    Default Whole Foods Castile Soap

Inspired by the thread on the Mane Forum regarding hair secrets of Hollywood stars of the past, I decided to make my own shampoo with castile soap, aloe and coconut oil followed by an ACV rinse. I used the Whole Foods brand organic pepperment castile soap, and my hair turned out SO GREASY that it was still wet this morning (I washed it last night.) So, this morning I washed it regular (Garnier) shampoo followed by ACV rinse. Looking at the ingredients of the castile soap, it's mostly various oils, aloe and potassium hydroxide (a strong base, common name caustic potash). So, I'm thinking adding the coconut oil was over kill, and next time I'll just use the castile soap followed by ACV rinse. Does this sound like a good idea? (I'm a novice at "natural" hair products). TIA

Here's the ingredients list for the WF castile soap:

Organic pyrus malus (apple) juice, saponified oils (organic cocos nucifera [coconut] oil, potassium hydroxide*, organic helianthus annuus [sunflower] seed oil, organic sesamum indicum [sesame] oil, organic simmondsia chinensis [jojoba] seed oil), aqua (purified water), organic cyamopsis tetragonoloba (guar) gum, organic mentha piperita (peppermint) oil, organic aloe barbadensis (aloe) leaf juice. *Used to turn oils into real soap.

I thought castile soap was 100% saponified olive oil? *confused!*

I think your problem might be the fact that it's a KOH based soap, not a NaOH based soap. From what I've read, KOH based soap is milder which would leave more oils on your skin behind. (Please correct me if I'm wrong, this is my understanding)
Or maybe, the guar gum didn't rinse out, stuck to the hair..

That in combination with the coconut oil I think was major overkill.

Sorry if this is not very helpful, but I'm just starting to understand soap
I found 1 coarse hair on my head!
