less than 4 hours
4-6 hours
6-8 hours
8-10 hours
10-12 hours
12+ hours
More specifically, how many hours before you need to or want to redo it?
ETA: Not in terms of stability of the bun itself, but in terms of your scalp's tolerance of it. I'm wondering if I need to work up to all day, or if I've just got a sensitive scalp!

JESUS, MY LORD AND SAVIOUR
All day. Braided buns and cinnamon buns stay put all day for me, I could even sleep on them if I wanted to.
I'm working up to all day. I love when I can get a comfy bun that stays all day. But usually I get bored or something gets uncomfortable or starts falling out.
I only bun my hair when I want braid waves, to tame the 'post shampoo poof', or to get it off my neck in Summer heat = 6-8 hours
Once up it is usually secure, but by evening I need to give my scalp a rest and enjoy a low/loose/comfy ponytail; I cannot sleep with buns either (sensitive scalp).

Two hours tops before I must take this thing off my head. My scalp has become ridiculously sensitive over the past couple of years, I can't wear buns at all, not even with a french braid to evenly distribute the weight of my hair. Same goes with ponytails, there's no way I'm wearing it for longer than a couple of hours. Maybe it's partly psychological, I'm scared to death of traction alopecia, so for me aching scalp equals "omg I'm going bald" panic.
I used to be able to wear buns for an entire day. They're a life-saver in the summer when I want my hair to be up and off of my slathered in greasy sunscreen neck and back.
I'm still to figure out what to do during summers and deep oil treatments that last for 5+ hours.

It stays from when I get up from bedrest in the morning (10/11AM) and stays until about midnight. It lasts the day for me. I never need to redo my bun. I did wait until I was at a length where that was possible, and wore a peacock twist before that.
All day, unless I've misjudged the tension (it happens occasionally) or I'm going out somewhere (very rare!) and want to neaten up my hair for the occasion.
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness
Mine is usually bunned 12+ hours but I redo it periodically, usually 2-3 times in a day
