The tiny little cloth ones from WalMart. They come in many different colors and you get, like, 30 of them for $3.00.
I use little clear ones to secure the ends of my hair for updos. Unfortunately, they snag too much for me to risk using them any higher up the hairshafts. For making ponytails I use scuncci (sp?) metal free hair elastics.

Regular elastics, those knotty flat band-elastic ones and scrunchies. All kinds. Literally: all kinds!
Depending on what my hair is like at the time-
I don't really prefer clips or (rubber) bands, or as much as I used to growing up, but I do usually use scrunchies as my preferred method for braiding or putting hair up.
I don't do styles that require a ponytail first. Too much breakage risk. To tie off a braid, silk (only silk) scrunchies or fold-over elastic ties.
Everyone can make use of the hair elastics for improving their hairs look according the occasion they are going to be present in. Various types of designs are available from which you can choose the best one that goes well with the color of your hair.

I use these: Are they bad for my hair?

I use goody ouchless for the occasional ponytail and the little clear elastics for ends of braids. I'd like to try a scrunchie but I can't find any that are stretchy enough and I'd prefer less fabric. Spin pins are my go to for buns right now though.
