Henna/cassia or Adore dye

So I'm in desperate need to do my roots. But I'm really unsure as to what to continue doing with my colour now.

Pro's and con's:

Henna/cassia is more predictable in colour, I've never tried Adore so I have no idea if the colour (French cognac) will be as I think it will, as with henna/cassia I know the result will not be bad; I know how it will be.
It is a bit more expensive though, and Hennacat uses ages to send my package, and even though I pay for tracked shipping I never get a tracking number. It takes almost three weeks to arrive from UK to Norway...

Adore is cheaper and will arrive faster, but no idea how the colour will end up on my hour. Then again, it's only semi permanent so I can get it out if I don't like it. But what if it's terrible?

Ngggh. I don't know what to choose! Any input? More pros/cons I haven't thought about?

Get both the henna + the Adore & strand test. It's the only way you'll know. Don't just apply it to your hair without knowing how it will turn out. You'll have some weeks to collect shed hair until the dye arrives.

Then I'd stick with the henna. At least the outcome is *known*. It's a safe bet. The Adore dye is a gamble. If you can't afford that much, then don't gamble. What are you going to dye with when the Adore patch tests badly? Surely you aren't going to just mush that on your head straight away without a patch test?

Pfft, it's a semi, it'll fade out eventually.

The problem is, it won't match your hennaed hair unless you do some experimenting with color-mixing, so if you use Adore you will probably have to do your whole head. And it does fade out, so you will need to redo it on occasion, which ends up being more expensive than henna in the long run.

On the other hand, if you're asking because you're unsure if you want to keep your current hair color or grow it out, then go with the less permanent option.

Nothing will match with my current colour; when it got bleached in May, she didn't bleach it down all the way down to the roots, and next to the vibrant copper, the un-bleached parts look like a dull, grey brown. It's so ugly. Neither hennacassia or adore will cover that, so I gotta live with it until it grows out in 10 years or so You can see it in my signature, in the partings between the braid sections. It doesn't look too bad there, but it really is ugly. So I'm f***** there anyway. I need to do my entire head no matter which one I choose to at even it out as much as I can. And Adore is about 3 GPB per bottle, I'll probably need 3, so that's 9 GBP, enough henna and cassia for my whole head costs 20 GBP (prices not including shipping). So the Adore is still cheaper.

Adore won't last. But I can do my whole length (which looks comparable thickness to your sig) with a bottle.

Wow, that's amazing you can do your entire length with one bottle Anje! I know Adore is only pigments and won't last as long as anything else



I talked it over with my husband yesterday. Actually I had a little breakdown to be honest. I love the colour of my bleached hair, but I loathe how the unbleached parts look, and I'm angry knowing that my hair will not look halfway even before the unbleached part has grown all the way down to TBL and I can cut it off, which will take years and years. You can see it better in these pictures:


On the left picture, notice the grayish areas up near the crown. When I wear my hair loose they look like greyish brown stripes.


My partings are very rough here, so you can easily see the difference in the root area; it's much darker and duller.

And here you can see how abrupt the change is, on the right side of my head; it's a clear line, not even a soft transition:



So what I have decided is to this time to use a permanent hair dye to, to even out that as much as possible. I've researched and I know which dye I'm gonna use, the results look like this:

Even taking into account colours will look different because of underlying hair colour/ lighting conditions when picture is taken/ screen differences (I've looked at the picture on 4 different devises with different screen brightness, in both daylight and lamplight), I think that is a colour that will work very well for me. I'm willing to take the chance that my scalp will be a bit annoyed at me and the slight damage it'll do to even out my current colour.

And if it fails miserably, well, then I'll just go back to pure henna again to cover it. I can live a few weeks with a failed hair colour until I get paid again and can buy henna. It's not the end of the world!

If you like your existing red, I'd henna it.
My roots are baby-poop brown too, and I henna those bad boys every couple of weeks! Henna softens existing demarcation lines and blends in my grays. I use a henna gloss (1 part dye released henna + 3 parts condish), leave it on for a couple of hours, and it straightens things right up. A box of henna lasts a REALLY long time for me.

ETA: I've also used Adore, and Manic Panic for fun accents. Those colors last a super long time for me, too. My hair is very low-porosity, if that has anything to do with it.
