Smile The many textures and patterns of curly and wavy hair

I would love to see the variety in people's natural hair texture depending on many factors!

For me, the most drastic changes happen in these scenarios: simply with time, the longer it is since last styling; after I sleep on it; after I had a bun/ponytail; after finger-detangling; after combing; if I simply don't style my hair at all. The mentioned things generally lead to me losing the curly texture and my hair turns into chaotic but subtle waves, sometimes with bigger curl near the end.

So for a fun comparison, here is my hair with its two very different looks!

(Link in case the image doesn't work.)
I would also like to add that I'm still quite new on my journey to embrace my hair in its natural state so I suspect it will continue changing as I learn more about it.
It's still scary to wear it loose in public but I'm getting there!

So, does your hair look so different sometimes that people suspect that you spent the morning with a curler/straightener?

Seeing others' photos would be fun!!

EDIT: If you are looking for general variation in how hair looks like (no matter the hair type or reasons), there's a great older thread here!!
I would still absolutely love to see or hear about curl pattern differences specifically, if anyone felt like sharing their experience. :)

I don't know why, but I thought it was only me this happened to! In fact, I didn't think my hair was actually curly for years because it dries so straight if I don't style it properly.

Here are my curls after washing

And here they are after being combed out and bunned. Where did they go?!

Hmm I purposely stretch my hair using braids as soon as I wash so I don't know if my hair textures count here. I never encourage my hair to curl how it naturally wants to.

You both have lovely soft curls and spirals

Everyday post was my curls get smaller and tighter. I'm pretty sure curly hair is just possessed by a 2-year-old demon.

There's a very similar thread to this one, in case anyone's interested.

It's titled, "your hair is never the same":

All of this! I also didn't even realize my hair is curly for the longest time (usually, it would be straight-ish due to combing, and it would only get curly after a few days, forming ringlets near the ends) & I kind of assumed people had more... stable experiences with their textures, as I really struggle with hairtyping mine. Btw, your hair looks very lovely either way!!

Thank you! And that's okay, it's still interesting to hear of people's experiences!

That sounds fun! Do you have any photos of the difference? It'd be really interesting to see.

Thanks so much for bringing it to my attention, I hope it gets revived after so long!
It is not quite what I was looking for, being a lot more broad category, this could have been a sub-thread if there was such a function. But I searched through it and found a few curlies!

Awesome. My intention was to cheer up people who get down on themselves so badly because of a picture. Often I need to re-take my pictures like 10 times because then there's a gaping hole, then that part doesn't lay properly. Anyway, hair is a vibrant lively thing and you almost can't capture it.

blackgothicdoll, those are some pretty curls! Your hair doesn't look damage to me. It looks fine. Just keep on babying it and deep conditioning it.
