Question Will henndigo kill my waves??

It looks like a few of you have been using henna to make curly hair more wavy...
I have always dreamed of beautiful black hair, and I'm planning to use indigo so I don't damage my hair.. Problem is, I have very soft waves, and I worry my hair will become a lot straighter. Is there hope?

It might reduce them a bit. My 2a/1cish hair definitely isn't any wavier for using henna.

Would you consider using a direct dye of the Manic Panic / La Riche / Punky / Adore / whatever's most available where you are variety? They fade over time, but they're not damaging and I don't think they typically affect waves much. Also, if you get the impulse to use a dye containing peroxide someday, you don't have to worry so much about them turning frog butt green.

You are 1b/c, so I fear not much of the pattern will be left after henna. My hair went the exact opposite and became full-on 2c after henna. I gained definition, not lost it. But most people report a loss in texture, I'm afraid.

I've read somewhere that if you roll your pieces as if you're trying to curl them it preserves the texture and doesn't straighten it much. I would also guess it depends on how much you henna over time. In good three months I hennaed full head about two to three times and went down about half to one category I think (I believe I was 1b/1c, certainly not more than 1c, now I feel like I'm a pretty solid 1b).

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to see what happens. Manic panic would be a bit harder to get for my, but I will consider it when my roots start showing.

After 10 henndigo years I would say it didn't reduce mines at all. I don't think they were ever wavier before. But I am using amla powder in my henna mix lately, many say it helps to preserve the curles. Wouldn't be that an option for you?

I've just read the lapushka's response and think it might be my case too.

My experience using hennindigo since 2008 is that my waves loosened considerably. I'm around a 1C when air dried naturally, basically straight with a few kinks here and there. I used to be more in the 2's, and can probably coax a deeper wave, but that eats length so no.
