Thread: Can't see photos in peoples comments

Default Can't see photos in peoples comments

Hello all! New to the site. I want to henna my hair, and love all the henna threads, but unfortunately I cannot see any of the photos people post of their henna results in their comments on those threads. Is this a permission issue? Or something to do with my browser? I've tried multiple browsers, as well as my phone, and still can't see any images.
I would love to get an idea of what recipes do to different base colors, so really hoping to fix this issue. TIA!

Hello and welcome! If the photos are before the update to https, then it's likely that they're not showing because they're http. There's also likely some permission involved if it's someone posting from their LHC albums.

If it's the https issue, you can fix it by quoting the post and adding in the "s" to the link when you copy and open it into a new browser tab.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

Some photos have been lost over time too - a lot were on Photobucket but they started charging for their hosting service and the photos were held to ransom!

What’s your base colour, and what sort of recipe are you thinking of?

ETA: Nightshade’s article about henna might answer some of your questions, if this link doesn’t work, you can use the Advanced search function to find one of her posts and the article is in her signature

Thanks Corvana! So when I am on LHC, it already shows https in the url. Does the s go away with older posts? Also, when was the switch?

Thank you so much for that article! With as much henna research as I've done, I never came across that one and it is super helpful.
My base color is the exact same color of Medvssa from the link you sent me. I love her henna result! That's almost exactly what I want. But I am told photos taken of henna in sunlight can be deceiving - looking super copper, but then brown inside. So if she had highlights before hennaing, or was in sunlight in that photo, it may not be as red as that in person. Ideally I want to be as copper as possible. But from all my research I know that dark hair cant go light copper. I think dark copper is possible, but I wanted to see more before/after photos to get an idea of how dark I can expect the henna to oxidize. I will be strand testing, but I dont think that always gives the best idea of what the whole head will look like. What I dont want is a dark auburny brown that only flares red in the sun. I want to be a natural looking redhead. For my recipe I was planning to use 50/50 morrocan henna and cassia, mixed with chamomile tea, and left on for 2 hours. Does that sound like a good mix for what I want?

The https isn't in the URL of the photos when added to the posts. So in the body of the original post it was (img=http://thisistheimageurl.hosting.jpg) or whatever, but now for it to be shown in a post it has to be (img=https://thisistheimageurl.hosting.jpg). But with []s and like... a real URL But that's just one cause of missing photos! Album privacy, photo deletion (from said albums), photobucket, and maybe even permission status all could contribute as well.

The switch was semi-recent, but I'm unsure as to when!

I think you might want to copy and paste most of this reply and start a new thread on the Henna sub forum, as I saw your thread about your post count not going up!

Hopefully Nightshade might be able to give you some advice because she has loads of experience and sells henna blends in her Etsy shop (Nightblooming) so might have a good idea of possible results.

My base colour is similar to yours, maybe a bit lighter, and I’ve only used straight henna or henna glosses, so I can’t comment on how a cassia mix would look. My hair does look brown/auburn indoors, unless it’s in good light. The red is more obvious now because I’m growing it out and I can see the difference!

Cassia and henna together certainly sound like the way forward if you want copper. See if you can get some advice from Nightshade though, she is likely to able to help more than me! I know that Nightshade made a thread about lightening with Sun In to get a better colour, you might want to have a look at that too.

I'm glad you found the article helpful! I did eventually expand that into an entire book ( Coloring Hair Naturally with Henna & Other Herbs), but it's a great place to start

Your goal and mine are really similar, to get as copper as possible. 50% cassia / 50% henna was still too red for me, and I use Fire Genasi (a blend I made) which is 35% henna and 65% senna, cassia, and other herbs.

Time-wise I think 2 hours is an excellent place to start. (I leave mine on for about 2.5 hours).

Thank you for the shout-outs It was the only reason I found this thread, honestly, I likely wouldn't have clicked on it if it hadn't come up in a search for my name

I wondered if that would happen I think of it like the Batman symbol swooping across the sky - I often want to tell people to put out the bat call to Nightshade
