A woman I work with always tells me what shiny hair I have and asks me how I do it, and I always tell her, "Henna!" She doesn't want to change the color of her gray hair though. I thought cassia was a clear gloss, but it looks like it would make grey hair blonde. Are there any plants out there that act as a glosser like henna without changing the color? Thanks!

Cassia/senna is quite yellow. It doesn't really show on darker hair, but I definitely wouldn't go that way for gray or pale ash blond hair.
There is an herb called sedr or Ziziphus spina christi that is supposed to be similarly conditioning but colorless. I haven't tried it myself, but that's the first thing I'd try for gray.

Cassia will make her hair a yellowish blonde, esp. if she's got a lot of whites in the gray. Not the best option out there.
Sedr!!
I've used Nightblooming's Elistraee Colorless conditioner. It leaves my hair clean, soft, shiny, and feels much more volumous. It's not a strong as henna or cassia, in my opinion, but it's PERFECT for when I don't want any tones deposited and just want some benefits from herbal mix.
If you just want gloss for grey hair why not use a couple of drops of mineral oil and stroke it through your hair? It gives great shine.

I'll second Sarahlabyrinth. I love mineral oil for shine; since I started using it (Walmart version of lavender baby oil) I've gotten several compliments on 'shine' and 'sparkle' Plus, it's a very inexpensive thing to try.
