Inside-out bun, perhaps? But I'm not getting a clear idea of exactly what you did.
I made a ponytail and then a loop over my fingers. I twisted the loop one time, then I twisted the tail around the loop. When I ran out of tail, I brought the loop down, forcing it around the wrapped up tail.
I'm pretty certain this isn't a ew bun...but what is it's name?

Sounds like a log roll with a tie added to it
As long as it holds, doesn't matter which bun it is Looks good!
Sounds kinda like an Orchid bun to me? Or am I completely off-track here? (I'm having a hard time visualizing instructions)

A pretty one? Sorry, I have no idea, as currently I can do cinnabuns and sock buns and my hair's too short for anything else.

I think its an Gibraltar Bun
on the old board was a tutorial for this bun, similar to the easy hairstick bun but without dividing the loop
It sounds kinda like an inside-out bun to me too. I'll second "a pretty one" as well. Updos in general look great in your hair.
Sounds like an inside-out/nautilus bun to me, but you may have done it with less twisting than some folks.
