Default weird problem - hair color change

So over the past year I have had a lot of new hair growth. I noticed in Feb/Mar that the new stuff was redder in color, dark auburn, where my natural color is chestnut brown. There were quite noticeable streaks (especially in sunlight) .

I was looking at my hair this weekend, and i noticed that the auburn color has stopped, the color is now down by my ears, and the rest of the growth (from scalp to ears) is darker like my normal color. I'm kinda bummed because I really liked the auburn, it was so pretty.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Could it be that the auburn color was from sun exposure? The ends were maybe protected inside updos, and the roots haven't gotten the exposure yet?

I don't think so, it was growing in auburn when it was dark and snowy out and i was wearing hats outside.

This new growth is in connection with corrected (long-standing) thyroid and low-iron conditions. I don't know if that changes things

Yes, it could have something to do with it. Maybe you should have mentioned it up front. Medications or conditions can alter your hair (thickness, color, etc.).

I moved from the USA to the UK and found that my hair darkened considerably from blonde to very dark blonde. It was rather annoying since it looked like I bleached my hair! I'm hoping that my hair will re-lighten now that I'm back in the USA, but I have four years of dark to sort out (sighs).

It could be a lot of things. Hormonal changes, medicine, health troubles, iron in the water....

    henna keeps it
red, and red makes me happy.
Pixied for 15+ years and liked it.
    Growing for fun.
