I damaged it with bleaching and also ended up with tangly, crunchy hair that would snap off on its own in one inch sections. I oiled, put it up and waited until the virgin hair was long enough to do a big chop and not end up with a pixie. It sucks, I know. I KNOW! I hated the feel of my hair. You need patience for this journey, and it will happen, I promise. Please be more gentle with yourself.

We're not supposed to pluck hairs out of our heads... that includes you!
It's just so frustrating. I do LOC and I keep my hair up but as soon as I let it down to brush it out I can feel the crunchy hair and it irks me. I do put oil on the ends sometimes before I go to bed or go out because the air is dry as hell, should I keep doing that?

Mammasaurusrex good luck with the shampoo bar thread. The other thing I changed after joining LHC was taking some of the vitamins listed on the vitamin thread. I get tired of taking all the pills but I take the multi vitamin every day now, and I had not been taking any for years.

jfg1987 I am glad you still have lots of hair!! I wonder if when you are following the strand up to your scalp you can find a spot where it feels okay? Maybe then you could just cut it with your scissors? Even if you cut that strand and it is left 3 inches long, that is still not damaging the follicle and it is still 6 months of growth and would not stick straight out maybe.... )

I put a little water on my dry areas and a bit of the shea moisture smoothie on those pieces before I go out. It is crazy dry here and it helps a bit.

Since I only really stopped flat ironing 100% a month ago (drastically cut down starting in September) there isn't much virgin growth. Yeah I could go up most of the way and save an inch of hair, I suppose I'll do that instead. I have the Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie which I use on wash days, should I use it in between washes instead of the argan oil?

It may be you need to try some different oils. I am not very familiar with argan oil, but I know my hair loves olive oil and coconut oil makes it crunchy and dry. Also, looking at your avatar are you sure you aren't currier than you are thinking? Curly hair can be easily damaged by brushing. My hair didn't really start to grow until I threw out my brush. I wear my hair up, but I only finger comb and use a quick spritz of water and a drop of Olive or jojoba oil to smoothie the hairline and ends. No brushing.

That is a GREAT product. Just a tiny bit goes a long way. Play around with it to see if you need a bit of water to smooth it in. I did, but I'm not sure how others use it.

jfg1987, I think pili is on to something. Maybe it is time to stop treating your hair if it were straight and see if you can coax in some curls. Most frizz/poofiness is the hair trying to figure out where to go mot just dryness and/or damage. Does the Curly Girl method still work on heat-damaged hair?

It does indeed, though there is usually a demarcation line. I would go find the YouTube channel for Sunkissed Alba. She rehabbed her heat damaged hair beautifully.

jfg1987 I think these ladies are correct. Your hair looks like it would have fantastic curls if you don't brush it and give it tons of moisture. I had no idea my hair would get curly if I did this and it has worked for me. Not sure if my curls will last as they grow longer, but who knows. Yours looks like it would be pretty curly. I have done the LOC only a couple of times and I used argon oil because it is what I have on hand, and then the shea moisture afterwards. It works well!! When I only try to touch up my day 2 or 3 day hair with only oil it doesn't work as well as a little bit of water and then the shea moisture. I used to think I needed to either blow dry straight or curl my hair. Now it takes a long time to dry naturally, but with no heat, my hair looks so much better and with natural curls and waves. I will brush usually on washing day but really probably shouldn't.

I just watched sunkissed alba on youtube and she is great.

Today I felt like streched I really am at APL, so I did a towel test (actually it's a cardigan wrapped like a towel, but it's the same principle, right?) and I think I'll call it, what do you think? Can I call this APL???

ps. jfg1987 your hair would be lovely curly.

This picture was taken with natural light, but it wasn't really sunny.

It still has some redish undertones from the semi-permanent dye I used at the beggining of last year, but it's little, and mostly at the ends. Also my hair looks longer from the back than I thought it would. I hope that the shade 832 will bring a bit more of blonde to my hair.
That is definitely not 2a hair! The waves starting so quickly up top, and being braidwave-like, that is definite 2b all the way! At least!
