    Default Help with caffeine %

    Hello my friends,

I know there is a lot of smart people here who like to make things for their hair,
and I was hoping some one could help me understand how the ratio works.

I'd like to try a caffeine spray, I think it would be fun to measure after a month or two and see if it does anything for me.

Using the info provided by the popular site here http://science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/2017/02/scientifically-tested-over-counter.html

It says using one fourth of a 200mg pill dissolved in a gallon of water, the end result is a concentration of about 1.3%

Which is where I get confused, because if a gallon of water is around 3,785 grams, then wouldn't 1% of something added be around 37.85 grams?

So how is 50 milligrams from the 200mg pill equal 1.3% ?

Not being a science type person myself, I just don't want to make a mistake and would like to understand it better.

I did google some threads about caffeine on here, but no where did I find info about the percentage, they were mostly about rinses.
Much love to all my fellow long hair peoples!

    You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!

The quarter tab per gallon works out to be about 0.0013% (first study). The article has a few loose decimal points floating around so don't believe everything you read online and always go back to the original study to see whether it might apply to you

    Oh, I see!
Thank you so much for checking,
I'm glad I didn't waste a whole gallon for that small of an amount!
Think I'll use a whole lot less water.

And anyway, I really dislike the taste of coffee and energy drinks,
So if experimenting with pills doesn't work out,
I can always take them on days I'm too tired I suppose!
Much love to all my fellow long hair peoples!

I’m curious to hear if you notice any change.
I actually just ordered some liquid caffeine for cosmetics. Just a small amount because I had to order over $25 for free shipping and there are enough people who swear by caffeine to the scalp so I added a $4 bottle.
I’m not sure what to do with it.

Well, now that you mentioned energy drinks... and here's me going to "the dark side" LOL but you know people use beer on here right, and let the beer stay opened for a while so it goes flat? Well why not do the same with energy drinks and make a rinse out of it, just like with the beer.

Maybe it's even already a thing!

Ooh liquid sounds easier than the powder capsules I bought, darn.
And yeah for sure I will make a post eventually if it helps any, I have a pretty average growth rate so should be easy to measure if anything changes!

Oh yeah: that! Had not thought of that!
The consistency of the thing might be a no-go!

Mods, you can remove this comment if I'm violating something
I've experimented with coffee, caffeine tablets, etc. Right now, I'm using this because it has caffeine in it, along with biotin. I use it once a day. I won't vouch for it's effectiveness, but I do like that it's a light oil, so my hair doesn't turn in to a sticky/heavy mess.
