    Default Hair candling

Is there already a thread on this one? Sorry, I'm an awkward newbie.

Have any of you ever dared to try hair candling to burn off split ends?

I used to play around with this idea when i was in high school, straightened my hair until there was damage all the way up my strands, and attempted it on a couple strands. I concluded it was a bad idea. It just makes the ends of your hair more damaged.

There have been many a thread... Conclusion? Just don't do it. At least, that's how I feel. One thing just has to go bad and woopla there goes your hair (in flames).

Your hair would stink for days and so dangerous! It wouldn't be worth it

Maybe I phrased the question wrong because I didn't think of trying to do it myself or encourage anyone trying it by themselves by no means. i would never ever do hair candling myself. What I meant to ask if anyone have tried velaterapia(hair candling/Brazilian split ends treatment) done by a professional?

I know, but still, even a pro can slip and hair is quite flammable especially if there's product on it (like say hairspray), and if they perform the service on dry unwashed hair, who knows what all you sprayed into your hair before going out. I mean... nah, I don't like it.

It isn't so much "dared" for me, it's "cared". I've never cared to take a flame to my hair. Nope. I'll seal the ends in a way that doesn't do damage. I certainly don't discount all of the old ways, but just because something was done in the old days doesn't mean it's a good idea. ;-)

Seems like a bad idea to me. In this case, scissors are way safer than fire.

I understand the idea behind it but I can't see how it could actually work - hair doesn't melt, it burns. There is no way of sealing cut/broken ends, beyond temporary measures like film-forming conditioning ingredients.
Length goal well and truly met, now just seeing how it grows ...
Picky scalp but easygoing hair, thank goodness
