best comb/brush/whatever you use on your hair

Now, I know the most important thing we can do for our hair is to take care of it and protect it as much as possible, but an important thing that goes along with that is how we detangle our hair. What kind of brush, comb, or method do you use that best takes care of your hair?

A few years ago, I ordered something from Dove online and they sent me this free plastic wide-toothed comb. I dug it out when I started taking care of my hair, and haven't let it go since.

I also have a BBB that I use rarely, just to add shine and an overall finish if I'm going out.

The best detangling tool I've purchased is my Heavenly Harvest Horn Comb:



Before that I had a plasticy-rubbery comb from Wal*Mart. After the seams were filed down it was a pretty nice comb. But, it was nothing compared to the horn comb. It just glides through my hair. It's hard to describe. The sound of it going through my hair is even different from my old plastic comb.

I have a really old wide toothed pick thing that I use to detangle my hair after conditioning, while it's still pretty wet. Other than that I finger comb and use a Widu wooden long-bristle brush that I've had for years and years. I've never found a comb that will go through my hair so I don't bother.

Mason-Pearson BBB I share with my husband. It was pretty expensive, but we bought it about eight years ago, and it's still in perfect shape. I only use it once a day the two or three days before washing to move the oils down my hair; the first day or two after washing I only comb with a wooden (Bass wide tooth) comb. The comb has lasted several years too, with minimal maintenance (it gets oiled when I run it through oiled hair).

My Che-Chen hardwood comb from Sierra Legacy is the BEST. It's a pleasure to look at, care for, and use.

I use a Body Shop wooden quill brush or detangle with my fingers.

I can't pick one. I like my Mason Pearson rake, Heavenly Harvest horn comb like the one pictured above and my Body Shop wooden comb. I rarely use a brush. I also use a wide tooth comb I got a Sally's and I like it too. I mostly comb in the shower but occasionally detangle if it is a while between washings or I get tangles and want to wear a French braid or something.

I know allot of people like the brush but I find that for my hair the best thing to use is a wide tooth comb. I have been using them for years, no brushing at all and I barely get any splits and I don’t cut my hair almost at all, maybe once a year …
