Default Am I doing this wrong?

I have bunheads hair pins that I bought recently. While they can and do hold alright, they almost always break hair upon entry (you can hear it). I'm tired of it! Do you ladies have any better suggestions? Do amish pins do the same thing?

Thanks for any suggestions! I may go to Sally's and pick up some more basic bobby pins, but the bobby pins I've used in the past often break hair upon removal. Sigh.

I have not seen those kind of pins so I am not sure but you might be able to file them down with a nail file if it's not pointy enough or smooth enough.

Some Amish pins have points and some are blunt so you just need to check. Every now and then spin pins get stuck because of the balls on the end but I have to much hair to really worry about one or two broken hairs

Huh. Not sure why you're getting breakage. My daughter does ballet and we use the bunheads pins weekly for her ballet bun. Never had an issue. Maybe you got a rough batch?

My Amish pins don't have the little balls at the end, and don't break ANY hair, but my hair spits them out and makes them v shape.... The color ( silver) is also really difficult to hide....

I wonder if you are hearing the pin scraping your scalp and not hair breaking? Just an idea.

I also haven't had a problem with bunheads. They're my go to for pinning it up for hot yoga, or when I need it up quickly and don't have time to futz with making a hairtoy look good

Sometimes the thin end of the pin hits a hair that's under tension (but the hair has to be under a lot of tension for this to happen). Are your updos loose enough?

lapushka, that's very possible. I have to have pretty tightly wound buns to get any real hold.

Thanks to all of your suggestions so far, along with the tutorial! I am still trying to figure this one out. :\ I will need to try a pin-up bun tomorrow using the directions above to see if I'm doing anything differently when I put the pins in, vs. what the directions say.
