I've been using vit C to chelate and no, its not lightened my natural hair.
I smash up 2-3 vit c tablets, mix them into some shampoo and apply the mess to damp hair. Lather well, cover with plastic and let it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse really well, shampoo again if you want, it helps get the vitamin residue out. Condition well.
I don't know if its gentler than chelating shampoo but works better and my hair is always super soft afterwards. It might be a bit tangly at first when wet but that quickly goes away with conditioner. If I use sulfate free shampoo, it even gentler.
Thanks for the info Obsidian and PixieP. I'm looking for a gentler way to chelate than Joico. This looks perfect.
Life's short...Buy the hair toy...
Nothing at all! Have always been too afraid to experiment with my hair so I have never coloured or permed or straightened or anything. I already have pretty thin and fine hair, partly due to heredity I guess.
Also they are very dark brown to black so I was looking for a natural way to lighten them as braids and buns are not visible in my hair at all
Did my first ever vitamin c treatment last night.
Used Obsidian's recipe mentioned earlier.
Took 3 vitamin c tablets , crushed them, mixed with a little water to dissolve, mixed it with Shea Moisture moisture retention shampoo.
Lathered , left on for 15 min under a plastic cap, rinsed out , shampooed again with the Shea Moisture, conditioned with Garnier Pure Clean, rinsed it out, citric acid rinse, left in.
3 drops of sweet almond oil to seal in moisture.Air dried.
My hair is so soft. The hair and scalp are very happy.
How often can I do this without damaging my hair or drying it out?
