Thread: Sleeping+Hair can't find a solution

    Default Sleeping+Hair can't find a solution

I try and wash my hair every 3ish days, but the last few months I've been washing entirely too much. So I'm going to try to hold off and go back to washing every 3 days. When I flat iron my hair (rare) it's no problem, I can put it up in a clip or a ponytail and it's fine the next day, but when my hair is curly, no matter how I wear it to bed, when I wake up it looks terrible, so I end up washing it just so it will look decent the next day.

So far the ONLY thing that works is doing pigtail braids on each side, but sometimes I want to wear a different look, like my natural look, or maybe a different kind of braid? Anyone have any suggestions? I have a sleep cap but even that doesn't seem to work much.

Can you just dampen your hair when it's curly to wake the curls up again? That's what I used to do when I had a perm, and it saved so much time!

my hair always looks best when I sleep in a sock bun on the top of my head, but i'm not a curly, so not sure how that will work for you.

try putting a mixture of water, aloe vera gel, conditioner and a a little oil into a spray bottle. Shake well and mist over hair then scrunch. works every time for me

I just stick my head under the faucet and give it a good rinse if it looks super wonky. Otherwise, just mist with water till it's damp then scrunch.

I feel like no matter how I wear my hair to bed that it is really damaging. If I do a braid and secure it at the end, it puts stress on the thin ends where I really do not want it. And if I do a low ponytail it puts stress on the layers right there that are already damaged.
Tonight I am going to try something new...I just thought of this yesterday..
I am going to sleep with a parandi braided into my hair and tye it off in the yarn, and not my hair.
I feel your pain. I have been trying to figure out a sleeping style for years.

I twist it into a bun on top of my head and secure it with claw clips.

But I think if you don't want to bun or braid it maybe a tighter type of sleep cap will work? The ones that are like newborn baby caps and tie with strings. That should stay put.

I agree about dampening it, I would use a spray leave in conditioner.

I'm a 3a/b who can't really get second day either. I get tangles, dryness, SO MUCH frizz and deformed curls when I do. However, I had a fantastic second day hair day today

    Because I done this;

And, for reference, my second day hair results. It NEVER looks like this by the second day. And it's still soft and silky now. I sleep with a satin pillowcase every day without fail, and I have tried pineappling, silk bonnets, loose hair, spritzing with water, and baggying. None of them give me nice results for wearable curls the next day.

    .

I stole the t-shirt veil idea from CurlyCap

    Hope this helps!
