I think I just invented a new bun!
This is so unlike me I was attempting to do a wrap bun, which my hair is still too short for, when I started fiddling with different twists and stuff to make a bun. I thought this one came out really pretty. I don't think I've seen one like this before, but if I'm wrong, please correct me!
My hair is in the no man's land between APL and BSL for reference.
If this is a first, I'd like to dub it the "Gibson Bun" because it looks like a Gibson Tuck. It's also kinda french twisty looking from the other side On second thought, I'm thinking of calling it a Gibson Twist instead, it's more of a twist than a bun IMHO.
First, the written instructions (reverse directions if you're a lefty):- Hold your hair in a pony
- Place single stick under pony parallel to the floor with the "top" in your right hand
- Pull pony down over stick, then up and behind the end of the stick
- Rotate stick clockwise until "top" is on the left of your head
- Stab stick through hair and push end through to the left of your head (don't make it too tight)
- Bring the tail of the pony down behind the end of the stick and stab stick through (without rotating) to your right side
- Top should be sticking out the left of the bun
- Tuck ends of hair into the crevice
LONG HAIR VARIATION (thanks danacc)
* Hold your hair in a pony
* Place single stick under pony parallel to the floor with the "top" in your right hand
* Pull pony down over stick, then up and behind the end of the stick
* Rotate stick clockwise until "top" is on the left of your head
* Stab stick through hair and push end through to the left of your head (don't make it too tight)
* My longer hair modification: Bring the tail of the pony down behind the end of the stick, bring it to the right side, then up behind the other end of the stick. Bring it to the left side, then down behind the stick. Continue wrapping until you run out of length. Basically, you are wrapping the tail in a circle, keeping the hair behind the stick.
* Invert the stick, picking up some scalp hair on the left side, and weave the stick through (without rotating) to your right side
* Top should be sticking out the left of the bun
* Tuck any stray ends of hair into the crevice
Video Instructions:
Slower with my arm out of the way to better see. Excuse the weird lighting and me speaking to my BF who just got home. Hopefully with both the videos you can see what I'm doing:
Ta da!
Be careful not to work it too snuggly or you won't be able to do the final poke. I had to redo it a couple of times for making it too tight. It holds very nicely. I would practice this with cheap plastic (sacrificial) or metal sticks at first, wouldn't want anyone to snap a treasure.
Hope you enjoy

That is a pretty bun! It looks old fashioned, like something from Little House on the Prairie (my favorite show of all time). Nicely done!

Whatnhell did you just do Manderly? Whatever it is, it's very pretty and elegant looking.
I am such a klutz at new styles and I did not get that video at all or the instructions. *Tessa runs and hides*
