    Default Hairstick Hairstyles? How to?

So, I'm new to the world of hairsticks, but am beginning to think that they are a necessity (my hair seems to catch far to easily on barrettes). However, I've little to no experience using hairsticks in anything except for a really standard, tightly wound bun, which really doesn't look very good on me. I know there are lots of folks on here who use hairsticks and forks religiously. How do you do your hair (and how does it work?). Thanks!

Welcome to the wonderful world of hairsticks! There are a lot of articles describing how to do various hairstick updo's. Here are some:

    http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...e&articleid=48
    http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...e&articleid=72
    http://forums.longhaircommunity.com/...&articleid=117

The last has links for several buns, including the Nautilus Bun, which is one of my regulars. My other current regular is spidermom's bun that stays.

There are some really great videos on youtube many of which are linked in various posts here on the forums.

Personally I find horizontal placement of sticks and forks to be most comfortable. Vertical placement does not spread out the tension across enough hairs, and usually ends up hurting. Horizontal placement doesn't look right with all sticks/forks, so that is something to consider when making selections. Oh, and Flexi's can be essentially a stick, with benefits.

Thank you for the links posted. I book marked them. That is a good tip that you can use a flexi-8 as a hair stick, I think that they would hold better.

Some things Flexi's hold better for, but sticks can hold very solidly as well. I usually use a Flexi for sleeping since it won't slide out (I'm a side sleeper, so it doesn't get in my way). Otherwise it just depends on the bun a to whether it holds solidly. Once you 'get' how to insert them and how to make buns that hold well with a stick, it's really easy.

Thank you, SpinDance, these instructionals are fantastic. Especially #3's video for the Lazy Wrap Bun - I've been wanting to try that style and that video makes it very clear.

Also, Sticks can be used for any of these styles in half up hairdos.

I suggest trying a nautilus bun Torrin's tutorial is narrated! Hers shows her wrapping then widening the hole. Your hair is s bit shorter and less thick, so you might want to make the wrap and hole a little smaller.

Thank you, PrincessBob, for having Torrin's link easily available. I learned so much from her, and also Hypnotica. It's been long enough since I went looking for new do's that I don't recall other names.

You can also hold a Figure-8 bun with a hairstick or two. Here's Torrin Paige's tutorial on the figure-8 and infinity bun (an infinity bun is just a figure-8 bun on its side). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vyc-1cT9_AE
