Nothing for me yesterday, as I got to spend the day at the dentist. :shudder: BTW, a weird new milestone - my hair is now long enough once again to hang off the edge of the chair and get pulled by the dentist's knee. No more wearing it down to the dentist!

Today, an Aliarose bubblegum stick (Etsy), in the world's tiniest Chinese bun (and my first time at trying it). :D
I'm always a bit embarassed by my teeny little hair and nonexistant updo skills, but at least this thing is secure!!

Thanks for the compliments, ladies! One day I hope to be one of the ultra-long curl-heads, like AprilElf or Xandergrammy. :)

I'm now getting to the point where I'm going to have to start putting my "worn" toys into a box or something, otherwise I may forget which ones I have worn (especially with the Flexi-8s). ;)

This is not meant to be a hairtoy, but I found it too heavy to wear as a bracelet. Yes, it's a bracelet. I love orange and I found it slightly Harry Potter themed! So there! I've worn this to a couple of Harry Potter parties and got nice compliments. It's a plain bun held with Good Day pins and then I just wiggle the bracelet onto it. Never fallen out (but of course, I'm kinda careful all night).

They are a little wonky, but it is the end of a long day and they have held really well, so I'm happy. :)
Yes, we were playing today. I rolled a statistically unlikely number of ones (unlucky), while DH (the DM) rolled an unlikely number of 20s with the same dice (good for him, bad for the players)! Oh well. We still had fun. :P

Today's fork-inna-bun (or bun-onna-fork) is a cinnabun held by a Quattro fork. I love this fork because of the contrast and detail in the segmented section, and it also holds REALLY well. :)
Part of me thinks that it is a shame that Ron is known more for his metal sticks than for his forks, but I guess he does more of the sticks, so it is to be expected.

Thanks, rags. Continuing the monkthemonk theme from sapphire-o (like the stick; always amazed how shiny and...coherent your hair looks) and ohiolisa (I remember that fork coming up and really liked it), today's is his also, a three-prong fork in fuchsia dymondwood. Before anyone says anything about how it pops against my hair, that is entirely a camera artefact. This camera "pinks" everything, and it's very difficult to photograph dymondwood accurately anyway. IRL the fork is duller and more purple - actually more of a magenta than a fuchsia.

Yes, it's certainly doing that for me! For instance, I've found several sticks that just don't work well (oh yes, that's why I never wore them!). I've also noticed that I really miss my forks! :wail: (Luckily I've saved a couple of them for the end, thank goodness!)

Ok, today's toy is a bit weird. It's two black and white octopus clips holding a figure-8. Looks really strange because the black halves disappear into my hair but I like it. :D

I sooo want a flexi-8. And I don't even dare dream of having some Night Blooming sticks!

Okay - bad hair day alert!! This is what I get for doing a scalp wash before bed and sleeping on it uncombed. Mad, wiry, eccentric cat-lady hair (that's a joke, don't hurt me)!

Ya, DH called them "the white hands of Saruman". At least I don't have the horrible hair to go with them. :D

Cinnamon, I didn't alter the clips. They came that way. I suppose if you have some clips sitting around, you can take them apart and try. These were rather a rare find. They were made in France and have very high quality. I found them in a drugstore's clearance bin.

Nothing like jumpin' right in with both feet when the stream's just about to dry up! (Translation: Getting in very, VERY late in this challenge!).

But I have a good excuse - actually, several, as there's been a lot of not good stuff going on in the family and playing with my hair toys wasn't high on a priority list (like it is normally!).

So, if it's okay and I'll stop when the rest of you do - I've got several hair toys here that I've rarely, if ever, worn and this is a great incentive - I'll take the challenge with the following as my Day 1.

WendyG, lady, you have got to be producing these gorgeous items of yours in your basement, or something! I'm feeling so very second-class-citizen in comparison! ;o(

And the fabulous hair styles. What can you say, other than "Wow?!" Looks like we all should be on the next plane to New Zealand, as something down there is working magic on hair (is it the Vegamite?!).

Here's my Day 2 offering. Sorry that the style looks so shoddy - in real life, it looks much better! Really. It does. I swear..... (You'll have to take my word for it!)

Well, so much for all the titles and description stuff I wrote on the stupid photobucket pic. This day is NOT going well....

This is the "Beluga Mermaid" worn by a Beluga Mermaid, retired. It's dressing up an inverted Topsy braid and no matter what I did, I could not seem to get the end of that braid out of the picture (and the bobby pin that was holding it in)!

OhioLisa: Now I know who got that Monk fork! I came this close to bidding on it, but I figured it would go way too high. It looks gorgeous in your hair! (as do all the others)

Teazel, I love your pearl ponytail holder. Where did you get it?

Paper, it came with a book my sister gave me years ago: Hair - a book of braiding and styles by Anne Akers Johnson (Klutz Press). :)

And the fabulous hair styles. What can you say, other than "Wow?!" Looks like we all should be on the next plane to New Zealand, as something down there is working magic on hair (is it the Vegamite?!).

LOL! Well, I'm a Marmite girl. That Vegemite is gutless stuff.

Have fun with the challenge, Peggy! :)

Today, Day 3 for me, is a Baerris two-pronged which I broke and reglued a long time ago. I didn't send it back, as I seemed to be going through so many of her wonderful forks, I was too embarrassed and just figured I must be doing something wrong!

I'd been afraid to use it since regluing, so it's been languishing. And apparently curing, as this is an amazingly strong comb now! You can barely see the toy in that mop, though....

Today is a really cool comb from a French estate. I love the way it sets in so beautifully - you don't even know it's there! So many of the combs with pewter/metal decorations are heavy and cumbersome, begin pulling after a couple of minutes. This one sticks and stays and disappears until I take it out at night!

So, why don't I wear it???!!! I guess it's because I don't wear too many styles that call for this type of comb. The one today is a double-flipped bun-into-gibson roll (instead of quitting at the flipped bun, I take it one more turn under. It's a great way to get a gibson on longer hair that doesn't tuck well anymore.....).

First pic is with a flash and hair looks neat and somewhat "prissy." Second pic is without a flash in an attempt to give you all a better look at the comb, and shows my hair in its more "honest" incarnation!

I am sooooo jealous of the beautiful Chinese buns that show up in LHC! I don't care what I do, mine always look like h*ll..... :o( I'll have to do one tomorrow to demonstrate my point!

Today is a really, really weird picture. I'm having lots of trouble with my camera and beginning to have possible kiss-of-death problems with my lap top - screen flashing bright to dark and back, not a good sign. If I should disappear one day and leave no forwarding address, you'll know the entire cyber-brain-central went belly-up!

The comb is a French twist style with round balls set with green and blue crystals/stones. VERY hard to photograph and impossible to do so with a flash. But you don't see how sparkly it is, which is the fun of wearing it! :o(

It's stuck in a French twist-to-top-knot sorta thing:

Wendy - your hair is so much like mine, were mine under control, that is! Is it the fog or something that makes your hair so smooth? Whereas mine is wild and crazy?!

It's doing better now, but the only way I've figured out works is to go the NW/SO route and sometimes I miss having the long, soft, silky hair. The pay-off is getting all that fly-away stuff to settle down - AND the "widening part" disappears, too!

Why can't we have it all in this life????!!!!!! :o(

Thank you! :D He's actually a miniature of a slightly larger gecko I made previously. He's in my Creative Outlets (http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/album.php?albumid=2911) photo album. They are both made out of polymer clay. The one on the hair stick is perched on a polymer clay leaf that is attached to a cheap chopstick. Plain wooden chopsticks are oven-safe, so it all went into the oven. Then I used a sharpie to color the stick green and clear nail polish to seal in the color and make the whole thing shiny.

And that's it for me! (I think that's enough!)

That's all of your toys! It's been so nice to do this challenge with you! :D

Today is an embarrassing thing - a ho-hum, not well done bun dressed up with a chignon comb I added some "oomph" to by lacing a celtic ribbon through and allowing to hang down. Otherwise you didn't see the comb at all, but there wasn't much to see, anyways. A major disappointment from an otherwise trustworthy source. Not their fault, though.

Day 39: Plastic sticks from Claire's holding a cinnabun. This pair is representing all of my plastic sticks since I would have to add another 2 weeks if I wore them all. That would be a whole 'nother month when added to what I already have.

Thank you! If I'm doing this challenge all the way through you'll be seeing a lot of those. Nightblooming sticks make up a large portion of my collection.

jahof45: the idea is to fill in the time while waiting for my hair to get to the point where I sell all the toys because the hair itself is so much lovelier. :)

Today's is a 60th St fork out of birdseye maple that has been further embellished by nightshade with a chunk of amber.

All pieces of your collection are stunning, but this one looks especially amazing in your hair! I like the idea of further embellishment -

off to sweet-talk my bank manager...

I love your hair! I'm always so impressed with the amount of hair that can be held together with just one stick. Your updo is so graceful with the delicate hair stick.

Thank you for the compliment, but I have to confess that that particular style has some help. There's a pony-elastic for the base and one pin for the ends. If I didn't have so many layers, I could probably do it without the pin, but I do, and I need something to tuck them in with. It's pretty much a Chinese Bun without dividing the hair.

Day two for me: Today was a wash day, so today I'm wearing my Cattails Art Stainless steel sticks with Ching Hai jasper, aventurine, and sterling accents in a wet cinnabun.

http://i627.photobucket.com/albums/tt353/UncommonTart/hair%20toy%20challenge/2009-05-15.jpg

I really like these sticks. I've got a few pairs of Cattails Art sticks, and I do wonder a little why I don't see more of them around here.

I am so laughing. . .I like this idea too, Ramona & WendyG

I am surprised that there are not more people enhancing those amazing hand-made forks with gemstones!

I love inset silver and semi-precious gemstones: aquamarine, amber, lapsis lazuli, rutilated quartz, roman glass and such. . .*swoon*

I also love it that NightBlooming is starting to do more and more of these! She does such nice nice nice work!

WendyG. . .gonna need to see a close up of that chunk of amber! It's beautiful in your hair!

Those look so beautiful in your hair!

I just saw Cattails listings on Ebay. She really does nice work. I love those carved coral ones she has on now. And I love it too, that she uses sterling bits!

Thank you!

I just keep telling myself that I do not need the Aventurine Flowers pair that she has listed right now. I love that she has started listing with a BIN price, but honestly, I was only ever outbid once on a pair of her sticks, and that was the only pair I was ever bid against for at all. (I say this here, knowing even as I do that that may never happen again.)

Oh, do not tell me that, please! I adore aventurine, but I flat out cannot buy hairtoys right now. I have a trip coming up, and I need to be saving money.

I kind of want to start this challenge now...I recently bought a bunch of hairtoys...and also figured out how to use them! Of course, they're mostly cheap ones from Wal-Mart and Claire's (nothing to match some of these gorgeous ones that you all have), but it'd be fun to try and figure out a style that worked with each of them.

Hey - Some of the most interesting, fun and attention-grabbing hair toys I have are ones I got on the cheap and just love! It's not a matter of how much money you spend, but the enjoyment you receive from your pretties. That's the whole point!

I got way, way, way sidetracked and just today have been able to check into the thread. Got some new things on the way, sold a couple of combs (soon off to Australia, the lucky ducks!), so the haven't been wearing are getting even deeper in their little pit. :o(

I'll have to think about it, at this late date, and maybe will just hop in on the beginning of the next "wear all your toys (at) once" challenge! ;o)

Not gonna be much left, if I break in and grab it all first! I've been threatening this for years now, out hair and our styles are so closely matched (only she has a larger bank account - or "had" at least!)....

I tend to get all my really "good" stuff second-hand. So what?!!! Quality is made to last, as far as I'm concerned. Whatever puts an exclamation point in your hair and a big smile on your face is okay by me!
