The first hairtoy I used for sleeping was a Ketylo that was literally the same width as my bun. Didn't feel a thing and kept it in place (mostly - I was still learning how to construct sturdy buns at the time). A small, unobtrusive fork - basically like an oversized U-pin - the same width as your bun might also work. Either that or braid the end and pin it up, with a spin pin if it's thick enough? Should be alright for sleeping. Ooooh or braid a mini paranda into the end so the ends are protected and no tools needed
You know... a upin or spin pin may work. Don't have any upins sadly but i do have some spin pins around somewhere. My lwb is basically like a cantilevered house. XD sadly, tension alopecia is a thing and it sucks. i do have some success with twirling the tassel, wrapping it around the outside of the bun, then shoving the very end under the lwb and hoping the tension will keep it in place (it's what i have now actually). My hair is too thick to use a paranda on for a bun. >< I have a couple for braids but the fabric (specialty "yarn") does this weird drying out of my hair. :s

Also, when my hair is freshly washed, it's SUPER poofy, so i even struggle to put it into a lwb. after time goes by, my hair becomes more oily and more tension is needed to keep it from slipping out of the bun. It's a pita. T_T

Ok, so back to the tension alopecia thing. Before i swapped to a lwb for protection, i kept my hair in a single braid all the time for the same reason. My hair is too thick so, over time, the single braid didn't protect my hair from matting anymore. To try and keep my hair from matting, back then, i kept braiding my hair tighter and tighter. Which of course led to the front of my hair getting pulled out. >< As far as THAT goes, the lwb is similarly pulling at my hair. I have a lot of regrown hair around my face that is around chin length. Not like bangs, it's not that much that i've lost, just some frizzies lol. So i'm trying to think of some new way to keep my hair protected that doesn't also pull my hair out. :s I tried doing two braids for a while but the joint pain i deal with says nah.
May as well have fun with the hair!

I detangle from the bottom to the top.
Hold up the ends, detangle, work my way up.

LWB and Nautilus have never worked for my hair, just does not stay.
Maybe my hair is too thin or too slippery for those buns.
A braided bun or a knotbun works best for me.
