Do you think that shininess might be more of a product of individual strand thickness? It would make some sense that a finer strand would have less light bounce off of it... right?

Not really. It’s down to texture.

I voted I have type 4 hair with no shine, and that’s COMPLETELY normal due to having kinky textured hair. My hairs Health is denoted by how soft and plush it is, not by shine or even sheen.

My hair is 1b and not shiny. It's not fair my hair is straight and brown and yet I can't have shiny hair lol.

Mine is type 1 and naturally shiny, at least when it is freshly washed. It gets dull very quickly though.

Pre-puberty I had type 1 hair (b/c texture) and it was way shinier than it is when it fell out on me in parts early puberty and went type 2. You can see it in class pictures, suddenly there's this mound of frizz on my head. Year 7 I had a nice shiny pixie. Year 8 that was a square shaped poof on my head.

I mean you can even see it in my signature. I wouldn't call that a whole lot of shine. Bit medium, but still...
