Hey'all.

A friend referred me here-
I'm pleasantly surprised to learn some stuff about my hair type.


My hair is ~22", an average growth of ~5.8 inches per year.
Using that FIA hair classification system, I am:
Type 1b
Fine hair
Volume of hair: thick (4.5 inches in circumference)

I've been growing my hair out from a buzz 07/01/2011,
so almost 4 years of growth.
Last haircut/trimming was May 2012, about 3 years ago.
Last time shampooing ~ November 2013, about 1 1/2 years ago.
Last time conditioning with apple cider vinegar ~March 2014, about a year ago.
Never brushed, blow dried, styled with a product.
I put argan oil in it infrequently, maybe 2x a month.
I know I don't maintain a regimine conducive to long term hair health and I'm OK with that.
I just want to be wild.

Quick question: I wear my hair in front, and it's down past my ribs by a centimeter or two.
When will I be to waist length given my average rate of growth?
I'm really looking forward to that, as I feel like I've finally "made it" to a length I consider long.

Welcome to LHC! Your hair looks great! In answer to your question, measure from the ends of your hair to your waistline and find out how many inches that is. Allow two months' growth for every inch of distance and you should have an estimate of how long it will take you to grow to waist length.

I'm not 100% where my waist is technically speaking,
but it's probably only 2-3 more inches, so....6 months away maybe?
It's fun to look forward to a milestone, but I probably won't cut it until there's a reason to-
no plans to change anything for the foreseeable future.

Well, damn, your hair looks great! It reminds me of a lion's mane. Free locks seem to be working great for you! Just keep doing whatever you're doing!
By the way you describe it, I actually think your hair might already be waist or just a couple of centimeters off, to be honest. I don't think we will be able to tell without a typical 'LHC length shot', which is a picture of your back with your hair laying naturally.
How do you measure your hair? Do you measure from your hairline or from the top of your head? That actually makes a huge difference and I don't quite believe you're 'only' at 22" from looking at the picture. On here, we usually measure from the hairline, over the head and downwards. I hope that makes sense. In any way, I think you should be at waist in another 6 months maximum, if you aren't there already.

You have very beautiful hair which makes me jealous My husband and you have better hair than me !!!
I am also a new member on this awesome forum, to learn how to take better care of my hair in a natural way! I am sorry to bother you but I would like to ask you a few questions ...
*Do you use water only to wash your hair? And if so how do you do it? Simply just massaging the scalp?
*Your ends look in great condition!!! And you havent trimmed for 3 years!!! Did you notice if hair gets automatically drier and with splits because of shampoos? Because that is amazing!!!
