    Default Recommendations for this newbie

Hi, I’m new but I’ve been lurking for a little bit.

Here’s my background: I have been trying to grow my 2c/3a curly hair out past MBL. It gets a bit past that and then I feel compelled to chop several inches off due to major damage and splitting at the ends.

It finally dawned on me the when I was younger and my hair was hip length, it was probably due to being up all the time and not rubbing on my short, chair, couch, driver’s seat, etc. right now the hair at the nape of my neck is so ratty and broken that it is a good 5 inches shorter than the top layers! 😭 So I’ve been putting it up or braiding it to start protecting it for the past week or so.

I also lost about half of my thickness to COVID, so what used to be a braid about 5 inches around is now only 3 😫.

I would love your recommendations on tips for getting it to grow, starting with a good Rosemary shampoo.

    Thanks!

Welcome here! You answered your own question - wearing it up is wonderfully protective and allows greater lengths to be obtained. Also wearing a satin or silk sleep cap for bed.

    Hello and welcome!

How you detangle is also important. Be gentle during the process and figure out if whether wet or dry detangling works best for your texture.

In addition to the suggestions above, a wide variety of healthy foods to nourish you from the inside out and perhaps a moisturizing conditioner to help keep tangles and breakage at bay. Welcome!
