I was curious if anyone can help me a bit with a volume problem I have been having lately.
Last time I went to the salon I wanted to change up my look just a tad without sacrificing overall length. So, I asked for a long feathered shag and my stylist went to town with the razor. Now, it is really falling flat. When I got a similar cut in the past I would amp up the volume by blow drying upside down but I would really like to avoid heat while growing it out. To top things off I don't really want to put any nasty products in it.
With all that in mind, I'm curious if there are any ways that I can braid it or put it up that will give me a boost at the roots to create a bit of fullness until these layers grow a bit longer.
The longest layers are bsl (18" for me because I'm short) and the shortest (at the back of my head for some reason?) seem to be around 4-5".
It's not a terrible cut. I like layers I have 2b hair and usually layers really show the waves off...but I think this time he could have done a lot less with the razor. It's never looked this flat in the past.
Thank you Fern.
How can you tell if you have split ends? The bottom inch or so of my hair is thinner than the rest, and feels rough, but I'm not sure if i have split ends. What do splits look like?
Literally a split. When you look closely at your hair, individual strands will have split in two at the end. Sometimes the spit will just be a millimeter or two long, bad ones can be an inch or more. Sometimes there will be multiply splits, right after each other. Usually they're at the end, but occasionally a bit breaks off the strand further up. You can often find them easily by looking for the bits that stick sideways out of your hair. Or hold the ends up to a light source. Your computer screen works well.
Yeah, I recommend laptop screen also. Good white/neutral background works best, like the one this forum hasThinner ends (fairy tale ends) are natural. You can try babying your rough ends back to health but I would personally trim them if that's their constant state. Don't want tangles and I always get bad tangles when my ends get rough and crunchy.

Sorry I seem to have loads of questions but I’m really keen to do everything I can to help my hair grow. I was looking into trying a cinnabun but from what I can see you have to first put it in a ponytail then make the bun. I thought on here lots of you say not to put hair in a ponytail as it puts stress on the hair so I’m a little confused. As someone who has never worn buns apart from messy buns pre LHC I am really interested in trying buns but I just want to check I’d be doing them right. I’m looking for some ‘safe’ styles to put my hair up in day to day so would really appreciate any recommendations please. My hair is fine & blonde highlighted - the ends are still pretty damaged so I’m looking for protective styles.
You can do it without securing a ponytail, it's just formed into one, i.e. all gathered and held together. Then start twisting, no need for any hairties![]()
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness
