    Default Plz help a newbe!

So I'm new trying to grow my hair out. Any and all advice is welcome. I used to have hair down to my knees. Till somebody talked me into getting it cut to my shoulders. I'm looking to grow it out but I also want long healthy hair. I'm looking for advice on just about everything! Lol! I have pokey straight blonde hair. Now it's about to my bra strap. Any advice for a new person? What I should be using for shampoo anything that you would stay away from. Anything I should be using in my hair. And any tips on no poo but I've been hearing a lot about. Thank you in advance!

Just take your time and read a lot on here, that's your best bet to finding out lots of new things.

Shampoo, any cheap sulfate shampoo will do, unless you want to go sulfate-free. It all depends on what your hair approves of (yes it's its own entity ) and likes.

    Welcome!

If you managed to grow it to knee before (and if you were satisfied with the condition it was in then) I'd just do whatever you used to do. Obviously it works! There's no need for fancy shampoo or anything - like Lapushka says, it's all about what your hair wants, not what you want.

I really wouldn't recommend no poo. Yes, it was very popular for a while, but due to the "all natural" brigade wanting something "natural" and low-ingredient. With long-term use, it is almost always very damaging to hair. There's now lots of debunks of the method, e.g.:

Yes, whatever you do, don't wash with Baking Soda! You can go no-poo or low poo, but whatever you do, stay away from the BS, it's BS!

    Welcome!

You ask such big questions it would take hours to answer to them, and there is a possibility the things I'd write wouldn't work for your particular hair/scalp.

I agree with Lapushka, to read around the forums, and absorb the information. You have an advantage of knowing your hair can do this. Keep things simple, stick to the thing you know worked/work for you, and allow the time the growth needs. Avarage person grows half an inch per month, so you will need to be patient.

Oh, and one more thing: enjoy each length, the different lengths are all fun, annd there are always updos and braids and styles you grow into and out of. Each length has it's unique beauty, and I see so many people here ignoring this aspect. Enjoy the process, that's important!

Thank you everyone for all the advice. I don't remember a time when it wasn't long. I do however remember a using a kids shampoo. Wondering if that would work lol. Might just try it.

Well if it worked for you, that kids' shampoo, why not? I mean, it's all about what works for you and your hair. Each head of hair/scalp is different!
