, for example). I'd prefer if that were not one google search away from anyone on the internet.

Hopefully it is not too much trouble to create, I think it would be neat to separate the gift swap threads from sales (they are after all quite a different entity), and would give those like me that are more privacy-concerned some peace of mind. I personally don't see any downsides to this change.

Yay! [Rereading this thread it seems I previously didn't understand the need for it but Hailwidis' post helped me see why people would want a private board for the swaps.]
