Default Bleached Highlight Over Henna - I did it

Having hennaed for over 4 years now (full head, monthly applications) it's no surprise really that my hair became too dark for my complexion (

I searched the net for photos/info on this, but couldn't find much usefull info, other than the usual "once you henna you can't go back without damaging your hair".

Me being me, I decided to do it anyway and guess what...no damage AND I love the results )

I wanted to share this with you, especially for those considering doing the same thing.

Having problems uploading photos, but I will keep trying!

That looks a beautiful colour. I henna'd some years ago and then wanted to go blonde again. I had a short hair cut to get rid of it quickly and so had to grow it agin also. That put me off ever using henna again. But it's good to know that it is possible. Thanks. :-)

Mines about 3" all over at the mo as I am growing out a pixie. I henna'd it quite some years ago (about 10 years ago) when it was at a length that was almost touching my shoulders. Since then I have cut it and grown it about three times. But each time it just gets to my shoulders again and I get tired of it and cut it again.

This time I am going to see if I can get past there and see how long it will go. But it's quite fine and I don't like it when it starts to look a bit stragly. However this time I am growing it without also bleaching it so perhaps it will fair better.

I can't put any pics up yet as I'm not yet up to 25 posts.

What henna do you use? I use to use the one from Lush. I think it was the dark brown one although it's quite some years ago so I may be remembering wrong.

Did it take the bleach a long time to lift the henna? I naturally have very stubborn red tones in my hair and have to leave bleach on for quite a while to lift them out so if henna means it would take even longer it's probably best that I stay away from it

I used Jamilla BAQ henna from Henna Boy.
The highlights were professionally done - I didn't think I had the expertise for the job (I know I don't lol).
The whole process took a couple of hours (foil highlights), and it was just the one application of peroxide.
I know what you mean about shoulder-length. It's hard to get past that stage, but keep with it and you'll be glad you did.
Won't be long 'til you've got enough posts to start and album. I'll keep a look out for your photos! X

I keep looking at a picture of myself from about 18 years ago when my hair was almost below my sholders. While it looks fine it does look nice and shiny probably because it was my natural hair colour with no bleach in it. So that's what I'm trying to aim for. It's gonna be a long road as my hair doesn't grow very fast and patience is not a virtue I have much of.

I can only dream of having hair as thick and full as yours, it's gorgeous.

Thanks Lou. My hair is slowing growing also. I was approaching waist length, but it was badly thinning out at the ends so I had to have a couple of inches chopped off.
Thick hair is no fun to live with, it's a nightmare to get a brush or comb through, turns into Dreads in 24 hours if you don't brush it, and can NEVER look neat and tidy.
Just as well I'm not a neat n tidy person, but for special occasions/interviews etc. I'd kill for straight, manageable hair.

    It looks nice!

I use henna as well and sometimes use a soapcap (bleach diluted with shampoo and low vol.) to lighten it up a bit without hardly any damage. Works great!

pixie. bob. chin length. shoulder. collarbone. APL. BSL. Waist?
